This book is a delight. It is expertly written. The photographs could win awards. It is a work of art, but even better, it provides a succinct education for both experienced and casual outdoors people. The point of this book is to save your life, AND to save the lives of both venomous and non-venomous animals which are feared by an uninformed public. The animals described in this book are valuable environmental factors, live outdoors but sometimes indoors. Read this book and you will be the richer for it.

Strongly recommended to hikers, campers, sightseers and vacationers in these areas

Expertly co-authored by Rich Wagner (Emergency Room Physician with a Ph. D in pharmacology and professional wildlife photographer) and Marie Wagner (an accomplished photographer and Registered Nurse), Tread Lightly: Venomous And Poisonous Animals Of The Southwest is a superbly illustrated and informative guide to identifying, avoiding, and surviving the venomous and poisonous wildlife in the American southwest. Tread Lightly provides the reader with an extensive understanding of each featured animal's range and habitat, physical characteristics, diet, behavior, reproduction and life cycles. Tread Lightly's thoroughly "reader friendly" text is enhanced with the inclusion of 55 full-color photographs of the animals to avoid (as well as harmless ones often encountered in the same region) for a more informed approach to identifying dangerous wildlife. An invaluable reference for avoidance of bites and an accurate aide of what to do in the case of an attack, Tread Lightly is very strongly recommended to hikers, campers, sightseers and vacationers in these areas inhabited by poisonous or venomous animals.

I did not have the slightest clue how to go about the buying a franchise, but this book changed all of that. It breaks everything down step by step, and explains all of the little things to you. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in opening a franchise. It is also useful in determining if you are not cut out to open a franchise. Hope this helps!

Embarking on a new journey, to a new place can be dangerous especially when Jennifer DeSpain travels to Black Hawk, Colorado with her family and friends. Packing and selling everything was easy to do but getting there would be twice the fun. Suddenly when the train comes to a complete stop and is robbed, 'The Kissing Bandit' gets both their money and a kiss.

When they arrive in a nearby town they have no money until an unusual person saves the day. They finally arrive in Black Hawk and Jennifer realizes they can't keep the building they bought so she has to sell it and rent one. Soon Jason gets everything they need to get the first edition of the Advertiser published. Jason has to deliver the papers by horse and when he's taking the second edition around he has an accident on his horse. Jason is stubborn and not easy to talk while he's bedridden.

While Jason is stuck in bed, two men enter Jennifer's life. One, Lance Rivers, is there for Jennifer's love and the other, the Preacher, is a comfort for her soul. Jennifer tries to work the stubborn press but Jason was the only one who really figured it out. Soon Jason comes around and meets Lance and thinks he's a crafty character. While Jennifer and the kids take a vacation, Jason gets the scoop of a lifetime and makes the newspaper a lot of money.

Things change and so do people. Jennifer's heart changes its mind a few times. Tragedy strikes yet again, challenging Jennifer and her family once again.

I loved this book! The beginning starts out kind've slow but soon the plot thickens. The plot slows down a bit but then towards the end of the book the authors finally let us know who the 'Kissing Bandit' really is.

...This is a history of wealth full of interesting people and details, not just a mere book about money. The book is full of mostly black and white photographs with a few color photos. Some of the photos included are ones of: Hetty the worlds richest woman, crown jewels of Iran,Irenee du Pont in 1957 with a pet iguana, a garden of clipped bushes in the shape on animals, Edith Kingdon, photos of Newport life, Mrs Vanderbilts ball in 1883 and many more. You are sure to find the rich stories just as fascinating as the incredible pictures.

I look at this review from a differnt perspective from most. Having been a student of Dr. Murray I have see the way that he lectures and is able to get his point across. This book shows the Western Front form the eye of the camera and has a very well writen timeline to go along with it. Unlike most books this one does not stop at the Battle of the Bulge and skip to the surrender of the Nazi leaders. He show the battles that occured all the up to the meeting of the Russians and the Anglo-American forces. This book also includes a very extensive index that makes searching for facts easy. As a student it is nice to see the highlights of the lectures put into print for everyone else. Well done. (Beefcake)

The best Photo-Essay on the war in NW Europe that I have see

G. E. Patrick Murray's latest historical effort is the best small volume of the war in Europe that I have seen. It is a concise reconstruction beginning with D-Day and ending with the Nazi surrender in early May, 1945. The writing, the photo selection and the situation maps are outstanding. The maps are the best I have seen in any history of WW II. If you are a military history buff or know someone who is, the addition of this book is a must.

