I pick this audiobook up recently and have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Gielgud and Richardson were simply amazing in their respective roles as Holmes & Watson, and I believe the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself would have approved.

Worth mentioning is another item I read recently, The Crime Doctor. This book depicts EW Horung's sleuth, Dr. John Dollar, in his exploits in England and throughout Europe.

Both products recieve 5 stars from me.

The All-Time BEST Sherlock Holmes Audiobook Stories...

I'm 25. I first heard Gielgud and Richardson's "The Speckled Band" back when I was in 6th grade. I found copies of the Baker Street Dozen stories at my local library, and would constantly check them out, over and over again. Around 8 or 9 years ago, I bought my own copies in a cassette boxed set, which have since worn out.

So I was more than thrilled to see this, the Baker Street Dozen stories on CD, and separated into chapters, at that! There are websites that have copies of these stories, but they are in terrible quality, or chopped up. For stories that were first recorded in 1953, they sound like they were recorded yesterday. I have a bunch of old radio broadcasts on CD, ranging from THE SHADOW to MURDER AT MIDNIGHT and THE GREEN HORNET, and their quality ranges from horrible to fair. But THIS, my friends, is British radio at its finest; fully dramatized, with music and sound effects that fit right into the story, characters that come to life, and stories that will keep you listening over and over again.

It seems everyone in America can't look past the Sherlock Holmes ideal with Basil Rathbone and his rendition of the great detective... nobody really bothers to look or listen to other actors' versions of the character. Sir John Gielgud is, in my opinion, the greatest portrayer of Holmes. EVER.

To wrap this up... if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan, GET THIS. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. The acting is superb, the quality is astounding for something that's over 50 years old, and the replay value is higher than high, because these stories are timeless. The game is afoot, and you should come along...

These great recordings were made for the BBC in 1954 and were first aired in the UK that year and in the US in early 1955. The casting is perfect John Gielgud as Holmes and Ralph Richardson as Watson could not be beaten for a radio broadcast, and this probably still holds true to this day 53 years later. Although I think Jeremy Brett would push Gielgud close even without the visual aspect.

The addition of Orson Welles as Prof Moriarty in the story The Final problem is the icing on the cake. That penetrating voice is chilling and truly Holmes/Geilgud meets his match in Welles/Moriarty. Any Sherlock Holmes fan should get these historic recordings - you really don't know what you are missing.

Three kinds of customers will appreciate this well-remastered collection: (1) Sherlockians, who love all things Doyle; (2) lovers of classic radio drama; (3) afficionados of two of England's finest actors of the modern stage, Sir John Gielgud (playing Holmes) and Sir Ralph Richardson (Watson). Since both actors also possessed two of the twentieth century's most mellifluous stage voices, these dramatizations are a feast for the ear. If you're at least two of these three customers in one, this reasonably priced set may be an irresistible buy. Get it now, before it goes out of print.

superb acting, excellent production and writing. it takes great skill to turn one of doyle's most excellent tales into a less than 30 minute radio play, and, to do a darn good job of it.
no matter how little time you have or how short your attention span, these are doable on the daily commute or while making dinner or housecleaning. if for some reason you are unable to read these stories, these cd's are the next best thing and a great introduction to the canon.

Best College Handbook Ever

This is by far the best overall guide for all college students, but especially graduating high school seniors. I recommend that it be introduced to a student well before applying to college. It is wonderful gift to a student and should be 'required reading' for all parents before sending their children off to college. The format is ideal and the topics discussed are most contemporary for what kids now face their very first semester. This true survival guide will be well appreciated throughout one's college experience.

As a high school guidance counselor since 1995 I have searched for and reviewed most publications that attempt to assist prospective students excel during their college years. This book is one of the most unique I have found. Since it was written by a current student, the approach, perspective and even the vocabulary is in line with today's youth.
I had several students review it for me as well. Their feedback was very positive, especially the "real world" approach to some difficult subjects like dating, drinking, diet and exercise. The advice on leveraging professor's office time and tips to improve study habits were also well received. Our school, a private academy, is giving a copy to each senior as part of their "Get Sarted Packet" upon graduation. Highly recommended to any student graduating this year or in the recent past.

