My son found this book at a store during story time and plays with it every day. This book is more like a toy in that it is a puzzle, and the little animals fit in each page. But is has a little story as well. Other children who have played with it also love it. My son is 18 months and has played with it for about 3 months. It has heavy cardboard pages and nice graphics. It would make a nice gift, which is why I am shopping for it today on Amazon.

I received a set of three of these (including "Out You Come, Mouse!") for my son when he was about a year and a half old. They were the best gift he received that year! The book has tabs which move to reveal hidden pictures. We took them with us everywhere. This book was the best item to keep him busy while at the grocery store or a restaurant. Although these books are very sturdy, this book (in the set of three )was so well loved by my son that it finally was so worn out that I had to throw it away. My younger son, now 16 months, is now mezmerized by another book from the set, "I'll find you Kitty!"

Great Interviews and Pictures

This book covers many authors over different periods in their careers. You feel like you are in the room with them. The most outstanding element is the photo of Shelby Foote smiling. To my knowledge no picture of the man with a smile on his face has ever been published. This may seem trivial, but if you are a fan of Shelby Foote, you know he makes a point of not smiling for photographs. This is a good book with great insight into the minds of many Southern writers.

BEST PASTA BOOK EVER!

I have to confess that this book has kept me up past my bedtime on more than a couple occasions. This was an impulse purchase on a gift certificate; I probably would not have gotten it since I have a library of cookbooks as it is, but I have to tell you this is one of the best cookbooks I've seen in years. Don't let the larger-than-life, coffee table format put you off. This is one very serious, yet concise and easy to follow cookbook. It takes you through what you need to know about the various pastas and other ingredients, and the equipment you need to use, then on to almost idiot proof directions for making your own pasta. Prefer to purchase your pasta? Not a problem ... this book is crammed with recipes for any concievable type of pasta you could buy. The recipes are easy but don't insult your intelligence. The gorgious, full-color photography shows you what your creation should look like at it's various stages of completion. You have your rustic fare and elegant dishes. Some are simple and others more complex (read 'costly'). There are your soups, your sauces, your baked pastas. You have sections devoted to meat and pasta and vegitables and pasta. And of course there are those to-die-for seafood and pasta dishes. I have fresh Mayport white shrimp and scallops in the frig at this very moment awaiting a simple application of heavy cream, cheese and ... what else -- PASTA! Depending on where in the country you reside, you may have touble obtaining some of the ingredients. So far, I have had difficulty finding some of the specialty, calorie laden goodies and other ingredients, however, the search is proving to be educational and my skills are being put to the test where substitutions are concerned. If you live in a more cosmopolitan area, you're in luck. I plan to purchase this book for my two sisters; one is a gourmet cook and the other tends towards the more simple fare. Both will enjoy 'Pasta' and, I'm sure, use it for many years to come.

Path of the Heretic, Liber Erratum, is the first publication from Equilibria Books; it is an exploration of the hidden symbolism within the Biblical text. It also contains philosophical and speculative musings from the Author based on observations and experiences he has had as a student of Mysticism and Esotericism, an Occult Researcher and Paranormal Investigator.

Path of the Heretic implores its reader to explore the roots of their own faith, and though the text deals expressly with the Judean-Christian paradigm it encourages free-thought and offers alternative insight into the true nature of the Bible, its message and the lessons taught therein.

Here is what people are saying:

"The book is a wonderment, even for the non-Christian. As a student of magick and religion I was enthralled by the logical dissection of the Biblical text, as B.H. Powell's Path of the Heretic shed light on, or should I say illuminated the hidden mysteries within." ~Bob Freeman, creator and Author of the Cairnwood Manor: Shadows over Somerset Series.

"A truly great piece of writing that penetrates the mythic truths behind Biblical symbolism. I truly enjoyed B.H. Powell's perceptive and eloquent exposition of themes running through the Bible's mystical and occult (hidden) landscape" ~Steven Ashe, Author of Qabalah of 50 Gates.

"The Heretic is a unique insight into the nature of Christian esotericism; a wonderful example of one man's journey into the deeper aspects of Christian spiritual traditions and what it can mean to the rest of us" ~Mark Stavish, Author of Freemasonry: Rituals, Symbols & History of the Secret Society.

A real inside look at politics
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2001-01-07
This is a fascinating look at a politican best remembered for the $800,000 he left in a shoebox (more or less) in a shabby Springfield hotel room. But Paul Powell was more than that. He was a product of a unique time and place and became a political force that for a time revolved as a "twin-sun" with the Chicago Daley Machine. This book explains how Southern Illinois shaped Powell and how his roots affected his role in Illinois politics. It's also a fascinating look at racetrack politics - a convergence that sent Gov. Otto Kerner to prison. Bob Hartley knows his stuff and has written a very readable account of a very fascinating man.

From the City of Destruction to the Celestial City
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2003-12-23
If you've ever wanted to experience the spiritual truths of Bunyan's classic, but didn't feel up to tackling the 17th century original, then this graphic novelization is for you. It works well, for the allegorical images of the original lend themselves readily to a visual approach.

Here you have the entire story of The Pilgrims Progress, as well as, parts of the sequel, Christiana's Progress. All the classic teaching imagery is here: the city of destruction, slough of despond, village of morality, wicket gate, interpreter's house, the cross, palace beautiful, valley of the shadow of death, valley of humiliation, vanity fair, doubting castle, delectable mountains, dark river, and celestial city. Here too are the classic characters from the Evangelist, to Worldly Wiseman, to Faithful Friend. There is a modern updating to the characters and settings, but they are still faithful to the spirit of the original.

The remarkable thing about this tale is that it expresses eternal spiritual truths that you do not need to be a puritan, or even a christian, to appreciate.
