Nothing really compares to actually visiting a college, but if that's impossible due to time and money constraints, then this guide is almost as good. The Best 366 Colleges, 2008 Edition (College Admissions Guides) Only gives two pages per college, not nearly enough. This book has about 150 (albeit small) pages.

Reed is a pretty unique school, so I was interested to see what the students who went there thought about it. This book gives you pretty much any information on the school you might want: what the classes are like, what the city is like, what is there to do, are there good places to party, etc. Really great stuff - I definitely recommend it.

This is a good supplemental resource for the Marvel Superheroes Adventure Game SAGA Rules edition. There are some interesting ideas and information to implement in here. In additional to information and ideas, though, there are also plenty of stats for non-player characters that didn't make it into the core books (for example, there's a page with stats for ghosts and zombies). If you're an MSHAG enthusiast like me, you'll want a copy of this book.

There is something about friendship quilts that touches our hearts. Seeing those names from the past we wonder about these people. What were they like? What were their lives like? Linda Otto Lipsett wondered too and that wondering became this book. In "Remember Me" , she tells the stories of seven women and their friendship quilts. Along with the women's stories are beautiful pictures of their quilts as well as great old photographs of the women and their times. In order to write this book Lipsett interviewed numerous relatives and others who remembered these woman. Through the stories in this book we become aware of what it was like to be a woman during the times when these quilts were made. Somehow reading these stories written on such a personal level makes their lives so very real.

Review Date: 2000-09-17
This book will intrigue any reader interested in American history, quilts, or the art of the human soul. A book is more than paper and ink, as a quilt is more than cloth and thread. Lipsett illuminates the lives of women who worked the names of loved ones and pieced together patches of remembrances into treasured friendship quilts. Historically the lives of the women were often fraught with hardship and deprivation. This book shares the beauty and joy these women created in the form of friendship quilts. For many women of the era, the quilts they left behind were the only concrete evidence that they ever existed. The cameo biographies bring the reader into the lives of these women. The photos and explanations emphasize the significance quilts have played in the lives of people. A wonderful book.

As we read about Bill's growing up with an alcoholic and abusive father and an overwhelmed mother we are forced to see how we are influenced by the behavior of those around us.....especially our parents. In some cases, when we are treated well as children we take that as the norm and our children benefit. In some cases being treated badly comes down from one's parents to one's children. In Bill's case, being badly treated taught Bill how NOT to treat his children. Bill's story teaches a valuable lesson in a down-to-earth way. I hope that everyone has a chance to read Safe Harbor:A Boy's Story

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and could not put it down! In Safe Harbor: A Boy's Story, the author recalls the experiences of his childhood years during and after WWII, along with the family dynamics that infuenced the way he related to others as he grew into an adult. The wonderful anecdotes that fill the pages provide a picture of daily life during that era. This book holds a great lesson that needs to be continuously told and is so often forgotten: that how our children are treated and raised radiates out across generations. This is one book you will recommend to all your friends!

This great little book, originally printed in 1958, brings the saints alive for children. The stories in this book can be read aloud to children of all ages. The first part of the book covers Abraham, John Bosco, Dominic Savio, Maria Goretti, Bernadette Soubirous, Therese Lisieux and the Holy Family, giving stories to help children see how these people became saints. It views their family life, how they grew up, what their faults were and how they overcame them. The second part gives saint stories for parents to use to illustrate a teaching point and correction of their children. The subjects cover areas like loving one's neighbor, purgatory, obedience, selfishness, impure thoughts, temper trouble, pain and suffering, grudge holding -- points all illustrated through a short story from a saint's life. Tremendous family teaching tool, enjoyable and memorable reading.

Great Resource for Parents

As a diehard Mary Reed Newland fan, I was thrilled when this book was reprinted. The best aspect of this book is that, unlike most lives of the saints, it is written particularly to encourage parents in their efforts in raising their children. Mrs. Newland takes four particular childhood saints -- Dominic Savio, Maria Goretti, Bernadette Soubirous and Thérèse Martin -- and shows how their upbringing and family circumstances, all as diverse as any upbringings and environments can be, formed them. Then she takes different virtues and lessons, using a particular saint story to illustrate how each saint acquired virtue and overcame temptation.
If you have ever felt discouraged in raising your children, if you have ever wondered if they will ever turn out right, you need to read this book and take courage in God's help and your cooperation with His graces.

I was totally surprised by my enjoyment of 'The Sanctioned Fruit'. It is an unusual book of poetry and a family history with pictures of the author and her family. I found myself reliving parts of my childhood, some sad, some happy. The poems of Nature and Nurture will make you want to go outside and play in the dirt again and watch for the sunrises and sunsets. And the poems of Death and Despair will cause you to murmur some of the prayers over and over again.