I got a copy of 'Ahead of the Pack' for my son headed to college as a graduation present. He's not a big reader in general, however he did not put it down until it was finished. I asked him about the contents and what he thought. His response was "awesome". The book seems to reach young people where they are in preparation for college and answer many questions for them from a peer, not a old man like me!

As a recent university graduate (2 years in the 'real world'), I can say that I wish this book had been available when I was entering collegiate life. It really helps incomming freshman, and even upper-classmen, avoid many of the seemingly invisible pitfalls of campus life. I gave this book to my cousin who is entering college this fall, and told him to take notes. He wrote me a thankyou note a few weeks later, and said that he thought it was a cheezy gift, but that he read a couple pages, and finished it in a week! Cheezy indeed. anyway, by this for yourself, or someone you know entering college, and you will not be displeased. five stars!

Finally, an author young enough to relate to young adults, yet mature enough to lead them with integrity. Mr. Richardson's moral values shine through as he tackles everything from budgeting to sexual concerns. This book can be read in it's entirety, or in segments, as it's easily divided by topics. This book is an excellent read from the time a High Schooler in in 10th grade, through (at least) their first year in college. What a great gift as High School graduation invitations are rolling in!

This is the best book I have read on spirituality and the human soul. It is written so that even a sceptic will find reason to believe in God and His Angels. The author takes you on a spiritual journey that shows that although people have free will when something is God's will there is nothing anyone can do to stop it. I found the book moving and very inspiring, It is not just another cute book of angel stories. It is template that gives its readers hope and a plan for living a fuller, happier life.

This was the first book of Keith's that I'd read, and I was totally engrossed with the stories. The allegories convey ideas on many levels, and it's a book that allows readers to walk away with different levels of insight, depending on the individual reader's personal knowledge. What you gain from reading this book is proportionate to what you bring to the table. I see myself rereading this book ten years from now and, hopefully, understanding it on a higher level. Anyway, this is a must read.

I am a student at UNLV our local University in Las Vegas, NV and in a "paranormal" class with Dr. Raymond Moody who wrote LIFE AFTER LIFE and as a part of the classwork he brought Andy Lakey and Keith and Francesca Richardson of the THINGS FROM HEAVEN BOOK STORE in Ventura, CA where they sell Andy Lakey paintings and jewelry. After hearing these TRUE STORIES of so-called Miracles that have occurred in this Store as a result of Andy's paintings I immediately bought this book as I am a TRUE BELIEVER IN ANGELS myself. I whole heartedly recommend this book to everyone. A MUST READ as it teaches and inspires and gives testimonials from people who have actually been HEALED from going into this Angel Store and being around these paintings. These stories will give people more FAITH IN A HIGHER POWER (not religious necessarily) to assist them in opening their own HEARTS to "so-called miracles" and accepting this can happen to them (regardless of the appearance) and to their loved ones too. A TRULY INSPIRATIONAL BOOK FOR EVERYONE TO READ.

Julius Richardson - Master Golf Instructor

This is the first golf instruction book that really shows you the basics to improving your golf game! I have been playing golf on and off for many years. This book breaks down the entire golf game in very easy to understand steps. If you apply the six "basic angles" in the book and practice them you will surely see positive results! I'm a true believer in the concepts. Why? Because they work! They absolutely make sense! In fact you don't even need to swing a golf club to practice the angles. Get the book and you will see for yourself. I had the pleasure of meeting Julius quite by accident after I had been applying his principles. I told him in person that he had changed my whole approach to golf.

I am somewhat biased because I know Julius, but I wouldn't know him if he wasn't a great teacher. He has a very unique approach that is completely different from the run-of-the-mill teacher and probably everyone else in the Top 100. As a golf professional, he was very instrumental in helping me take my game to the next level. I have seen him work with beginners and average players alike, and he gets results like no one else. His teaching approach is in this book, and anyone who gets it will benefit.

