I found the first series series (The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches) by accident, looking for interesting books for my kids to read. I couldn't put the book down and we now fight over who's going to read first.

I have read all the other books and I think they're great! This one is especially action packed, exciting, and creative. Great characters. I love the way Robert Stanek breathes new life into fantasy. Would recommend for both boy and girls of all ages...even parents!

This is a really good book READ IT!!!!!!

This book tells the story of the men of the kingdoms and elves of the reaches. It is the story of Vilmos who has a secret gift of magic, Adrina a princess from a dying land, and Seth a great warrior who is trying to save his people and the world. In this story, Prince Valam Alder has traveled to the lands of the elves to try to stop a war, but meanwhile war starts in his own lands, and everyone he cares about is caught in the middle. This book combines combat, suspense, magic, hidden love and more into an adventure-filled and exciting book.

Very good book

This is a great book. I read all kinds of books and this one is very near the top. I would venture as far as to compare Robert Stanek to J.R.R. Tolkien.

In the Service of Dragons II is the second book of the Dragon series. The book begins with the regal funeral for a fallen king and heads quickly into turmoil as the enemy lays siege to Imtal itself. I was left wanting more with every turn of the fight. Meanwhile, across the great sea, Valam, his fellow kingdomers, and Seth make their way to Leklorall, the capital of East Reach and where Seth will be received with ceremony and joy.

If you haven't read the Kingdoms and Dragons books yet, do yourself a huge favor and start. This isn't a Tolkien wannabe, though there are obvious parallels. Robert Stanek offers a vastly different vision of what a magical world populated with elves, humans and many other peoples is like. In Tolkien's world, the alliances between peoples is what saves the day, in Stanek's world, the alliances of old have shattered, men and elves were more often foes than friends, and the world was once ruled by dragons and titans.

This is a phenominally great series and a must read!

Terrific sequel!!

In the Service of Dragons contains some of the most powerful scenes I've ever read, especially the sweeping, epic scenes. It swept me away, and this second book was no less powerful in its imagery. The author doesn't let you miss a moment of the action, and it only gets more intense as the story goes along.

The mighty titans and great eagles have returned from the ancient past and contineu to work to stop the darkness. Noman, the mysterious keeper of the City of the Sky, has seen the signs and he is gathering those who can stop the darkness. Meanwhile the Great Kingdom is in turmoil with the heir to the throne gone across the sea to battle a distant enemy when another enemy has returned closer to home.

I bought this book and then read it in print it is so great! The time starts flying, flying right from the start. If you like scifi/fantasy like I do you will love this book too. The best book for any Eragon, Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings fan to read!! It's not Tolkien, but it is very good!!

This man's innovations changed the way we build major infrastructure in the world. From a early involvement in auto racing to the most powerful earth moving equipment of his times. R.G. LeTourneau changed the way we build and power the big machines. This is a inspirational book !

This, to me, was a good example that you don't have to be cut throat to run a successful business. You don't have to be a Harvard graduate. You just need to be energized to help other people the best way you know how, and not be afraid of change, but be excited about innovation.

I could not put this book down. What a great book! One reviewer said to buy a second book to give away. I did, but I should have bought several extras! Now I'm buying more. This book has helped me to recognize God's purpose for my life and the incredible gifts He has given to each of us. A great gift for anyone, especially for someone who has ever been in the construction industry.

This was one fantastic book that I could hardly put down. It is a great story of a man with dreams that were larger then life. He always said there are no big jobs, only small machines. Mr. LeTourneau had the capacity to envision larger and larger machines to make man more productive.

This book is 290 pages short with 26 untitled chapters which cover most of Mr. LeTourneau's life. From his childhood and quiting school in the 7th grade to his struggles and almost bankruptcy, he does a great job at unfolding his life the way it happened. He tells of how his business grew during the depression and of the great success he had in creating machines to do a job that none had done before. He was laughed at by people who couldn't see the value in some of his gigantic creations which were ahead of their time. But he didn't allow other people's negativity stop him from accomplishing his goal of benefiting man by making him far more productive then he would have been otherwise.

He talks about his relationship with God and how he believed that God was with him to protect him and help him to succeed. LeTourneau lived his beliefs by helping others and starting a school called LeTourneau Collage. He had given 90% of his stock in his business to a foundation he started for the benefit of others. He is not overpowering with this but just lets his beliefs take a natural course through the book.

Overall I think anyone would really enjoy this book. It really was one of the more interesting biographies I have read. His life again proves that it doesn't matter what kind of education you have or where you are financially, the only thing that can stop you from fulfilling your dreams is yourself!

