Well written and unique. Character and plot driven. Characters are so well described.

Anything by Robert Anton Wilson is worth reading. His Illuminati stuff is doubly so. The original Illuminatus Trilogy is one of the greatest scifi, horror, thriller, political, historical, adventure and pornographic novels ever written. All of the Historical Illuminatus books are equally well done, equally fun to read, and equally true historically.

I absolutely loved this book. It would be a five star review, except for the fact that I've already read the two follow-ups. They betray the fact that RAW burned through all his best ideas on the first book. What appear in EWS as great set-ups for subsequent books turned out to be one-shots, left to die on the vine in the rest of the series. The Widow's Son is also a good book, but RAW spent too much time on farcical footnotes and not enough on character and plot development. So some of the genius of The Earth Will Shake is ruined by lack of cultivation.

Still, I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in historical fiction, conspiracies and using the arts to help liberate mankind.

I read this book back in the late 80's when it was printed by a mass-market publisher (Signet, I think) containing two abridged volumes; The Earth Will Shake and The Widow's Son. I loved it then and was never able to find Nature's God. Now I have all 3 books. After re-reading this edition, I've enjoyed it twice as much!! There is still yet an unpublished forth book, "The World Turned Upside Down" and we're all awaiting this gem to be published. Earth Will Shake is a coming of Age novel set in the enlightenment era where a murder happens in church during an Easter mass. From that point on it's a roller coster ride of wicked but serious fun. You are enlightened by the sheer weight of the subject matter that continues to this day. In these works you meet diverse characters who are historically real. I.e., the young Mozart, Count Cagliostro and Casanova, just to name a few. Dan Brown though entertaining, is comparatively an amateur hack when writing about the Illumniati (see for yourself and read this. You won't be disappointed). When the Da Vinci Code got ALL the attention, there was no mention of this work and I find that a sad reality though parr for the course in these "shaky" times. Remember, "reality is what you can get away with"...

Robert Anton Wilson has proven to be capable of extraordinary talent with this series. Mixing fiction with non-fiction he weaves one of the most satisfying Masonic related tales to be discovered and published. The Earth Will Shake, The Widows Son and Natures God are a type of writing that I had previously not encountered through Wilson. This series can actually be very inspiring, and it's written in such a dramatic way I am convinced it would make an excellent movie. Yet, at the end of the series, the reader sees reference to the fourth book "The World Turned Upside Down", and alas, it is non-existant. Whatever reason Bob has for abandoning us devout readers of this series (I have read all three books three times and stolen much wit from them) I urge you, dear Bob, please don't leave us hanging, finish the fourth book! This is a very good book, I've read several real estate books in the past and this one is one of the better ones. Content is more down to the real world and has a lot of number crunching which is great. Recommended reading.

This is a book that turns conventional wisdom on it's ear. This book was eye-opening for me in much the same way that "Rich Dad Poor Dad" was years ago. This book is a great starting point for anyone interested in real estate investing. I also recommend looking up their podcast on I-tunes called "The Real Estate Guys".

I learned of the book through a weekly podcast of Real Estate Guys Radio, which is hosted by the authors. I have read many books on real estate investing, but this one really challenged my thinking on several philosophies. (I hate to admit this, but I had some similar ideals to the fictitious Conrad Soomer in the introductory section).

Since finishing the book, I have created a written plan and made an offer on a six unit apartment building. I have also re-evaluated my previous guiding principle of paying down loans faster and am planning to pull some equity out of existing properties.

I strongly recommend this to any reader who understands that real estate investing is a proven way to build net worth, but needs a kick in the pants to get started.

I gained so much from reading (and re-reading sections) of the book, I bought copies for all my RE partners. I read A LOT of real estate books and was very impressed with the ideas and the presentation. A must for newbies to help you get the concepts down and experienced people to reflect and review and learn some new things.