This Vitamin Book is actually entertaining and humerous, while at sthe same time very informative. Besides that, it is also easy to understand. I would highly recomment it for anyone- even children 10 years and up will enjoy this one! It would be an excellent book for health class, except, it has one flaw- the binding doesn't hold together well - at least for my edition from 1980.

One of a kind

This book is a unique one in that it not only brings detailed scientific info on every vitamin, mineral, trace element and essential nutrient, it also brings at the end of each section a very useful and detailed table for each nutrient to show what are the best food sources for each item. For example, the table on vitamin C lists over 70 food sources for the vitamin, and gives the amounts (in mg / 100 gr food) of the vitamin in each source. The book brings the same type of table for each and every nutrient. These tables are excellent references as they list almost every food source for almost every nutrient. You cannot go wrong with such an ultimate source of data. I wish a newer, more updated version of this piece of art was available.

Web of Deceit, A tale of gripping suspense

Review Date: 2002-10-04
Jonni Rich proves herself to be a masterful storyteller. While weaving a tale of gripping suspense, Rich lovingly details the growing love between Sheriff Hal Bailey and widowed elementary teacher, Kylie Ward.
A seemingly senseless kidnapping draws us into scenes of breathtaking mountains and rugged terrain, but also into a story with a sense of fear that is so real, it will make you check the locks on your windows and doors.
Rich's finely crafted page turner will keep the reader's rapt attention until the last page is read. This is a quick read that does not disappoint.

It tells you why all sorts of inequalities and atrocities are rampant in the USA!

Review Date: 2008-05-18
The authors employs a Neo-Marxist perspective when answering the question what went wrong with America. The books is easy to read because it is not written full of terminology and academic prose, rather its done in a very straigth forward manner. The main argument is simple, namely that ever since Reagan became president in 1981 he initiated a frontal assault attack on the union, blacks and women. Basically ever since then the US has been run by big business in a ruthless manner so that the common person is exploited by the huge corporation that leave little choice for the average worker but to accept the worsening condition that the firms dish out to their helpless employees.

The book is ali very good at explaining why the US became more exploitative and aggressive not only at home but also in the rest of the world, this was especially the case after the Soviet Union disintegrated in late 1991.

A must-read to understand how the US really works!

This book was an eye-opener for me... to put it simply, horrifying. You may need to set aside preconceptions about Marxism to read it with an open mind, however.

Neale makes it quite clear that US policy is not dependent on who resides in the White House: a president will not be able to implement anything of which the major corporations disapprove. It is also very clear that the current president is very much on the side of corporations, and not the people he is supposed to govern. In fact, the inescapable conclusion I reached on having finished this book is that the US government is "by the corporations, for the corporations, of the corporations" - there is no concern whatsoever for the welfare of the working people.

None of this was clear to me before, I must confess. But now, I observe events with a very different perspective... a far less pleasant one.

You need to read this book if you want to know how the US is *really* being run - as well as many other countries, like the UK.

If you are suffering because your life has taken a turn that you did not expect and did not want, this book may be for you. It does not rush to put a band-aid on the wound, but gently, if intensely, teaches you how to face the reality of affliction. The prose style, although not easy, immerses you in a profound meditation on what it means to have to die as the person you once were, or thought you were, and become someone with a different life. I found it a challenging book to read, as it does not gloss over the fact of individual human pain, or take refuge in clichés about plenty more fish in the silver lining--but I finished it feeling stronger and more at peace.

A moving, wise book

This is a little book--a mere 41 pages. Yet after reading it, it seemed longer, as if the words had weight. It is among those books that address the mysterious moments around death. It is not about physical death, or even about grief over the loss of a loved one, though the book may certainly speak to those who are facing these things. It is about the death of the self, a process that may be initiated by many events, or no event at all. The tone is intimate, reading like a confidential letter. Reading it feels like finding a companion or guide in the midst of the impossibly dark wilderness of loss and change.

There are other books written about the dark night of the soul--books by counselors, rabbis and clergymen. These other books move into the abyss part-way, then quickly erect a safety net of consolation, healing and reassurance by offering prayer, faith, or therapeutic process as answers. This book is different. It moves more deeply into the abyss, and waits there in the confusion. And while it does eventually offer hope for emergence from the darkness, this feels real. I never got the sense that someone had trucked in the usual tents, mirrors, lights and clowns of theology to solve the problems of human loss and darkness.

I had the sense that the book was the result of a difficult journey. The voice is quiet, wise, and spare. As a reader, I felt the need to lean in to hear. I was touched by this.
