From the beginning, every time that I thought I had this one figured out, I was wrong. The author keeps you on edge wondering, "Who did it?" This is a story about friendship & betrayal, love and hate, confusion caused by lack of communication, and the perseverance of an out of work reporter. Is conspiracy ever justified? This book answers that question and more. Truly a murder mystery I'll remember for a long time.

This book changed my whole perspective on dating, marriage andlife as a single person. It helped me finally become secure in beingsingle, even if for life. God definitely used this book to shape who I am today. The writing style is great and you'll find you can't put the book down. The books before this one compliment it and I would suggest reading the first 6 books in the series before it. It will be well worth your time!

What is Corrie to do with her life? Could it be love?

Review Date: 2000-03-06
After a tragedy in the novel before this seventh book in the series, Corrie finds herself awakened with more questions without answers than she can figure out by herself. She must rely on her faith in God to help sort through the questions to her life. Is she to stay at the convent, is she to continue writing to help those she believes are right? She overcomes some heartaches and misunderstandings by visiting the home of her youth in New York, emerging on the other side with California beckoning to her and a certain someone on her mind. God reveals to her what is to become of her life! Though not as exciting as some of the latter novels, this book certainly keeps me reading! Very good!

Another excellent book in the Corrie Belle Hollister series

I am moved by every book in the "Journals of Corrie Belle Hollister" series, but Land of the Brave and the Free has influenced me most. Displaying God's faithfulness to one life through a sequence of dramatic and suspenseful events, this book accurately describes the struggles and questions that a young person has about life. The reader's interest is stirred by the Civil War setting and by Corrie's placement in major events in U.S. history, such as the Civil War's final battle and the funeral procession of President Lincoln. My favorite aspect of this book is Corrie's growing relationship with God and, in these portions, I learned a lot about myself. God's goodness and beautiful gifts bring the book to a close with an ending that brings tears. Overall, Land of the Brave and the Free is one of the best installments in "Journals of Corrie Belle Hollister" series and a must-read for every Christian fiction enthusiast.

A Must Read For Everyone!

This easy to read, yet very insightful and inspirational book is by far the best book I have ever read on this subject. In many ways it stands out above the rest because it has some really unique information not found out there in other books on the market. I love it. It has helped me so much! I'm in my early 40's and I have already gone through more than one sudden and unexpected brushes with death. I say this book is a must for everyone because we all need to be prepared for death and to overcome our fears of it. Whether you have a love one who has died or is dying or just want to overcome the fear and be prepared for that unknown moment yourself, this book is great---it's truly an inspiration for all of us! Beautiful pictures & design. I'll be recommending it to many people.

Phillip Jones is a tender friend to the whole human soul. His writing transcends terms like 'Eastern,' 'Western,' or 'Indigenous.'

I felt the breathing and the heartbeat of God when I read this profound little volume. We all lose someone; we all die. For Jones, death is the Great Intimacy, the return, the birth from time into eternity.

Jones as such is a midwife of God, supporting our awakening and return to our Source. Read this book and absorb its reverence. I want Jones present at my death!

This book is my favorite gift for a child. I have even bought copies for adults. It's a wonderful tool for showing a child the joy of imagination. The author tells a charming story about a little girl in a real painting. Could it be true? The illustrator, magically brings the painting to life. Not only does the little girl in the red dress pose with her cat and dog but she throws the dog a stick, she stirs the cooks's soup, she eats a cherry tart. In a very subtle way the book teaches a child to open their minds as well as their eyes. To search for more than what their eyes see. In the book, the little girl looks out a window, at a peaceful country scene below and waits for something exciting to happen. I wonder if she is looking down at us now. If she knows her picture hangs in a museum and that a delightful story has been written about her. I think she does.

A charming story and museum quality illustrations!

This book is a work of art! A charming story of historical interest with museum quality illustrations! This book is the perfect introduction to fine art for a child. Everyone who sees this book falls in love with it ! It is a favorite of my daughter's and mine. Maybe someday I will dress my young daughter in a red dress and have an artist - preferably Cynthia von Buhler - paint her in the folk style of the book!

The authors have a wonderful gift for connecting the mystical to the everyday. They also prove very conclusively that spirituality and abundance are not mutually exclusive, and that money is a form of energy that can be invoked, directed and amplified. The technique that they teach here is built around the sign of increase. Further magical techniques and exercises include the rituals of the black mirror, getting help from your subconscious, reading your dreams and the fivefold Prana sequence for increasing psychic energy. The style is simple and engaging, making for reading enjoyment and stimulating the reader to go through with the interesting exercises. This is an excellent manual on achieving personal prosperity, probably one of the best. The book includes an illustration of the Sign of Increase, a catalog of dream symbols and an index to the practices of creative money-making. It will amply reward the reader if you put the exercises and techniques into practice.

Haunting, Pure Characters Make a Beautiful Tale!

Review Date: 2007-10-17
I read this book for the first time when I was in high school and fell in love with it. I read it again in college, and recently again in my mid-20's. Every time I read it it inspires me. The character of Annie is so unlike your typical protagonist; she is shy, self-deprecating, loyal, insecure, pure, and simply the most precious character you're likely to come across. The love between her and Alec grows so sweetly and unexpectedly that it's a revelation. I cannot recommend this book enough, especially if you are seeking something different from what is mainstream today. It is sweet, and pure, and incredibly beautiful and you will never forget the time you spent in its world. It illustrates what real love is in a way you will carry with you forever.

Michael Phillips did an excellent job of reproducing George MacDonald's Alec Forbes of Howglen. This book has all the touching qualities of a George MacDonald book with all the thought provoking one-liners that we all know George sat and crafted carefully.

Making Sense is an excellent source for those wishing to study world views. It is a clearly written and well-documented book, which demonstrates the validity of the Christian world view as the thinking person's world view. In preparation for world views presentations, I have gone back to this book several times over the last few years. Making Sense is the best all-around book covering the pivotal issues of world views.

I came along Modigilian's Art druing a drawing class. I purchased a small book at a local bookstore first. I was so impressed over the artist and his paintings that I want to learn more about his work. He is a master painter of the early 20 th century. Some of his figures have a sence of sadeness in there way how they look . Some of the poses are oriented on classic old masters.Describtions are given in the book. Also you will see delightful abstract forms and colors. I really can recomend the book to everyone who wants to learn more about this great artist.
The book also shows images of drawings and sculptures.

There have been many publications on Modigliani lately and also many exhibitions (in Paris, London, NY). This particular book, which is the catalogue for a show at the Jewish Museum, is, in my opinion, the most original one in that it attempts to study the artist setting aside all the rest (that is "the myth"). The beautiful reproductions enable the reader to see what a revolutionary portraitist Modigliani was, even sometimes minimalist (to use a fashionable word). The provenance of the works show that he did have early admirers, and not only among his peers or dealers.

That the quadriga (how pretentious!) produced by the author and artist is screamingly funny is to vastly under-rate the brilliance of their oeuvre (oh jeeze...).

Eternal truths about children and the deformative pressures of society upon them are illuminated with style that cuts, bludgeons, and pierces yet produces only tears of laughter.

The books were published in the 1950's and Ronald Searle (b 1920 -) shot to the top decades ago. Geoffry Willans (1911 - 1958) wrote at least a half dozen more books after MOLESWORTH. I read these when in my early twenties; now in my 60s, I can't wait to read them again.

As another reviewer pointed out; these are children's books for adults and adult's books for children but are much, much more than children's books!

This author/illustrator combo deserves far more fame

"Molesworth 2 start blubbing because he have not got the reel RollsRoyce he wanted.." plus the picture of the trap for St. Nick: priceless.
