Most answers to complex problems are incredibly simply. I think we know this, but we get our heads buried in the sand pretty quickly. Bill Rich's book is like a gentle nudge from a friendly sheepdog, helping us find our way back.
The author's love of 'just being here' is contagious. Whether Catholic, Christian or Human, this book will lift some of the weight.
This is NOT a self help book. It does NOT contain directions. It does NOT require the purchase of any kind of clothing or equipment. It's good words, well written. The worst that could happen is you might feel better.

The reflections in this book are extremely meaningful! I felt the book was very easy to read and helped me understand Jesus in a way I had never experienced. Each chapter has a special theme ( ex. hope, forgiveness, love, fear, suffering, etc.) and follows the church year, beginning with Advent. However, I read the chapters based on the theme I felt I needed at the time. This is an excellent book to read for daily devotionals and prayers. I've given several copies of Scattered Raindrops to friends and they love it!!!

Deacon Rich's book is not the kind of book I normally read. In fact, I am not even a Christian. However, when we were sent a copy as a gift, I sat back with a cup of coffee and Scattered Raindrops and started to flip through it. Three hours later I finished "flipping through." Rich writes with wisdom, intelligence, and humor--and he writes about topics that effect everyone, whatever our beliefs. Deacon Rich's prose is clear, concise, and full of insight into the human condition. His message is full of love and hope and faith; reading this book reminded me what it means to be alive and why we need to appreciate each moment we have.

Child/adolescent psychologist Stephan M. Silverman, Ph.D. and educational advocate for gifted children with learning difficulties Rich Weinfeld pool their talents in School Success for Kids with Asperger's Syndrome, a no-nonsense guide for parents and teachers to helping children with Asperger's Syndrome, or AS (a mild form of autism spectrum disorder that affects language and social skills) rise to their full potential. Chapters discuss how to recognize and diagnose AS, effective classroom strategies, ideal practices for parenting with AS, preparing young people with AS for college, work, and independent living, and much more. "Children with AS frequently feel affection but do not know how to appropriately express those feelings. They need to have guidelines as to who is an appropriate recipient of affection and under which conditions. They need to know when someone is a friend or an acquaintance and when intimacy is appropriate." A reader-friendly, tell-it-like-it-is guide enthusiastically recommended for parents, caretakers and educators responsible for young people with AS.

As a clinician with patients who have children diagnosed with Asperger's, I found this book a wealth of information in both diagnosis and treatment. The book emphasizes a strength based approach, with accomodations made to allow these kids to add their special talents to the learning environment of their "normal" peers. I highly recommend it to other clinicians, teachers, parents and friends of these special kids.

Stephen Silverman and Rich Weinfeld combine their expertise in the fields of psychology and special education to create a valuable resource for parents, teachers, and clinicians who service kids with Asperger's Syndrome. Their book presents complex information in a straightforward, reader friendly manner that highlights every aspect of AS. Beginning with an interesting historical overview of the syndrome, the authors go on to describe diagnostic characteristics as well as outline in detail specific strategies that have proven to be successful in dealing with AS kids in the classroom. As a teacher and administrator in the field of special education for over thirty years, I found these suggestions to be extremely practical tools that make sense and would be a tremendous support to a teacher working with kids who have Asperger's Syndrome. The authors meticulously define state of the art best practices for teachers and parents and particulary highlight a strengths based approach. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has the pleasure of working with children who have AS.

Rich Whiteside is a fellow UCLA family member so I do hold some bais. He is a rare talent and a quiet professional who focuses on results rather than ego. He is a man of character. "The Screenwriting Life" is an unflinching look into the reality of what it is like to trade daydreams for dollars. Being a working screenwriter in Hollywood I thought I had a little bit of insight. This book cleared up the fog and sharpened my approach. If you ever get a chance to meet the author, first thank him for serving our fine United States in his former career as one of our country's elite. Secondly, thank him for making you a better screenwriter through awarness and truth. I surely will.

I met Rich Whiteside (and Paul Castro and Lew Hunder) when I was in the Screenwriting program at UCLA. Since I knew Rich, I bought the book as soon as it hit the shelves. Then life got hectic, I put it on my bookshelf and forgot about it. I recently took it down and started reading it and it's completely blown me away! It's the most honest book about the industry I have ever read. I wish I had read this book when I first bought it, as it would have made my life as a screenwriter a heck of a lot easier! It's brilliant and I highly recommend you not only buy a copy, but READ it from cover to cover. And keep it around to re-read later. Rich, this is brilliant work, my friend. Kudos to you!

This book doesn't get bogged down in the authors own ideas about careers. Instead, he offers insightful interviews with many people in the different screenwriting fields. Sitcoms, longform, and feature writing interviews convey the life and experiences of their respective areas and helps the reader decide if that is truly an area they want to enter. All the interviews suggests what avenues may give new writers the best start into that area.

