Racial misunderstandings could lead to a disastrous war.Review Date: 2002-12-19
The cats have decided that the humans, whose first act on arriving was to kill the King's heir, are just too uncivilized and must be removed.
Meanwhile, the human throne remains empty since the Queen was assasinated years ago. The government she wisely set in motion continues to function but corruption runs unchecked. The Rangers struggle in vain to rid the human worlds of crime and violence because pirates have infiltrated the government.

Excellent book on a man so far removed from his imageReview Date: 1999-05-08
I have always been a fan of Ollie's since I was around 12 years old. He first captured my attention in the film, "The Werewolf". "Incredible!" I thought. What a good looking man; what an actor!
Then I read about him in newspapers and saw him on television, and thought "What a character!".
When I read his autobiography, which I bought back in 1980, the man was so far removed from his image portrayed in the media. His 'skill' in getting publicity; not only for himself, but for the film, was as he once put it "even bad publicity is good publicity!" and it obviously worked for the film promoters as well as himself!.
The book is an excellent insight into a sensitive man, who loved his family; was a caring person: nothing like the public image he 'created',but, above all,a man who loved life.
An excellent 'Reed' for any Reed fan.
I 'loaned' this book to a 'friend' and never got it back!!!

Eye Opening RevelationsReview Date: 2006-10-16
In the first section Dr. Mahony relates the stories of patients, caregivers, and members of the medical profession. These life experiences reveal the impact of "managed care" on doctor - patient relationships, patient care and treatment and the complexity of making the "system" work.
Dr. Mahony opens part two "Unsung Heroes and Heroines" this way: "There is a palpable uneasiness present in the entire medical community. `Entire' meaning all of the persons who work in this vast and complex enterprise. This includes the allied health staff, the nurses, the physicians, the educators, and all others who have daily contact with the human beings who come to them in their hour of need, seeking attention, seeking recovery, seeking healing."
The author then draws attention to changes in the quality of the nursing staff, formulary prescription policies, changes in the pharmaceutical industry, all issues currently being dictated by large HMO managed care decision makers. Trusting patients become vulnerable victims of an insurance driven system.
In part three of the book Mahony's describes what it means to be a physician. She details her role as authority figure, patient advocate, arbitrator, and the current blurring image of that role. She describes it as somewhere between "deity and a drain fixer."
Mahony concludes by heralding a call to reclaim the physician patient relationship. In addition she proposes two solutions to implement change. First is the medical savings account. Her second proposal calls for adoption of the Planetree philosophy. This is a non profit health care organization dedicated to creating health care environments that are nurturing, healing, and educational.
Mahony is sensitive to the principles of medical ethics set forth by the American Medical Association and is committed to providing her patients with a quality health care, well being, and healing. She is articulate, well qualified as a practicing physician, and an expert in women's health issues. She has been Director of the Women's Health Program at the Center for Integrative Medicine at O'Conner Hospital in San Jose, California.
This is a book that should be read by every patient and health care professional. It is a wake up call to action, a call to a passionate dedication to save the soul of medicine.

James Quander was a trailblazer. He was an African American living in a society that had not yet accepted equality of all. He was a man with diabetes at a time when it was considered a disability and something that should be hidden.
After a severe insulin reaction, Rohulamin encouraged his dad to write his courageous story. Rohulamin felt that reading about James' struggle with juvenile diabetes could encourage millions of others. Others needed to know that you can live successfully with this ailment. Together James and Rohulamin wrote this book.
James was born in 1918 in Washington, D.C. He was officially diagnosed with diabetes.
Bedwetting had become a problem. On one particular Easter Sunday James woke up tired and grouchy. He wasn't feeling well and was barely dragging along. "I collapsed onto one of the two forest green park benches that we always sat on in the front yard in the evenings. I just could not move and relished the fact that I was home... at least almost in my own room, in my own bed." When his father rushed to see if he was ok, "I answered, "Papa, Papa come get me. I'm too weak to get up. I can hardly move. Come get me." James was too weak to walk. Dr. Wilder was called, he suspected Juvenile Diabetes. Dr. Wilder and James became a team working together to prevent the condition from getting worse. "Never once did Mama or Papa ever let on to me that they believed that I was not going to make it. Instead they decided that they would do everything within their human ability to provide me with a quality of life equal to that of my two brothers and three sisters."
James Quander shares his experiences with us, from being diabetic to playing basketball in high school, to his struggle with Scarlet Fever, to his academic achievements. I enjoyed reading Mr. Quander's story. It is one of success, and courage. The writing is superb; the cover introduces the book well. I highly recommend "The Quander Quality" to all who enjoy non-fiction, and to those who have diabetes or are parents of a diabetic.
