Thayne Davidson Miller, III, is, to his way of thinking, the very self-embodiment of "the poor little rich kid." As the only child of billionaire parents, he has been afforded every advantage in life except one - the ability to actually be a child and do the things other children do every day. His parents take him with them wherever they go, and he has already mastered such subjects as law and medicine by the time he becomes a teenager, but he hates being isolated and allowed to interact with only a few select adults. Life as he has always known it changes irrevocably on the day of his thirteenth birthday, however, when both of his parents are killed by terrorists.
After a year of mourning and isolation alongside his only friends (Jacque, his "gentleman's gentleman," and his dog Chopsie) Thayne is determined to do what any other teenager would be doing - attending school with students his own age. Not just any old school will do, of course; it has to be a school where his advanced intellect is allowed to soar. While he considers the Scorsos International Academy and University, it's really a foregone conclusion that he will choose GODA (Global Optimum Development Academy) on the island of Demeverde, for it and the mysterious man who runs it played an important part in his parents' lives. GODA is much more than a mere school - even calling it an academy of learning is to do it a disservice. Only the best and brightest are accepted there, each with a special talent all his/her own, and learning is an active, all-encompassing endeavor.
With his parents' killers still unidentified, Thayne's personal safety is paramount, so he can't enroll as the famous Thayne Davidson Miller, III - in fact, Thayne really can't leave home at all. Fortunately, one of his family's businesses is able to build a lifelike robot to assume the role of Thayne, while "Arnie Carver" jets off to Demeverde. He quickly makes the first real friends of his life and loves the challenges and opportunities the school provides for him. His new life would be ideal were it not for a rare and terrible sickness that comes to be associated with the island. At first, it's just a child here and there across the globe that becomes sick, each of them having visited Demeverde at some point in the previous couple of years. When the disease strikes one of Arnie's friends, however, the Demeverde connection can no longer be dismissed out of hand. That's when Arnie and his friends set out to discover the source of the plague for themselves.
Undoubtedly, Arnie Carver and the Plague of Demeverde will be compared with the Harry Potter series. After all, you have these extraordinary kids going away to this extraordinary school to learn extraordinary things, they play an invented game called coca that elicits the same sort of excitement as Quidditch, and the main character is a young protagonist with a dark history that robbed him of his parents and perpetually dangles a potentially deadly threat over his own young head. Arnie Carver isn't Harry Potter, though, and this novel forges a story that is really quite its own.
I loved the book. Thayne is a wonderful, sympathetic character, and I warmed up to his new friends and classmates just as quickly as he did. The wonderful technologies employed at GODA are a treat to visualize, and I have to believe older children and young adults will find such extraordinary things as SlipDiscs fascinating. I would even go so far as to call the book inspirational - were I a couple of decades younger, this is just the kind of story that would have gotten my intellectual juices flowing. It never hurts to see true friendship put on display in front of you, either.
On top of everything else, author Kenneth R. Besser lays a solid foundation for future books in the series, leaving us to wonder what the real story behind the unsolved murder of Thayne's parents' might be, question the motives of the man behind Scorsos International Academy and University, and yearn to know more about Unius, the mysterious, seemingly all-knowing, head of GODA. This has all the makings of a great series.

Arnie Carver and the Plague of Demeverde is the well-told tale of a boy named Thayne Davidson Miller III, a genius and the heir to a fortune. He's the richest kid in the world, who has everything in the world, but needs "to learn how to be a part of the world."
After his parents are murdered, early on in the book, young Thayne has his chance. Although grief-stricken by their deaths, he is looking forward to a few changes in his life. For the first time ever he is now allowed to attend classes (under the assumed name Arnie Carver) with other kids - although the school he chooses turns out to be quite different from the schools you and I are familiar with!
Besser writes with the confident ease of a good storyteller. The wit, the humor, the adventures, and the legal hi-jinx will delight precocious young readers and teens. Combining elements of sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, and political thriller, the author at times seems to parody these genres as he relates the adventures of his young hero. And because of that it's a book that adults can enjoy as well.
By the end of this first in a series of books, the bright young protagonist has not only become a part of the world, he has helped to save it. But there is still more for him to do and discover, and I can't wait to find out what will happen next!

