"Nowhere is there a more happier book!"Review Date: 1999-09-26
This is a lovingly remembered book by the Dick and Bob, put together with the help of a few amazingly dedicated fans. Bruce & David and Jeff have produced another gem of a book. With them, too much is never enough.. the photographic treasures, the office cartoons all give the impression of being invited to dinner with the Shermans. I was lucky enough to hear the Shermans at the piano for a preview of this book at a Disney fan's convention last year. That was a night I'll never forget.. as the brothers sang their way through the songs of my childhood. Now the feeling of that night (and my childhood) has been captured in print, and I can't be happier! Thanks guys, it's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious !

"Let's play Follow the Leader!" Perhaps you remember playing this game when you were younger. Didn't we all want to be the leader? In fact, were you disappointed when you weren't chosen to be the leader? We can't all be leaders all of the time. Imagine if we all wanted to be leaders in the workplace. You can't all be leaders as there has to be some followers. Perhaps you have been placed in a position of being a leader and aren't quite sure what qualities a leader should possess. What should a leader do in order to have his followers walk alongside him to success?
Are all leaders always successful? No, they aren't. It is a smart leader who realizes his mistakes, makes changes and leads others in the right direction. "The Way of Leading People" seeks to convey the Tao Te Ching method of leadership. It is over 2500 years old but remains effective to this day. Not only can these principles be utilized in business, but also in relationships and life.
"The Way of Leading People" is a soft-cover manual. This is not a textbook by any means. It is written in very easy-to-understand language and is sure to help any of its readers. There are 81 sections in content. Each section is written in poems with the ideas of Tao Te Ching clearly presented. Each section has black and white pictures of large skyscrapers and other abstract art to add to the ideas. It is sure to make you think and evaluate just what a successful leader is. This is an excellent book for anyone who is currently a leader, hopes to be a leader or is a follower who wants to help his leader become more effective. "The Way of Leading People" would make an excellent addition to the reference section of libraries of businesses and families alike.

The definitive textbook for navigating the global economy...Review Date: 2008-03-28
"When Cultures Collide" is more than just a book on doing business internationally; it is guide to communicating effectively with the individuals of these diverse and emerging markets across the global marketplace.
Divided among the "Lewis Model," the author examines and divides cultural types through what he calls "linear-active, multi-active, and reactive variations." For example, the Germans and the Swiss are considered "linear-actives" as they thoughtfully plan, schedule, organize, doing one thing at a time; in contrast, the Chinese, Japanese, and Finns tend to be "reactives" since they value and priortize courtesy and respect, as they listen quietly and react carefully to another's proposal.
The book has been tremendeously helpful to me in negotiating deals foreign clients allowing me to avoid the faux pas we Americans erroneously commit while doing business with our international customers.
In a nutshell, the author examines how the mind--any mind is conditioned even at an early age. As a result, the irreversible nature of this childhood training establishes a relationship between langauge, action and thought.
For anyone who does business internationally, or simply wishes to find out more about the other cultures on this ever-shrinking planet we share and inhabit, Lewis's book is a must read.
When in RomeReview Date: 2008-03-14
Author Richard D. Lewis believes that graduates of liberal studies are often better equipped to deal with foreign nationals in a more meaningful way than graduates of programs from which business persons typically come, such as the social sciences, and observes that liberal studies graduates rarely end up with careers in international business. That was music to the ears of this reader, a lawyer whose BA was in English and History and who is eager for an opportunity to exercise his professional skills in an international setting.
I only read the Parts I and II; I didn't get to Part III, which provides detailed analyses for individual nations and regions. But when I have the opportunity to do business or travel abroad, I will certainly come back to this wonderful book.

Working only in the USA? Well this is a good resource to understand some of the folks you'll manage or work with from other cultures.
Everybody is foreign to somebody but we can all work togetherReview Date: 2006-10-24
The first half of the book covers different concepts (e.g. time, communication, life outlook) for a variety of countries. The second half is an encyclopedia of short chapters on different specific countries.
While being expert at working in another culture comes only with time, it's certainly worth reading parts of this book (the general chapters plus a specific country's chapter) before your first working meeting on a multi-cultural project.

An Indespensible Resource for Win32 ProgrammingReview Date: 1999-09-04
I'm new to Win32 programming, but found this book readable, with good explainations and examples, and it continues to be a excellent detailed reference. The CD which complements the book is also very good, offering updates to the book and code which can be used in your own programs.
However, I do regret the lack of information about Common Controls, and a Message Reference, which are in the second book, 'The Windows Common Control and Messages API Bible', which explains why I only give four stars.
Despite this, I would recommend both these books (and possibly the third for those interested in ODBC or Telephoney) for any Win32 programmer, old or new. In one word, indespensible.

Take this book WITH you on your holiday travels, your holiday visits. It will charm hearts over cups of hot chocolate. It will make your loved ones smile with you. It will make the kids crowd round to get the best view of the sheepish illustrations.
:) It's a TEN! Why can I only give this five stars? (G)
Very rarely do we get to find poetry that dovetails the best of traditional, with the best of now. . .making that singsong layering that you revisit again and again- each time getting another angle from the text.
Lisa Wheeler's rhyme will have you reliving those "a-ha" moments from your own family memories.
You're going to say, "When is her next book coming out? I HAVE to get it!"
. . .everyone asks to borrow this book and I tell them to go buy their own copy. ;-) There's the books you lend, and then there's the books you just can't bear to part with. Ewe know what I mean! :))

APPRECIATE IT. "365 DAYS TO RECOVERY FROM RELIGION" SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN WRITTEN TO GENERATE DISCUSSION, TO PROVOKE THINKING ABOUT ONE'S DEEPEST BELIEF BEYOND THOSE TAUGHT IN CHILDHOOD. IT DEFINETLY MADE ME THINK.
THIS BOOK PRESENTS ATHEISM WITH SINCERITY AND LOGIC. IT DISCREDITS THE HUMAN DESIRE FOR A HIGHER POWER AND PROMISE OF AN IDYLLIC AFTER-LIFE WITH
REASONING AND TRUTHS AS FUNDAMENTAL AS THOSE UNDERLYING ALL RELIGIONS.

