The artwork is beautiful, the story is a delight. My daughter got this for her 4th birthday and this has become a staple bedtime story. It's long enough to have substance, short enough that it doesn't drag. I can't recommend it enough.

I bought this story for my daughter for her fifth birthday, and I am so glad I did. She loves it, and the story (about a little girl who visits a stone statue of a unicorn that comes to life and flies with the girl all over the world) is creative and enjoyable for both my daughter and me (that is, I don't mind reading it to her). But the best part is the pictures, which are glorious, very detailed, and actually are textured. My daughter loves feeling the raised "raindrops" and the unicorn's mane. I really recommend this to parents of children 4 - 6, especially of kids who are dreamers and love horses and unicorns.

Adorable story and beautiful illustration

How could anyone NOT like a book about a little girl, her faithful dog, and a unicorn statue that comes to life. Neil Reed's story - and particularly his illustrations - are captivating. I do love the special touch about the little girl's dog. Even though she has made this fantastic unicorn her friend, she does not lose affection for or neglect her loving dog. It's wonderful to show how chidren do not have to choose between friends or favourites; these things can co-exist and compliment one another. This story calls to mind "The Dancing Tiger" where imagination and wonder create a reality all their own. And the moral in oth of them is very sweet. So if you enjoy either one of these books...you'll want to get the other one, too.

Beautiful book

In "Money Toolbox for Women" author Audrey Reed takes sound money principles and discusses them in a metaphor of tools in a toolbox. Just like a regular toolbox each of these tools has a specific purpose and you may find that one is more useful to you at one particular time than another one, but together they comprise a complete tool set for any occasion.

Some "tools" are concrete financial advice, others are more philosophical or psychological in nature, and still others cross into the metaphysical. For example, one "tool" is a process to figuring out exactly where you spend your money and how much you spend. This is a critical part of changing your financial picture and a very sound process. Another example is the fact that many people carry around false beliefs about money. These beliefs have to change in order for you to change your financial picture. This is also sound financial advice but since these contain psychological factors the process for removing them is also a psychological one. And still another example would be kinesthetic muscle testing to get in contact with your "inner knower" for answers to questions. This clearly falls into the metaphysical for most people.

The trick here is to actually use this as a toolbox. Use the appropriate tool for the job and use the ones that you understand how to use. If you don't agree with the metaphysical tools don't discard the book, just use the ones you are uncomfortable with. There is a lot of good information in this text and it is written in a light approachable manner that most people would enjoy. For example, she discusses the bargain trolls; those things that cause you to purchase an item just because it is a tremendous bargain, not because you need or want it. It's not a bargain if you would not have normally purchased it; it is a waste of money.

Although it is written with a definite slant towards women (most men would get little value out of a tool for organizing their purse), it is a recommended purchase for anyone who wants to take control of their finances and don't know where to start.

Good advice for men also!

The approach in this delightful read is engaging -- a gentle and very direct confrontation with our underlying beliefs about money combined with practical tips for "getting money handled."

I learned from the book and bought two for my daughters.

Here is a book that teaches us the philosophy of handling money wisely. It's not a book about investing, but one about becoming aware of where we spend money, communicating about money with our family, developing empowering financial beliefs, where to find money in our lives, and how to attract more financial abundance.

Audrey Reed has done a fabulous job of making this complex subject (financial belief systems) fun and easy to understand. She also gives practical, easy to follow advice on how to create new daily disciplines in order to get out of debt and enjoy a more stress-free money life.

For those of you who have seen the movie 'Wall-E', you will relate easily to this inspiring book, which teaches us how to realistically save ourselves and the planet we inhabit. Even if you have not seen the movie 'Wall-E' you are probably fully aware by now of the devastating effects our current lifestyles are having on this planet. There are solutions and Jack outlines them in a very clear, precise and inspiring manner in 'The Next Evolution'. We must each take responsibility now for how we live our lives and Jack has done the work by creating the plan for us to implement.

