This book is so user-friendly that even my kids found the layout and advice attractive! I was reading its insights and had it by my bedside table. Even though it would have been easy to read the whole thing in one sitting, I was deliberately pacing it so that I would properly digest the points. Meanwhile, I found my eleven year old daughter browsing through it and she was even taking notes! I asked her what the notes were for and she said, "there are a lot of really meaningful phrases in here! I want to remember them. Maybe I'll make a poster to hang in my room. Listen to this one, Mommy..." and she went on to quote from her notes. My other kids also found themselves attracted to the cartoon-like layout and were seen reading it.
If the goal is to improve our speech, the younger we start, the better! I am thrilled to have a book with this goal in the house that even motivates my kids!

when I saw Goldie Hawn on TV talking about this book I went out and got a copy.As a retired executive from a prominent software company the battle with the rumor mill was demoralizing and unnecessarily time consuming. If I had the book at that time I would have purchased one for each employee and make it compulsory reading. The book deals with basic human emotions, but evokes many thoughts about our humanity.

A self-help book that's really helpful

If everyone read and followed the principles in this book, the world would be a much more pleasant place. The ideas are as old as the Golden Rule, but the anecdotes and illustrations make this a lively and practical guide. Read it and you'll find yourself thinking about it during everyday conversations -- it really works!

Outstanding! I couldn't stop reading it from cover to cover, just for the pleasure of discovering what information and solutions would come next. I tried the short yoga routine when I had a major tension headache building and had complete and immediate relief, plus my headache didn't reappear hours later as it can when taking pills. The photos took me step by step with excellent guidelines. Now I keep the book handy, and have put away my bottle of Advil. I'm thrilled I don't have to be dependant on pills!
This book is very well written, and has lots of photos so it's easy to follow and understand. Here is a great blend of traditional medicine and easy yoga postures and techniques to prevent and relieve headaches. The medical information is thorough, yet nicely written for the layperson. The medical treatments transition beautifully to prevention and remedies through yoga. The postures are fabulous, too, just for relieving neck and shoulder tension and feeling more calm. I'm sold! A longer, daily routine is also offered for people who suffer from migraines and frequent headaches.
Now I don't have to mask symptoms by taking pills, and can go right to the source of the problem -- in 5-10 minutes. A treasure of a book!

I am a frequent sufferer of both tension-type headaches and migraines, and I also practice yoga several times per week. This attractive little square book provides an easy to follow yoga stretching routine that is appropriate for anyone, even those with no prior exposure to yoga.

The book begins with some basic information about headaches, including distinguishing between tension-type headaches and migraines and reviewing common causes of headaches. This material is presented in a simple, easy-to-read format, although it will probably already be familiar to those who have done prior research into their headaches. The authors then move into an overview of Ananda yoga, a copyrighted style which basically combines traditional yoga postures with positive affirmations.

Next come the yoga routines themselves. The book presents several options, including the Main Routine, a 20-minute daily practice to help prevent headaches, and the Intervention Routine, which can be used to decrease the discomfort from certain types of headaches in progress. The Main Routine consists of 15 total exercises which vary from standing in correct posture, yogic breathing, arm stretches, and neck rolls to seated and lying stretches. Exercises 9-15 include a simple affirmation such as 'I relax from outer involvement into my inner haven of peace.' The only prop required is a blanket; a strap is optional for some of the poses. An additional chapter suggests more challenging postures such as ear-closing pose, shoulderstand, and plow for once you are ready to expand your daily practice. The Intervention Routine includes 5 exercises from the Main routine plus yogic breath and relaxation postures. Finally, the book ends with a review of other options for headache treatments, including medications.

These simple stretching routines will definitely help you to release tension from your muscles while relaxing your body and mind. Since I already practice yoga, I don't plan to do the entire routine daily, but I'm confident that adding these simple postures will have a positive impact on my headaches. This is an excellent resource for those who prefer a more wellness-focused model to traditional medical treatment.

