REED in Review is a celebration of and tribute to the twenty-fifth anniversary (in 2002) of the Records of Early English Drama project. REED in review presents thirteen essays based on the content of selected contest papers, plus a fourteenth submitted at the editors' invitation. Spanning topics from the effect of REED research on Shakespeare textual editing, Robin Hood, patronage, and Elizabethan theatre studies, to details of recent discoveries in Scottish records, the possibilities that Web technologies have to offer, and much more, REED in review connects the past and future of literary research with scholarly precision, highlighting unexplored depths in human culture and expression across the centuries. Enthusiastically recommended especially for college library and literary studies shelves.

If - like me - you have struggled for years trying to make decent reeds (american scrape), this is the book for you! The authors guide you painlessly through their step-by-step method. NOTHING is left out, and the chapters are carefully arranged so that you can quickly find what you need. My VERY FIRST reed using this method was performance quality!

The book is spiral bound so it stays open at the page you need while you're scraping - a simple but neat idea. Some highlights:

* How to sharpen your knife

* How to crow CORRECTLY (and understand what you hear!)

* Tying on without cracks or leaks

* Get a working reed from the crow alone

this book is worth every shekel!

This is a revelatory book about the culture of the Marsh Arabs in Iraq. The author travels with the famous expert, Wilfred Theisiger and gives the reader a deep understanding of why Iraq will resist any central government's attempt to form a cohesive central government. A classic!

Essential Navigational Tool

REED's 2008 West Coast Almanac (Reed's Nautical Almanac North American West Coast)Reed's West Coast Nautical Almanac is an essential tool for the coastal navigator, whether a professional mariner or a weekend cruiser. It is a virtual navigational cookbook. It contains contact information for harbormasters and port facilities from Mexico to Alaska. It lists the aids to navigation and their characteristics for every navigable channel on the North American west coast. It includes tide and current tables, including secondary stations. You'll find entry and clearance procedures for Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. It even has star charts. Note that you need to purchase a new copy every year because the tide and current charts are listed on by calendar year. I like Reed's because it combines information from a number of sources into one easily indexed volume. You shouldn't leave port without it.

Tears and Smiles of Healing
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-13
A lesson in life and love that cannot be read without tears and smiles. The journey these parents have just begun to recover the son they have so tragically lost touched me so deeply that when I finished it I didn't want to talk to anyone because I didn't want to lose contact with their world. Mr. Lott has done his homework well. As a professional who sometimes must help parents through the initial moments of a child's death - I recognized the experience of Hugh and Laura. I applaud that he never once used the word "closure", because there never is any. But the strength to many healings will come from the memories of Michael that they and many others will gradually come to have the strength to share. There are no miracles to make it all better, but as they learned, there are a lot of small moments of pain that will get them through.

This is a book for parents, friends of parents, nurses, doctors...or just anyone who has ever loved a child.

An ideal reference guide

Review Date: 2008-02-18
It's a compact refresher guide for boating captains, navigators and deck hands. It's extremely concise, clear and well illustrated with lots of examples. It's small, takes little space on the shelves, very easy to carry around. The colour coded pages aid in finding what you need quickly.

Do not confuse this as a starter's guide, though. Nothing replaces proper boating/sailing education and full manuals. This book covers the essentials and serves as an aid in those rare moments when one forgets the little, less obvious things. Keep in mind this is mostly for british waterways, but does make frequent reference to American standards (when it applies, often they're the same).

A Sailor's Manual
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-03-03
This book is everything it promised to be. Recommemded by a retired meteorologist during his marine meteorlogy seminar at the Seattle Boat Show, I bought it based on his recommendation. Written for professional fishermen and merchant marine officier trainees, it is easy to understand, well-doumented with color photographs, graphs and tables and a pleasure to read. A must-have book.
