Fine writing about an uninteresting bunch of peopleReview Date: 2002-03-12
The author writes in an easy style as she tells the history of these families who are a large part of Texas history. I had not heard much about any of them. Texas folks probably would like to read about them, but I found them boring. I've given it five stars for her writing.
There are some interesting things about how retail stores have changed over the years and how customer service has deteriorated.
I think that only Texans would be interested in the parts about oil and gas companies.

Great starting place!Review Date: 2000-12-01
One word of advice - I have found origami paper the best suited paper for most of these projects. Regular silhouette paper is hard to come by and expensive. Construction paper is much too thick, hard to cut, and usually not acid-free.

The comic for non-comics readersReview Date: 2003-03-26
His stories have that lived-in feeling and his characters eminate from real life in a way that is all too rare in today's spandex-obseesed comics market. BAN is a particularly English story, sprinkled as it is the British slang and set in an English town reeling from the closing of a local manufacturing plant. The couple caught in the center of the story could be friends of yours, but Watson makes them distinct individuals with their own agendas and desires. This is a slice-of-life story with no urgent plotting or climatic ending. But that doesn't mean that BAN is without suspense or dramatic purpose, but it achieves its meaning and resonance thru character instead of external plot machinations, which is refreshing in a medium so often over-written.
And Andi's art is a true treasure, and the best part is he keeps getting better with each subsequent series. He's done other excellent work and has a new series coming out for ONI Press where he plans on putting his own unique twist on the world of superheroes.
BAN is the comic you can read and feel confident passing along to your non-comics reading friend. It's a great book by a great artist.

The Ceramic Design BookReview Date: 2001-08-26
Beatiful & imaginative artwork to inspireReview Date: 1999-09-06
The book is in full-color displaying one to three art pieces per page. Both handbuilt & wheel-thrown ceramics are shown. Captions provide the artist's name, date completed, & size as well as materials & techniques used.
Some of my favorite pieces includes a raku crackle jar & carved tree tiles. I love both the plate with waves & a teapot, and another with egrets on it. I also enjoyed a hand-built multi-colored teapot.
Several eclectic figures, a humorous bird sculpture, & a huge mosaic-style dragonfly screen also caught my eye. This is an indispensable reference tool packed with great ideas & a must-have book for any serious ceramic artist.