These guys have a great and entertaining way of writing about real estate. They are also honest, there's none of this "make a million overnight with real estate" garbage. Instead they lay out the foundations for changing your mindset, which a lot of books dont even mention. How are you going to win at the real estate game if you have the wrong mental attitude and work ethic going in? After they change your attude, they lay the foundation for getting started in real estate, and telling you realistically that there will be ups and downs, but over the long haul, like a 15 year or more period, you will make substantial wealth with real estate. Loved the tone of the book as well, funny and frank with their information. They have a home study course, which I'm sure goes into more detail than this book does, and I'm going to order it. But this book is a great place to start.

This book explains the general principles of financial planning and gives other resources of useful information. It also talks about some specific situations. While it cannot teach you how to do it yourself, it is a good start for everyone who needs to do financial planning!

If you are cautious on your personal finance and don't want to just listen to your financial advisor, the book might be good for you. It covers a lot of topics of personal finance. The second part is especially good. It talks about the financial issue at life time changes such as marriage, becoming parents, divorce, etc. Very solid information on tax issues. A lot of tips on tax saving.

When I started teaching financial planning to US Air Force officers planning on reentering the general economy it was a little known subject and you had to scout up your material from pamphlets, magazines and newspapers with help from stockbrokers.
"Ernst & Young's Personal Financial Planning Guide" published by John Wiley & Sons, which is the same publishing house that publishes the JK Lasser's tax manual puts the information all in one volume.
Of intense interest to us is the chapter on starting your own business, which as authors we are doing in our senior years. The material is geared to the younger generation who are just starting out, but the advice is sound and easy to understand without an extensive background in accounting and economics.
Financial planning is rough at this period in our history, because of the skyrocketing prices of necessary goods and services not used in the consumer price index, hence they are excluded from inflation percentage calculations. Gasoline, medicines and health care are three I can name, off hand, that affect the general population, but fall outside the index. This phenomena is not addressed in the planning guide, but then Congress has not touched it since the Johnson adminstration either. It is not something that winning the lottery will answer for an individual, but it is like trying to hold a large balloon half-full of water in one-hand and keep it round.
"Personal Financial Planning Guide' is the best we have found for a realistic look at all aspects of financial planning. The table of contents and index are outstanding for locating information.

Absolutely one of the best financial planning reference tools around! If your personally planning to restructure your financial life or hire a professional to do it for you, then this book is a must have. It provides a wealth of information as well as an extensive array of guidelines and tips for every area of your life . I especially like that it brings to light concerns of areas you may not be immediately affected by (aging parents) but should be planning for now. Having hired a professional, this book has proved Indispensable in that we have been able to knowingly select and plan individual or particular methods of approach towards our financial futures and better implement them through a professional planner!!!

When reading the description and reviews on this book, I thought it was going to be fantastic. It has some great recipes, but not what I expected. My mother-in-law is from the Azores and it does not have any of the traditional recipes that her or any of her friends/family grew up with. I guess my expections were not met because it doesn't have those "warm" home cooked meals I was expecting. I actually found a lack of chicken/beef recipes that my other cookbook has an abundance of. Over-all it is a great book for those interested in a cookbook with a sampling of Portuguese food and plenty of seafood recipes.

I gave my daughter-in-law and her sister copies of this book. They are Portuguese but live in Australia. They say it's excellent; the ingredients are reasonably easily obtainable; the book brings back wonderful memories of home cooking when they lived in Portugal; and they can now shares those memories with their Australian families. I'm fortunate to enjoy some of their cooking. Recommended.

I've had this cookbook for years and it's one of my favourites. I've not been to Portugal, but I've lived in Hong Kong for 20 years and frequently visit Macau for genuine Portuguese food (perhaps Ms Anderson could a Macanese dish or two in an update). The recipes are varied and they work. Nicely written book with tons of good info about the country and its fascinating cuisine.

This is a wonderful cookbook. In fact, this is my second copy. My husband and I have purchased a second home and I needed another copy of one of our favorite cookbooks. We have travelled to Portugal on several occasions and the recipes bring back fond memories of the excellent food we had in Portugal. The ingredients are easy to obtain. We often use the recipes when entertaining because our friends have never sampled Portuguese food.

