This is a great book if you are considering to work in the industry. There is another book called Working on a Yacht which is written in a more matter of fact way. However this books is very fun and exciting to read. I would recommend it to anyone who is curious. I'm sure all life on a Yacht will not be exactly like the books says but I believe it is a very realistic description of the industry.

I did it!!!! Thanks Julie

A big thank you to Julie!!!! This book guided me every step of the way. I ordered the book on 3-17-08, and on 6-3-08 I was on my first boat!! Julie not only gives you an accurate view of what working on a yacht is truly like, she includes her own personal accounts out at sea (which, by the way, are quite funny!!). Julie includes EVERYTHING you will need from training, accomodations, to local spots to network in various ports. I bought this book with no real intention on changing my career. I had always wondered about the industry, and once I got the book, I couldnt put it down. The very next day I started taking the steps toward making this dream a reality. You will find Julie's stories entertaining and the book will engage you from page one. If you have ever thought about becoming a yachtie, you MUST HAVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!

A fantastic insight for anyone interested in this career!

This book is not only a "How To" it's a very good insight on how things really are once you get out on the big sea. The author does a great job by not leading you on that everything is fantastic all the time and tells it like it is. The "I must Confess..." are great additions and I found myself sometimes skipping ahead just to read some of those. I bought this book because I was interested in the profession and couldn't find anything worth reading about it. This is the book to read! And after reading it, I am certain that I am going to Ft. Lauderdale and becoming a Yacht Stew.

This could be a yacht stew's Bible!

If ever a book has been available that tells it like it is, as this book does, about the process for landing a dream job in the yachting industry as a Stewardess (OR OTHER CREW MEMBER) aboard multiple million dollar luxury Yachts.........SHAZAMMMM!!! AND BINGO!!!...THIS IS IT!!!!

The book is packed with humor and numerous "innocent" confessions of the author's experiences aboard. It's as close as a complete picture can be for preparing to enter this magnificant industry with more info than you'd ever need to taking the first step to a sucessful career in the ultimate world of travel excitement......immediately securing employment as a fully trained crew member after a minimum of two weeks intense training at the finest training facilities available in the world.

College grads with no immediate plans and looking for the perfect job...ATTENTION...,this is what you've been looking for and didn't even know it!

This book is definitely for someone wanting to know what it is "really like" to work on a yacht. This book is funny, informative and a good source to find out what mega-yacht life is like, one you will go back and read a second time. Her adventures were delightful and am hoping Julie writes another book soon!

Excellent guide for the aspiring hustler!
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-06
This book provided the inspiration and guidance for a successful part-time hustling career for me. It's a good and thorough how-to guide to becoming an independent male escort, from deciding whether or not you're really cut out for it to advertising, safety issues, pricing, STDs, dealing with clients, legal issues and managing your money in what's often a quasi-legal or simply illegal profession. It maintains a focus on professionalism and good management throughout, which I think is really key to any successful business, including escorting. It's also full of anecdotes that ilustrate the points made, and gives a good picture of the author's own experience in developing and maintaining a successful escort career. A few small disappointments with the book include:

1. Although it includes one chapter on agencies and brothels, it doesn't deal with them in detail Also, it doesn't talk about street hustling at all, probably reflecting the author's class bias. It's definitely targeted at a more upscale, "escort" type sex worker. This was fine for my purposes but might not be useful for others.

2. The internet advertising and cyberhustling information is now somewhat out of date, although the general principles are probably still useful.

3. American focus throughout... as a Canadian boy, this made it less useful for me... though it was still pretty darn useful! We need someone to write "Male Escorting for Canadians for Dummies" :)

Overall, a fun and informative read and a must-read for any guy who's thinking of escorting.

A must read for both escorts and clients

Aaron Lawrence has wrote a book that not only is a necessity for those thinking of becoming an escort but a very interesting read for clients as well. If you want to learn how things work from the other side of the fence, this is the book to choose. Insightful and well written, it is a book that you will read in one sitting. If there were a test to becoming an escort, this would be the study guide of choice.

Realistic and Honest

Lawrence's second book, The Male Escort's Handbook, is as honestly and realistically written as his first book about his own experiences as a callboy. In 21 chapters, yup you read correctly, 21!, he covers everthing from disease, to fees, to agencies, to legal advice, and personally balancing sex for money with sex in your private and personal life. Guess what? Escorting is neither total fun nor total depravity, for Lawrence it is a career. The book is geared toward escorts, and I'd say clients too, who are both male. This isn't a guide for female escorts or males escorts who do female clients but some of the basics could be applied to either group I suspect.