"The Next Evolution" is a Wake-Up Call for people everywhere. We must understand that the Human Race can no longer afford to cling to its present "everyone-for-themselves" mindset. Autho Jack Reed likens Humanity to a dynfunctional family, since it considers the relatively long-term problems of our Ecological and Social Dilemmas to be so scary and overwhelming, that most of us contue to live in a state of denial and disconnectedness regarding the Real World.
Reed explains that those who sit on the Boards of the Print and Broadcast Media all too often are key players in Multinational Corporations that exercise control more powerful than many governments. Through their me-first, profit-driven motivation, "free-enterprise" has come to be equated with "freedom." It is Reed's thesis, that the responsibilty for the success and well-being of the human race is now in our hands, and that is is through a new sense of "Community" that we can not only save Earth's Biosphere, but create the opportunity for all inhabitants of the Planet to lead lives of inspiration and sustainable abundance.
Reed points out the value of establishing prototypical models for Sustainable Communities, which focus on Synergy and Cooperation. Following the visionary concepts of Bucky Fuller he concludes that the only way we can possibly take care of everyone, is through a Design Revolution...a (r)evolution that incorporates the basic principles of Sustainability and Community for the Highest Common Good. In Reed's eyes we are presently facing inevitable environmental disasters and global-scale social upheavals...Grim Legacies, which we must not leave for the generations to come. He highlights the "Twin Towers" of Environmental Destruction and Poverty, presenting his readers with a simple, basic model for sustainability: "The responsibility is in our hands, but we can not depend on nations, politicians, or vested multinationals to make the changes.Instead, we must boldly demonstrate, through Cooperative Communities, how we can not only save our Planet's Environment, but also create the opportunity for everyone to lead inspired and abundant lives." This is a thoughtful, socially responsible and provocative book, based on Social Cooperation and Sustainability, achieved via a Renaissance in Community Consciousness Design. The Next Evolution: A Blueprint For Transforming The Planet by Jack Reed is an original work of vision which encompasses worldwide ecological, political, economic, and cultural realities. Offering revolutionary models for living in harmony and sharing abundance in a manner that will allow the world and all its people to thrive, The Next Evolution is a sweeping and upbeat manifesto of specific methods by which humanity can best transform and enlighten itself. What the readers are offered is quite literally, a prescription that will resolve contemporary social, economic, political, environmental, economic, and social issue concerns that otherwise will threaten the very continuance of humankind on planet Earth.

The essays in "Nothing Sacred" are a great antidote to the simplistic mainstream thinking about the "war on terror" [sic]. From Katha Pollitt's fantastic introduction through all of the various essays, I learned a lot about the feminist perspective on religious fundamentalism.

This collection of essays by scholars and journalists East and West gives a fascinating and detailed picture of the threat every kind of religious fundamentalism poses to women's human rights. But it does more -- it offers fresh ways of understanding the appeal of fundamentalism to men and women both. We think of fundamentalism as ancient -- actually it is a modern response to rapid and uneven social change, including modern roles for women. Karen Amstrong makes this argument in "The Battle for God," but she is mostly interested in theology. I learned more from "Nothing Sacred," because it explicitly describes the worlds from which fundamentalism emerges, the hopes it exploits and the damage it does-- not just in the Muslim world, but in "Christian" America, in Israel, and in India. Wherever religious movements seek to restore a lost and imaginary pristine past, women are the big losers.

Everyone needs to read this book!

This is a really terrific book, confronting some of the most urgent questions in our world today. Is secular feminism a purely Western phenomenon? is religious fundamentalism always at odds with women's equality? should American power be used to free women in other countries, as Bush claimed he was freeing Afghani women from the Taliban? With fundamentalist Islam -- and repression of women -- on the rise in post-war Iraq, and fundamentalist Christians opposed to women's freedom of choice running the USA, the questions this book raises are tragically timely. The authors bring fascinatingly diverse perspectives to the table. Some are strongly committed to the secular, others committed to more humane, egalitarian interpretations of their faith. This book contains writing by some of the sharpest living female intellectuals, and represents a wide range of experiences, political and religious views and nationalities. Betsy Reed has done a wonderful job of culling and shaping this work into a beautifully conversational whole. Katha Pollitt's introduction is, like all her writing, brilliant: elegantly irreverent and clear-headed. Provocative and absorbing -- everyone should find something to disagree with! Buy it now!!!!