Great resource book for all road runners: beginners & eliteReview Date: 2004-02-06
himself, before retiring from competitive running, this
book is definitely worth checking out. It also helped that
elite runners like Bill Rodgers and Mary Decker Slaney also
had positive comments regarding this book.
This book is useful because it takes you from preparing
race, the race itself, and the post-race routines. It also
discusses injuries, and how to deal with them, and other
associated topics, like the psychological aspect of running,
and basics like weight training, crosstraining and nutrition.
If you're a beginner or even a veteran runner, you will
find useful advice, because there was a few things I picked
up in this book that I don't recall seeing in other running
books, and viceversa. If I had a complaint, is that it only
had a sample training schedule for someone training for their
first marathon, not including his own elite schedule when he
was running 120 miles or more weekly. This schedule was not
of any use to me, because my weekly training mileage already
exceeds the highest weekly mileage suggested in the book.
However, despite this, it is well worth the investment,
if you plan to enter a road race at some point in the future.
The topics are logically organized in a chronological fashion
that makes the book easy and simple to read. FYI, if you want
a sneak peek, here's a look at the Table of Contents, and you
can decide if this book is for you or you can take a pass and
look for another book that will fit your goals more suitably.

All in all, this book is fairly easy and fast to read. You
could probably finish the book in 4-5 hours, since there
are diagrams, charts, and other detailed information. It's
nearly 300 pages, but a person could probably polish it
off in a weekend or less if they devote a couple of hours
or so each day.

For those who THINK that they know everything about Turquoise...Review Date: 2007-03-28
"I have been a gem and mineral dealer for over ten years...and a rockhound for a lot longer than that...but this book taught me more in a single sitting than all my years in the buisiness and in the hobby.
I have dug, traded, bought and sold a whole bunch of "Turq"...natural, treated and "color-shot"...and this book instantly became one of my favorite references for the rest of my life.
If you are planning on investing in real American or Persian turquoise jewelry or stones...and it is an investment...then this book is a "Must Have!"
No sooner did I put this book down than I called up one of my suppliers and bought all of the Blue Gem and Turquoise Mountain stones they had left in stock...I am sure they are wondering what precipitated that call!"
My many thanks to Mr. Vigil for his labor of love, a compilation of articles from New Mexico Magazine...on everything from the Lowry "Turq" Museum...to the history and significance of the Cerrillos Mines...to the myth of "Old Pawn" jewelry...and much, much more!

Comprehensive, well-documented, passionateReview Date: 2008-07-19
Chapters devoted to environmental problems occupy the first 375 pages. These chapters are both easy to read and convincing, in part because many details and much documentation are presented in following sections. These following 218 pages contain appendices, a glossary, and detailed footnotes, easy to access. A valuable index follows. The extensive documentation alone makes the book of great value.
In the coming elections and for years to come, climate, energy, land use, and population will be crucial issues to consider. This book provides many insights into these issues. Whether or not readers will agree with all the points emphasized in the book, they are likely still to treasure it as a source of information impossible to find in any other compilation. Particularly, it should be read by all concerned with our west.
An ecological core textReview Date: 2008-07-19
It's easy today to become overwhelmed with the sheer scale of environmental problems. That's where this book really shines. Understanding what is wrong, through careful analysis, allows the reader to grapple with environmental ills and to see the way to environmental health. A healthy, vigorous environment really is possible. Sure it looks like a nightmare in the media but The American West at Risk shakes you out of any media-induced lethargy with a reasonable call to action.
Send this book to everyone you know---and given the fact that we don't have a lot of time left to reverse our environmental ills, you might want to put that at the top of your "to do" list.
Understanding Why Land Abuse Matters, and What To Do About ItReview Date: 2008-07-14
For many years, I have watched in disbelief the growth of urban sprawl, the mountains of garbage leaching chemicals into groundwater, and the dangerous accumulations of nuclear waste, to name just three insults we have inflicted upon the environment.
As I watched, I wondered: How could we let this happen? Why did it happen? Whose interests were served by these actions? This book provides the answers, in clear, simple language that is as useful to the scientist and student as it is to the lay reader. I felt helpless to respond appropriately to newspaper headlines issuing dire warnings about some new threat to the environment, partly out of ignorance, and partly out of a sense that surely the powers that be know what they are doing.
Thanks to "The American West at Risk", my ignorance has been dispelled, along with any complacency I might have harbored about the wisdom of continuing to carry on business as usual.
The book, written by scientists in an effort to reach a much wider public, takes a comprehensive look at manmade changes to the environment, including forestry management, food production, radioactive waste disposal, and oil and energy consumption. It does so with wisdom as well as wry humor. I now have a much better understanding of the deeper issues involved. This knowledge enables me to make positive changes with regard to protecting the environment while maintaining, and even enhancing, my own quality of life. By example, I hope to influence others to do the same. I heartily recommend it to any person, young or old, student, scientist, politician, and above all parent, who cares about the health and well being of ourselves and our planet.
A MUST read !Review Date: 2008-07-10
What hasn't hasn't been told IS told in this book ... and much more! My hats are off to the authors. This has to be one of the most powerful messages to mankind. These authors have done excellent research. Find out the facts and DO read this book!
