Bones of Contention is a who-done-it mystery romance story that will keep you turning the pages. Who will Ivy end up with in the end????

Wonderfully entertaining

If you like romantic suspense with fun and flare, you'll love Bones of Contention by Sherri Richardson. Ivy Edwards' ill-timed romantic interludes and awkwardly effective sleuthing will either arrest you in your seat or roll you out of it. If you love romantic suspense, this book is a must have.

This book is on the book "Aufbau..." of Carnap and the view of Richardson on it. Only interesting for specialists.

an excellent resource on analytic philosophy

Alan Richardson does an excellent job of explaining and defending Carnap's project. Richardson combines his extensive knowledge of the history of philosophy (especially Kant and the analytics) and his ability to make clear otherwise difficult passages from Carnap. The book is informative, well-written, and very rewarding if a good effort is put forth into reading it.

Two friends chipped in to give me this book for my birthday and I am so grateful! OK, it looks a little amateur hour, but the designers and editors have come up with a really good way to help settle that uneasy feeling of nausea that comes from looking at too many pictures of cats. I'm of the school that believes my own cats are pretty good looking, but that the cats of others are basically monsters just seeking attention. Magazines like CAT FANCY try to dress up this unpalatable truth and pretend that we all love each other's cats and even cats in shelters. Instead McDaris and Pearson go here for the DIY, not to mention scary look. The endpapers (designed by McDaris) display a hanging spider web of lit filaments (like Shelob) studded with floating cat heads, like an early Judy Bolton mystery. And the writing is pretty cat-skeptical too, especially Amy Kellner's scathing expose of the thinking behind those rancid "Hang in There, Baby" drawings of cats clinging to tree branches and clotheslines. Hate them!

Roe Ethridge has a cat that looks cute, but it's asleep, possibly dead, in this photo, a cat on a blue linen tablecloth with white stitching like a baseball. Steve Lafreniere presents the cats and the cat photos of his mother--at one point, he recalls, there were no fewer than sixteen cats living with them--in Chicago, where the cats are more vulnerable and yet tougher than other cities--its artists too I think. It is more the story of a human, a woman whose passion for photography took her to Rolleiflex but just short of professional status, the ultimate mystery, rather than how cute her cats were. Somehow Ryan McGinley got his cat to climb up a piece of gauze (like Doris Day) and shot it from underneath, light stirring in the cat's left eye like an aspirant to great stardom. I'm not used to gee the George Hurrell side of Ryan McGinley, but here it is. And is that really Bruce LaBruce in Terry Richardson's picture of a masked, naked man crouched over a pan of kitty litter? Bruce, you look gooood!

Had I the time I would comment on every text and picture in the book, but they are mostly all of a piece, and that is, most of them are sort of offputting at first, than one admires the ingenuity and the freshness with which the writers and artists carried out their assignment. Terence Koh, dressing your cat in that flat, white Peggy Lee wig must be a comment of Lee's impersonation of the Siamese in LADY AND THE TRAMP? If not, what is your excuse! You're scaring me here . . .

Most interesting cat book yet!

This is not your typical cat book with cutesy photos and silly conceits ( think "why cat's paint"......)
Assorted artists get real with all the angles on the feline world and they dont' hold back. Highly amusing and a visual treat.

Mothers - your cheerleading children need this!

My friend and her daughter live and breathe cheerleading. I had no idea just how important conditioning was for cheerleaders. After reading Rik's book, they have a much better understanding of strength and how to properly perform the exercises. They are grateful that I thought of them when I saw Rik's book and gave them a copy. I am receiving physical therapy for my shoulder and feel badly when I see teenage girls receiving therapy because of a cheerleading injury. I hope other mothers will get this book for their cheerleader children.

An outstanding hands on reference book!

A back handspring is one of the keys to making any cheer squad and as a parent of several daughters, I can't begin to tell you how important making the squad is to each of them. Reading Rik's book on "Cheerleading: Conditioning for Back Handspring & Tumbling Success!" really opened my eyes regarding how much conditioning plays a critical role in safety and success in tumbling. Every parent of a cheerleader or a young athlete trying out for the squad should get a copy of this book. Combined with Rik's other book, "Back Handsprings: The Secret Techniques," any cheerleader would gain a tremendous advantage during tryouts and throughout the season.

I have alot of books on interior design and style. This is the one I would grab if my house was on fire. If I could crawl in between the pages, I'd take up permanent residence there. This is mostly a picture book. There's little text but tons of awesome photos that speak volumes. I give it my highest recommendation. Spend the money. You won't be disappointed.

This has been one of the best books I have read in grad school. Basically, it deals with the creation of the British Anatomy Act and with the criminalization of poverty. However, it's also got great info about grave robbing, murder for body-procurement, burial practices, and corpse decomposition - and it's extremely readable. Richardson explains that she began this book while reading Shelley's Frankenstein and with questions she had about the meanings of dissection and the body. This book is not about Frankenstein, but it's a must-read if you are to truly understand the society that Frankenstein was created for. It's also a must-read if you are at all interested in anatomy, poverty, or social policy dealing with anatomy and poverty.

I have taught elementary math for over 20 years, and have a master's degree in math education. I found this to be the best book on teaching basic concept of addition and subtraction I have ever had. There are numerous activities which require little preparation, group and individual activities, all of which will teach your students to understand the real meaning of the concepts and help them develop fluency with numbers that will make a significant difference in their futures with math.

A "Must Have" for Every Elementary Teacher

This Developing Number Concepts Book, along with the other two books in the Developing Number Concepts series, presents a complete number curriculum for kindergarten through third grade. This book, as well as the other two,are clearly written and extremely user friendly. This book,Addition and Subtraction, gives novice and experienced teachers a close look at what the teacher needs to know about teaching these operations. The activities are simple and require manipulatives and materials most teachers already possess, yet at the same time are child centered and motivating. The "Analyzing and Assessing Children's Needs" section is an excellent model for providing ongoing assessment in the classroom. I believe these books are a must for every elementary teacher.

This is an immediate, intense account of child abuse.

Review Date: 1999-03-21
Jennifer J. Richardson doesn't hold forth on the failure of our social agencies to protect abused children, and she doesn't lecture on the psychodynamics of victimization. She lets Charlotte, a victim of violent parents, tell her own story in her own words. Richardson provided a factual framework based on Charlotte's diary and then put me into Charlotte's head, which is a terrifying and puzzling place. Once there, though, I had no influence on her. "Now's your chance to get away," I'd say, but Charlotte stayed put. Finally, when I was about to give up on her, she did some things right. As she began to see her life for what it was, so did I. By the end of the book, I understood the trap she had been in and why it took her so long to try to get out of it. Nevertheless, when I finished, I wanted to know more, which is, I think, the sign of a really good book.

Incredibly intense story. I read it straight through.

An exhausting account of one woman's life of abuse and healing. This is a woman with the courage to lay out the harsh truth so that she may heal all the way through; to the very core of her existence. I began this book one evening, and finished it a few hours later- not a story you can break from. I commend this woman for her strength; she is truly an inspiration. This book has helped me alot. Thank you, Jennifer J. Richardson.
