This is a must have book if you own a 1965-89 911. I found the book to be as detailed as a shop manual on the subjects it covers yet with the friendly writing that anyone can comprehend.

This book covers the basics like changing your oil to more complex tasks like fixing common oil leaks and fixing various transmission problems. -all with many excellent photos of the procedures outlined.

I've read and referred to this book countless times both for enjoyment and for reference to maintain my Porsche.

I was trying to learn SQL and database basic. I have been looking to several different books and I was lacking a book that would systematicaly explain data base and SQL basics. This is the book. Chapters regarding Data Retrival are just right, not to short and not to long. Just right.

I recomend the book to somebody that would like to learn SQL and DB2 basics.

I used this book to write Exam 704 (Advance DB2 UDB DBA certification). I cleared the exam with flying colors.
I consider this book as DB2 UDB Bible. This is one of the some good books on DB2 UDB.
Also recommend to DBAs who are not preparing for certification since it covers almost all the aspects of DB2 database.

A student review of the Glaser's work

As an engineering student, good group and personal communication skills are essential for my success in the future. I recently attended a fantastic and educational two day seminar with the Glasers. Their expert skills as communicators not only makes their material fun to read, but offer outlines that are easy to follow for creating a successful presentation. Although these outlines are simple, they have a powerful affect on your communication skills if they are followed.

This summer I received my first research grant. To ensure that the funding I received is going to good use, I am required to give a presentation on my work every two weeks to a small group of students and the faculty adviser for the grant. My previous presentations had a complete lack of organization, excitement and professional delivery. After working with the Glasers and reading their material, I was able to design a new presentation that allowed me to express the passion I have for the subject.

It went tremendously better than my previous presentations this summer. A few people in the group had seen my previous talks. They said that I appeared very confident, well organized and passionate about the subject, a complete turn around from my other talks. The people who hadn't seen it before came up to me at the end and said that they couldn't imagine it any other way.

In short, this book can help anyone become a better speaker and group communicator. From students who are looking to improve their group communication skills, teams of workers who need to solve problems in a safe and open environment to individuals who have trouble facing conflict with their mentors, bosses and employees.

Thank you Glasers

Incredibly helpful. Very easy read- although this may be because it was well written and extremely interesting. I use it daily during interactions with strangers on the bus to family members. Makes communication feel like cheating because of the way I can easily express my ideas and needs to people around me. I'd recommend it to my friends and family members, but I'm afraid they'll learn my tricks:)

Thanks so much Drs. Glaser!!!

I read this book a few years back, and the only word I can use to describe it is, AMAZING!!!! This may be one of R.L. Stines best pieces of literary work yet. I started reading the first book at nine o'clock pm, and figured I would just finish the rest the next day, and then the second book the day after that, and so on and so forth. No, I stayed up the whole night reading all three books I was that captivated by it. I highly recommend this book, it's also a fun book to read to your siblings.

I loved this book from 6 years ago i havent read it since but i know what its about. The Fier family and the Goode family have it in for each other and the mysterious murders don't even start there.. there are deep dark secrets from hundreds of years before that slowly become unraveled and also become regreted. This is the best Fear Street novel i've ever read and i dont mind reding it over & over.I just can't believe how so many spirits can take over an entire family's lives!!!!!The book is really creepy, & you can sometimes feel like you're there wanting to tell a person to do the right thing.I read it so long ago, & I remember faint details & names but i do recall the strong intensity of the book that didn't let me put it down for days until i finished. I was only eleven but i'm seventen now, and i really have to buy this book again!!!!!!!

I read this book when I was 13 and became totally enchanted by it. I lost the book, and ended up buying used for $20.00, but when I read it again, I was able to understand and totally wrap myself into it, and read faster than I did before. 19 years old and reading these books, cheap little thrills. I wouldn't reccomend this book to anyone younger than 13 because of the strong violence that occurs. Other than that, if you love the dark-side..read it.

I have been a shell collector for more than 25 years and along this years, this is the first time that I get such an interesting, well-documented, beautyfully illustrated and skillfully designed book on this subject. I am very happy with this purchase. The book has 411 pages with information and has about 12 photographs in each page giving a perfect appreciation of thousands of shells from everywhere. Each photo includes the common name (obviously valid in English speaking countries only), the scientific name, average length of adults (in centimeters and inches), brief information of geographical distribution and synonym names. Oh!, I almost forget to say that the authors,R. Tucker Abbott and S. Peter Dance are two famous conchologists leading this field of science for many, many years. So, this book informs, teaches and makes it very funny to learn and investigate in the universe of shells. "Bon apetit", collectors!!!

I had an earlier printing of this book (1983) and was disappointed to find that the 2000 edition I just purchased was virtually identical apart from a page of corrections at the end which would be much more useful if incorporated into the text. I feel that this excellent book needs updating to keep it as the No 1 general book on seashell identification.