Have you ever thought it would be terrific if you had all the money that you ever wanted to have? Can you imagine not having to wait until Christmas or your birthday for presents? For some kids, this would be a dream come true. But Thayne Davidson Miller, III, doesn't think it is very much fun. Instead of being a blessing, it is a curse.
Thayne is constantly being surrounded by security guards. Thayne's parents are billionaires, so having a normal lifestyle as a young boy is impossible. He is a normal boy who would enjoy playing soccer or football with other boys, climbing trees or just hanging out with his friends. Instead he has to fly on his parents' jet to all kinds of far-off places. It's not like he gets to see anything when he goes to these other cities. He is constantly being watched.
When Thayne turns thirteen, his life takes a drastic turn. He has now inherited the 50 businesses that his parents owned. He is an orphan! The murders are unsolved, so Thayne takes the matter into his own hands. He attempts to discover what really happened to his parents.
He has a very brilliant mind and uses it to his advantage. He creates a life-like robot and a personality to live out his dreams of being normal. Arnie Carver is born. Will this make Thayne any happier or only add to his misery?
Kenneth R. Besser is a master at storytelling. "Arnie Carver and the Plague of Demeverde" is just one of a series about Arnie Carver. The twists and turns throughout the story will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Books like this, with its science-fiction twist, will have kids anxiously awaiting their next Arnie Carver book.
Is being wealthy really worth it all or is it a sure fire way to ruin your life?

Part of the beloved Arnie Carver series of novels for young adults, Arnie Carver and the Plague of Demeverde follows the adventures of Arnie Carver, once Thayne Davidson Miller III. The child prodigy of billionaires, he hated how airtight family security protected him at the expense of keeping him away from other children his own age and everything a child might want to do. But on his thirteenth birthday, he became a billionaire orphan when terrorists allegedly killed his parents. No evidence of Thayne's parents' supposed murderers could be found, though - what really happened to them? To solve the mystery, and experience life unsheltered if not entirely unprotected, Thayne replaced himself with a lifelike robot and took on a new alter-ego, attending an international high school named the Global Optimum Development Academy as Arnie Carver. Just as Arnie gets settled in, a deadly disease starts plaguing the island and the school - what could be causing it, and why? A gung-ho adventure featuring a young protagonist who respects schools and books as well as learning through experience, sure to engage young readers to the very last page.

To those around him in this futurist world of cool gadgets, Thayne Davison Miller III has it all. His parents are the richest people in the world. He travels around the world, and best of all, he is dearly loved. The one thing missing from his life is being around kids his own age. That might sound like a simple thing to ask, but Thayne isn't your average kid. Kidnapping is a real threat and his parents fear for his safety to the extreme degree. So his parents with the help of Jacques Marquis, Thayne's man servant and only friend, decided long ago on home schooling.
On his thirteenth birthday, what was meant to be a delightful surprise turned tragic as Thayne's parents were assassinated on the way to his birthday party. With the exception of his beloved dog and friend, Jacques, he is all alone in the world, but with an added problem. The killer or killers were never caught. He too could be a target.
Thayne devises a plan to set a trap for the people responsible for killing his parents. He sends a life like double called an intellitron as decoy to the local school. In the meantime, the real Thayne attends the Global Optimum Development Academy on the island of Demeverde under the name of Arnie Carver.
Just as Arnie and his friends settle in for the school year, a mysterious and deadly disease plagues the school. At first, no one believes the disease is related to the island until one of Arnie's classmates comes down with it. Now it is up to Arnie and his friends to find out what is causing this disease. And if they do, will it be in time enough to find a cure for Arnie's friend? Kenneth R. Besser kept me guessing until the very end as it should be!
This colorful cast of children with special abilities, keeps the story upbeat and smiling. One of my favorites is Steven "Tinker" Schocken. He has a special knack of fixing things. Then there is Bernadette Rogers who senses what people are feeling. That's not all. With her mind, she can get you to see things her way, unless you know how to mentally block her. (Way cool!) Another unusual person in the book is Choi Guihah, who has an uncanny ability to do things with her muscles, which includes making a soft landing from twenty feet. These are but a few of the characters making this a truly appealing story.

