Peter Telep has really nailed what the "lights and siren" life is all about. I can really relate to his book as an ex-EMT and now independent fire videographer.

I truly hope that he keeps this line of books going. I'm looking forward to reading "Playing With Fire" and "Life Flight".

Kudos to a man who writes things with honesty and down-to-earth style.

With a mind-boggling grasp of trauma handling and on-site treatment, Peter Telep has given us a book that is at once informative, interesting and a definitely interesting read. Let's hope that Peter doesn't get so busy that he overlooks the painful chore of writing again for his readers. A GREAT read!

I REALLY ENJOYED READING THIS BOOK. AFTER READING IT, I COULD HAVE SWORN THE AUTHOR WAS A PARAMEDIC. THE SUPERB STYLE OF HIS WORDING IN THE BOOK, REALLY LEADS A LOT OF CREDIBILITY TO HIS WORK. IT REALLY BLEW MY MIND TO FIND OUT HE IS A ENGLISH PROFESSOR. THIS BOOK KEPT ME UP ALL NIGHT READING. A GOOD BOOK FOR "US" TRAUMA JUNKIES, TO LET US HAVE THAT "ADRENALINE RUSH". WE CAN REALLY GET INTO. THIS BOOK MAKES ME WANT TO RIDE AS A PARAMEDIC. THE BOOK ALSO MAKES ME WANT TO TRY AND WRITE MY OWN BOOK, ON MY EXPERIENCES RIDING UNDER THE LIGHTS AND SIREN. I CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR HIS NEXT BOOK. "LIFE FLIGHT". I HOPE HE CONTINUES TO WRITE MORE IN THE SERIES,"NIGHT ANGLE NINE".

In his three-book "Night Angel 9" series, Peter Telep gets the medical part right. The three novels follow several California paramedics, firefighters, doctors and others through the routine and not so routine calls providing emergency medical services in a large metropolitan city. Unlike some EMS-related books, Peter Telep's descriptions of medical procedures and protocols are accurate and correct.
The books are best read in order, but are equally compelling individually. As the series moves from the first book to the third, the reader gets more involved with the personal lives and problems of Telep's characters, and less with EMS activities. The characters have depth and are believable. Each must deal with his or her own problems. The action on the street is non-stop and keeps the reader's interest. A good read.

Sorry for the screaming the title but I just couldnt help it! What a Read! As one of the previous reviewers has stated this indeed is a masterpiece. I picked up the book because I had some time to kill on a bus ride and wow is all I can say. I finished the book at my destination bus station (thats right, didn't even bother hailing a cab until I was finished) and not one time did my mind stray from the great character development or storyline. I have come to love the characters and feel as if I know them. Peter Telep did a great job with this book. If you are a fan of E.R or Third watch or anything like that PICK UP THIS BOOK and give it a read!

I have also just finished reading the second book in the series called "Playing with Fire" and that is just a wonderfully written as this one.

The only downside that I can see is that this is but a trilogy which means that the next book will be the end. This saddens me. I hope that some way we can get Peter to write more of these wonderful books!

Pick one up you will not be dissapointed!! GREAT READ A+++++

I liked the fact that the author spent enough time in explaining the various exercises in the book.I was really impressed by this, because I've bought other books in the market, and I felt that their messages weren't really clear.I found the book extremely useful, because my clients were already familiar with basic balance ball workouts. The exercise in here, injected some new life into my client's workouts.

Body Sculpt has given me more tools for my at-home workouts. I occasionally use the exercises at the gym and some of my friends are amazed at what can be accomplished with the fitness ball.

This book has great photos and personal training tips to build up your "core" which gets you motivated to try the advanced balance poses and exercises.

If you have a fitness ball and love it, you must get this book. It will re-motivate and amaze you. The results are great and the satisfaction that you can achieve an advanced state is even better.

I'm a fitness instructor looking for more natural exercises to keep my clients away from machines. Paul's PowerSulpt workouts do exactly that. This book has allowed me to build out my client's routnies with safe alternatives to heavy weights and machines and also provides elements of balance and complexity that mimic moves in ways that people do natuarally in everyday life.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Mr. Frediani.

Having been athletically active all of my life, I am nevertheless concerned that, as I get older, my flexibility and balance is deteriorating. Mr.Frediani's book was suggested as presenting a means of improving these attributes. I obtained the book and asked my trainer to incorporate it into my regular workout. We have done so and the results have been very satisfying. I highly recommend use of the exercise ball and Mr. Frediani's book. It adds to my routine elements of pilates and yoga, and makes interesting a workout which otherwise was getting all too routine. By the way, I'm having trouble getting the book back from my trainer.