I have been a shell collector for a very long time now. This is now my second copy of this book, as I have worn the first copy out. It is the most comprehensive identifier book around. The color photos are excellent, and the amount of species depicted is impressive! This book, along with Jerome M. Eisenberg's A Collectors Guide to the Sea Shells of the World, are probably the only two books on Sea Shells, a novice collector will ever need. The serious collector will also benefit from these books as well.

I was reading a work by Christopher Browning recently and he stated how just as many historians were starting to realize the functionalist understanding of the Shoah, Hilberg refined it to a even more nuanced level. Always dilligent, deeper and a step ahead. I had read many books on the subject prior to this one, and frankly had put of buying it because of the price, yet don't regret the purchase one bit. Too many historians use the prhase "magnum opus" when refering to this work and frankly I agree 100%

A Seminal Work on the Holocaust

Review Date: 2006-01-01
Hilberg's brilliant and dispassionate treatment of attempts throughout history to destroy the Jews sets a new standard for scholarship and for the historical analysis of emotionally charge subjects. Through his own efficient analytic framework of precedents, antecedents, and scope of organization, Hilberg gives us a lucid formula for both understanding and explaining the subtext, context, and pretext of the 1500-year old continuously running saga of anti-Semitism. The effect is to place the reader in the cockpit of the planners of one of the worst disasters known to man, the holocaust of World War-II. But more importantly, he also provides us with all the necessary facts that go with, and that load his framework.

The context of the holocaust is 1500 years of progressive improvements in ways of addressing the so-called "Jewish problem (or threat)," and corresponding Jewish cultural adaptations to these improved attempts to annihilate them. The improvements have ranged from failed attempts by Catholics to convert Jews into Christians, to expelling them from Europe, to Hitler's creation of a bureaucracy of industrialized death to implement his "final solution." (The author summarizes this progression as conversion, expulsion, and annihilation.)

The subtext of anti-Semitism ostensibly has always been about the "predatory Jewish character" but in fact has been about fears, fears of cultural, religious and ethnic differences and about independence from ordinary orthodoxy. It is precisely these fears that are the most easily serviceable, and most easily ignited into action during times of stress. They are best facilitated through hatred -- especially when guided by a catalyst of evil, ignorance, demagoguery, or demented and corrupt leaders. Inexorably they pass through a process of condoned and sanctioned violence to collective murder. (Fear of Jewish independence and failure to accept the Christian Jesus as their religious messiah and savior have throughout history served as one of the key subtexts of anti-Semitism).

Just as the pattern that serves as the subtext for anti-Semitism is generalizable to other forms of chauvinism, racism and hatred, so too is the pretext: The target is first demonized, dehumanized and vilified; and then disenfranchised, hounded and spatially as well socially segregated. This process of dehumanization then leads logically to, and serves as justification and collective psychological cover for, committing criminal acts against the targeted groups -- including mass industrialized murder. (Jewish religious idolatry, and ethnic character flaws, i.e. their predatory business acumen and slipperiness, their fear of honest work, etc. has throughout history served as the pretext for justifying criminal acts against Jews).

This book puts to rest the popular "magic bullet theory" of the holocaust: that explaining Hitler explains everything anyone would ever need to know about the holocaust. It does not. The anti-Semitic pressures along fault lines leading up to the holocaust had been building up for more than 1500 years. It was these pressures and not Hitler that bear the primary responsibility for the holocaust. Hitler just happened to be the demented catalyst that sparked an anti-Semitic eruption at a time when a demoralized German people needed a tonic for restoring their national pride.

Five Stars.

Windchaser is a fabulous book for kids who would love to fly. The story involves a boy who lost his father and a flyer who has lost something special to him. A young criminal bound for Australia has a parallel storyline as we watch how Dinotopia opens up new opportunities for them both.

Dinotopia is the place I would go to live in a "New York minute"...no crime to speak of, no bad language, friendly people who actually think of others before themselves are the norm, and playing with dinosaurs makes all characters understand what's really important in life. Boys will especially love this one from start to finish.

Wind Chaser

This book was great because it was about two kids that meet each other in a ship. And one kid which name is Hugh saved the other kid which name is Raymond from being thrown into the deep sea. Because the ship was taking some dangerous man to another place. But the criminals took over the ship when a big storm was taking place. But Hugh steeled things that are why he was in that ship. So he had to be taken to another place to put him in prison. And Raymond was in that ship because he was the surgeons' ships son. But one of the criminals killed his dad and he was about to be killed to but Hugh saved him. He told Raymond to jump into the sea. And than a dolphin came along and saved both boys by taking them to a land. In that land the two boys saw what they had never seen. There were people working with dinosaurs'. Every body got along with the dinosaurs. The people there did not use money to buy things instead they exchanged things. The boys learned many things in that land and had lot of adventures.

It was one of my favorite books. It had action with a twist. I liked how the dinosaurs and people made friends.

Raymond's father died trying trying to stop the prisoners from taking over the ship and fell overboard into a watery grave. Raymond was devastated for a long time. When he found Windchaser and talked to him, he discovered Windchaser lost someone too. They became great friends.