Stellar Interstellar Humor

This is a hilarious, well-written, well-drawn book that you won't want to put down.

Both artists are incredible, and a friend of mine who is an art teacher pointed out how the variation in Zach Howard's line weights really made for great contrast on the page. Shawn Murphy's lines are less varied and softer--perfect for the treatment of women or a character like Quinn, and the two styles balance each other out well, so that neither gets overwhelming.

But both styles are gorgeous, fun, and creative. For the reviewer that says one artist is better than the other, I think he's wrong... it's a matter of your preference in styles. My art teacher friend said he liked Zach Howard's work better because he found the variations more interesting. Then he pointed out if you look toward the end of the book, you can see where it looks like each artist was sort of influenced by the other artist's styles so that it gets harder to tell which one is which. I think that shows the artists must be pretty well matched.

The writing will make you laugh out loud and fall in love with the characters. I'm not typically a fan of raunchy humor, and while the book does get risque, I still found it funny and well written. I probably annoyed my seat mates on the plane by laughing out loud so many times, but they'll live. :)

The drawing details are rich and wonderful. You'll want to keep going back and looking for background art that you missed while turning the pages so quickly to see what happens next.

If you have a sense of humor, you'll love this book. Get it. If not, get it anyway. It will help you develop a sense of humor if you don't have one!

An undiscovered classic

Review Date: 2003-08-14
Though Reed suffers from chronic name dropping and repetitive, trite expressions ("inner space" appears at least twice a page), his poetry is as visionary and original as the heroes he worships. It is in the tradition of Rimbaud, the poet as deranged rebel and tortured visionary, and Reed is clearly not pretending. "Outsiders" is one of his most iconoclastic pieces, and perhaps more than any other poem in the collection expresses his credo. It is also, despite very upbeat imaginative trips, very dark material: Reed is not praising the felicities and trivial joys of life so much as reaching for its core in his urgent, existential fashion. Some of the most haunting poems are dedications to his deceased friends who were obviously as committed to his 'live on the edge' philosophy as he is. There is no posturing involved, and it would not surprise me at all if in twenty or thirty years "Reed" is mentioned in the same breath as "Artaud".

Stunning

Despite suffering, ultimately, a bit of classic British reserve, Reed's poetry is quite probably the best currently being produced by anyone, anywhere. While lacking the warmth and humanity of Desnos, for example (clearly one of his major influences), Reed's work is awash with the telltale signs of true genius; from his unrivalled use of color to his ultramodern, up-to-the-minute employment of late-century vernacular, his writing shimmers with a top-to-bottom coherence, imagination, and clarity of thought that no other current poet in my experience can equal. To find another poet of this caliber, you have to journey back to the aforementioned Robert Desnos, circa 1926-45.

Red-Haired Android is my first foray into the world of Jeremy Reed, and in reading his poetry I have discovered a voice for my generation. His vivid use of colour to describe feelings, emotions and surroundings, give words a new meaning. The imagery in his thoughts is astounding. He can create a mental picture using only a few simple words. The passion the Jeremy Reed conveys through his use of language was quickly passed on to me, and this book has been relegated to the 'favourites' shelf in my bookcase. This is a book that is is for anyone. For lovers of poetry and those who have yet to be convinced of its power.

A good collection by a startling voice in poetry.

Jeremy Reed is open and unabashed about his bisexuality, his affection for rock stars, and his fascination with science fiction. All this could, and sometimes does, make surprising, interesting, and superb poetry. Unfortunately, Reed also tends to be repetitive, meandering, and narrow in his focus. Of his sexuality, he has said, "Why be one or the other?" so many times it seems like a mantra or creed rather than a deeply held belief, and this simple piece of rhetoric disbands at one sweep all the interesting possibilities and societal challenges raised by such fluid sexuality. Still, Reed has the ability to delight and surprise his readers as well as the authors he admires most: Artaud, Rimbaud, Ashbery. His tendency to bring science-fiction staples such as androids, robots, and astronomical phenomena into his poems is one that could potentially create a whole new genre: the science fiction poem. Since the best science fiction is that which rises above the level of pulp material, and which also has a tendency to become science fact, perhaps Reed's vision isn't so farfetched as it may seem.