"The Screenwriting Life" is an excellent, well-organized primer that dispels many romantic notions of what it takes to achieve success as a screenwriter in Hollywood today. Rich's insightful interviews with some of the leading creative forces in the entertainment industry reinforce the point that good writing alone is not enough. "The Screenwriting Life" is an indispensable guide to the political realities of Hollywood.

Angel On Board, Second Edition

Written by the same person who gave you Angel On Board, Profitable Publishing and more, EJ and her new partner John give you idea after idea after idea as to how to create passive income.

The plan they devise for you to guage your success is easy to follow and actually very fun to figure out! I know my "Financial Freedom Goal" and I'd never thought of it before. Now, I think about it daily and am making progress toward it!

The resources, ideas, examples and actual implementation instructions are useful, informative, current and quite surprisingly - entertaining.

This is a fun book - that gives us all a great new perspective on our future - our financially independent future!

If you've ever needed to earn some extra money but didn't know how you were gonna do it - GET THIS BOOK! The heck with financial freedom, it is life changing just to have a few extra hundred a month come in. I'll build to the financial freedom model within the next year or so, because it is so doable!

The book helps you brainstorm your own genius then shows you how to apply it on the net and in the real world. It helps you tally your assets, things you used to take for granted, now can help make you money - every month - consistently.

It was easy to read and the ideas were easy to get and the implementation and paychecks virtually immediate!

Everyone comes away with money making ideas - but no two could possibly be the same...

This book is intended to get your creative thinking going. The ideas spawned from the exercises and stories inside these pages are all so uniquely your own, that there is no way two people could have the same experience reading it, not even husbands and wives.

The deal is, it is simple to create passive income streams. EJ & John told you their stories, tactics and put the plan right there in front of you on these pages. Because the ideas are simple, many are actually very 'small,' yet yield big rewards. So, you can do a bunch of them and add it all up to get to your financial freedom goal!

If you're struggling right now, you owe it to yourself to get this. You'll free yourself from the struggle and find your way all the way to freedom!

No longer at the mercy of the legislators...

As a state employee, I have to wait for the legislature every year to vote whether or not we state employees 'deserve' a raise. At best, it is a cost of living raise maybe 3-4%. We cheered when we received it, but usually, it still only amounted to maybe $50 more a paycheck. Frankly, the system for government employees stinks. A stereotype also exists for us that we are unmotivated, because of situations I describe above, but our jobs are pretty secure and in this economy, that means alot.

But the stuff in this book... I can do without risk of my job - in fact, it just might get me a promotion if I do right! I can make more than what the legislature 'blesses' us with each year with almost every single idea in the book. There are so many; not just ideas, plans and resources too. Whether or not your goal is financial freedom, this book can help you make more money in your current situation.

With the economy in it's current mess, this book is must-read for all! If you don't need it, someone you know does!!!

I recommend it highly!

This book has everything!!!

First, it explains the goal - become financially free in the most straightforward way I've ever seen it explained. Then it works you through a boatload of ideas, giving real-world examples for each, then it gives you resources, helps you establish your goals, and lays out the plan you'll need to have in place to get there. It's a complete roadmap to financial freedom.

Again, I say WOW!

Wow! I just finished this book & am amazed at the example Joe Massengale has lived by. If you're looking for a book on parenting & how to live your life, this is it. Character, determination, focus, love, confidence... what else can you say. Joe Massengale leads his life by example & instills all of the above qualities in his children.

I would encourage any parent or anyone looking for a blueprint on how they should live their life to the fullest to read this book.

As the father of two sons, ages 14 and 11, I found the book to be very inspiring, uplifting, and valuable. The authors deliver beautifully on the title's promise to tell a powerful story about how a father succeeded in raising six successful sons and the back cover's promise to articulate the ways in which the qualities of confidence, fortitude, pride, persistence, fearlessness, and focus are important for a successful life. But beyond that, the way the book is organized and the excellent writing gave the experience a depth of richness that was much greater than I anticipated and more pleasure than I could have felt justified in expecting.

Joe Massengale is a remarkable man who's led an extraordinary rags-to-riches-to-rags-back-to-riches life...from fearing for his own poverty-stricken life in the days of lynchings, to working his way up to owning his own race horses in Hollywood. His biography alone would make an inspiring, thoroughly readable book -- but having it woven through such valuable lessons, and memorable object lessons, all in service of passing on hard-earned down-to-earth wisdom on something as crucial as character-development...well it makes this book all the more important. And how refreshing to have a "good for you" book that's so well-written! David Clow not only writes elegantly, but knows how to get out of Joe Massengale's way to let his subject's own distinctive voice come through clearly. That Joe Massengale happens to be African-American makes me wonder why Oprah Winfrey hasn't devoted an hour to him yet, but let me hasten to add - his lessons are UNIVERSALLY relevant. You do NOT have to be any particular color to "get" this wisdom, nor to need it. Turning children into responsible adults is the hardest and most important job in the world, no matter your color, age, station in life...or gender. Yes, I'm saying even moms can get something valuable from ths book. So could kids, single adults, you name it - anyone with an interest in the being, and shaping, productive, respected members of society. Only perfect people need not learn these lessons, and if you think you're perfect you need this book more than anyone! Need I mention, as I glance at the calendar, that this would make a HECK of a Father's Day gift?