By far and away the most comprehensive book on origami design and theory that I have every seen. There are thousands of books containing origami models, but few, if any, actually take the time to explain how the models were created in the first place. If Robert Lang didn't already hold a Ph.D., this book could serve as a dissertation. In addition to the theory and concepts of origami model design, this book also contains excellent models that demonstrate the principles covered in each chapter. I have always enjoyed folding Robert Lang's models in the past. They are challenging and extremely rewarding. I am a very good techincal folder but I could never really create my own models. This book has started me on my own path towards creating my own origami models to fold. While this book certainly could be useful to beginning origami folders, it best serves intermediate to advanced enthusiasts.

Dr. Lang delves into the hows and whys of origami design exploring origami the way Alton Brown explores food and cooking.

The instructions for creating beautifully made koi decorating the cover are not included in their entirety, notably excluding the sequence for creating the scales. Instead, Lang describes the principles and techniques for creating textures on paper, leaving the creation of the fish as an exercise for the reader.

If you're looking for a recipe book for cool origami designs, then this is not the book for you. Rather, this book is for anyone curious about just how the heck someone makes a cuckoo clock out of one uncut sheet of paper.

I have been using Dr. Ted Roberts book Pure Desire every since the first week we started sex addiction ministry. Dr. Roberts through his own experience and expertise wrote a book that explains exactly what is going on in a sex addicts life. I've heard remarks like: "It's like he is reading my mail when I read this book" or "this book has help me understand I'm not crazy or alone in my struggle". We require this book for all of our men who attend our recovery groups and I highly recommend it to everyone who thinks they may have a problem with sex addiction.

Much needed information to help men and women to get out from under the bondage of pornography. A real problem in the family, husband & wife relationship, in the community, and in the individuals own moral, character, and mental health issues. A must read for everyone. For those trapped and for those who can help the trapped. It is written well. Informative, funny, interesting, and easy to read. It's hard to put down. Ted's transparentcy is the center of the success of this book. His openness is healing to those who need it most.

I love it when an author addresses issues that are rarely talked about, especially issued that are rarely talked about in church.

The thought life is the most private and secret area in our entire being. Unless you decide to reveal all that is in your mind, no one is going to know what lies behind the curtain. Yet it is right behind that curtain where most of the pain and damage begins.

Roberts boldly reveals the struggles he has had with sexual immorality, laying the foundation of his connectedness with more than half of the rest world. He does a great job at introducing possible ways of dealing with the skeletons in our closests and help bring them to the light of God for deliverence and healing.

This book is more than just about sex. It is very rich for men and women to read. It addresses issues of relationships with family and with God and how that relates to disfunction in sex and other addictions. We have read quite a few books like this and it is by far the best.

Review Date: 2006-03-06
Ted's personal experiences both in his struggle with sex addiction and in his career as a pilot provide a compelling unity to this book. He has a passion for helping the many people who struggle with this problem, but who are not receiving the help where they should be receiving it -- from their churches, who have the truth of the Bible, but often don't focus it in this area.

The book has a dual-fold purpose. Foremost, to help the person caught in the bondage of sex addiction. Secondly, to sound a "wake-up call" to churches who are letting these persons slip through the cracks. It is effective on both counts, though I think Roberts sometimes tries to address both simultaneously, and would be better off focusing on the sex addicts as his primary audience, then addressing the churches in dedicated chapters toward the end.

It is an easy read -- he writes in a conversational and "story telling" manner. He uses humor frequently and in good taste to help break the tension of a tough subject. There are also some helpful chapters from his wife offering her perspective on what it's like to heal along with her husband.

I've read many books on the subject, starting with SLAA's big book, the SA white book, and Christian books such as Every Man's Battle (Arterburn and Stoecker), Faithful and Tree (Laaser), Not Even a Hint (Harris), and the Purity Principle (Alcorn). I found something helpful in all of them, but Roberts' is one of the best. It has the "empathy" of the secular 12-step "big book" literature on sex addiction, but goes beyond self-defined bottom lines and "God as I understand him" to a much more Biblically grounded faith and vision.

This is the best book on classroom discipline I have EVER read. It is to the point, with concrete ways of handling a variety of situations. It is also full of examples, most of which I have been through. In other words, these aren`t examples of situations that never or rarely happen. These are every day situations like what to do with a smart mouth student, or one that doesn`t want to listen to you, or the class clown.

I will recommend this book to all my friends at work.

You will not be dissapointed. Well worth the money.

I am a teacher with 10 years of experience in both general ed and special ed classrooms. My passion is working with behaviorally challenged students. After many years of experience, I found this book and was fascinated. Here it is- all the 'tricks of the trade' for keeping the classroom under control stated in easy-to-understand language with tons of examples. I was so impressed by it that I bought copies for fellow teachers who I knew were having problems. One teacher read the whole book over the weekend and began using it the next week. What a difference! The class that previously was throwing things at each other, talking during instruction, etc. was now on-task and excited about learning! (Yes, this is a true story!)