This is quite simply one of the best coming-of-age novels I've ever encountered, especially in its unique explorations of what it feels like to be a young athlete with good but not exceptional ability who has aspirations of stardom. The scenes between Ben and his father are so frank at times they're almost too painful to read. The author is also right on target in each and every relationship he depicts between Ben and a coach or a so-called "male" adviser.

Having grown up in the Cleveland area myself, I was partial to this book right away since it's set in a suburb of Cleveland. That in itself is what made me first pick up the book actually. But I think the story here will appeal to anyone who ever had to endure the trials and torments of adolescence (and of course we all do). Ben Farkas's portrait is painted in soft colors at first, but they soon darken. This turns out to be a very tense, gritty and powerful picture of a boy walking a tightrope across an emotional abyss. When he seemingly makes it safely to the other side at the book's end, it will bring a real sense of satisfaction to just about every reader I have to think. That was certainly true for this reader anyway.

Fantastic novel! I read it once quickly and then had to reread it to savor the exquisite subtleties. It caught the trials and tribulations of a boy growing up in the mid-1950s perfectly. Ben's story brought back the poignancy of my high school years all too clearly: the yearning for those cute coeds that I was too painfully shy to talk to, much less ask for a date, and that secret longing for a mysterious older woman of the world who would initiate me into the wonders of manhood. Well done.

Nemec is one the most unappreciated fiction writers we have. Every one of his books is gutsy and passionate and full of strange twists. This book combines accurate, unsentimental pictures of growing up in the 50's in tight concentric circles with the drama and risk of breaking out of those circles into manhood.

Being born in 1970, I missed out on the natural men of the 70's. I can remember crushes on the natural looking men of the era, but was much to young to realize the erotic value or to even see many nude. This book showcases the wonderful men of a time that I missed out on! The average, but very hot, bodies of Blakey's models are wonders of real life and not the bulked up gym bunnies so overwhelmingly predominant in art photography of recent years. The photos are extremely well done with a variety of types of men from street looking to professionals...all with a relaxed and casual attitude that shows through in the pictures. I enjoy this book a lot and will surely be going back to look at it repeatedly many times in the future!

As Roy Blakey states in his forward, "BLAKEY'S RESURRECTION, just at first glance, might have made an arresting title for this book of male nudes, or perhaps the even more intimate "ROY'S RESURRECTION," and he further states, "Nevertheless, I definitely have been resurrected." He thanks photographer Reed Massengill, now a close friend, who helped him to secure a gallery exhibition and with the publication of this book. These male nude images from the 1970's have been stored away for many years. If you were coming-of-age in the 70's, you may be familiar with Blakey's work and the publication HE. I think it's great that his work is being exhibited, published and now is being introduced and made available to a whole new generation.

If you liked the look of the men in the 70's, you will likely enjoy these photographs as much as I did. They bring back many memories of that era, the long hair, the light bodies, the innocent looks and poses, and good-looking boy next door type male models. I think these photographs are beautiful for the simple reason that Blakey is a "Master of Light and Shadow." All of these black and white images are posed with no props. I believe the starkness of these images make the models more intimately sensual. Roy Blakey was a former professional figure skater and as you view these photographs you can clearly see the influence that this has had in the way he posed his models.

If the publication of this book is a dream come true for Blakey, then it is a dream come true for us as avid fans and collectors of male nude photography! I sincerely hope he continues to browse through his storage boxes and releases more of his photographic images for us to enjoy. A stunning collection!