Excellent organization and structure. Lots of information on how manual transmissions work, and how to check and rebuild them. Many excellent color photos to go along with the text.

Manual transmissions aren't as sexy as some other engine parts that I could think of (like cams, or turbos), but that doesn't make them boring!

This book covers the little-known and little-described topic of manual transmissions. The writer attacks the subject from the angle of a "weekend warrior" mechanic or car builder, which means it's neither dry and academic nor lowbrow.

Manual transmissions, clutches and even differentials are covered in enough detail to be useful without drowning in theory. Unlike many automotive books it's full of meaty details and tips - the chapter on manual transmission diagnosis alone is worth the cost.

Even if you're not a die-hard stick shifter, it's a fun read and an interesting look at the technology behind a manual transmission. If nothing else, you could read it and impress the guys at your local hot-rod spot with your knowledge of gear oil additives.

Besides, where else can you get all the current thinking on manual transmission modifications in one place?

I just got this book and Have to say that it is one of the best automotive books I have ever read. Most automotive Books are either to Dry and Technical or have very little info. This Book is both easy to read and has a ton of information. I'll be referring to this book any time I have a problem with a manual transmission.

This book is well written and easy to understand with many pictures. It is a good starting point for anyone considering rebuilding a manual transmission.

The book covers material that is common knowledge for professionals, but that is hard to learn as an amatuer trying to learn on his/her own. Specifically in the areas of dianosis of problems, and explicit function of components.

I recommend this book.

This book really presents the work and theory in a straightforward manner. It explains what you are doing and why, and what happens when something goes wrong. It's easy enough to follow lightly as you work, or to read in depth to really learn something. You can easily pull from it what information you need. I would recommend this book to anyone with a technical background, whether already you know what you are doing or just starting your first project, there is definitely something to gain here.

This book tells the story of the men of the kingdoms and elves of the reaches. It is the story of Vilmos who has a secret gift of magic, Adrina a princess from a dying land, and Seth a great warrior who is trying to save his people and the world. In this story, Prince Valam Alder has traveled to the lands of the elves to try to stop a war, but meanwhile war starts in his own lands, and everyone he cares about is caught in the middle. This book combines combat, suspense, magic, hidden love and more into an adventure-filled and exciting book.

This is a terrific book. More along the lines of 'LORD of the Rings' than Harry Potter. Great characters from heroes like Prince Valam Alder and his men to the young wizard Vilmos to the mysterious Xith and the lovely Adrina and her sisters plus the dragon Tnavres. Great writing, terrific adventure, a MUST READ for any fastasy fan.

This is a great book. I read all kinds of books and this one is very near the top. I would venture as far as to compare Robert Stanek to J.R.R. Tolkien.

In the Service of Dragons contains some of the most powerful scenes I've ever read, especially the sweeping, epic scenes. It swept me away, and this second book was no less powerful in its imagery. The author doesn't let you miss a moment of the action, and it only gets more intense as the story goes along.

The mighty titans and great eagles have returned from the ancient past and contineu to work to stop the darkness. Noman, the mysterious keeper of the City of the Sky, has seen the signs and he is gathering those who can stop the darkness. Meanwhile the Great Kingdom is in turmoil with the heir to the throne gone across the sea to battle a distant enemy when another enemy has returned closer to home.

I bought this book and then read it in print it is so great! The time starts flying, flying right from the start. If you like scifi/fantasy like I do you will love this book too. The best book for any Eragon, Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings fan to read!! It's not Tolkien, but it is very good!!

This book in my eyes is so much more captivating then the LOTR trilogy. In the LOTR trilogy there were points where I had to put the book down, so far, in the "kingdoms and elves" and "service of dragons", I havent found a point where i wanted to. The author gave the reader a world to sink into, and characters with real personalities. Overall one of the better fantasy books I have read.

Finally a book that really grips my attention. This book ROCKS! I would recommend it to ANY reader. I now have Dragons #4 too. Robert Stanek is right up there with the other true master authors!! Thanks Robert for such wonderful writing.