Very helpful

The author has a gift for telling non-fiction stories in a manner that makes it read like great fiction. Ken Glover's book appeals to real people -- everyday people who listen for God's voice in in their regular lives. Ken takes situations from his daily life and invites the reader to explore with him how God speaks clearly and lucidly words of instruction, encouragement, and even humor. In telling his own story, Ken enables others to hear how God speaks to them. Excellent read. Glover's book is a superb learning tool for any small group to explore together.

HOW THE WORLD STOPPED TO MOURN HRH DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-02
Yes, this book is now 10 years old. And it's been 10 years since Princess Diana died, but this book is a very vivid reminder of that horrible week following her death. That week where I, and I'm guessing millions more, stayed glued to the TV not quite believing what had happened. This book brings the chaos of that tragic time back, but gives us the most beautiful remembrences of the late princess from people she touched. People she visited at hospitals where she shined her brightest helping people.

I was hoping there would be pictures in this as well, but the picture on the cover is the way I'd like to remember her. Beautiful, happy, radiant. And really I wouldn't want to see pictures from that week anyway. It was too sad to remember it just reading about it. This book captured that one week in a tiny time capsule in a way I've never seen any book on history do. Because now that is what she is believe it or not-history.

During the 10 year memorial stuff my 5 year old niece asked who the pretty blonde woman on the TV all the time was. We told her she was a princess who was very kind to sick people and cared for others, but had died before she was born. She looked up at me and asked, "A REAL princess?" When she's older I'll gladly give her this book to show her how the entire world stopped to grieve over the most amazing woman in the world. And tell her how one ordinary person CAN change the world. Princess Diana was proof of that.

So YES! This is a book for anyone's collection!

Emotional and Moving!

I think Princess Diana was one of the most loved royal family members of England and the world and this book proves that! I felt like she connected with everyone she met. I never met her but I was in a car traveling through the streets of London once and her royal auto passed by, it seemed to glow with her warmth. Review written by the author of Bruised But Still Strong which contains a poem about Princess Di called HRH.

at least in a very long time. I picked up the book as soon as received and had a difficult time putting it down. Its been a long time (over 2 years) since Diana's passing but this book made it feel like it was last month. All the feelings and emotions came flooding back & made me remember what a great loss this was to the world. Obviously the writers of the essays etc had very strong emotions towards Princess Diana. The feeling of love for this lady comes pouring out of each story.

One of the best Diana books i've read and ive read some!

While dozens of pictorial testimonials to Princess Diana have already appeared Requiem offers more than eighty written tributes and recollections. Dont buy this book for pictures it leaves that to others. But this 43 year old does not mind saying the tributes and recollections moved him to tears. If you are a Diana fan this book is a must have.

Beveryly Gray is truly a wonderful biographer. She captures the tone and warmth of Ron Howard throughout the book. Beverly also puts you "in the know" for the locales, such as Greenwich, Connecticut, where Ron Howard moved to partially shield his children from the "glamorous temptations of the film industry." This is a book for people who want to take a walk with Howard and really get to know what drives him. It's warm, friendly, and low-key, just like its subject. And a great read! Well done, Beverly! Oh, by the way, did I mention Beverly also teaches film at UCLA Extension. A wonderful, warm person in her own right.

Ron Howard-From Child Star to Innovative Director

Review Date: 2003-12-26
One of the advantages of an "unauthorized" biography is that it should offer a more creative and exciting challenges to the biographer and a much greater illumination to the reader.
There is always the danger when a biography is authorized that a conflict of interest may arise and the truth may be compromised.

Beverly Gray's unauthorized biography Ron Howard From Mayberry to the Moon..and Beyond is a "putting the record straight" kind of a book, wherein some of the myths that have been prevalent in the press for so many years are explored and set aside.

Many of us have grown up with Ron Howard the child actor Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show, and then as Richie Cunningham of Happy Days.
Today, Ron Howard is a well known Hollywood film director and producer, who directed such films as: Through the Magic Pyramid, Night Shift, Cocoon, Willow, Parenthood, Backdraft, Far and Away, The Paper, Apollo 13, Ransom, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Academy award winner, A Beautiful Mind.

Gray practically begins her story from the cradle. Howard was born of parents, who themselves were actors, and at eighteen months he captured his first acting role as a crying baby, thanks to the efforts of his father.
Throughout his life, his parents, Rance and Jean Howard, played a tremendous role in shaping his life, and at the tender age of five years his father had imparted in him professionalism and basic acting techniques that have remained with him throughout his career.

As we read Howard's "unauthorized" biography, we are amazed at the extensive research that must have gone into the writing of this book, most of which was gleaned from Howard's interviews with the media over the years, as well as the author's interviews with many of his associates.
One advantage of writing Howard's biography in the prime of his life is that almost everyone is still around from his youth and his filmmaking career.