I am excited that this book is available. I can remember when I saw some of my first artistic photographs of men in the 1970''s. The men were "perfection", and the images were those of people who represented the idealized man of the time. Awe struck by those pictures, an entire generation of men proceeded to redefine the male image and liberate the American male from the constraints of the generations that preceeded that generation. As a 20-something in 1970, I was permitted to redefine my concept of masculinity, and the images of Blakey helped to solidify that concept. I adore this book. I wish there was more of Blakey's work available.

What a refreshing addition to the study of male nude photograpy! The men have nice, natural bodies without being "buffed and waxed." And believe it or not, they have hair, both on their heads--some actually have tresses to their shoulders-- and bodies. For that reason they look very 70's. They also look very innocent and appear to be having a good time. Some of them smile directly into the camera. I couldn't help but ask the question though-- there is no information given about who these models are-- as to how many of them are still alive today.

All the photos are shot in a studio with incredible lighting. Some of my favorites are found on pages 53,54 and 104.

Reed Massengill, who edited this book, remembers the first time he saw a Blakey photo in a short-lived magazine of the 70's called "After Dark." I remember fondly my first enconter with that magazine as well. I still have all my copies somewhere. (It was the rag that the now Governor of California chose for his full monty spread.) Mr. Blakey to his credit was shooting male nudes when almost nobody else in the U. S. was. This book, however, is much more than just a nostalgic picture of life before the awful 80's. These beautiful photographs will endure.

This book is for those of you out there who are yearning to go a little more out there in your explorations, truly challenge your thinking, and are ready for a major shift into the true joy of your life.

Written by wisdom teacher Sri Ram Kaa and angelic oracle Kira Raa, Sacred Union is a journey and dialogue of total transformation. Rather than presenting themselves as the ones, with the one right way, we travel along with them on their path of self-discovery, transformation, and stepping into their shoes of healing and teaching. We meet Kira Raa when she is "Shakira" at a cross roads in her life, facing her second bankruptcy and going through a lot of things that many of us will relate to. Her commitment to her own unfolding is inspiring, and we are there with her in spirit as she questions the new direction her life is taking as a channeler of an archangelic being, like any of us would, and is able to come to a place of acceptance and surrender with the help and support of her partner in sacred union Sri Ram Kaa.

Reiki master, minister, and psychotherapist Sri Ram Kaa (formerly Jerrold) meets his future flame over the internet, and the two immediately hit it off. They do spiritual work together, and go through some of the normal things all couples go through, especially after failed marriages, multiple career paths, and in our society. He too must come to a place of acceptance and surrender to the bliss their life will soon embrace.

When Kira Raa begins channeling Zadkiel, Sri Ram Kaa asks the questions we all want to ask: give me a sign that this is real, is she psychotic, what will this all mean? The core of Zadkiel's message is that peace, love and joy are available right now, in this instant, and that what we perceive as lengthy, painful, and time consuming processing for working through our problems is unnecessary, and in fact, entrenches us more deeply into a belief of their reality. Freedom, true freedom, is a choice, and we make it every second.

As the book progresses we see the visits of Zadkiel not only transforming these two lives, but offering us information and a new way of being for our own lives. Their example, a and their success in becoming who they envisioned being, is not only inspiring, but personally empowering. They don't claim to have the answer, but one way of awakening deeper, and in practical terms, how to actually bring more joy and balance into our lives, from suggestions on what to eat, how to be, and most importantly, how to see the world, the universe, and ourselves as we really are.

Beyond being another new age tome for healing your life, this book engages us, challenges us, and frees us from our own preconceptions and blocks to reality. We are rocketed into what they call the 5th dimension, while being real people.

After reading the authors' 2nd book " 2012, Archangelic Answers", I ordered this one and pretty much ate it up. It's about their own spiritual awakenings, finding their highest work, communing with their guides and finding each other, all of which are interconnected.

Written in two voices, the honesty about their feelings in the early days of their relationship is poignant and striking, and for the story factor alone, it's engrossing. Woven into their story is continuous commentary from a third voice, the Archangel Zadkiel, who guides and chats with them like an old friend.

