Best Teen Christian Sexuality Curriculum

I have combed through sexuality curriculum for youth and had almost given up...Then I found the "Good Sex" curriculum and
I cannot say enough good things. The authors do an excellent job at presenting honest, comprehensive, relevant and (best of
all) biblically-based study for teenagers. They are flexible enough that each church/denomination could use them and solid
enough that they do not water down biblical truths. The video is top notch; the book and Bible studies extremely helpful.
As far as I know, there is nothing like this on the market. I generally do not depend on curriculum for teaching, but this
is a wonderful and rare exception. Clearly, I highly recommend it and will pass the word along to Christian educators everywhere.

More great Goon stories, each telling a tale of woe while still being highly amusing at the same time.
Eric Powell continues to plumb the depths of his twisted mind and Thomas Lennon, of Reno 911 fame, joins in with his own amusing tale at the end of this tome that is a written piece rather than a graphic adventure.
We get Goon as a football player, spaceman (well, extradimensional traveler), Ghost of Christmas Present whose primary job is (still) to beat the crap out of the Zombie Priest, and an introduction to the Junior Goon Squad, the Unholy [...].
Another very worthy volume. This series is certainly a wicked delight for me, with its total off the wall sensibilities that actually also remarkably find a way to touch you every now and then. I am constantly amazed at the creative range that Eric Powell has.

Eric Powell's Virtue and the Grim Consequences Thereof collects issues 9-13 of the Dark Horse series, and it's some of the
best Goon stories ever. It starts with the story of The Goon's football team called The Fishcanners, a group of guys whose
greatest virtue is that they'll kill you for a potato cake. And if they'll do that for food, imagine what they'll do for grid-iron
pride. It ends up being a bittersweet story of hope and tragedy, all ultimately playing into the hands of the Zombie Priest.
It contains Powell's famous, impious reinterpretation of Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol, the funniest rendition of it you've
ever seen ("What is this? I was told this was going to be a legitimate theatrical production! I've been beaten, abused, bludgeoned,
shot, and now a mentally deficient Tiny Tim just took a crap on my leg!"). Then it goes to the fan-favorite story of "The
Dimension of the Flesh-Eating Eye," retro-psychedelia gone very, very bad. The last two stories deal with Dr. Alloy's mental
derangement that ends with himself and The Goon in prison, their futures looking pretty bleak. Another highlight in this collection
is the formation of The Goon's kiddie squad of Super Secret Special Reserves, aka The Little Unholy Ba***rds. Unique to this
collection is an introduction by Thomas Lennon lambasting Powell and encouraging fans to abuse him (as that's the only way
he gets motivated). You also get a story told by Franky (perhaps penned by Lennon) "Jimmy Turtle and the Legendary Boxcar
of Well Made Ladies Shoes." And a sketchbook. This is one of the most outright funny of the trade paperback collections. If
you're a Goon fan already, you'll have to have Franky's story, and if you're new to it all and looking for a good introduction
to the Goon series, you can't do better than this one.

For most Americans, Guy Fawkes is known to us more from that movie "V for Vendetta" then for anything else. Guy Fawkes Day
on 5 November is weird sort of a holiday as any when people of Britain lit a bonfire and roast an effigy of this fellow over
it. When I was staying in a small town of Franley, England, I was surprised to learned that Fawkes family still exists and
control much of the land around. So I read this book and discovered it to be somewhat of a page-turner.
This book is about the plot to blow up both Houses of Parliament and King James I. Roman Catholics of Britain was getting desperate over increasingly restrictive measures taken by King and Parliament so a group of them decided to take matter in their own hands. Guy Fawkes was the leader of that plot and he had both religious and political motivations to do so. The book proves to be clearly written and highly informative on why, how and who was involved in this plot. This was supposed to take place on 5 November 1605 but the plotters were betrayed and although they came close, it was not good enough. The entire historical episode read like a detective story. It also had major importance in its aftermath as well for the Catholics of Britain who found themselves even more restricted. The author, Antonia Fraser who have already written several superb books on British history, scored again with this book.
I found the book to be informative and easy to understand the complex and slightly weird story behind this plot that easily could have been one of the greatest terrorist attacks in history. The author's style of writing is appealing to most casual and veteran readers of history. Book come highly recommended to anyone interested in this historical incident and its cultural significant.
I believed this is the new title and edition of Faith and Treason that was published back in 1996.