Hugh saw a rock in front of the boat and made Raymond jump overboard and saved his life. Hugh was older and was the best pick-pocket in London because he was very poor. When they got on the island they began to get hungry. Then they saw a fruit that looked like an apple. Hugh became a good friend to Raymond and everyone in Dinotopia.

Dr. Dink's prescription for financial wellness really hit home...even for a guy with a Masters in Business Administration in Finance. His book would definitely be valuable for someone trying to gain some basic knowledge of financial management. However, what really distinguishes Dr. Dink's book from others is his ability to bring abstract financial concepts down to earth and help us to understand how often our financial situation drives our decision-making regardless of how much money we make. In challenging us to "stop chasing our bills and start chasing our dreams" he reminds us that life is too short to allow credit cards bills to stand in the way of happiness. By setting his financial program within a very practical context, Dr. Dink did a great job of keeping me interested and his witty stories and useful examples were the icing on the cake. For anybody interested in taking back their life from banks and credit cards, Dr Dink has the financial cure for you.

Great book for non-finance people!

Finally a book for those of us that don't understand the world of finance! I highly recommend this book and let me tell you why.

This book has some very practical advice about getting out of debt and staying out of debt. The author also provides some insights into investing. What this book has that I have not seen in other finance type books, is the ability to draw in the reader ... you don't feel like you are reading a finance book but rather you feel as if you are having a discussion with a friend, an advisor .... yes, even a teacher. Dr. Dink is indeed a teacher. I felt as if I had sat down with him and he was telling me about the mistakes he's made, the mistakes that are common and then what to do to avoid them. For those of us who have made those mistakes [and there are lots of us] you feel like you're not alone and his advice is easy to follow. Of course, that doesn't mean it's easy to DO what he says ... but it's easy to understand his advice.

Dr. Dink has a conversational way of writing. The reader gets a glimpse of his personal life and how these finance 'lessons' worked for him, his friends and others.

I found that I was able to read this book quickly, and I'm sure will be going back to it for advice. As a business professional, I found the information valuable. I'd recommend it for younger people as well, especially those starting out. It's a great gift for college students in particular.

Appealing, Homespun Advice for Improving Household Finances

This book comes across like a cross between Will Rogers and Tony Robbins in helping you take charge of your financial life. It has a personal, in-touch feel that will make thinking about your finances more interesting and comfortable . . . even if you have some serious issues. The advice is consistent with the most advanced techniques, but presented in a way that is easy to absorb and apply. This book can be effectively used by most middle income households headed by someone with at least two years of high school education. The typical family using this approach should improve net worth by many hundreds of thousands of dollars over the next three decades. Buy it, read it, and live it!

This book would be fun to read, even if you weren't interested in household finances. The writing and the slant are very appealing.

Dr. Dink is a charming fellow. He admits all of his own weaknesses and mistakes in a totally disarming way. While many "experts" on personal finances try to elevate the subject, the effect is to make people feel embarrassed by their mistakes. Dr. Dink has a fundamental respect for others and for himself that make you feel right at home.

Dr. Dink, by comparison to the media stars you see on television every day telling you what to do financially, comes down to your level (wherever that may be) with sympathy and understanding, points out that you are okay and can succeed, and helps you to see your own way to accomplishing what you want.

Three aspects of the book are particularly commendable:

1) The decision process of Q-Q-Kachoo. The book describes the process far better than I can here in a few words. The essence is to use three perspectives simultaneously: total cost carefully quantified over time; looking at the pros and cons of a decision (a la Ben Franklin); and checking your gut (seeing how you feel about the decision). If all three point in the same direction (positively or negatively), chances are that you have made a good decision. Many very sophisticated decision-making techniques apply these same fundamental concepts, just in more complicated ways. If you are interested in learning more about that subject, see Smart Choices.

2) Creating comfortable ways to draw your attention to the main areas where you can increase your income, reduce your expenses, save and invest money better. This is not rocket science nor brain surgery, but the details can easily get lost . . . and bad decisions follow. Dr. Dink gives you a simple, quick way to spot those opportunities and find your own, pleasant solutions.

3) Providing detailed examples from a variety of perspectives. Many of these will hit home for you. Everyone, for example, will resonate to the idea of paying green cash for things as a way to save money. We all spend less when we have to dole it out, bill by bill, than when we can use a credit card or a check. You don't have to do pay in cash, but you will appreciate the power of the example . . . and perhaps sometimes you will use this approach to your advantage when it makes sense.

As you can see, Dr. Dink's strength is that he has great common sense and a wonderful common touch about human psychology and finances. He doesn't do this kind of work to build himself up ego-wise. He is truly a servant of clients. Very nice, Dr. Dink!

After you have finished applying the lessons of this book to your own finances, I suggest that you become a Dr. Dink, Junior, and share the lessons with someone else you care about. In helping someone else learn these principles, you will reinforce and extend your own learning.

Keep your eye on your financial vital signs, and a long, healthy financial life will follow!