'The Sanctioned Fruit' is one of the very few poetry books that I find myself rereading over and over. I'm sure everyone will enjoy it very much. I enjoyed it so much that for the first time in my life, I wrote the author a letter of thanks.

Eye Opening Revelations

Review Date: 2006-10-16
Dr. Margaret Mahony takes the reader behind the scenes and into the intimate world of a physician. Her book "Saving the Soul of Medicine" bears witness to the unpredictable, intense, and complex issues physicians face on a daily basis. She shares her experiences, thoughts, and reflections.

In the first section Dr. Mahony relates the stories of patients, caregivers, and members of the medical profession. These life experiences reveal the impact of "managed care" on doctor - patient relationships, patient care and treatment and the complexity of making the "system" work.

Dr. Mahony opens part two "Unsung Heroes and Heroines" this way: "There is a palpable uneasiness present in the entire medical community. `Entire' meaning all of the persons who work in this vast and complex enterprise. This includes the allied health staff, the nurses, the physicians, the educators, and all others who have daily contact with the human beings who come to them in their hour of need, seeking attention, seeking recovery, seeking healing."

The author then draws attention to changes in the quality of the nursing staff, formulary prescription policies, changes in the pharmaceutical industry, all issues currently being dictated by large HMO managed care decision makers. Trusting patients become vulnerable victims of an insurance driven system.

In part three of the book Mahony's describes what it means to be a physician. She details her role as authority figure, patient advocate, arbitrator, and the current blurring image of that role. She describes it as somewhere between "deity and a drain fixer."

Mahony concludes by heralding a call to reclaim the physician patient relationship. In addition she proposes two solutions to implement change. First is the medical savings account. Her second proposal calls for adoption of the Planetree philosophy. This is a non profit health care organization dedicated to creating health care environments that are nurturing, healing, and educational.

Mahony is sensitive to the principles of medical ethics set forth by the American Medical Association and is committed to providing her patients with a quality health care, well being, and healing. She is articulate, well qualified as a practicing physician, and an expert in women's health issues. She has been Director of the Women's Health Program at the Center for Integrative Medicine at O'Conner Hospital in San Jose, California.

This is a book that should be read by every patient and health care professional. It is a wake up call to action, a call to a passionate dedication to save the soul of medicine.

"Must" reading for all health care professionals & activists

Review Date: 2000-08-03
Based on hundreds of true-life stories and viewpoints of patients, doctors, nursers, and health care professionals, Saving The Soul Of Medicine is an impressive and informative compendium of inspiring essays demonstrating the spiritual aspects of the physician/patient relationship -- and how to heal it when dysfunctions. Dr. Margaret Mahony is an activist for health care reform and maintains a private gynecology practice in San Jose, California. During her last years as a participating HMO physician, her growing concern for her patients' welfare moved her to collect actual patients stories that document a stunning indictment of a health care system gone awry. Saving The Soul Of Medicine not only reveals how contemporary health care service provider organizations have gone astray from the social and ethical commitments to serving the public, it also advocates for us to take back control of the medical industry as it is currently constituted in the form of managed health care practices as routinely employed by contemporary HMO organizations. Saving The Soul Of Medicine is "must" reading by all health care activists and reformers, health care service providers and insurers, legislators and health care policy makers, and the non-specialist general reader with a vital interest in this pressing and universal social issue.

Troubling Secrets indeed!

Review Date: 2005-09-17
Lt. Colonel William Winterstein should be commended for his courage in exposing the deep secrets of the Space Program. Upon finishing this book I came away with two impressions. The first being how suppressed the history is of the fact that it was the German Scientist who propelled the U.S. into space and on to the moon. It's amazing how neglected and hidden this fact is, as if it would be an embarrassment to our country.

The other of course is the much more troubling fact; that these great scientist were targeted by the DOJ's Office of Special Investigations for obviously nothing more than vengeful political gain. Now, years after his prosecution, Arthur Rudolph's story is one of our nations greatest tragedies. The conduct of the OSI, from the Directors Rosenbaum & Sher, on down to the prosecuting attorney's is a story of government sanctioned terrorism. There's no other way to state it, sheer, appalling unjust reign of terror.

The fact that despite the clear and wrongful conduct of Neal Sher as Director of OSI (who has since been disbarred for his actions in steeling from WJC's
Holocaust victims relief funds), that he goes un-prosecuted for his crimes continues to be a great mystery. It demonstrates that some people are above
the laws and some groups have the powers to control the judicial system of our government.