This is a wonderful collection of treasures from B.B. King's lengthy career. Besides telling the man's life story, this book provides the reader with ticket stubs to B.B. concerts from fifty years ago, all sorts of crystal-clear photographs of B.B. and other Bluesmen, and other amazing treasures. I picked this up for ten dollars at a local mall, and I can't recommend it enough. It's truly moving and captivating to see how a young black man from Mississippi has become the international ambassador of the Blues and has won all sorts of awards from prestigious universities and institutions. This man is living the American Dream.

B.B.KING IS CALLED "THE KING OF THE BLUES" BUT THIS BOOK IS NOT ABOUT THE BLUES THIS IS ABOUT THE MAN HIMSELF FROM HIS HUMBLE BEGINNING AS A SHARECROPPER TO THE LEGEND HE IS TODAY. THIS BOOK DIGS DEEP INTO THE HEART AND SPIRIT OF "THE MAN" THE PHOTOS AND THE MEMORIES ALONG IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE BOOK. IF YOU LOVED THE BLUES AND YOU KNOW OR LOVED B.B.KING THEN THIS IS THE ULTIMATE BOOK TO HAVE. AFTER READING THIS BOOK I KNOW MORE ABOUT THE LIFE OF B.B.KING THEN I EVER KNEW. IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS MAN WHO IS A LEGEND IN HIS OWN TIME CAN BE SO HUMBLE TO THE MANY PEOPLE BOTH FAMOUS AND ORDINARY

Hello all! I am from India, residing in Singapore. I enjoy listening to blues. Being a big fan of BB, i couldn't resist this treasure when i came across it at the Borders bookstore. The book is great, with replicas of tickets etc. 1 hour cd with BB's interviews and 2 songs is a great treat. BB is an inspiration, having moved from cottonfields to become world's greatest blues singer. Just wait for the clouds, and read this with a cup of coffee when it starts to rain. When you finish with the accompanying cd, put in your own BB collection and read the book along. Lucille won't let you down. The thrill isn't gone afterall! 5 stars indeed.
A must read for blues fans...

Though possibly a bit unlike adults my age, I am a bonafide blues lover and THE B. B. KING TREASURES: Photos, Mementos & Music from B. B. King's Collection is a remarkable look into the background and life of legendary blues singer B. B. King. In it he details his early childhood and growing up on a farm, to his young adult days, touring various parts of the country and his candid views on segregation and the Civil Rights era.
While the book itself is a wonderful collector's item and can be displayed proudly as a coffee table book, the best parts to me were: the included CD which has a collection of interviews with the singer, as well as two unreleased songs, the numerous pull-outs of old letters, photos, programs and posters, and the respect he shared with and bestowed upon others. THE B. B. KING TREASURES succinctly depicts the life and times of B. B. King, his thoughts on many issues, including race relations, and especially music. It is perfect for the blues lover in your life and a great tribute for B.B. King's 80th birthday celebration.

THE B. B. KING TREASURES succinctly depicts the life and times of B. B. King, his thoughts on many issues, including race relations, and especially music. It is perfect for the blues lover in your life and a great tribute for B.B. King's 80th birthday celebration.

