Fine writing about an uninteresting bunch of people

A friend recommended this book as I've been reading a lot about Sarah, Duchess of York, and I was interested in Steve Wyatt's background.

The author writes in an easy style as she tells the history of these families who are a large part of Texas history. I had not heard much about any of them. Texas folks probably would like to read about them, but I found them boring. I've given it five stars for her writing.

There are some interesting things about how retail stores have changed over the years and how customer service has deteriorated.

I think that only Texans would be interested in the parts about oil and gas companies.

amazon came through for me by finding this out of print book, and it only took them 3 days to find it. i am an admirer of lynn wyatts and was a loyal customer to the sakowitz store. this book shows us inside two very powerful families and reminds us that money is thicker than blood. i recommend this book to anyone into the social scene. thanks amazon for finding this for me.

I first encountered this book in the library and checked it out so many times that I finally gave in and bought my own copy. I've made gifts using the instructions and patterns in this book, and found that the guidelines and levels of difficulty ratings are dead accurate. I've used this book as a springboard to go further into this craft.

One word of advice - I have found origami paper the best suited paper for most of these projects. Regular silhouette paper is hard to come by and expensive. Construction paper is much too thick, hard to cut, and usually not acid-free.

Neat little book, aroused my interest in a new to me craft

This is a very nice first book for someone who thinks they might be interested in paper cutting. It reviews different countries approaches to paper cutting. It contains patterns and directions for lots of different projects. Best of all, it has things simple enough to convince you to try the craft out while at the same time including enough complex, exciting projects to fire your imagination. The Polish style was particularly appealing to me and I've ordered 2 books on that type of cutting.

What an exciting and fun book to read. It offers a peek into the exclusive worlds of the rich, famous and fashionable during the peak of the party life years of the 70s and 80s. Not only does the story cover the lavish lifestyles, it covers the characters as real people that everyone can relate to on an emotional level. This book has a little of everything, drama, suspense, romance, steamy love scenes, action, mystery you name it. This was a great book to read on the beach on vacation.

A scintallating, realistic peak into an exculsive world.

As luscious as biting into a fresh peach... As decadent as pure milk chocolate...This is a witty and sinful look into the lifestyles of the rich and famous, a definite treat for anyone who enjoys Jackie Collins and her ilk. It conveys an absolute sense of realism that even Ms.Collins can't provide. Even if you think yourself worldly and sophisticated and unshockable, I guarantee without a doubt that this book will force you to cover your mouth in surprise. Oh, one word of advice: If you are IN ANY WAY prudish and sexsensitive, don't pick up this book. If you're like me and want to be royally entertained, dig in and enjoy. But don't say I didn't warn you!

I purchased this book beacause a friend recommended it to me after I read Alex Robinson's wonderful graphic novel _Box Office Poison_ I enjoyed BOP because the characters seemed very real to me unlike the characters found in Super Hero comic. Breakfast's story deals with a young couple who have been living together for quite awhile but who have never tied the knot. When they are finally ready to enter wedlock they both lose their jobs at a ceramic manufacturer. Whereas Rob becomes obsessed with the idea to get his old job back, Louise views being laid off as an opportunity to do something else with her life. Rob really does not take job hunting seriously and does little more than drink beer, lounge around the house, and play games. Louise goes back to school and takes a course in computers. the two characters drift apart from each other as the book goes on. Drawn in a deceptivelt simple style, Watson's art is very moving with bold sparse lines.

The comic for non-comics readers

For fans of graphic novels, comics and sequential art, Andi Watson is the real-deal. His use of line, texture and brushstrokes evokes a masterly touch in a medium frequently given to assembly line product and connect-the-dot plotting. One look thru his great graphic novel, "Breakfast After Noon" will make you a fan of his art. Luckily, those that buy the book and read it will also become a fan of Andi the writer.

His stories have that lived-in feeling and his characters eminate from real life in a way that is all too rare in today's spandex-obseesed comics market. BAN is a particularly English story, sprinkled as it is the British slang and set in an English town reeling from the closing of a local manufacturing plant. The couple caught in the center of the story could be friends of yours, but Watson makes them distinct individuals with their own agendas and desires. This is a slice-of-life story with no urgent plotting or climatic ending. But that doesn't mean that BAN is without suspense or dramatic purpose, but it achieves its meaning and resonance thru character instead of external plot machinations, which is refreshing in a medium so often over-written.