Perhaps herein lies the interesting fact that while the book was published in August, Amazon has book sellers selling used books for $12. Is this to give an impression the book and its contents are worthless? Look at who endorsed the book and what they have said! Clearly, some people have much to hide. This book should be required reading by Aviation Historians
as well as any and everyone interested in knowing just how corrupt and 'sold out' our government can be!

Edgar Mitchell was the Lunar Command pilot of Apollo 14.

"Secrets of The Space Age" is an important addition to U.S. history and to the record of U.S. efforts in space.
Edgar Mitchell, Sc.D.
Capt USN (Ret.) Apollo Astronaut

Col. Winterstein is a courageous patriot and pioneer of America's space program from its birth with the testing of the captured German V-2 rockets to the landings on the moon. He has a great, but sometimes dark, story to tell about America's advance into space and about what became of the men who took us there.
Patrick J Buchanan

Winterstein's book is a must read historical milestone. It begins with the advent of the space age of America. He was custodian of the German rocket team led by Dr. Wernher von Braun, who were invited to come to this country by President Truman immediately after WWII in 1945. He convinced von Braun to keep his team intact. This led to America's space victory in 1969, when von Braun and his team launched humankind into the space age by placing U.S. astronauts on the moon. Thus von Braun's dreams came true for opening up the new frontier for the peaceful use of all humankind. The final days of America's greatest space hero are also revealed in most interesting detail.
Dr. Carol Rosin, President, Institute for Cooperation in Space

Dear Bill:
I found your book interesting and was impressed by the facts concerning the history of the von Braun Team who contributed to our missile activities.
A major goal was established in the early 1960's by President Kennedy, who transferred the Army Ballistic Missile team, (led by von Braun), to Marshall Space Flight Center of NASA, except for Dr. Arthur Rudolph, who was kept by the Army to finish the design of the Pershing missile, then he joined the MSFC team at a key management and technical responsibility for our Space Program in the early 1960's.
Joseph C. Moquin (Former CEO of Brown Engineering when Brown was a contractor supporting the Apollo Program)

Immigrants working together in harmony and peace have made America the great nation it is! Lt. Colonel William E. Winterstein Sr.'s story of Arthur Rudolph is one such story. Rudolph designed the Pershing missile and he was directly responsible for designing and building the huge Saturn launch vehicle, which put man on the moon. This great feat put America into the lead during the Cold War.
However after Rudolph had dedicated his life to the US space effort, he was wrongly robbed of his honor and citizenship and exiled by the OSI, an agency within our government. This true and "unbelievable" story may be a forecast of things to come for US citizens? Read "SECRETS OF THE SPACE AGE" and be forewarned.
Martin Hollmann, President of Scientists and Friends

Col. William E. Winterstein, the author, merits great commendation for his superb chronicle of the outstanding American rocketry and space travel legacy of Dr. Arthur Rudolph. As stated in the text, the OSI produced no evidence of wrongdoing by Dr. Rudolph pursuant to our request for evidence under the Freedom of Information Act.
Robert Sellers Smith Lawyer involved with Arthur Rudolph's Appeal

Every American who cares about justice and historical truth owes a debt of gratitude to William Winterstein for this first-hand look at the US space program, which he reinforces with valuable research and illuminating insights. The author is a World War II hero and internationally known rocket specialist who rose to the rank of US Army Lt. Colonel. He supervised security involving the 118 German rocket scientists, headed by Dr. Wernher von Braun, who came to the US after the war to help build America's guided missile program. From 1945 through the 1960s, Winterstein worked closely with von Braun and his team.
In perhaps the book's most important section, Winterstein takes a close and courageous look at the US government's persecution of Arthur Rudolph. Few men contributed more to mankind's first landing on the moon than Dr. Rudolph, a German-born scientist who capped a brilliant career as production manager of the giant Saturn V rocket that in 1969 carried three American astronauts to the lunar surface. Praised as one of this country's greatest scientists, he was awarded numerous high honors, including NASA's Distinguished Service Medal.
In 1982, more than a decade after his retirement, the "Office of Special Investigations" -- a US government agency set up under Jewish-Zionist pressure to serve narrow, un-American interests -- began a campaign to brand Rudolph a Nazi war criminal for his role in Germany's wartime V2 rocket program. Rudolph was stripped of his US citizenship, and forced to return to Germany. A German government investigation found no grounds for bringing charges against the elderly man, who died in early 1996.
Winterstein untangles the complexities of this politically-loaded case, marshals facts that exonerate Rudolph, and delivers a stern but persuasive indictment of US government injustice.
Mark Weber Director Institute for Historical Review

1) In 1993 the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeal held that OSI attorneys (in the Demjanjuk case) had acted with reckless disregard for their duty to the court and that they had committed "fraud on the court". Yet no one was fired and the OSI is still in operation. Years of observing its activities have convinced me that their approach is fundamentally flawed and incompatible with international human rights standards. In my opinion the OSI is un-American, undemocratic, unnecessary and a waste of taxpayers money.
2) The German rocket team served the people of America with loyalty and distinction. The American people and all humanity owe them respect and gratitude for their significant contribution to the space program. The uses of science are in the hands of good and bad politicians. Science and technology are apolitical.
Alfred de Zayas an historian who authored numerous books including Nemesis at Potsdam. (Göttingen)
American educated lawyer (Harvard) and former Secretary of the United Nations Human Rights Committee and currently professor of international law.
He is President of the United Nations Society of Writers & Secretary-General of the PEN Club in Geneva, Switzerland.

