Ease of a Novel, but Its serious business and value for moneyReview Date: 2008-10-16
I picked up this book and started reading, and it was like all the missing pieces were found, and my understanding stood on a more solid ground. To give a few examples, the coverage of the following things in the second chapte, were pivotal in plugging the gaps in my understanding.
- how to differtiate a UE in uplink as well as downlink
- principles of WCDMA physical layer - channelization & scrambling codes, soft handover, use of compressed mode & power management. These are known by any person who has a "more than casual" study of the UMTS access, but they were clearly marked as differtiators.
- Radio and data connections
- UMTS security architecture etc
What clinches the deal for me is Chapter 3 with its clear explanations of single user spreading code use, multi-user spreading code use(to mention a few) with clear diagrammatic illustrations.
The author has distilled years of experience in this book; any user who is suffciently experieced in wireless networks can pick this book up and glide across from beginning to end
This book caters to R99 UMTS networks;the only thing i wish this book had was the coverage of newer technologies - HSDPA, HSUPA and LTE.

An excellent referenceReview Date: 2004-06-18
The contributors include members of Catholic, Anglican, Protestant and Orthodox communities, and from all over the world. As Richardson said in the introduction to the first edition, theology is an immensely wide subject, intertwined with history, philosophy, politics, science and fundamental communications theory. It is in this light that the dictionary continues to be updated, as theological enterprises continue to push boundaries and explore new dimensions of faith and practice.
The list of contributors reads like a who's who in Christian thought; the list goes on for eight pages. The entries, ranging from a few sentences to a few pages in length, number in the hundreds, and deal with a wide range of terms and topics of concern to theological issues -- biblical criticism, historical issues, theological terminology, philosophical intersections with theology, and religious studies topics.
Each of the significant entries (those that are more than basic definitions) include references to theologians and particular works that develop the ideas. Often, a single idea or topic (Justification, for example, or the Problem of Evil) will have divergent, sometimes even contradictory sections in the entry, which reflects the diversity of opinion within Christian thinking.
Bowden's introduction (he took over the project after Richardson) talks of this dictionary being, as was its predecessor edition, a product of the time -- as such, topics such as feminist theology, liberation theology, and other more recent topics are covered, but as they are developing quickly, the entries may be by necessity incomplete; some most recent topics are missing altogether. However, it is in the nature of volumes such as this to be incomplete, given that the field is continually developing.
This is one of my standard reference books. I keep it handy during all my seminary and scholarly work. It is an essential volume for students, and a very present help for ministers and other readers interesting in theological ideas.

Essays in Calvinist Social Theory by RichardsonReview Date: 2004-05-28
transcend scientific and sociotechnic systems. Instead, God is seen as a unifying presence aiming toward a righteous world manifested in a meaningful existence for man. The author challenges us to develop and apply new ethical principles to live
more harmoniously. Ultimately, he urges us to create a religious
foundation for every intellectus both collective or individual.
He applies a universal theory of unity to individuals and category systems of every relation and concept of whole.Ultimately, the author sees value in the soul of human beings despite the poverty and human misery which pervades a large part of the world around us.

A Delightful Story of Simple Trust in GodReview Date: 2000-04-10
What impresses me most is the trust of the children in God in spite of all the difficulties and their readiness to face the challenges in life because they are confident that God will be their helper.
An interesting and easy to read story and one that I did not find easy to put down the moment I started reading because I was curious to know the outcome of the children in the various homes that adopted them. Children will enjoy this book. So will adults.

An Airedale fancier absolutely must have this book. It tells the true history of the breed as a working dog, which is so far from our Airedales today. Richardson's Airedales were substantial, heavily boned creatures who were expected to use their brains and were incredibly smart.
I'd also have to recommend another book, Paws & Effect: The Healing Power of Dogs, which has a chapter called An Army of Two. That chapter gives the latest information in the training of a military dog by telling the story of an American Special Forces officer in Iraq. Reading both books gives you the classic history and the up to date account. I recommend both books.
