I bought this book, as well as a couple of others in the series, when I was stationed in northern Japan from 1986-89. This book makes cooking so simple for anyone. There are many photos for the receipes, but also a lot of information on techniques, styles, menus, etc. I would highly reccomend any of this series of books.

This is a wonderful book for teaching science to elementary age children. Subjects included in this book provide hands-on learning for the National Standards of Learning for Science. The book is divided into subject chapters (i.e. Light, Sound, etc.). Each chapter is filled with hands-on science experiments which are interesting to children. Each chapter also includes easy to understand explanations of the concept being taught. Experiments are easy to set up and use simple products usually available around your home.

Unlike most other astronomy writings, How Many Pieces of Toilet Paper Do I Need to Get from Here to the Nearest Star, is intriguing and informative, yet cuts out all the extra "fluff" of an ordinary non-fiction book. It has a casual tone, in the sense that it feels as if the author is standing right there, answering whatever question you may have about our universe. This format works great for the book; you can flip open to any page on any chapter, and still understand the information. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone, even those who wouldn't usually be interested in the subject.

This book is great, absolutely brilliant. John Wareham was a management guru long before it was fashionable in the 70's and 80's. He was the the Donald Trump of recruitment consultants and his information has only become more relevant over time. If you can get a copy - you will NEVER regret it.

A Spiritual Guide
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-07-28
This book is a guide to spiritual development. Candace R. Benyei, its author, brings many skills to her task as leader of a spiritual search. She is a visual artist, having designed the cover of her book, a poet who wrote the introductory poem, and a psychotherapist and theologian who examines scripture in light of deep human needs.
The reader will be guided on a trail somewhat different than the path usually taken by Christian writers. Benyei takes a dim view of the doctrine of original sin, feeling that this only contributes to what she, as a psychotherpist, refers to as "learned incompetence." Instead, she celebrates what she, as a Christian mystic, identifies as "that of God" in every person. The divine breath in each of us draws humanity together into loving communities, which Benyei sees as the bedrock of Christian existence.
The central chapters of the book are devoted to an exploration of the Beatitudes, the "Rules of Life" for living together in communities of justice and concern. The author's knowledge of the Greek language opens many insights into the meaning of Jesus' pithy phrases. Benyei concudes this discussion with a helpful paraphrase of the Beatitudes, a paraphrase that draws together ancient scripture and current concerns.
Each of the ten chapters relating to the Beatitudes includes a series of spiritual exercises. Here the author's educational and psychological skills assist readers to internalize the ideas they have just encountered.

Benyei is a trustworthy guide for all who find themselves on a spiritual quest.

i was surprized to learn the author has a harvard MBA. i'd read his website johntreed.com and always thought of him as a bitter person. but this book has NO FLUFF and is full of sound practical advice. he explains the 3 year payback rule for everything from light bulbs to renovations and has calculations to back it all.
must read for anyone thinking of, or already managing property.

Scared's Review

This is a great book for kids, showing most of the fears the kids might have at that age, or what activities they do that others might think are scary. It also lets them know that there will be someone there for them to help them when they are scared (in this case, it's one of their dads). Making for a nice first book, this is definitely one of the best children's books that I have read so far.