I found this book both informative and enjoyable to read. The background information on headaches is presented in a thorough but easy to understand way. The techniques for headache management and prevention are both practical and fun. I have made the yoga techniques a part of my daily routine with good result--I look forward to doing them! I would recommend this book to any one who would like to learn to better manage their own stress, and get results right away.

Plenty of books advocate saving early for retirement - but few explain so clearly as YOUR ROADMAP TO RETIREMENT RICHES (SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORK IN YOUR OLD AGE). It covers much more than just understanding options and formulas: it reviews all aspects of retirement approaches, from choosing the best investment advisor and planning estates to beating inflation, locating good model portfolios, and more. An excellent, clearly-written guide beginners, especially, will find most approachable.

Great advice, succinctly delivered

Written by a practicing security analyst and portfolio manager for over 20 years, Your Roadmap To Retirement Riches (So You Don't Have To Work In Your Old Age) is a no-nonsense investment guide to preparing for the future. Chapters address such basic fundamentals as the virtue of saving and the hidden tax of inflation, then go on to give a brief look at insurance and estate planning, warnings of unpredictable markets, samples of five model portfolios, interest-bearing securities, information about exchange-traded funds and mutual funds, and much more. As the baby boomer generation ages and social security is increasingly threatened, Your Roadmap To Retirement Riches is a "must-read" for anyone expecting to enjoy leisure during their golden years.

Roadmap is a great primer for laying out your route to a comfortable retirement. It explains why you need to do this and how to figure what you will need. Its a fast read for those that have not yet gotten started on saving for this event. The emphasis is on sound investment not how to get rich quick. The book lays out the basic principles of financial planning, for developing a portfolio on your own, how to moderate risk for the long run, and how and where to seek and get aid. Roadmap does not profess to be an all you need book but helps the reader find additional sound advise and help. A must read for those in their 20's to 50's that have not gotten started in this essential process and also for those that are on their way but need a good conservative perspective.

Absoulte must reading for anyone who isn't a professional money manager, particularly for those of you in your 50s!! Two thumbs up for Your Roadmap To Retirement Riches.

Great patterns and lovely designs make this book a must-have for knitters who want to do something more intricate than basic, fast knit sweaters. Ms. Goodwin's down-to-earth, don't be afraid attitude is refreshing but I feel you must read and understand her notes before you start knitting. She talks in a knitter to knitter style and I believe she expects her readers to know the basics. The patterns aren't terribly difficult but do require patience and a personality that enjoys a challenge. You WILL be rewarded.

After 3 days agonizing over the syntax in this book--(I'm a visual handicraft learner)-- I saw the light. And.. because I kept knitting and knitting, I saw that I was actually doing it right.

There are a number of confusions here-- how many markers to use; what happens next; etc. The writer knows how to knit so well, she assumes we all will just "get it". Even assumes we know circular knitting comes out the same as stockinette stitch, even tho' we don't purl any rows. I didn't know!

I didn't just "get it"-- I even wrote Mary an email and am waiting for help.

All in all, when one is writing so-called simple knitting patterns, the author must always put herself in the shoes of the most thick-headed of learners. Language has to be considered carefully, and at times, it isn't here.

Now that I "get it", I like the book. But, it was frustrating at first...And.. I have more than a basic knowledge of knitting-- it's just that I have never knitted a seamless garment before.

I hope when this book is revised, that the author takes more time with her explanatory language-- and gives these patterns to other knitters besides the local knitshop denizens to peruse. The simplistic learners are out there-- and we appreciate clear, concise language. Yes.. we have to read "next, you do this-- and it will look like this; and then next, you do this..." so on and so forth. That's an easy pattern.

But.. I've just ordered this authors children's sweater book.. So.. there is a light at the end of the tunnel. :-) I eventually figured it out. And.. I do like this book. I realize that it really is the most simple of seamless patterns-- compared to the others I've seen.