Julius is the best golf instructors that I have taken a lesson from. Julius fixed flaws THAT EVEN DR. JIM SUTTIE COULDN'T FIX -and the best part about it was that it cost me half the price. I dropped my handicap down from a 20 to a (10-12) handicap - over a 3 month period taken 2-3 lessons/month. TRUST ME, when it comes to building a fundamental golf swing that is consistent, Julius is one of the best.
While some of the other top 100 golf instructors that I have taken from talk angles and formulas, Julius talks feel/fundamentals and less clutter of the mind while preparing to strike the ball. If your a beginner or want to improve your fundamentals, read this book or come to Chicago in the summer and take lessons from him -you won't regret it.

I was a little skeptical when a friend suggested that I buy and read this book but after going completely through it, I was guite surprised how easy the reading was and it all tied together. I have read a ton of books, mags, tips on got but this was very different. I personally sought out Julius for lessons after reading his book and it has completely changed my approach to golf. His unique style makes learning golf not only fun but he incorporates real life situations with his examples. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to better their game both physically and mentally.

Correct Address Positions Lead to Better Golf
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-10
This is a different kind of instructional book on golf. Instead of focusing on mechanics and positions in the swing, the author keys on six angles vital to effective ball striking. Five are established in addressing the ball. All are clearly defined and illustrated. The book also contains some excellent drills to help the reader get into better positions at address. There are chapters on the short game and even a few pages on the swing itself. This is an excellent book for anyone above a 10- or 12-handicap or for any golfer who has come to the conclusion that setting up to the ball correctly makes up at least 75 percent of effective ball striking. It is also easy to read. Most importantly, the key points made can be put to the test right away at the driving range.

If you're tired of the same old mayhem and violence in just about every medium, then The Blissmaker is a must read. I purchased the delux addition complete with CD, as a birthday present to myself. I lite a few candles, set back in my easy chair and simple couldn't put the book down until I'd read every word, listened to every note. It was the best birthday gift I'd received in all my 60 years.

From the beautifully designed dust jacket to the very last word this book keeps you completely engaged in a story within a story of mystery, music and a significate spiritual sense that this could be leading to something, something new yet born of profound ancient wisdom.

Humorus, provocative and inspiring are all terms that come to mind, but mostly just pure joy. Yes, The Blissmaker is a great gift, give it to yourself, then give it to a friend.

Jared Grayson is a teacher and composer scheduled for a planned meeting with a renowned music producer when he is called to the hospital to identify a seriously injured man thought to be his uncle. That is when a sage and enigmatic man uses Jared's own music to draw him and others into parallel adventures to walk the fine line between magic and madness -- and never quite certain as to which was which!. The Blissmaker is a unique fantasy adventure novel that is accompanied by a CD showcasing musical compositions and lyrical songs that form a kind of auditory special effects enhancement to a riveting text. In this unique and enthusiastically recommended novel, author, composer and artist Royce Richardson demonstrates himself an original and masterful storyteller of the first order.

The Blissmaker Weaves an Intricate Tapestry

Review Date: 2001-08-11
The Blissmaker follows the adventures, insights and synchronicities of Jared Grayson, 38 year old music teacher and so far unsuccessful composer, as his life takes an ever more metaphysical dive into an alternative reality that at once seems familiar and "right" and at the same time bizarre and downright comical.

Just as he is about to meet with a famous composer who could finally get his career on track, Jared is led step by unruly step into relationships with a comatose uncle, a ethereal young woman, a poetic graffiti-writing street person and more unique, carefully described characters than you usually find in a five book series! Jared's openly portrayed responses to these people and the effect they are having on his life and his concepts of himself, the universe and reality are exquisitely revealed as the reader is tenderly drawn into the same sensual experiences Jared encounters.

The characters all are drawn to Uncle Ben (Shankara) who magically captivates larger and larger groups who are lured to hear him speak about...whatever it is he is actually discussing. He weaves a spell that Jared hears surrounded by his own unpublished music. As readers, we can hear the music too because there is a CD available that plays the music and records Shankara's words while we read the words and see the music graphically. This multi-dimensional encounter moves the reader off the page and into the experience in profoundly inspiring ways.

Brilliantly and beautifully written, illustrated, composed and presented, The Blissmaker transcends any category of book and presents a totally unique and unforgettable experience.