I couldn't put it down. What a great book. The plot will hold your attention, the characters are vivid and the action is compelling. In it's entirety, a very enjoyable book. I highly reccommend it and it's sequel.

The ends comes for the men of the kingdoms and the elves of the reaches. The wars they've all been trying to prevent have started, and there doesn't seem to be any hope left, but Prince Valam Alder, and his family are not about to give up. They are going to fight to the end, meanwhile Xith and Noman continue to build the mysterious company they believe can save everyone, and Adrina has a secret key she's told no one about. The dragon is with her and he's trying to hook his claws deeper. It is a great book you should buy it!!!!

The "service of dragons" are by far some of the best books I've ever read, and that's saying something. I'm currently re-reading the set for the second time and am enjoying it just like the first time. It is a MUST read for anybody who like dragons, magic, adventure and climatic endings. It keeps you hooked from the begenning to the end!!! i would give this book a million stars!! Praise to Robert Stanek, he's a master!!

I loved this book even more than the first two!! I could really imagine what was going on! It was full of adventure and magic and action! If you like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, you will LOVE this book! A 5 star winner!

Belleruth Naparstek has such wisdom and compassion in discussing and working with survivors of a variety of traumas. Some students and clients have found this book a bit overwhelming but overall the responses have been as positive as mine. I highly, highly recommend this book.

This book contains the clearest, easiest to understand explanation I've found for how trauma affects the brain. A must read for all those dealing with trauma, trauma victims or PTSD.

How lucky I've been to discover this book now, years after initial publication! I second other Amazon reviews, esp. by trauma survivors. Easy read.(CD recording of it also available.) Important parts:
1) Most of the book explains PTSD and related symptoms, many which might seem at first to have nothing to do with trauma. More important to me than the rest, because of unraveling confusing experiences in my life.
2) Scripts of guided imagery. Some may be important for some trauma survivors to read before listening to them on CD, because of concern of how we might react to the power of voice and music, e.g. meditation on grief. Sleep meditation seems the most powerful.
3) Information about 11 things people who have successfully recovered have done. Validating. Offers a healing direction.
4) Unexpected information about development of gifts as a result of trauma.
5) The title might be encouraging to other survivors of trauma. Look how far we've come, rather than how much we've left undone. "I look forward to reclaiming my strength and using the full range of my gifts." It's good to know that I'm not alone in benefitting from that affirmation.
6) Those who know the trauma survivor can benefit in recognizing PTSD problems, because they can ask for specific help about how to deal with the person who has PTSD. "It ain't easy."
7) I've given the book to some helping professionals who have told me, "It sounds like I should get that book." I'm ordering more copies.

This book causes you to think deeply about alot of things. Especially things you didn't realize were issues in your life or the life of ones you love. Read it with a highlighter and pen in hand!!

I have just purchased my 6th & 7th copies of Invisible Heroes. The others have all been given to psychotherapy clients; survivors of several kinds of traumatic experience. Trauma survivors find this book instructive and comforting -- they read and re-read it. Sometimes we make recordings of the imagery and meditations, sometimes they purchase those Belleruth has made so beautifully.

I recently finished reading "Capital" by Karl Marx as part of my goal of reading all Encylopaedia Brittanica's "The Great Books of The Western World" (it's Volume 50). I found Marx to be an absolutely wonderful writer - reminded me of Charles Dickens' descriptions of the hardship of the early factory workers in Great Brittain in the middle of the 19th century. It was thus a natural progression to move onto "The Marx-Engels Reader". I have not been disappointed! In his Preface to the 2nd Edition the Editor, Robert C. Tucker stated, "A knowledge of the writings of Marx and Engels is virtually indespensable to an educated person in our time, whatever his political position or philosophy." Prophetic words indeed considering the current economic crisis facing us all and considering that the solution may be found using Marxist priciples!

Very in depth reader about the works of Marx and Engels. Gives some historic information on the life Karl Marx and the order in which he wrote most of his works. If all you have read by Marx is the Communist Manifesto then do yourself a favor and pick this book up.