This is one of the most thoroughly researched film biographies I have ever seen. This book relates the life story of Tom Mix, the silent movie star who dominated Hollywood in its early years. Jensen has provided extensive documentation of all the information contained in this work, including material from original sources stored in the back rooms of libraries and museums. Due to the research and reliance on original documents (personal letters, court records, etc.), there is a considerable amount of material contained in this book that has never been published before now. This book is a true tribute to Tom Mix, and will serve as the definitive biography of his life and career for many years to come.

There is so much detail in the book, but you don't get bogged down in it. It's just a great book.

This biography of Thomas W. Lamont, J.P. Morgan's Chief Executive is a thoroughly researched account of the legendary financier during the first half of the twentieth century, when the powerful banking firm was at the pinnacle of international finance. The author, his grandson has written this lively biography based on his independent research and his personal collection of family papers and Thomas Lamont's letters. The reader will become acquainted with the economic and political history of the period, the many crucial world events that were transpiring, as well as a full roster of leaders such as Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Wilson and Hoover, who all sought advice from Lamont. Along with all of the above, the author portrays the luxurious lifestyle of his grandfather, such as commuting from his home to Wall Street by yacht. There are social vignettes such as a house party at Lady Astor's Cliveden, as well as a Lamont soiree during which a Federal judge broke the nose of Walter Lippman's charming wife. The reader is also given glimpses of such luminaries as Charles Lindbergh and H.G. Wells, who were among Thomas Lamont's close friends. John Kenneth Galbraith praised this volume and characterized it as "affectionate and well researched...We are in debt to Edward Lamont for this literate and thoroughly interesting biography." Book List and Publishers Weekly contributed highly enthusiastic reviews, and recommended it for those interested in history, banking and foreign affairs. Written in a brisk and informative style, Lamont interjects his wit at just the right places so as to present a very balanced, straight forward, and informative piece of work.

The Ambassador From Wall Street is a fasciating tale of one of the great financial leaders of the 20th Century. As a retired New York banker who started work in 1950 and who held some quite responsible positions, I found the book contained messages for bankers that are as true today as they were in the life of Mr. Lamont, particularly on how to avoid undue risk and how to manage the inevitable messes when they occur. The book seems to have been well researched by the arthor, a Grandson of the subject, and takes us through the many economic and financial developments of the first half of the twentieth century. Its scope allows the reader to have a broad view of the financial world, a useful benefit in this age of globalization. I particularly recommend the book to young students of finance. The lessons learned will enhance their careers.

What a great book! If you've had the pleasure of living or spending any time in Japan, you'll love these stories of the ever-changing city of Tokyo, as told by Rick Roa, a successful if unorthodox, American entrepreneur. He really gets to the heart of what makes this city so irresistable to so many Americans and Europeans. Even if you have no interest in Japan, pick up a copy of the book for its inspirational value. The story of a poor kid from Brooklyn surviving the streets on his own and then going on to see the world and finally making it big. And from the anecdotes in the book, seems like he had a great time along the way! And thanks to the fine writing of Tony Teora, I feel like I've spent a few hours drinking beer with a good friend and listening to the stories of a great man. I didn't want it to end.

Rick Roa was in the right place (Tokyo) at the right time (1970s, 1980s, 1990s). There weren't so many foreigners in Tokyo then, and it was like the Wild West for entrepreneurs. Now those pioneering days are over and the corporations have taken over most of the exciting business opportunities and have driven away the mavericks, the cowboys, and the samurai. But if you let the odds squash your dreams, then you might as well crawl back into the womb!

It's a little hard to see how Mary Daly can even be mentioned with a great genius like Virginia Woolf, especially when one considers that Woolf was able to make a new rhetoric apart from patriarchal language, while "theorists" like Daly have only succeeded in questioning contemporary discourse. Nevertheless, a worthwhile book that, when dealing with a major figure like Virginia Woolf, deserves to be read.