Those looking for a present for a blues lover (or themselves) could do far worse than purchasing an absolutely wonderful new coffee table book plus more devoted to the King of the blues. The B. B. King Treasures : Photos, Mementos & Music from B. B. King's Collection is by King, Dick Waterman and Charles Sawyer. Sawyer, who wrote the first book-length biography of King, The Arrival of B.B. King, contributes a concise biography from King's days growing up in Mississippi to his days as an ambassador for the music. The remainder of the book is filled with King's recollections as given to Dick Waterman who supplements these recollections of growing up, working on the farm, moving to memphis, touring and crossing over. There are not only some terrific photographs (many are very rare), but also some reproductions of memorabilia including his sharecropping account from 1940, mostly tickets, programs and posters for his shows, along with sheets shoqwing how much he was earning prior to Sid Seidenberg taking over King's management in the late sixties. You can see him from his WDIA days to receiving the musical equivalent of the Nobel Prize in Sweden with the King of Sweden handing the award to him. In addition there is a cd with King's verbal recollections and some unissued tracks. This is a multi-media feast for fans of one of the true legends of world music. Compiled in part to celebrate his 80th birthday, The B.B. King Treasures, is a treasure.

I bought this for a friend who has never quilted, but had an idea of a landscape quilt in her head. After reading it, I realized that this is just the right book to start-jump a "newbie" from the starting point to where ever her imagintation will take her. Also, after reading it I am buying another copy for myself. I quilt and do some art quilts also, and this book gave me many wonderful ideas. . Although this is the last book in the Saddle Club series, it is not the last book about the Saddle Club themselves. If you want to read more about the Saddle Club, read the Pine Hollow series.
The Pine Hollow series is about the Saddle Club when they are around 15 years old. And Lisa is dating Stevie's brother Alex. Ewe!!! Talk about disturbing.

This ends the Saddle Club series. Carole, Stevie and Lisa have been invited to attend a horse show, along with their rival, the snooty Veronica diAngelo. However, none of them can afford Christmas gifts AND the show fees. Their dilemma is resolved in "Gift of the Magi" fashion. Drama comes when they are trapped inside Pine Hollow due to a freak snowstorm and must care for themselves and the horses. But of course, all turns out well in the end.

As far as I can tell this is the last book in the series. Overall it was very predicatable but a warm and fun read. The Saddle Club is extremely short on money so they all think that they will be unable to attend an important horse show in the Carolinas. However in the end they all help each other out during Christmas.
I think that anyone wanting a successful completion to the series will like this book as it really shows the friendship that all of the books had been centered on.

For whatever reason, I felt the urge to reread my Black Stallion books, including The Black Stallion Mystery. Filled with the usual perils such as Alec almost getting killed by a wild bull in Spain to he and Henry dropped off in the middle of nowhere. Three yearlings sent to America catch the eyes of Henry and Alec and cause them to wonder if their sire was also the Black's dead sire. Their first destination is Spain with Angel Gonzalez as their host who then takes them by plane to desert country and flies off, leaving them behind. After a long journey they, with the Black's help, find their way to their new host and hostess, who turn out to be Abd-al-Rahman and his wife Tabari whom we had met in The Black Stallion Returns. As the story continues, Abd talks Alec into riding on the Black to find his sire, Ziyadah. After many fruitless nights' search, Alec is about to give up but his host talks him into going once more on his own, and that is when Alec sees the horse with a shimmering cloak of orange, blue and red fire. When he finally finds the horse itself, he finds the once-playful Tabari has grown to a woman wanting revenge for the death of her father, ben Ishak, by killing the Black. How tragic when her shot does not kill the Black, but Ziyadah. A book far removed from horse racing, we instead get another glimpse of desert life and an absorbing mystery. While I missed the usual horse races in the Black Stallion books, this was still full of mystery and adventure.

Taking the reader to exotic lands and throwing in the proverbial "red herring" kept my students absorbed the entire time. Great read!

after reading it, i found that it was really good all the way through apart from the ending could have been a bit better because it really lead you up to something but the tension, i felt, could have been held better!
i would still reccomend this book to people at the age of 13+

When Henry and Alec check out some yearlings they are shocked to see a very strong resemblance to the Black. So they question if the Blacks Sire could still be a live, but they were told by Abu (Blacks Original owner) that his father had died years ago in Arabia. The temptation that the Blacks father is still a live is too much for them. So they decided to head abroad to the man who sold the Yearlings and see if it is true. The Storyline has interesting twists and turns and Alec meets people who he hasn't seen in years. The book is quite fast paced and is probably one of the best Black Stallion books.

