This is such an entertaining read as well as a look at a wide variety of decorating styles. I first became interested in this decorator (the only one I know by name) in Architectural Digest. These wonderful projects kept coming up in different months and so I started reading the articles that went with the pictures in the projects and discovered Bill Stubbs! He has a fresh eye for every client. He really looks and really listens. How unusual in today's self absorbed world.

This is an excellent Christian book. Each chapter (four chapters) depicts the special relationship between a child and the parent. The stories are wonderful and the realistic illustrations are beautiful. It is gender and ethnically sensitive. We initially read the book at bedtime and by the time our son was 2 1/2 - 3 years old, he had the words memorized! This book and "I Love My Mommy" are two of our family's favorites. They make excellent baby gifts.

In "I Want To Be Rich!...A Teenager's Modem to Money" Ms. Humbolt gives the basics for financial planning that all teenagers should follow if they are going to take charge of their financial futures, rather than having their financial futures take charge of them. It is all here, budgets, taxes, inflation, wages, jobs, a college education, investing, etc. This is a book that teens should buy as an investment in their futures. The book is well suited for giving to a teen by parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. The best time start a teen on the road to financial planning is now, not 20-30 years from now.

If you would have killed to be a fly on the wall during the inner workings of "Whamania," you absolutely must read "I'm Coming To Take You to Lunch A Fantastic Tale of Boys, Booze, And How Wham Were Sold To China." Simon Napier-Bell managed the group in their early days. They had signed a pretty bad record deal with Innervision for their debut album "Fantastic." "Fantastic" was a big hit in the UK spawning the hits, "Bad Boys," "Young Guns," "Wham Rap," and "Club Tropicana." Despite the hits, according to Napier-Bell the group were pretty broke. Despite not having hit the proverbial jackpot yet, Napier-Bell describes George Michael as being very business minded and suspicious at all times when it came to business. Although George was serious when it came to business, in the book George and Andrew are described as childhood friends who were so close it seemed they communicated in their own language with snickers and giggles tossed in. Napier-Bell assisted the group in their legal case which brought them into a deal straight with CBS. CBS signed them directly but it did not guarantee U.S. success as the label felt they were a UK act and Napier-Bell had to do a lot of convincing to sell them to the U.S., and he had to convince people that the poppy "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" was the right song.
Despite this closeness, as Napier-Bell was making business moves trying to make Wham a success in the United States, George Michael was already planning for his solo career and the waters would be tested with a single titled "Careless Whisper."
It's a really great book for the Wham! fan wanting to learn little details about the group that only a person on the inside would know. There is not much information about the groups personal life as far as relationships. There is a brief mention of Andrew dating one of the groups early backup singers and maybe a few other tidbits. What's amazing is that at the start of their international success George Michael wanted to end it all, according to the book.
As for the group conquering China and becoming the first group to play in the communist nation, Simon Napier-Bell was planning the China trip for the group before they were international stars and it finally happened after years of business meetings and trips to China.
It's a really great book and if you are a Wham! fan or someone interested in the music business you should check this book out.

This is a delightful anthology of fairy poems, with gorgeous illustrations that through clever cutting and engineering change as the reader turns the page. The poems are short to medium in length. Some are by well known authors, such as William Shakespeare and Laura Ingalls (never knew she wrote poems), and some more obscure authors, but all are well-written. This is a great bedtime book, that both children and adults will enjoy on a regular basis. Recommended for slightly older children (6 on up), since rough handling could damage the changing pages.

This book changed my life profoundly by altering my perception of myself and the people around me. The school system rewards kids who can remember things, but being able to regurgitate facts in an exam does not by any means guarantee a successful career or life. The kids who are artistic, mechanically talented, emotionally perceptive, or naturally intuitive, will be branded "losers" by the education system if they don't do well in exams, even though these skills are at _least_ as valuable as memory. The world would be a much better place if everyone read Kiyosaki's masterpiece.

An outstanding book on investing that stands out from the crowd

I've been on a quest for the last 3 years or so to educate myself on the area of investing (I have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and develop commercial software development for a living, but prior to a few years ago, I knew almost nothing about investing and finance). Over the last three years or so, I've read some 47 books in the area of investing and finance, and this book is one of the very best of the entire lot; it really stands out. Prof. Branch's book covers numerous topics that none of these other books cover, such as the nuts and bolts of bidding, the practical use of options and margin accounts, etc. It has a lot of extremely practical information that for some reason is not even mentioned or discussed in other books. It's really an outstanding book, and now I'm hoping that now I can put the knowledge I gained from the book to good use. [...]good this book is and how much it stood out from the other investing books I've read.

H.V. Morton joined the list of my favorite authors after just one reading of his "In Search of London." "In the Steps of the Master," Morton's 1934 record of "the thoughts and the experiences which come the way of a man as he travels through Palestine with the New Testament in his hands," has cemented his place on that list. "In the Steps..." is a wonderful piece of travel literature, and certainly repays reading, even given all that has changed in the nearly three-quarters of a century since it was first published.
I was fortunate to be able to make my first-ever trip to Israel last month, and so made a point to find and read "In the Steps..." before I left. I'm tempted to say now that things in the Holy Land may have changed more in the 73 years since this book was published than they had in the nearly two millennia since the time of Christ. Twenty-first century Jerusalem, in particular, is a very different place from the dusty settlement Morton describes. No one, I think would mistake "In the Steps..." as a particularly relevant guidebook today. And yet...
There are elements of the Holy Land that maybe never change, and most of the holy sites Morton visits -- certainly the more significant ones -- are still accessible to the modern pilgrim or curious tourist, and the shape of the land and the setting of Jerusalem or the Sea of Galilee remain as Morton describes them.
That, I think, is the real value of this book. Morton is an excellent travel writer, and anyone who appreciates well-crafted descriptive prose is in for a treat with (I'd venture, based on the two volumes of his I've read so far) most anything he's done. As I noted in my review of "In Search of London," Morton seems equally at home describing both the modern condition and the history of a place. Add to that, in this case, his facility with Scripture and his skill in pulling relevant details out of the Biblical narrative, and this becomes a great way to prepare for a trip and/or to assess what you've seen.
The several modern guidebooks about Jerusalem and Israel I read were good for details. But "In the Steps of the Master" was second only to the Bible itself in helping me prepare for the sense -- the spiritual impact -- of being in the land where Jesus walked.