This program is basically a simplification of everything that I had to learn over a number of years about how to work with difficult students. But, don't get me wrong this is for ALL students and does not require any point charts or complicated systems. It is simple, easy to follow, and costs the teacher nothing! Any teacher who follows this program will have no problems with behavior - guaranteed!

I've been teaching for 25 years, but this was my first year in third grade, with 30 kids. A number of them are constantly testing my limits, and I felt like I had lost my touch. This book was recommended to me, and I am reading it cover to cover over my spring break, looking for a renewed vision. The writing is easy to read, the ideas make sense, and I am ready to try again next week. I consider this essential reading for all "soon to be" teachers, and for those of us who need to reset and find the love for this job again.

Setting limits is by far the most useful teaching resource I have ever found. I am in my third year teaching grade 8 history, which is a tough year for kids. Setting limits in the classroom gives clear fundamental processes for dealing with student disruptions and misbehaviors, as well as many successful strategies to prevent most classroom management problems. For all perspective teachers, I would buy this book!

This is a useful guide to class control for all teachers. It allows a teacher to review his/her current stratgies and see how those actions may be leading to increased student misbehavior. The basic issue is about taking control and not getting into useless power struggles with kids.

This new edition of the best-selling Merry Christmas Songbook now comes with a companion 23-track CD!

The Merry Christmas Songbook is a collection of more than 100 Yuletide favorites, plus a lyric book. The 23-track CD will help you and your family enjoy the songs, create memories, and share the warmth and charm of this wondrous time of year. The convenient spiral binding enables the pages to lie flat when the book is open, and the songs are self-contained on one page or on facing pages to keep page-turning to a minimum. In addition, the songs are uniquely readable - when a song has more than two stanzas, a faint tint runs through each alternate line, making it easy to keep your eyes on the proper place when singing.

The companion CD contains such favorites as "Jingle Bells," "Deck the Halls," and "O Holy Night." The lyric book is perfect for those who love to gather around the piano or organ and sing along.

Titles: Silent Night * Away in a Manager * The First Noel * Blue Christmas * Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas * Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree * Frosty the Snowman * Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer * Here Comes Santa Claus * Let It Snow * Winter Wonderland * The Coventry Carol * Burgundian Carol * Buon Natale * Auld Lang Syne * What Are You Doing New Year's Eve * Ring Out, Wild Bells, and much, much more.

The music is definitely for experienced pianists, but be sure and read the "stories behind the songs" at the beginning of each section for some fascinating insight into your favorite Christmas songs. This book is a definite must for those who love playing and singing Christmas music.

It is written in a narative style which makes it very easy to read. The stories are told by the people who were there, some happy, some sad ,some very funny.

If you are interested in the life of this man or even the history of modern day Rock and Roll Concert Production, how it started and evolved, I highly recomend this book.

This book is a little weird (to me) in concept but it works out really well in the end. The book goes from Bill's early days in Nazi Germany all the way to his death with no major stone left unturned. Lots of great stories with very little in the way of punches being pulled. I mean Bill really tells you what he is thinking. Very uncensored. Covers the drugs and the behind scenes stuff with no BS involved. Shows the guy for who he was, warts and all and lets him and the people he is talking about retort one another which I thought was weird in a good way. This book is of great interest to anyone who has probably gotten to this point in reading reviews. If you are interested in this type of subject then this book is a must.

This book is structured so that as Bill Graham comments on different times of his life, he allows the persons hes speaking of to comment in the next paragraph. This makes for some very interesting reading. Grham discusses his time in Korea and killing the enemy. This experience allows him to have an abundant amount of courage when it comes to dealing with band managers in the future. Bill discusses Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Zeppelin, the Stones, J Geils Band, Santana, the Who and all the tense dealings with each of these personalities. This book could have benefitted from better pictures of the bands. Thats my only critical comment.

I would like to rate the book separating the story from the recipes and the artwork. The story is just amazing, how John and Robert started Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker from nothing an how they learned about chocolate. It just leaves you with a really bitter aftertaste when you learn they sold their factory to a huge company that never specialized in fine chocolates. Sad.
As far as the recipes, there is a mix: some very simple and some very sophisticated. The good thing is that, because of the way they are presented, you don't need to be a pastry chef to be able to make them. It's one of those books that make you want to cook, it doesn't scare you.The photos are impressive.

Memoir: minus two stars. Reason: too disappointing they sold it, it just doesn't fit the story, such hard work, why selling it? To Hersheys!!! Unforgivable.

Recipes: 4 stars. Reason: some of them are confusing when it comes to ingredients, and the "Dulce de leche" one is SO sad it's even insulting. They could have done a better job at researching how to make good "Dulce de leche", it is not too hard.

Bravo!