And Andi's art is a true treasure, and the best part is he keeps getting better with each subsequent series. He's done other excellent work and has a new series coming out for ONI Press where he plans on putting his own unique twist on the world of superheroes.

BAN is the comic you can read and feel confident passing along to your non-comics reading friend. It's a great book by a great artist.

Using science to make decisions for business
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-18
Nothing is done in business these days without using research to make decisions. The days of simply using hunches and intuition are just about about gone. It really is a jungle out there, and research is one of your rifles. This book shows you why research is important, how to do it, and how to apply what you've found. Research, if done correctly, can help you minimize the variables which can destroy you, or accentuate the factors which can help you meet your mission objectives. No matter what size your business is, you can apply these principles to increase your chances of success. The book is very expensive, but so is failure. Pardon the cliche', but an ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure.

This book is powerfully written, compellingly illustrated and biblically true to the spirit of Jesus. The thesis is that it is the business of the church, as it was the business of Jesus, to care about the poor and to preach the gospel to the lost. I think you will enjoy the book and be blessed by it.

I am very impressed with David's insight and writing abilities. What he has said needs to be said and he did an outstanding job in doing so. This book is highly recommended. In fact, imagine me standing on one of the pews David talks about and shouting to the congregation "READ THIS!"

Can I play, Too? is an inspiring book. It deals with the disability of a young boy named Teddy. As a teacher of the Handicapped, I chose to read this book with my 5th grade students. This book had an impact on us all! My students have learned that it is okay to be different and that acceptance is important. We also had the opportunity to meet the author. K. Scott Conover has made an impact in the lives of several children with this sensitive book. I am looking forward to the publishing of his second book!

A great inspiriational book for 4th to 5th graders.

This book is an inspiring story of a child's comeback over a leg injury and contains many characters. It is interesting to read, and would be great for any 3rd to 6th grader. As an added side note, most of the proceeds go to the K. Scott Conover foundation, a foundation designed to help children overcome crippling diseases. Buy it and you won't be dissapointed.

Basically the subtitle says it all. This beautifully illustrated book consists entirely of photos and captions. But, oh my god, what an incredible collection of mind-expanding work. Each piece is perfectly crafted, fresh, and often whimsical. My eyes just got bigger and bigger with amazement as I flipped through this book for the first time. Covering the full range of the best in modern ceramics, this book has hundreds of full color photos to inspire beginners and professionals alike. There are large architectural pieces, thrown pots, handbuilt functional and decorative wares, low fired, pit fired, high fired and raku wonders - something to delight everyone.

Beatiful & imaginative artwork to inspire

This is a beautiful book with many unique & imaginative ceramic designs that will provide inspiration for ceramic artists of all levels. It also makes a great gift or a delightful coffee table book for any art lover

The book is in full-color displaying one to three art pieces per page. Both handbuilt & wheel-thrown ceramics are shown. Captions provide the artist's name, date completed, & size as well as materials & techniques used.

Some of my favorite pieces includes a raku crackle jar & carved tree tiles. I love both the plate with waves & a teapot, and another with egrets on it. I also enjoyed a hand-built multi-colored teapot.

Several eclectic figures, a humorous bird sculpture, & a huge mosaic-style dragonfly screen also caught my eye. This is an indispensable reference tool packed with great ideas & a must-have book for any serious ceramic artist.

A terrific memoir of a female cop, bodyguard, undercover operative, investigator, security consultant and imperfect human being. Ms. Davis is an amazing woman with tons of courage. She shares fascinating, moving and funny experiences from her diverse career and her life. A must-read for women in law enforcement or security. Should be assigned reading for our male colleagues, too. An enjoyable read for anyone. It's a very human story that doesn't get bogged down in professional details that would bore readers outside the field.

A riveting and unforgettable true-life memoir

The Circuit is the true story of Jacquieline Davis, a young female London police officer who dared to enter the dangerous realm of covert operations. Jacquieline's duties would lead her to infiltrate a Columbian cocaine cartel, rescue hostages from Asia and the Middle East, protect a royal family, and more. A riveting and unforgettable true-life memoir, The Circuit is a welcome contribution to Criminology Studies reference collections, as well as being of intense interest to non-specialist general readers with an interest in how police approach such global problems as organized crime and political terrorism.