"Everything is of your choosing, no matter how helpless you believe or have been told you are." ...The Blissmaker

I was one of the fortunate persons who assisted with the birthing of a fabulous new novel, The Blissmaker, by author, and my friend, Royce Richardson. It all started more than seven years ago when the story began to unfold. You know that not many books are beautiful, but I am here to say that what you will see when you hold this book in your hand is an exquisite hardcover volume with a satin ribbon bookmark built right in, and a colorful and intriguing cover-all of which was designed and created by the author. As you are drawn into the reading, you will find yourself involved with a struggling middle-aged composer whose life begins to change radically and unexpectedly. He encounters a strange mentor who comes into his life in a seemingly impossible way and turns everything upside down: his expectations and beliefs and even his longings. The more you read the more you discover a depth of experience unlike any novel written. The songs, poems, illustrations, and even musical scores create an all-encompassing reading event-one that does not stop with a simple plot. This is a joyous adventure story interwoven with information and perceptions that will challenge and entice you, clear to the very end. I highly recommend you just accept my word and get this book.

Last year, I took a continuing ed course and this book was a part of the curriculum. I am a homeschool mom who was formerly a classroom teacher. But, I taught middle school not early elementary. At first, because I didn't have a lot of experience with this age, I didn't know how effective the activities in this book would be. But, after using it for a year, I would enthusiastically recommend it to both classroom teachers and homeschool teachers! It is a wonderful approach to helping young students really grasp and understand math--not just learn wrote mathematics. One of the things I love most about this book is how she clearly identifies what children need to learn, conceptually, in order to truly learn how to count, understand patterns, and grasp more/less. What's also wonderful is how little prep the activities in the book take! They are so easy to prep for! As a homeschool mom of a 4 year old and 2 year old with one on the way, my time is already stretched. But, this book allows me to do interactive lessons with my daughters (and modify them for my 2 year old) with very little prep involved.

Developing Number Concepts is fantastic!

I bought this guide before I left for Egypt this past spring and let me tell you, I was amazed at how useful it proved to be. I spent 5 months in Cairo and I took it with me every time I went out! It has all the information you need to visit the most popular places, as well as some of the most innaccesible areas. I was able to figure out bus schedules for trips to Maadi, Giza, Mohandeseen & Saqqara, as well as entertainment information and cultural advice. I learned from it how much I should pay for a taxi and where to find belly-dancing outfits at Khan-el-Khalili. Also, I used it to go around Islamic Cairo and visit some of the most wonderful mosques, all on my own. Their maps and nformation are invaluable! They even cover trips to the oasis, Sinai and places only an Egyptologist would know of! (I was amazed).
In addition, it has useful arabic phrases, guides to cities and ancient sities with descriptions and historical background. Really, get one before you leave! I used the Rough guide to Syria and it is just as good...

It is so richly packed with information including walking guides through Islamic Cairo and the Cairo Museum. Brilliant book. The author knows Egypt inside and out and I cannot stress enough... if you are going to Egypt.. BUY THIS BOOK! Great maps, language section and very easy to reference in a hurry. The prices are a bit outdated but you will learn what is standard shortly after you get there anyway.

Overall I was quite pleased with this guide. It provided accurate information for transportaion details, hotels and restaurants and gave good basic introductions to the sites and cities, as well as what to expect in the culture. The city maps were accurate and the maps of ancient egyptian monuments were helpful and enough for me, though anyone with a serious interest in them will want to pick up something extra (the guide recommends titles). DOn't rely on the arabic section at the back - if you need to teach yourself any arabic for a trip you'd do best to buy an egytian arabic phrasebook as the rough guides section is small and can mislead your pronounciation.

While my companion and I had four guide books between us for our two week trip, the Rough Guide was the one that we constantly referred to. After a while, we didn't even look at the others, even though they had fancier and more colorful illustrations. By far, the Rough Guide gave us more, and more useful, information on the locations we visited than the others. The descriptions of the various neighborhoods and the sights along the way were most helpul in our planning for the one free day in Cairo that we had from our group tour. We also appreciated the discussion of customs and practices (the notes on baksheesh, for example, helped us gain a better understanding of a practice that many Americans found annoying). An added benefit: it weighed less than the fancier guides with glossy pages, so it was far easier to carry with us.

