In this Orwellian story of a future that could both happen and horrify, a university professory is forced to flee with his wife from the government that has perverted for their own ends many of his own discoveries about mind control; a Fascist America now sets out to destroy him. Finding refuge with a group of freedom-seeking fighters in a world they call Amorphous, he is introduced to their leaders, their aims and the God Machine....a micronizer that reduced people and objects in size and helps them escape the dreaded police called the Rehabs.

How this secret world exists; the methods devised by its inhabitants to both survive and, hopefully to triumph; the lessons learned by both sides in the terrifying struggle between them...these are the exciting elements that fill this tale set in an all-to-possible future.

This has to be the best book on U-boats tactics to come out of ww2. The fact that Otto Kretschmer was the leading Ace of ww2 and led the way for others to follow makes this a must must have for my collection.

A Literal Explosive American Tale

Review Date: 2008-05-11
A very realistic exploration of a child making the difficult choices and following through. A true American hero with all the virtues and flaws of a real life honest child. A true Midwestern tale told with the innocence of a child wise way beyond his years. It is a true slice of life, pun intended, tale of the way things were in these long ago days during the post Industrial era of America told with the clarity of the present day author.

Seeding secrets revealed

Review Date: 2007-08-27
Ron Robertson lives in Truro, Nova Scotia and has been growing flowers from seeds for more than twenty years now. He's the kind of garden writer we all love--the kind that takes the time to explain things and never, ever talks down to others. He's put his collected years of seeding wisdom together into the delightful Growing Flowers from Seed in Canada. This is a dandy book, and one I'll recommend wholeheartedly to everyone who's ever contemplated starting their own seeds--or to those who have tried and succeeded, or tried and been less successful at growing their own transplants. Follow the sage advice of Ron, and your flower garden will be turning heads too, of that I'm sure!

Early aviation pioneer-then prisoner of war

T.W. White was one of the first Airmen involved in the Mesopotomian Campaign in WWI. An Australian--he and some of his comrades were the first to answer the call for providing aerial support to the ground offensive in Mesopotamia. However, his tour of duty was cut short after being captured in a daring behind the lines effort.
The majority of the book centers on his captivity and eventual escape towards the end of the war. WHite's insights on his captivity are important; he was captured well before the fall of Kut, where the Turks had to deal with thousands of prisoners from the siege.
Interesting anecdotal stories abound throughout the book. GOod page turner.

Greatest book on greatest educational endeavor ever!

Review Date: 2000-11-03
As someone who is appalled by the passive learning and hypocricy inherent and unchallenged in our educational system this book was an INSPIRATION to me. I found a copy several years ago at a thrift store in Chicago and among other things the book inspired me to create a radical student action committee at Teachers College Columbia University (oh let's just say they HATED me at TC). This book is the incredible account of two "hippy" sociology professors who challeneged the ENTIRE educational system and attempted to create classes that fostered "active" relevant and meaninful learning for their students. They refused to assign grades to assignments and generally ruffled LOTS of feathers! At one point, one of the co-authors publicly burned his doctoral dissertaion instead of handing it in. The best part of the book is the account of how they responded to then Governor Ronald Reagan's attempts to censor a work of nude student sculpture. The authors created a class called "The Myth of Obscenity" in which they set up three projectors: one showing a police training film, one showing a 7th grade sex education film and another showing a porno film - these images were projected side by side for their students while live naked models approximated the poses of the nude sculptures that Reagan had banned from campus. Needless to say, they were canned shortly thereafter. What an INCREDIBLE little book! If you can find this at your library or Salvation Army store or here at Amazon - PLEASE read this book!

This fast-paced and moving book is beautifully written. Robertson's psychological insights are fascinating. I am ever more amazed at the breadth of Ms. Robertson's knowledge and expertise.