For anyone on a conscious path of their own, this is a super-inspiring read whether you are ready to meet your own "beloved" or deepen communion with an existing one...or for anyone interested in the fascinating, arduous path these two spiritually-developed people have taken.

I finished reading it two days ago and it's lingering with me...very affecting!

Sacred Union is much more than Sexual Union!

Sacred Union - The Journey Home, by Sri Ram Kaa and Kira Raa, their official, spiritual and legal names, is an extraordinary book. The book is really dangerous, beware! It will change your outlook for the rest of your life. Anyway, don't worry! Nothing happens by chance. If you are reading this book review and then buy the book, you are ready. To go on board a vessel that would take you on the most important journey ever undertaken by you, viz., to discover your true authentic self.

In eleven chapters, spread over 4 sections, the two authors and their spiritual friend, philosopher and guide, Archangel Zadkiel, Kiel for friends like us, reaffirm many of the spiritual truths. The journey home is turning towards our real self and seeing our ego to be what it is, our shadow, which we have been following. When we turn towards light, the shadow goes behind us and thus follows us, not leading us!

We accept every soul as divine since it contains the same essential divine spark as all of us. There is nothing which is not divine, which is not perfect. Even the worst, ugliest thing in the world has a role to play, if nothing else, to remind us that both Good and Evil, Beautiful and Ugly are two faces of a coin and knowing that every coin has two sides is the Sacred Union.

Through Kira Raa's mouth and recorded by Sri Ram Kaa, Archangel Zadkiel, (OK, OK, I understand that you want to be referred as Kiel), guides the reader gently, lovingly and yet firmly, to the truth. And the message that comes through is clear: Trust, trust in your true authentic self. If doubts come, ask yourself, does it give joy? If yes, do it. If not, don't. Simple isn't it? The joy that Kiel is referring to is not the temporary pleasure of sensual nature. Joy is Bliss, it is eternal.

The book touched me to the core of my heart at places and made me cry. We all feel the pain of separation, separation from the beloved, which is our true Self. And the Sacred Union is not just Sexual Union, though Sexual Union too could lead to the Sacred Union. In Sanskrit, the word Yoga is the closest to what Sri Ram Kaa, Kira Raa and Kiel are trying to convey. Yoga is related to Yoke, the cross bar that makes two oxen to go in unison to plough the field. Thus Yoga unifies two. Sacred Union, like marriage, also unifies two bodies and souls into one or makes the individual ego-soul one with the Higher Self from which it emanated.

If you are interested in spirituality, if you are interested in the journey of self-discovery, and if you are ready to undertake a journey which can only end in the 'death' or 'dissolution' of 'you' (ego), go ahead and buy the book. Read and re-read. Follow the diet etc., if moved by heart. Do the exercises given as Appendix.

I heartily recommend this book for true seekers.

Sacred Union is a book of living a more authentic life and happiness. It conveys a way to live as a couple with greater clarity and understanding. It shows us of what and where we are supposed to be in our lives and how to achieve it. I found myself relating to their tale of meeting, as my husband and I met the same way. This book helped me know I wasn't alone or crazy, for loving someone so completely in such a short time.

As you read Sacred Union you will be lead to see life in a different way. It brings the meaning of what we are meant to do and who we are meant to be in a different, and unique way. The authors have written this book with love and compassionate they experienced through enlightenment.

Much of the book is filled with translations of Archangel Zadkeil. He helps the authors understand how they should be living. The authors through their love for everyone wrote this book.

This book teaches readers how to have greater joy, of how to simplify their difficult lives. It illustrates the power of healing and love, and how to love your mate deeper then ever before. Sri Ram Kaa and Kira Raa dedicate their lives to teaching others of self ascension. Their book is second in a series, with more to come. They offer workshops and retreats in hopes of helping others to experience Sacred Uinion.

After reading this book it has improved my relationship with my husband. The authors reassured me through their words, that I'm with who I'm meant to be with and I'm truly blessed to have the joy I do. Also, in my search for authentic living this book taught, I've began living my life differently. I'm able to experience the joy and feelings of belonging, for the first time in my life. I anxiously await the next in their series.