A Must Read for Every Parent

Six Lessons for Six Sons, written by Joe Massengale and David Clow provides a enlightening approach to providing your children with important gifts to guide them through life. The authors have identified the gifts that help individuals believe in themselves and develop the strength to deal with the inevitable setbacks we all experience, and rise above them. This book is extremely well written, unpretentious, and presents, in a simple straight forward way, six qualities that lay down a foundation for living a rich, admirable and principled life. Massengale and Clow do an outstanding job of presenting these lessons in a way that should inspire fathers (and mothers too) to look at the art of raising children to be productive members of society. It stands head and shoulders above all of the self help books on the market today.

The six lessons are ones that I wish I had in raising my own sons.

Normally when I hear the expression "fiscal responsibility" I think "money lenders" or some other pejorative word. But Mr. Traylor turns my head, so to speak. He has written an iconoclastic book that defies hyperbole. In short, there is no exaggeration in this book. It is full of solid advice than transcends money or budgets. It is practical, lifechanging advice sweetened by Mr. Traylor's abiility to take the mundane and to make it holy. He invites his reader to embrace a world view that glorifies his God and brings pneumatic and mental edification to its participant. The reader does not want to miss this treasure!

True Riches is not only a book, it is a Biblical masterpiece! After reading it, my heart and mind was entirely illuminated because of the clear exposition of Luke 16, from which the book holds its title. Bro. Ray Traylor so beautifully portrays the real essence of God's value system (people). He captures the reader by stirring up the motivation within to "shift" his or her financial priorities to impact the Kingdom of God by using wealth to reach people, an eternal investment that will never depreciate. This book is a MUST. I assure you, it will encourage you to view wealth from the biblical perspective that God the Father intends. You will never be the same!

This book is a must for all Christians to read. True Riches is a Biblical guide to not only building wealth and maintaining it, but a guide that also scripturally shows how God uses the wealth he gives us (no matter how great or small the amount). This book thoroughly explains how all money is God's, not just the 10% tithe, and how he can use the money He gives us to not only bless our personal lives for our obediance in stewardship, but more importantly how he uses His money through us to futher His ministry here on earth. Mr. Traylor's details and descriptions (based on scripture) leaves no doubt that all money is God's and He truly wants us to submit our finances to Him, along with all of our being. The messages of obediance, good stewardship, and God's rewards rings loudly among the pages. Following God's plan for our finances is definitely the path to "True Riches" in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is a must have for any Christian!!

I had been looking for an authoritative answer to the question; what are "True Riches"? Ray Traylor's book gave me the Biblically based foundation I was looking for. All of Ray's statements are supported by scripture from God's Word. Wealth comes from God and should be used to further His purposes. We are all given unique talents that God can use to bless us financially, so we can bless others. Ray points the way to developing a family based business that can be used to fulfill God's purposes. The "secret" to true riches is in God's Holy Word!

From The Back Cover-

Vegetariana is a spirited celebration of vegetarianism - a unique compendium of imaginative recipes, witty illustrations, and literary anecdotes on the delights of vegetarian cookery. Originally published in 1984, Vegetariana is now available in a completely revised and updated edition, featuring more than 80 brand-new recipes.

Nava Atlas, whose illustrations embellish the book has put together an international collection of recipes from soups to desserts, including Chili Lentil and Rice Pilaf, Scallioned Potato Bake, Zucchini Pancakes Parmesan, Sun-Dried Tomato Focaccia Bread, and Fresh Peach Crumb Cake. Vegetariana is an essential cookbook for anyone who cares about healthful and delicious food.

From The Introduction-

My maiin intent when first producing the book was to put vegetarian cooking in a lighthearted context, so that the broad range of delicious foods and flavors would be showcased in an inviting, nonintimidating way. Why a new edition? Since the book was first written, many fascinating and healthful foods have become better known or more widely available. I wanted to include new recipes for foods such as tempeh, quinoa, seltan and others. More tofu recipes are here, too, since this versatile food is practically a supermarket staple and I'm constantly asked for ideas for its use.