We had purchased both LP and Rough Guide for our Egypt trip this past April (2005). I was reluctant to get RG for two reasons: 1. I generally think LP's are better and am used to their user-friendly format. 2. RG's most recent edition was published in early 2003 and with all the recent uncertainty in the area, I was nervous to rely on information from 2-3 years ago. However, for this trip, the RG was far better! The main reason it was more useful than LP was that it contained much more detailed explanations of the sites/museums. This book contained maps to almost all the major sites/museums with corresponding letters to explanations of the hieroglyphics/objects within the sites/museums - Far more information than LP. Of course, it also had the usual practical information (hotels, restaurants, getting around, etc.) which we relied upon as well. If you want to choose just one book to take with you as an independent traveler, my advice is to take this one.

I just returned from a lovely stay at La Luna e i Falo, and enjoyed six nights of impeccable meals prepared by Elena and Franco. Our meals included all of the recipes from this cookbook, and I must say, not one of them disappointed! I was able to read this cookbook while at the farm, and made a note to immediately try to find it when I returned home. Amazon is the only place to get it, since it is now out of print. It was only released in America, so you can't even find an Italian version of the book. The other recipes from other cooks featured in the book look equally as good. You can't get more authentic, regional recipes than those that are found here. I highly recommend it!

This is a great Italian cookbook, very different from most of the cookbooks you see. Not only does it have great recipes but it also tells great stories about all the various farms the authors visit. And it also tells you how you can visit the farms yourself. The pictures in particular are very interesting. They are not the usual slick shots. It seems like they were all done on location and they have a feel of food photo-journalism. This book has great recipes and great heart and soul.

The best book on really authentic Italian cooking

In this world inundated with tomes devoted to Italian cooking, this wonderful book stands out. The author spent years researching, collecting and testing authentic, seasonal farmhouse recipes (from all over the country) made with only the freshest ingredients. (The recipes are full-proof!!) This is one of the few books that allows everyone to make some of the most appetizing Italian dishes--just as the Italians do. Everything is explained in detail--from ingredients to techniques to customs to mail-order sources--in one of the most complete books ever written on the subject. And if this weren't enough, the flavor of the food is beautifully captured in some of the most exquisite photographs ever taken of Italy and its food. This book is a MUST for anyone who likes to cook and/or eat the most mouth-watering Italian cuisine!!

This volume has an impact as important as Norman Vincent Peale.
God Just Showed Up,inspired me to send a Linda Watkins book to each household of my family. Not to celebrate a special day but
the joy and blessings of our interconnectedness, finally in praise of being a part of the larger community on this small planet; the renewal of my faith in the omniscience under which we all of us reside.

Everyone has a story to tell

This book just confirmed to me that everyone has a story to tell. That story you may wish or may not wish to tell may mean the difference between someone's freedom or bondage or even the difference between life and death. What was so compelling about the stories was the fact each and every story was uniquely different, yet were equally powerful. I was so moved by this book that I could hardly put it down. I've been recently diagnosed with Lipo-sarcoma cancer. I am not worried or fearful because I know what God can do. God showed up many times in my life when I knew Him and when I didn't want to know Him. I can think of many times when He stepped in at the right moment and saved me from an impending disaster. I witnessed God's grace up close and personal two years ago when my wife suffered from two ruptured aneurysms resulting in two separate brain surgeries. I was quickly swept into the role of full-time caregiver and single dad. It was one of the most enduring times of my life and one of the lonliest times of my life, but I leaned on God throughout the whole time and He brought us all through. My wife's faith and unwavering trust in God has helped me get through this period in my life. Many people fall apart when they get the news that they have Cancer. I am not angry or upset. I often wonder if I am normal to feel this way. I realize that it is the power of God that is sustaining me, just like all the others in the book. Hats off to Linda Watkins for a fabulous work. I hope that I can possibly contribute to the next volume. I tell my stories all the time unashamedly. You never know that person you run into might just be the person God intended for you to run into that day to save their life.

