Jeff Belanger has written a remarkable, entertaining, and thoughtful children's book about ghosts in the White House. That the White House is haunted is apparent, and in the capable hands of Jeff Belanger these intriguing true tales about the President's mansion and the ghosts who live there comes alive! Vivid, descriptive, and highly researched, this book is one you will enjoy having in your home for your child or children. This is a genuinely spooky tour of the White House, and each page comes alive with ghostly information! This is a well-written book by an expert in the field of the paranormal and supernatural. The illustrations by Rick Powell are an added delight to the book! For something unusual, get a copy of this book for yourself and a friend! I found "A Little Boy's Ghost," and "President Lincoln: Assassinated, but Not Gone" among my personal favorites as I read the book! The story concerning President Truman was amazing, too! There is much to learn in this interesting, historical look at ghosts in the White House.

My 16 month old son adores this book - the pages are thick enough that he won't rip/damage them, the pull out slots are simple enough for him to manipulate and the story is short and simple. I get a kick out of his responses to each page (ie when the donkey is revealed, he says "HI-ya" - his version of "Hee Haw").

I happened upon this book in a library sale, and so glad I picked it up! The prose in this book is astoundingly gorgeous....poetry.

The details of everyday life in the period are vast, it's all intertwined in a bitter marriage and life of John Milton...told through his wife who was forced into marriage with him at 16...2 temperments so unsuited to one another. She loved another.

You'll love this gem of a book. I am surprised it is not more well known.

Wise Up! Experience the Power of Proverbs was an enjoyable, intersting, thought-provoking study. It reaches out to things that 6th through 9th grade girls face everyday. The study uses true stories to help give examples and explain a little more about the proverbs that are read. There are some difficult questions in the study, but the questions force you to ask yourself things that sometimes you want to avoid. Like...are you being a Christ-like example to your friends? Did you really forgive that person? What would you honestly have done in this situation?
I liked Wise Up! because I feel like I've grown closer to God and I understand a little bit more about myself!

British Women in WWII
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-12-23
Starting in 1939, British women were called up for essential industries to replace men in the military service. The Land Girls worked on farms, many of them never having lived on one.
This is an excellent picture of the times, many photographs, not just official ones, but snapshots belonging to the women themselves.
This book would be valuable to a history student,or anyone interested in World War II, especially the contribution of women. It offers insight in the lives of the British people during the war. An interesting, non-fiction book.

Four environmentalists, before the term was invented
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2002-01-03
Dorman explores the origins of American conservation and environmentalism by studying four key men of the nineteenth century -- George Perkins Marsh (1801-1882), Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), John Muir (1838-1914), and John Wesley Powell (1834-1902). Thoreau and Muir appear often in works of this kind, and Powell is occasionally added and is best known for his trip down the Colorado River and into the Grand Canyon. But what of Marsh? This Vermont lawyer, legislator, and industrialist published the book _Man and Nature_ in 1864. His travels to Europe and the Middle East were part of his enlightenment into the relationship between humans and Nature. He was one of the first individuals to admit that "all nature is linked together by invisible bonds" and to see man as a "destructive power" in the scenario. He recommended restoration efforts for the rampant deforestation in the northeastern America of the mid-1800s and suggested governmental control of such an endeavor, in spite of that institution's many failings. For the biography of Marsh alone, Dorman's book is worthwhile reading. But even if you think you already know the basics about the other three personalities, you'll learn something new here. Dorman doesn't just rehash old information; he provides a fresh interpretation of their contributions, illustrating the societal influences that formed their belief systems, and connecting each man to at least one of the other three at least once. A good addition to the 21st-century environmentalist's bookshelf.

Not only is this book a no nonsense in-depth approach to Sitcom writing, it is obviously written with a great deal of knowledge acquired through a genuine love of the subject. The authors share their experience of actually having written Sitcoms and also provide us with the results of their detailed analysis of the structure of a successful script. It's also a very good read.