Some of the original recipes have been slightly defatted in accordance with the current trend of keeping fat content low. While there are still some rich, special-occasion dishes here, most of the recipes will serve a basic, everyday fare for anyone who wants tasty and uncomplicated meals that are healthful as well as fun to make and eat. Nondairy soy alternatives have been suggested in many of the recipes. Those who use no dairy, as well as vegans, will find a wider range of recipes that they can use in this edition. Above all, this new edition of Vegetariana is the continuation of the celebration of vegetarianism and the vegetarian cookery that so many are embracing as a healthful and satisfying way of life.

This was my first vegetarian cookbook, and it was a great introduction to this style of cooking. Nava Atlas is a funny, talented writer and the recipes work. Not too complicated, but not bare bones either, I will always have a copy of this book around.

What fun, what vision, what a great shipwreck story. I've read plenty of sea adventures, but never one that merged grit, adrenaline, and fear with a lyrical excursion worthy of Calvino or Marquez. And that's one part of one essay. Like a travelogue shot by a feature filmmaker, this beautifully wrought book offers sharp, compelling storytelling images set in luminous portraits of the natural world.

"If one must travel, one should do it with the eyes of a child, the mind of an ecologist, the heart of a pagan, and the words of a poet. Astonishingly, Emily Hiestand has all of that." --Kirkpatrick Sale, author,The Conquest of Paradise

"The prose quivers with grace and wit as it charges the large questions with luminous details." --Bonnie Costello, author, Marianne Moore:Imaginary Possessions

"In these fresh accounts of far-flung locations, Hiestand keeps returning us to the profound questions not of exploration, but of home. That is the book's great discovery: we're in this together, wherever we are." --Patricia Hampl, author,A Romantic Education

"The most exciting travel writing I have read in years.... These pieces are, in the best sense, world-views... The poetic eye is their greatest strength; or rather, a poetic sensibility and intuitive perceptiveness combined with a remarkably cultivated and civilized intellect... The style seems to be an expression of good manners, good intellectual manners. She confronts head on some of the basic issues of writing and thinking about nature." --Robert Finch, ed.,The Norton Book of Nature Writing

"Her range of references is wide and unexpected, and she is a wonderful observer... [W]hat holds the book together is a wry and elegant dexterity of intelligence, a sense of humor that engages both the solemn revelations and the undignified exasperations of travel with precision and elan." --Franklin Burroughs, author, Billy Watson's Croker Sack

"Hiestand journeys in this altogether terrific book to the far reaches of the human heart as well as to places for which there are maps. Her language is special. It is also, in the best sense of the word, 'poetic': precise, intense, compacted, and full of surprises." --Geoffrey Stokes, The Boston Globe

"Categorizing The Very Rich Hours as a travel book seems at first an underestimation of its scope, but this tour de force of personal narrative is indeed an odyssey of sorts, a rich and rewarding literary journey told with the voice of a poet and the heart of a consummate observor...Hiestand has crafted a complex, yet elegant, naturalist approach to travel...This is a rare book, one that is astonishing fluid and keenly observant." --Fiona Luis, The Boson Globe

"Here is a dazzlingly different kind of travel book. And it's just in time too, for a genre that was in danger of running to ground in the old ruts.... Deftly, Hiestand moves from specific physical observations to her big philosophical question: 'What is right habitation?' As she travels, she looks closely at our world and thinks hard about why and how we are to live in it. It is a rare experience." --Luree Miller, The Washington Post

"Hiestand won the 1990 Whiting Writers Award and received a National Poetry Series award. Her book is more than a collection of travel essays...She brings a keen intellect and intuitive insight into human nature, and her prose is both evocative and lyrical...With its natural synthesis of poetry and prose with nature and culture, this volume provides a literary treat for the mind." --Jane Gilliland, Library Journal

The Very Rich Hours has very rich prose, full of grace.

Traveling through the eyes and heart of Hiestand is engaging and thoroughly fulfilling. As Bonnie Costello said, "The prose quivers with grace and wit as it charges the large questions with luminous details." Or, as Robert Finch said, "The most exciting travel writing I've read in years."

The Very Rich Hours does not merely tell; it transports. And if this is not enough, it also entertains. Hiestand has an eye for the humor innate in most situations involving human beings, a sense communicated delicately and wryly rather than broadly. The tableau which features Hiestand and her travelling companion learning how to navigate a houseboat in the Everglades is as funny as choice parts of Douglas Adams' Last Chance to See. Like Adams, Hiestand does not allow her own discomfiture to eclipse the enjoyment her audience might obtain from her experience. Hiestand also knows that the real adventure in travelling lies in discoveries like the Stromness Natural History Museum, with its "hundred frozen-in-flight, frozen-on-a-branch, or frozen-in-defense-of-their-young stuffed birds," or the sudden appearance of an herbalist shop, populated by "crones," on a busy Athens street. She finds many marvelous surprises, and she invests the time and att! ention required to appreciate and understand them. The Very Rich Hours deserves the same attention.