The exercises look easy but the effort involved is a challenging workout that is very satisfying. This book is not just for women!!! I enjoyed this book and use it daily along with variations from Paul Fredian's other book Surf Flex. I am 56 years old and these exercises have improved my indurance, strength and flexibility.

A magnificent novel set in the rarely depicted early Florida Everyglades, filled with all kind of humanity, told in dialect so true you can still hear it down there. The rise of Big Sugar, the treatment of the blacks, and the notorious J.D. Watson and his numerous ofspring are subtle stories, many of the Roshomon type, or perhaps a Russian epic, but American to the bone, and beautifully written. I'm half-way through and know I'll be sorry when it ends. It should win a Pulitzer at the least, so that more people will read it.

I am amazed to read others say the could not get into "Shadow Country", and having read the trilogy there is no need for another treatment. However, the brilliance of the author and the immediacy of this treatment is so powerful, I want to say it may be the best book by an American writer I have ever read.
The protagonists voices seem to have spoekn directly to the author, who has offered it all up to us, his readers. I feel as though I understand some of the mysteries surrounding the early south Florida - and U.S.) history (such as how could they have knowling nearly wiped out dozens of species of wildlife) were illuminated for me. Long the book took me a month to read, especially as parts inspired rereading.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in an absorbing period of our history, or just a great inspiringr read.

Shadow Country (Modern Library)

I wondered why I should read another 900 pages of the Mr Watson saga. After all, I'd already ready the previous Watson books. But since i am a huge Peter Matthiessen fan I bought the book anyway. Time and money well spent, this is another masterpiece. He takes the reader so deep into the Florida backcountry of yesterday that you, like me, will probably catch yourself thinking in cracker dialect. I know how the story ends but read on in awe anyway. If you like brilliant dialog, well-drawn characters, often tragically flawed, an exotic setting, so near and far from today's Florida, read this book. I loved it!

A truly remarkable rendition of three previous books, cut, condensed, and reworked into one piece. I was utterly captivated throughout the entire almost 900 pages, something I didn't think to be based on the size of the book. The story of an alleged outlaw Florida frontiersman, E.J. Watson, is told from three perspectives; first from the accounts of those backcountry people who lived it, second from an obsessed son, and third from the alleged outlaw himself. This leaves the reader to make their own decision on E.J. Watson's guilt or innocence. Many other themes weigh heavy on the pages of this reworking, most notably the enduring racism toward fellow man, and the desecration of nature. I highly recommend this book.

Peter Benchley was remarkably astute about animals, and generous in his viewpoints. Following the popularity of Jaws (book and film) he recognized his own need to learn more about sharks. This book not only details that animal (without sensationalism), it also contains marvelous stories about other sea creatures--the story of a thankful and enormous manta ray is unforgettable. Benchley also gives precise advice about how to stay alive in any water, and his belief that most drownings could be avoided comes across in a way that makes him seem like one of your best friends.

This is a fine book, and as with the best writing about animal nature, it contains good info for human nature too.

Peter Benchley is a diver who studys sharks and other sea creatures.
He talks about the different types of sharks and how they live in the
sea. He also talks about Moray eels,Blue fish,Barracuda, and other creatures. He says it is important to keep a healthy habbitat for sharks.
I think this book is the best!

SHARK LIfe is exceptionally entertaining and enlightening nonfiction for young adults. Benchley (the author of JAWS) moves back and forth between recounting his own heart-stopping adventures in the sea (sometimes purposely swimming with sharks and other deadly creatures, sometimes accidentally encountering them), and his simple and clear explanations of how man's interference with the balance of the world's oceans has already resulted in some dying regions. He cautions how further degradation of the seas will eventually threaten man's existence on the planet.

I was living in New York City when SHENANDOAH debuted on Broadway, and was fortunate to see this musical twice starring John Cullum as Papa Anderson.
I love the show, never forgot it, and now that CSN in Las Vegas is thinking of producing it, I'm reliving my experiences and enjoyment of SHENANDOAH. Terrific musical; but it is a 3 handky musical. You'll love the romance, fun, and heartbreak of this story of a father who fights for his family, on this wonderful CD.

The best book for describing longsword technique
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-10-01
I am a "newbie" to the longsword. For the last six months I have been studying on my own. I have used other books and publications to try to understand the guard and strike positions. These sources use "static" drawings or photos. This approach makes it difficult to visualize the full movement of a maneuver.

The authors of "Sigmund Ringeck's Knightly Art of the Longsword" converted photos to drawings. The drawings include arrows that represent the flow of the maneuver. It is much easier to get a complete visual image of the technique being discussed.

If you plan to "go it alone"; I would recommend this book above all others.