What a beautiful book! I pretty much collect cookbooks and I definitely have my favorites. I had my eye on this one but I stopped myself from making the purchase (well... at least for a while). I am glad I did finally break down and buy it. Besides it being a truly beautiful book, it is filled with the inspiring story of how one can turn a tragedy around and how 2 people could do so much in such a short period of time (in the chocolate world). The recipes and pictures are truly inspiring. A lot of love went into this book!

This well written book is a must read for all pilots. When you read this you will be taken back in time to WWII, to landing on the moon, breaking the sound barrier, and the first man in space. Mr. Hoover has been an active participant in many historical events, he even tells why he was not the first to break the sound barrier. The book chronicals his exploits and then he backs up the stories with photos. I gave the book to my youngest son, who is going to fly in the USAF, and he could not put it down. If you like flying or airshows or history you need to read this book.

I did not know who Bob Hoover was before I started reading this book. Wow! What an amazing human and pilot. It's on my A list of autobiographies.

And, if you are a pilot, you will definitely want to read Forever Flying.

One of the greatest pilots

Some years ago I was at an airshow and watched Bob Hoover do things with a Shrike Commander that no twin-engined commuter airliner should be able to do. Afterwards he was amazingly modest and easy to talk to. Hoover is one of the greats - a life dedicated to flying and as a war pilot, a test pilot and an air display pilot he's done it all. Everything is faithfully recounted in this book. Yet there's something missing. True, it's an easy read. But it's also a bit sterile and I don't think it truly captures the man. Sadly the 'ghost' writer has done a less than brilliant job and the endless testimonies that appear would have been much more convincing had they been incorporated in the text. Also, they keep saying Lindberg was the first man to fly the Atlantic, but of course Alcock and Brown did it many years earlier. It's a great story but might have been better told.

Must-read for any aviation enthusiast

I looked at the negative reviews complaining of the writing style before reading this book. I'm happy to observe they are in my opinion off base. This book is written in an easy-going conversational style. It's filled with anecdotes and adventure. Bob Hoover is an aviation icon. To get a feel for who he is (if you don't already know), one of the pictures in the book shows Bob sitting next to Neil Armstrong, with Bob's wife sitting next to Charles Lindbergh on the other side of Neil. Hoover was buddies with Jimmy Doolittle. He's friends with Chuck Yeager (Hoover was chase pilot to Yeager's X-1 sound barrier flights). If you know who all these guys are, you'll love this book. If you want to find out who they are, this is a great book.If you don't care about such fine details of US aviation history, from pre-WWII to the jet age and the moon, you'll probably be happier reading something else.

I loved this book. I actually bought it for a friend, started reading it when it arrived, kept it for myself and bought several more copies for my friends. It's a book everyone should read from time to time. It's a really simple lesson we all forget to enjoy the 'now'. Many of the statements are wonderful and I find myself thinking about them often when hearing about people's everyday troubles or worries. Love the book and would recommend it to all. Read it and scatter happiness.

Hands down the best book of this sort!

I loved this book, it was the most freeing book ever! I saw Robert Holden on the Oprah Show. I really wonder if she actually read it, because she didnt touch on the true the essense of his message. Which was profoundly, "we need to stop 'trying' to fix ourselves". This is the missing link to benefiting from using the Law of Attraction to enhance your life.

If you read this book and really get the message, you will not try to fix yourself or anyone else, again.

A joy inspiring book

I am very happy to have this book as part of my collection. Robert Holden reminds us, among many things, that pleasure is happiness of the body, satisfaction is happiness of the world, and joy is happiness of the spirit. I love what he says about Joy:

"This is the happiness that goes with you wherever you go. Whereas physical pleasure and life satisfaction are born and then die, joy is eternal and timeless- it is happiness now. This joy is inward, it is deeply intimate, a part of the fabric of your soul, and it is the amazing grace of your spirit. As such, it is constant.

This joy is natural. It is 100 percent unconditional, non-judgmental, and free. Wherever you go, there It is. It is not empty, It is full. It is loving. It has consciousness. You can relate to It. You can ask It for guidance. You can ask It to shine Its Light upon your problems. You can sing to It, pray to It, and dance with It. You can meditate on It. You can draw with It, write with It, and heal with It. You can ask It to bless your relationships, your life, your career, everything. Let It be!" - Robert Holden Ph.D. p.137, Happiness Now

In Happiness Now, Holden offers a wealth of inspiring information and practices to help us to understand, embrace and feel happiness. Curled up on the couch, delighting in each page, the light of insight filled my head and heart many times. This is a very enjoyable and edifying read.

Over the last 8 years I have read around 300 personal/spiritual growth books. "Happiness NOW" by Robert Holden would be very close to the best I have read in that time. The book really brings out the fact that "success is not the way to happiness, happiness is the way to success". It is an inside job. You already have it, so it is not a case of searching, it is a matter of becoming aware.
