An Alabama you may not know
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-11-26
The state of Alabama has diverse geographic features, from lush green forests in the middle and northern sections of the state to white sandy beaches along the gulf coast. Wetlands cover a substantial portion of Alabama as well, covering some 3+ million acres. Before this region was settled, almost 8 million acres of wetlands were present. These wetlands are home to thousands of wildlife species and birds. Sadly, the wetlands of Alabama are often misunderstood and most people incorrectly associate them as mosquito infested bogs. This book serves as a showcase of spectacular photographic images by Robert Falls Sr. to illustrate just how beautiful these areas are. The text by Doug Phillips describes how the state of Alabama's economy and livlihood depend on these waters and it also delves into the scary possibility of endangerment and what this would mean to our state. The author makes future projections about the state's population growth and identifies areas that will have the most growth and how these areas will be impacted. This is a beautiful book filled with breathtaking images - a snowy egret perched on a log in the middle of a fog shrouded lake, breathtaking sunsets over bayous, close-ups of pitcher plants and water lilies, an alligator advancing from a stand of grass along the waters edge, etc. It should be an essential purchase for Alabama libraries and anyone who is interested in Alabama's ecology and environment.

Highly useful specialized topical Bible
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-08-19
Separated into fifty-four categories, "Keys to Happier Living" is basically a topical Bible based on the Authorized King James Version of the Bible. But instead of a large, cumbersome comprehensive Topical Bible such as Naves, the author has compiled those topics related to Happier Living into a much smaller and manageable volume.

For people who are not familiar with a topical Bible, a topic is given (such as anger, beauty, critcism, or friendship) and verses related to that topic are all placed together underneath it. As a result you end up with a collection of verses related to the topic. I have Naves and a couple of other topical Bibles, but I really appreciate the way that this book contains only verses related to creating a happy life. Well designed and easy to use, it is a book of encouragement and Bible study that anyone can use. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking Biblical based knowledge and study on happiness, relationships, and personal problems as well as personal growth.

GREAT SELF-HELP BOOK FOR ALL

I WISH I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO READ THIS BOOK TWO YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS GOING THROUGH MY DIVORCE; OR, EVEN THREE YEARS AGO, AND PERHAPS I WOULD STILL BE MARRIED. THIS BOOK PUTS RELATIONSHIPS INTO DOWN-TO-EARTH PERSPECTIVE AND ALLOWS YOU TO ANALYZE YOUR OWN ATTITUDES AND EXPECTATIONS TO THE POINT OF SEEING YOURSELF AS YOUR PARTNER REALLY SEES YOU. IT ALSO ALLOWS YOU TO SEE YOUR PARTNER'S POINT OF VIEW. IT HAS A LIGHT-HEARTED AND COMICAL SIDE TOO, AND YOU CAN CRITIQUE YOUR OWN BEHAVIOR AS A RESULT. IT DEFINES THE PHASES OF A DIVORCE THAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING AND YOU REALIZE YOU ARE NOT GOING THROUGH THESE PHASES AND FEELINGS ALONE. I RECOMMEND IT TO HAPPILY MARRIED COUPLES, AS WELL AS DIVORCEES AND THOSE GOING THROUGH TROUBLED RELATIONSHIPS. I AM READING IT FOR THE THIRD TIME AND PICK UP SOMETHING NEW EACH TIME. GREAT BOOK AND GREAT HELP!

Or, A Woman's Guide to Protecting Herself in her Marriage

Marriage is a business contract, and men break the contract all the time! I never thought my man would divorce me. But after 23 years and 4 kids, he decided he wanted out so he could be free to play around (aka finding himself). So buy this book as soon as you can, even BEFORE you think your marriage may be in trouble. I think Amazon should give chapter headings in their reviews, so I'll do it for you: Chap 1) Bad Divorces Happen to Nice Women (that's me; was I TOO nice?) Chap 2)Think about Divorce before you marry (wish I had!) Chap 3)What to do when your marriage is dying (recognizing when he's on his way out, and start protecting yourself) Chap 4)Choosing a lawyer; Your Most Important Decision Chap 5) What to Expect from Your Lawyer Chap 6) What your Lawyer expects from you Chap 7) Your Children and Your Divorce Chap 8) Money and the Divorce Treasure Hunt (find the money he's hiding from you. If you can't show that it's there, you can't claim your share!) Chap 9 After you File for Divorce (the legal roadmap) Chap 10) Discovery: What it is and How It Works Chap 11) Getting Ready for Trial Chap 12) The Trial Chap 13) The Ending Chap 14) Special Issues (violence, etc) and Appendices with a great little summary of divorce laws of all 50 states.

This book would have saved me a number of mistakes before our separation, but at least I got this excellent advice soon afterwards. No one book can have everything in it, so when you are ready for the "meat" of your finances, get the Violet Woodhouse book, Divorce & Money; How to Make the Best Financial Decisions during Divorce. Good luck and God bless.

Oh, what a fun book this was!

Dr. Gordon (a real doctor, by the way) tells us of medical school adventures at (the fictional) St. Swithin's Hospital in London. It's like a combination of "The Interns" and "Animal House," with lazy students (one who went to med school and failed four times just so he could keep receiving his grandmother's inheritance!), pub crawling, rugby, girlfriends, the horror of cramming for exams, and of the colorful characters (staff, patients, friends & assorted folks that drift in and out) that they come across in a typical crazy day. It's a book that had me laughing on nearly every page, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

This is the true story of three remarkable people who sacrificed everything they had for what they believed in, and to fight against the evil that was Nazi Germany. Because it is written like a novel, the reader will not be able to put the book down. A must read for any serious student of WWII.

Ms. Sanders' loved the pictures. Her students had their favorite parts like: Angela and Jared like when Josh and Millie meet. Jon's favorite part is when everyone is praying for Millie, and she gets better.