This is a great routine and the book is an easy-read that I found quite motivating. I was a bit discouraged, however, when I discovered how long the exercises actually take. It takes me 30 minutes to complete the "8-minute" routines. I would have actually felt more motivated had I been more adequately prepared to allow for the necessary time. That said, I commend Joyce for this book, which also includes a chapter on diet and a chapter on aerobic exercise. I am very encouraged that I may be able to prevent osteoporosis, and am recommending this book to my mom, who was recently diagnosed.

I bought the hardcover edition of this book used from Amazon and am very pleased with it. This is a very readable book, with most things clearly explained. When I say 'most', I mean that I still have questions as to WHY the pyramid method works better than other methods, and I also think it should be explained WHY the exact order of the workout matters (by body part, not by specific individual exercises within a body-part group). I am confused too because other books say to constantly vary your routine or to even change it completely every other week, where-as this book says that you must follow this exact routine every time. Aside from those points of confusion, the explanatory material is quite good. The work-out itself is excellent, and well suited to the woman who prefers a good at-home dumb-bell workout. Joyce must have the routine memorized, and do it without any rest periods at super-speed in order to finish within the time she says it will take. I have the extra time to put into it, so that is not a problem. If your goal is to build bone to prevent osteoporosis, this is a great program, or even if you just want to have a nice dumb-bell routine to build strength and re-shape, I also recommend it.
Easy-to-read book with a good workout, and eating advice.

This workout is great, although you may want to do ALL the designated warm-up exercises at the beginning of the workout, in order to avoid wasting time picking up and putting down the dumbbells between sections. If you do this I think it would be much easier to get the workout time down to where the book claims it should be.
I own The 12-Minute Total Body Workout book, and in one respect, this book is better in that it contains a photo chart of all the exercises involved, which "12-Minute" does NOT have. I recommend that you buy a copy of this book, make a copy of the chart, then cut it up and paste each exercise onto index cards, so that you can mix up the order of the exercises every few weeks or so, as well as putting the warmups at the beginning of the workout.
Both books are great.

I bought this book because I have the 12-minute Total Body Workout by Vedral and I wanted to see if she had updated her excercises. I was very pleased with this book, the exercises are easy to learn and they work! However, there is no way you can do it in 8 minutes a day without sacrificing proper movement and form. Plan on spending between 15 and 20 minutes per day for four days, 30-40 minutes per day for two days, or about 1 1/2 hours for one day. In the 12-Minute book, you did 2 body parts, 2 exercises each, for 3 reps. In this book, it's 3 body parts, at least 3 exercises each, 3 reps each plus stretching. How on earth did she think you could do it in 8 minutes?

Brendan Behan's memoir of his time incarcerated in England , is a comical, sympathetic and humanistic work of art. As a young IRA member arrested in Liverpool at the age of 16 in possession of explosives he demonstrated a remarkably fatalistic viewpoint for someone so young and seemed to take in the experience as an observant participant in a human drama without a hint of self pity.
As he begins in a remanded prison before his transfer to London and ultimately to a Borstal (reform school) he meets with a variety of characters both fellow prisoners and "screws" or guards and they populate his story that also includes incredibly detailed descriptions of the routine of a life behind bars.
Behan became famous as a playwright and notorious drinker in his later years and died tragically young apparently from years of heavy drinking. He is a writer of great insight and power and should not be missed by anyone interested in Irish literature.

I was epecting something a little more politically polemic or bleak, but this account is hysterically funny and inspired. Behan's writing is always vital, his grasp of dialogue perfect, but this novel enjoys a pacing brilliance I dared not hope from a playwright. Most dramatists have trouble with narrative prose because the rhythms are different, but not so with this account of his jail time as an adolescent in England.