The author, who worked closely with members of the Wernher von Braun Rocket Team for many years, is highly qualified to present the historical events in the USA. Like many high ranking army officers, who had a direct knowledge of the Team's work during WWII he disagrees with the discrimination and railroad attempts of the Office of Special Investigations that started in 1982. Supported by extensive documentation and logical conclusions he hopes that the injustice will be corrected.
Dr. Walter Haeussermann

The author studied a huge amount of "Rudolph case" documents. He discussed this topic over many years with Rocket Team members and other interested persons. Based on his military and juristic background he concluded that the United States Justice Department has done to its citizen Arthur Rudolph a grave injustice by lying and distorting facts, which led to his expulsion from this country. The book updates the public on the shameful mistreatment that this outstanding scientist received from the country, which he had chosen, as his post-war home and for which he had contributed major advances in technology and management. These unlawful "Justice" Department actions have disgusted thousands of his former coworkers in Government and Industry and they want these illegal actions revoked and the distorted space history corrected.

Confirmation of Dr. von Braun's remark about Bill Winterstein

Ernst Stuhlinger
September 13, 2002.
Colonel William E. Winterstein
Dear Bill,
Thank you for your letters of September 9 and 10. - I would like to make three comments:
(1) my remark to Constance of May 2000 In Huntsville should be expanded some¬what, as indicated in my letter to Constance (enclosed).
(2) there were 5 members of the von Braun team who left the team (for greener pastures: Magnus von Braun, joining the Chrysler Corporation; Martin Schilling, joining the Raytheon Corporation, Theodor Buchhold, joining General Electric; Adolf Thiel, joining Thompson-Ramo-Wooldridge; and Hugo Woerdemann, starting his own company.
3). In the summer of 1969, after the three astronauts of Apollo 11 (Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Mike Collins) had returned safely to Earth, I remarked to von Braun that it was really fortunate that he decided in Fort Bliss during the late 1940s not to accept one of the lucrative offers from industry, but to stay with his team and the American Government, and to wait patiently for better times. "Yes', he said. ` The credit belongs to Bill Winterstein. He persuaded me, and I believed him!"
Bill, I hope this will be useful to you. Best of luck for your project!
Sincerest wishes Dr. Ernst Stuhlinger

This was the first Shelby Reed book I've ever read. It didn't disappoint! For the first time in a long time the characters and their plight lingered in my mind long after I read the final page!

The story goes something like this...Gia, the heroine of the story, was raised with basically nothing to call her own, except the love of a grandmother, who was apparently aware of their heritage, that of being daughters of Longinus. She passed a medallion, which was a family heirloom, to her unsuspecting 6-year old granddaughter who 20 years later had no idea where it was. The 26-year old Gia was living in the lap of luxury with a man she didn't love, but was unwilling to give up because of the lush lifesytle she enjoyed. Along comes Seraphim! Joachim, as the leader of the Seraphim, arranges and carries out the kidnapping of the unsuspecting Gia. Of course, she fights tooth and nail and requires irrefutable proof that her husband is the demon in human clothing that Joachim claims he is. And of course, she gets it! Humbled and beaten she begans to look at Joachim and the other Seraphim as her savers, but realizes her life has changed forever and is at loose ends about where she will go and what she will do after she finds the long lost medallion and assists the Seraphim in attaining the lost Sword of Longinus. But then she is the only one who can use the sword to kill the demon who inhabits her dead husband's body.

Joachim and Gia constantly fight a very strong sexual attraction for one another that isn't consummated until the last three fourths of the book. But that's okay because there are plenty of steamy teasers that will have you shifting in your seat. The plot is strong and Reed does a great job of delving into the feelings and controversial thoughts of the main characters and the supporting characters are entertaining in their own right too. I actually felt their growing love and connection and appreciated the way I was drawn into the story line, emotions and all! I wanted to dive into the pages and bask in the glow of the strength of their love. This book makes you realize the benevolence of our Creator and questions your beliefs on what you thought you knew about Angels.

This is a must read! You won't be disappointed.