This is a seemingly accurate and easy to follow presentation. Manuals like this are hard to find. I was able to take it and within the space of a week employ many new gambits in my practice. I would have considered most of these beforehand to be inaplicable at speed or too awkward to quickly learn. Very direct and clearly illistrated. If you're part of any of the medieval re-enactment groups out there this book will be very rewarding.

For me, this book is a "Gone With The Wind" with young adults in mind, but great for all ages. Like the "Little House ..." books, it describes the rural life of a family and village before industrialization changed everything. The quality of life these people had, despite the workload, is something to be admired.

The book is a wonderful sequal to "The Good Master," another wonderful tale. While the first book is more of a typical chidren's book, this one is much more of an epic as the family deals with the ravages of war. The themes of tolerance and family values are well expressed without ever getting preachy.

Kate and Jancsi are fantastic characters for children to identify with, and the adults make fine examples for them to look up to. The illustrations are wonderful. This book will make you laugh, cry and everything in between. It's one of the books I re-read every now and again, and it's stood the test of 30+ years worth of reading. I treasure it.

This is one of the most powerful books on human cost of war ever written. As a child, I loved this sequel to Seredy's _The Good Master_ because I loved the characters and found the story exciting. As an adult, I cannot even think about the book without finding tears in my eyes. The little details are what does it I think: the child who goes to sleep saying goodnight to his soldier father, unaware that his father is permantly asleep under a blanket of snow; the singing tree of the title, the retelling of the spontaneous cease-fire on Christmas when the troops on both sides of the line sang Silent Night, the moment when Janci realizes the pain his mother is hiding, the corporal who sadly observes that in war it's a man's duty to kill and a crime to comfort his wife .... Read it!

This gorgeous giant book, measuring in at 16" x 12", capture the beauty and uniqueness of Ireland through spectacular photographs. At times in this book, not only do you see a panoramic photograph spanning two 16" wide pages, some actually extend further through a folding flap to measure over 38" wide! In addition to the beautiful photographs the authors have included detailed written descriptions.

People of all ages that are interested in the history, landscape, and culture of Ireland will thoroughly enjoy this book. The list price is $75 according to the inside flap, making it a bargain at the current Amazon price.

First of all, please note that this is a coffee table-type book. It is oversized and oddly-shaped. So if that bothers you, steer clear.

BUT the size is very appropriate to the pictures! It's a large-rectangular book that fits the panoramic wide-angle photography inside of it! The photos are intensely colored and the paper used in side the book is a thicker, glossy high-quality paper. Some of the most gorgeous photographs of Irelands landscapes, castles and towns are in this book. It also includes a bit of history.

FYI... the book normally comes with a slip-cover that has the same cover design printed on it that the actual book cover underneath has. Nice touch. A lot of books of this fashion do not have the same cover printed on the actual book itself, but only the slip-cover.

Very nice. If you love photography or Ireland...or both....this is the book for you!

Stink is a short guy. Stink writes a report about the 6th president ,James Madison .He writes it because Madison was the shortest president. Stink wants Madison on the State Quarter. Will they give it to him? Read the book and see!
The Author's message is if you short you can grow to be tall. Don't be
afraid or feel bad about yourself. Our class picked it because it is funny.
Its great because it has comic in side.

My daughter was introduced to this book at preschool and begged us to buy it for her. We all love the engaging drawings, the simple but very cute story and the repetitive opportunity to holler Stoooop thaaat Pickle! A very cute book, worth searching out. Especially good for Jewish kids in place of The Gingerbread Boy, or for city kids, given the colorful street scenes throughout.

Still a favorite after 7 years

All four of our kids have this book memorized and love to read it. It's timeless. Highly recommended. Sometimes they will quote lines from the book upon seeing a nearly empty pickle jar.
A great choice!

I heard the book read aloud in a teacher's certification reading class and ordered it for my 7 year old daughter. She loves to read and enjoys new books. She has me read it often even though she has read it herself and has her own copy. She took it to school her first day of 2nd grade and her teacher let her read to the class. The teacher enjoyed the book. I will be sharing the book with the 2nd grade teacher I am working with for my field placement.

This is a wild & crazy book!

My three year old grandson loves "Stop That Pickle!," and has listened to it so many times that he just about has it memorized! This is the story of a runaway pickle that is chased by a crowd that includes a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, seventeen salted almonds, and a bottle of grape soda--and the illustrations are off-the-wall, too. But this is Sam's alltime favorite book. It's fun to read, and none of us adults have are tired of that crazy pickle's adventure.

MY STUDENTS LOVED IT!!!!

I was a student in college and picked upthis book from the library to read to my class. They were rolling in the aisles when they heard the story. Thatwas 5 years ago,and I still hear from them about their memories of this story. You will laugh so hard your cheeks will hurt.