This autobiographical account of Brendan Behan's arrest and imprisonment from 1939 until around 1943 in a British Borstal (youth correctional facility)is an outstanding piece of literature.
There are four primary strenghts to this great work.
First, the language is witty, charming, and creative. I found the mixture of Irish and British male adolescent working class slang to be musical and amusing. Behan had a wonderful sense of dialogue and the manner in which young men verbally duel with each other, striving for rank and dominance and friendship.
Second, the story is unique. A 17 year old IRA terrorist is arrested and sent to a youth facility full of adolescent petty criminals. The worlds of incarcerated vs. free; adult vs. adolescent; Catholic vs. Protestant; Irish vs. English: and criminal vs. political prisoner are just a few of the wonderful tensions and juxtapositions that Behan creates.
Third, is Behan's slow pace and ability to observe the most remote details, describe them uniquely, and then weave these streams of images together to create a world and to populate it with characters that ring true with every word.
Fourth, the story is a tremendous testament to the goodness of mankind. Underneath the tensions, the rivalry, the ideology, the story reveals the simple common kindness of mankind. Brendan Behan may have evoked this kindness through his own exceptional openness and acceptance of his fellowman or he may have observed this kindness through this insightful but possibly biased vision of the innate goodness of mankind; but, none the less, his faith in our sometimes distorted and crippled species shines through the autobiography like a beacon of hope.
I wish I could have given more than 5 stars to this superb work. Don't rush through this book. Let Behan take you into his experiences and his kind view of the world of man.

There are several excellent reviews for this title, so I won't attempt to reinvent the wheel with mine.
The best I can say is that with each page of this incredible book, I find myself closer to a person I never thought I'd like, let alone truly love.
When all is said and done, Brendan Behan is not about The Cause or The Revolution or liberalism or conservatism or anything. Brendan is a human being, in it for Brendan and his best interests. But don't let this make you think that he is a selfish being. Quite the contrary... Brendan finds the humanity in others, far away from the propaganda and agendas he's been fed since infancy. And in that, Brendan finds the humanity in himself.
He's been gone now for... well, longer than I care to believe. But in this, his most powerful and insightful work, he speaks to an audience that is far from outdated, saying the things he feels and believes, with an honesty that most of us wish we had, but work far too hard to conceal. His candidness speaks to our deepest secrets, and opens up a self-awareness in those who wish to explore it.
I am an avid reader, 40 years and going... and I count this as my single favorite book. That is not a distinction given lightly.
Brendan Behan may not be here now, but his message of humanity and humor and growth is ageless. I can only hope that more people take a moment to read it.

Jake Holt, expert on gathering information. [where is his story].
Jordan Cross, secret CIA agent and member of Cabot's special team.
Carl Steiner, now head of the Team but can he be trusted.
He is intent on closing down the Team.
Hawk's kill was not sanctioned so Steiner wants him brought in.
Ah now, the other players.
Tyler Stewart, 38 year old model, glitzey, beautiful and broke.
Her agent destroyed her security.
Enter Amir al-Ahmad, wealthy, handsome play-boy. He is determined to marry Tyler.
Malcolm Truett, Amir's secretary gives Tyler the pass key to his room.

I enjoyed the book. Ms. Wilson made sure there were no holes in her plot, I appreciate that respect for the reader. The hero and heroine came just shy of touching my heart though. It's a pity because after the intro, I really wanted to know them better. But instead I followed their mystery to their happily ever after without being convinced that these two deserved to (and would) beat the odds.