As the old saying goes Remember, Remember the Fifth of November, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot. In the present day come November
5th we all look forward to a firework display and a bonfire on which to burn the effigy of someone called Guy Fawkes while
enjoying a roast potato, some of mum's parkin and cinder toffee. But who is the man called Guy Fawkes and what did he do that
was so bad that we have to burn him every `Bonfire Night.'
Guy Fawkes was born in the city of York, less than 20 miles from where I live. He has always been attributed with the leadership of a group of men who plotted to blow up the Houses of parliament on November 5th 1605. Their motives were both political and religious. Even today many such similar deeds are carried out or attempted in the name of one religion or another. A damning indication that man very rarely learns from his mistakes.
Antonia Fraser is an accomplished and much read historical author with many awards for her writing skills and she has the consummate skill to be able to make the book read like a modern day detective novel, yet in no way prejudicing the factual historical content of the events that led up to the plot being foiled literally at the last moment.

For those of you who take long car rides, I recommend the tape version of this book; for educators the CD format is best for
instant access to any composer. As for the material itself, it is a superb "beginner's guide" to the history of opera. Running
just short of 320 minutes (each CD is packed up to nearly the 80 minute limit), the not too cultivated British voice of
the narrator takes us through the stages of the development of opera with copious illustrations drawn from the mammoth Naxos
catalogue. The information is beautifully organized and very very clearly expressed. I transferred my CD copy to tape so
I could hear it several times while on the road and let the information sink in. There is a Naxos set along the same lines
that traces the history of all Western music; but there I felt that 4 CDs were not enough. Here I congratulate whoever did
the abrigement for a fine job.

Rosen's 'Primary sources of Revolutionary Scientific Discoveries and Theories' set adds an important new contribution to the
series with Hubble And The Big Bang, a 64-page survey of both Hubble and his contributions to astronomy. Opening with an introduction
to astronomy as a whole, chapters quickly zero in on Hubble's theories and contribution to cosmology and conclude with a summary
timeline of events, primary source transcriptions, a bibliography, primary source image list and index. Intriguing color illustrations
pepper Hubble And The Big Bang but the text is the meat of this coverage and is suitable report material for grades 3-5. Even
more notable is the fact that Hubble is seldom awarded his own in-depth coverage for this age group.

This is my favorite volume of poetry. He writes with the fire and heat he praises. The poetry crackles and burns the whole
way through. My fingers and eyes have been singed by his feverish words. While I am not as versed in the classical imagery
he summons, the work is nonetheless powerful and accessible. His poems written in the form of letters to friends, lovers,
relatives are particularly affecting. But above all his writing burns and reminds me of the fever I live with every day,
of the immedicacy and hot thrill of being alive. He argues that "recalcitrance to change" may slowly wear us down, and that
the battering of ourselves against rocks shooting downstream in dangerous rapids can preserve us... This makes sense to
me. I could recommend no other text so highly

Killjoy: A Cop's Fight Against Child Sexual Abuse by business and surety consultant Corine Quarterman (in collaboration with
former police officer and juvenile abuse prevention expert Rollie Powell), utilizes true life case studies to illustrate and
document how child sexual abuse erodes the social contract which is essential to the foundation of a democratic and law abiding
society -- and toxic to families both short term and long term. Especially appropriate for the non-specialist general reader,
Killjoy is a timely and welcome contribution to the growing national dialogue about the prevention and punishment of familial
and opportunistic child abusers and their victims.

As the mother of two young children, I recommend this book to every parent. I also believe that anyone working with children
(teachers, social workers, law enforcement, camp counselors, baysitters)MUST read this book! You could help protect a child.
Anyone interested in true crime books will also find this book fascinating. Not only was I quickly educated on what
pedophilia and child sexual abuse are, I realized how big a problem this really is, and how quickly is 'spreads' like a disease.
More importantly, I learned about the warning signs of abuse and realized I saw some of those signs in my own children. A
closer look at my own kids revealed serious problems in their daycare and I removed them immediately. Thank God I read this
book!