The other reviews cover the content, but as for the format (at least in the elder edition this reviewer has), the pages are stubby and short given the length of the binding. Increasing the width by another 1.5'' would have reduced the somewhat crammed text, but Norton must have needed the paper to print other books at the time.

then this is really the volume to get. Besides it's Norton: headnotes, footnotes, delicious paper, quality binding, good selections, a good look at Marx as far I can see.

I happened to find this paperback version on the bargain shelf at Borders for $5, and I made the decision to buy it just on looking at the first photograph alone. Impulsive? Yeah, but I don't regret it at all. I just bought this book tonight, so I haven't actually read it yet. However, just looking at the photographs was mesmerizing. There are some really incredible trees out there in the world and I think the author has done a great job of capturing some of them. If you don't come across this book on a bargain shelf somewhere don't worry, it is well worth the price that Amazon is asking.

Pakenham's Meetings with Remarkable Trees and his Remarkable Trees of the World are portraits, not just pictures, each book documenting the impressive presence of sixty venerable trees from around the world. Pakenham groups them by their histories: Natives, Travelers, Shrines, Fantasies and Survivors. Each is a testimony to the majesty of Nature's creativity, diversity and adaptability.

Pakenham shares the unique history of each of these outstanding personalities, in the context of its species and its struggles for survival - ever threatened by man's over-cutting and under-husbandry of these irreplaceable resources.

Inspirational!

As I recall it, I first saw this book in 1996 or 1997 at the Midnight Special Bookstore in Santa Monica before they closed. The photographs of the trees were the most breathtaking photographs of trees I had ever encountered. I didn't buy the book then, but I remembered it for a long time afterward, and then my husband gave me a copy of it for Christmas a few years ago.

What I particularly like about this book - beside the photographs - is that it contains a Gazetteer at the back which tells the reader where the trees are located, what page they are pictured on, what kind of tree they are and whether they are accessible to the public, whether they are part of the Forest Enterprise or whether they are part of the National Trust. It also gives the reader a designation for Champion trees with full measurements. This is very handy and has saved me from having to pull all this information together myself.

My husband and I are going to be in Surrey this summer and we are looking forward to paying a visit to several of the trees mentioned - in particular - the Crowhurst Yew (pp. 120-21) and the Tandridge Yew (pp. 22-23) located in the churchyard at Tandridge in Surrey. These are probably the most spectacular. There are also several others at Kew Gardens which we are hoping to visit (tulip tree p. 61, hybrid strawberry p. 67, chestnut-leaved oak p. 71, maidenhair (Ginko), p. 83, Chinese wisteria p. 151, as well as the Knap Hill weeping beech p. 155, at the Knapp Hill Nursery in Surrey).

The introduction is very poignant. Pakenham recalls his encounters with trees which prompted him to create this book. He recalls a severe storm in Ireland in January, 1991, which toppled 12 out of 19, of his 200 year old, 100 foot high beech trees which once inhabited his garden - "all had been good friends to five generations of our family." "Why had I not looked at them more carefully before?" he asks.

This is an amazing book from the stunning photographs to the detailed stories about each remarkable tree. It is also scattered with beautifull 18thC etching of illustrated trees that refer to the tree being discussed.I found this book quite beautiful. I would definately recommend this book to anyone who is passionate about trees. Or to anyone who is looking for great photograhic reference as I was.

If you need a gift for a nature lover or photographer that you really like, this is the book for them. And get yourself a copy while you're at it.

Briefly, the author takes wonderful photographs of trees that affect and inspire him in Great Britain. Included with each tree is a history of the tree and facts and vignettes associated with the tree. His camera-work is impeccable and if you've ever tried to photograph a whole tree you will recognize the talent and work that have gone into this book.

The writing that accompanies the pictures is compelling and interesting. The author has obviously done his homework.

You can lose yourself for an hour at a time, or you can put this on your coffee table and get compliments from your guests, but have one in your library where you can get inspired and calm at the same time.