I really enjoyed 'The Bride's Protector'- what a wonderful tale! I enjoy romance novels(my favorite type of books!), but this one was an extra special treat! I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I was hoping to have the story continue on, actually.
The basic plot is that on her hastily arranged wedding day, bride and former model Tyler Stewart has serious second, third, and fourth thoughts about marrying her sheikh playboy millionaire fiance. She finally decides that even though she's supposed to marry within the hour, she can't go through with it and must talk it out with him instead.
Rushing to his hotel suite to talk to him(he's supposed to be meeting up with his father who is attending the ceremony amid threats of assasination attempts), she walks in on a murder. The killers, having seen her are now after her, and her only hope is the strange man whose hotel room she 'borrows' to hide out.
Right from the start she knows that there is more to him that she can see and she never gets the whole story about him until almost the end of the book, but that doesn't stop her from trusting him and falling in love with the man she only comes to know as "Hawk".
Luccas Hawkins-'Hawk'- is in fact a government assassin who at the start of the story avenges the death of his colleague and boss. He's very good at his job and he's an incredibly dangerous and tortured man with a very bad past and no one in his life he cares about anymore except for the other members of the covert team he used to work with on operations. But while on the run with Tyler, he finds himself drawn to her and falling in love. She thinks of him as her white knight. He knows better and comes to hate the day when he'll have to tell her who he really is what he does.
Hawk is one of the most compelling heros I've ever read about(I loved him!) and Tyler is great heroine for him. She's a real woman with spirit and depth. I think Ms. Wilson developed her characters very well.
This started out as a trilogy(The Bride's Protector, The Stranger She Knew, and His Secret, Her Child) and I read them out of order because of what became available at the library. I loved all of them and am now reading the rest of the books in the lineup(Men Of Mystery/Phoenix Brotherhood), but this one is my favorite! A really great read!

Absolutely a page turner. Unfortunately, I will also judge other Harlequin Intrigue novels to Gayle Wilson's work. I could not put the book down and actually felt like I was there with Tyler and Hawk. Great story! I didn't feel like I was just reading sentences, but I could feel the story. I have read other Harlequin Intrigue novels and although they were good, Gayle Wilson's has been the best. I wish there had been more of these gentlemen to write about in her trilogy.

The sequel is even better! Too bad i can't give it six stars! As the world struggles for survival in an epoch of pain and war, storm clouds cover the horizon. The Bringer Of Storms is coming... and with him and dark host bent on locking the land of Kirthanin in shadow forever. The plot deepens as the Light, the Darkness, and all who are trapped in between seek to survive the coming war.
Not just any fantasy book, believe me, I have read enough boring cliche fantasy to know when I pick up a jewel. And BOS is definitely a gem in my book collection.

My family hates when I read a book like this--no meals are made...the clutter builds up--so I did a marathon read of this second book in the series and truly enjoyed the characters and the story. There are strong action sequences plus real depth of character development. This book will appeal to both male and female readers who enjoy fantasy, including those who love Tolkien.
Not all fantasy novels are foul language free. This one is. The love relationships spare us graphic details, too. There is violence (it is about a war, after all) with some details, but not to the point of gratuitous violence.
The best thing is that there is richness, depth, to the story. You not only care about the characters and the outcome of the story, but the book goes deeper than that--to the heart. I can't wait until my next weekend OFF, so that I can read the next book in the series

This novel continues the story began in Beyond the Summerland and takes the threat to Kirthanin to the next level! The ramifications of a certain stunning event at the end of the first book is the driving force behind the lives of the characters some eighteen years in the future. City rises against city in the search for justice, while many others are affected by the long struggle. The truly dangerous enemies use this to their advantage and then a massive threat breaks loose-- causing an even more critical confrontation. The Bringer of Storms and the armies of the enemy arise! This book also ends with a shock and I am sure the ramifications of what happened will be felt throughout book three. This story should flow into the next book without too much of a time gap, as the conflict that was pressing, was not fully resolved.
The only slight mar to the book is the same as I mentioned about the first one, which is that some of the dialogue seems too modern at times. Mom and dad, instead of mother and father, and similar things that just didn't feel "medieval" enough. This is a very minor concern, though, and is very subjective. I am definitely looking forward to book three in this great series! Buy the first two-- you won't be sorry!

LB Graham added deeper character development in his second book. The characters are interesting, and the story flows better. Very strong new writer. Looking forward to book three. I have already pre-ordered.