I recently completed this God inspired book and found it to be fulfilling and touching. It allowed me to see how God revealed Himself to my African-American brothers and sisters, and confirms my understanding of His grace and mercy. He is a God that touches all races, nationalities, ages etc., but this book allowed me to embrace what He can do through others that are just like me. Others that share in the obstacles that we face as a race. Others that triumph over the challenges that are put before us. God showed up for me as well and I just want to acknowledge what Linda Watkins has done to place examples of His goodness before us. I recommend this book that compiles just a few of His demonstrations of love. If we but trust in God as pointed out in so many of the testimonies, we would as a people and a nation be so much better off. God will show up in your life if you just be open to Him. Thank you Linda Watkins for sharing your relationship with God as well.

A New Man Through Christ by Lewis Lee

This particular segment of the book touched my heart on a personal basis. Lewis Lee is a very dear Christian brother and friend of mine. I visit with him in prison on a regular basis and we share everything with each other, especially great joy, many laughs, and, most importantly, he spends a great deal of our visits sharing his love of Jesus with me and does great works for me, too, because of his willingness to be my very much needed Christian mentor. My dear friend may be a "lifer", which some people consider as the "scum of the earth", but the Lewis I know as a friend in addition to having read this testimony of his only validates for me, once more, the most awesome power of God's ability to change anyone's lives as His almighty power did for my friend, Lewis. We all need to keep in our minds and hearts that God doesn't make junk! My friend, Lewis, is living proof of that to me! Praise God!

This book explains how the body works and provides strategies
to make it work better. It begins with a discussion on the
computation of fat grams obtained by multiplying calories by (.3)
and dividing the overall result by 9. The author cautions
against having too much sugar, fats or sweets in the diet.
He advises to increase Omega-3 fatty acids, soy, fiber, Ca.,
B vitamins and Vitamins A-E (anti-oxidants)

Dr. Richardson advises us to avoid or minimize red meat, butter,
cheese and to reduce milk consumption. In addition, he stresses
that we should have realistic weight loss goals, reduce smoking
and reduce alcohol. Recommended dietary supplements are aloe,
Ca., capsicum, chamomile, CO Q 10 enzyme, cranberry,
echinacea, flaxseed, garlic, ginger, ginseng, gingko biloba,
grapeseed extract, licorice,peppermint and psyllium.
He indicates that sleep apneas can precipitate heart arrhythmias.
There is an important section dealing with arthritis. The author
explains that the Cox-2 inhibitors are safer than aspirin for
reducing inflammation. Dr. Richardson explains how chlamydia
are an infectious agent in plaque. In addition, the C-reactive
protein is a marker for inflammation. Special tests indicating
an increase in homosystein levels are causative factors in
blood clots. The author explains how magnets influence pain signals transmitted in sensory nerves. In addition, general
magnetic fields alter electrical impulse conduction.

Peak flow devices and meter dose inhalers measure and monitor
air flow. These assist patients in maintaining breathing
capacity/function. This work is a treasure chest of medical
knowledge which is a "must read" for your personal medicinal
library.

In this world of information overload it is refreshing to finally read from an author who avoids sensational yet unproven theories and fads in health care that others use to sell their books. Dr Richardson give us accurate and understandable advice about our bodies and the diseases we may face. He does this in such a clear and practical way that it almost makes me want to move to Charlotte just to have him as my personal physician! This is the health care book I have been looking for and I highly recommend it to all!

I have already pulled this book out three times in the first week that I have had it to look up specific conditions affecting me, my family or friends. I like the amount of information given and found the explanations easy to understand without being simplistic. Very user friendly reading!

You will want to read all of Part One which explains (in a way that motivated me) the effects of your current diet, exercise, drinking, smoking behavior on your current and future health. I also found it helped me initiate discussions with my parents about their health habits in a non-judgmental way. You will learn a lot in the straight-forward section about all those dietary supplements you see advertised today.

Part Two is the reference guide. Very well organized with very helpful glossery and index. You will reach for this guide often when someone you know is having health challenges.