Practically no stone is left unturned, as we trudge along with the author from Howard's early childhood until his present day directing achievements.
We learn of his successes as well as his failures, and very often we are privy to some little known facts about him.
As an example, Howard was in awe by director George Lucas's talents and counter culture approach to filmmaking, as was in evidence in the film American Graffiti, where Howard had been asked to improvise scenes with other actors.

Movie buffs will surely appreciate the four appendices included at the end of the book that provide a timeline for the actor, filmography as an actor, filmography as a director and producer, and his major awards and honors.

One deficiency I found with the book, and one that is very prevalent in many biographies, is the creation of a narrative pattern that relies on the chronological tick of events; the day- by -day or year- by- year pattern should have been re-imagined. If the author had made Howard's story more innovative, it would have been more attractive to its readers.

I found Ms. Gray's study of Ron Howard to be a highly creative and attention-grabbing presentation of a man with a constantly developing and fascinating career and personality, ranging from his child-actor beginnings through his current reputation as a successful director in many genres. The book brought to life his early years in the Andy Griffith television series and "The Music Man." The author's treatment of his recent film, "A Beautiful Mind," is especially moving and insightful and tied together Howard's consistency and creative exploration in all of his work. His ever-present optimism, human decency, energetic habit of taking on new challenges, and loyal respect for others in his life and his work is presented in a very appreciative and in-depth way.

Opie to Richie to the Moon

Did you ever want to be Opie when you were a kid? I did. The thing about Opie was that even when he got into trouble, and he did get into trouble, everybody still liked him. Beverly Gray, in Ron Howard From Mayberry to the Moon, presents a good case that the same is true of Mr. Howard. Everybody in the motion picture business likes him, that is if you exclude a few pretentious critics (and even they probably like him, just not always his happy endings). Nice guys do NOT always finish last.

Howard did not cooperate with this biography because "he felt himself to be in midcareer and not ready to participate in a long range assessment of his accomplishment." OK, fair enough. Keep that in mind while you are reading, but do read it.

From Opie to Richie to director, this is a detailed portrait of a man whom everyone agrees is a real mensch and who is wildly successful. It is also fascinating, and adds to Howard's charm, to realize who loyal he is to his family and friends, yet how honestly he treats them when casting projects. Simply put, if he feels they are right for a part, they get it; if not, they don't. That takes quite a bit of respect and love - from the actor and the director.

Gray's extensive interviews bring out some interesting bits of trivia about Howard. Her prose flows nicely and her organization is excellent. Maybe in another forty years or so, she can write an update - next time with Ron Howard's input.

Would make a great wintertime gift for a gardner. It was fun and informative. It would help to fill-in that awful winter void when we gardners can't play in the dirt.

This book is really great because I got to see more pictures of Max and Pauline. I love their adventures and want to read more about the neat places they go. I wish I was a dog or a cat too.

Utterly beguiling. Even the rainbow could take a lesson or two from Ms. Rich's palate which fairly spills over on every page. Who knew such colors existed?! Ms. Rich, what planet are you from? A thousand thanks for settling here and bringing your paint-brush with you.

Imaginatively written and busily illustrated by Beatrice Rich, Vanessa and the Enchanted Painting is an energetic picture book story about Vanessa, a young girl and her pals Max and Paulie who step through a painting and thereby find themselves in a mystical enchanted world. Just when they fear themselves lost for good, an angel shows them the way back. Vanessa and the Enchanted Painting is recommended as being a charming picture book story profusely illustrated with abstract-style color pastels.

Everything you wanted to know and more. A must have for his fans. Good, clear photographs. Experience his up's and down's on the road to making it big. An easy, quick read but, satisfying like good, chocolate flavored, vanilla ice cream.

A GOOD LOOK AT ACTOR VIN DIESEL

THIS IS A VERY CASUAL AND PICTORAL LOOK AT THE VERY POPULAR ACTOR. IT IS NOT IN GREAT DETAIL BECAUSE VIN WANTS HIS PRIVATE LIFE TO REMAIN PRIVATE. I FOUND THE BOOK TO BE VERY INTERESTING AND ENTERTAINING. VIN IS A VERY LIKABLE GUY WHO IS VERY UNDERRATED AS AN ACTOR. THIS IS A MUST FOR FANS OF VIN. VERY RECOMMENDED.

XXXposed Completly!

There really isn't much that I cannot say for this book. It was great. Every avid Vin Diesel (Mark Vincent) fan out there has to read this book. It is a must have for all fans and it lends a great deal of personal history to this mysterious actor taking Hollywood by storm. It even gives a little heads up on future films he may be in, and we all wanna know that before hand, right? Anyway, enough said, worth every penny!
