A Wold Newton heroic delightReview Date: 2006-10-12
Myths for the Modern Age is worth it for the Captain Nemo is Moriarty piece alone, not to mention the fabulous cover, complete with Modesty Blaise!
Here you have a collection of essays that inter-relate various characters, families and other information, by several different authors, including a compatriot, as well as Eckert himself, not to mention Farmer himself, so you could call this an anthology.
Please be aware that this is not a novel, if that is what you are looking for.
Eckert has a passion for this stuff, yes, you could call it obsessive monomania, but that is what collecting, which is really what this is all about, 'collecting' characters into universes and relationships, and utter, utter, fandom.
He is also a Philip Jose Farmer expert, to boot.
This is just fantastic stuff. Check out his and Farmer's various websites too, they are great. There are also related mailing lists that are worth it, if you are interested to this level.
Something else I have found : if you ask these authors a question, or anything like that, they will answer. They are completely devoted.
Outstanding book, in presentation, content, and participation. I am sure Farmer is quite pleased.
5 out of 5

I am also lucky enough to have been accepted into the Johns Hopkins University's Master of Arts in Writing Program. I showed this book to one of my instructors and he was fascinated by it. I gave him the nutshell explanation of WNU and told him that, after I get my degree, I would like to teach a course or two about it. If you are already an English/Writing teacher, please do the same. Let's srpead the fun around!!!

What It Takes To Make An Excellent BookReview Date: 2001-07-28
I truly hope that he keeps this line of books going. I'm looking forward to reading "Playing With Fire" and "Life Flight".
Kudos to a man who writes things with honesty and down-to-earth style.

The books are best read in order, but are equally compelling individually. As the series moves from the first book to the third, the reader gets more involved with the personal lives and problems of Telep's characters, and less with EMS activities. The characters have depth and are believable. Each must deal with his or her own problems. The action on the street is non-stop and keeps the reader's interest. A good read.

WHAT A READ!!!!!Review Date: 2001-06-05
I have also just finished reading the second book in the series called "Playing with Fire" and that is just a wonderfully written as this one.
The only downside that I can see is that this is but a trilogy which means that the next book will be the end. This saddens me. I hope that some way we can get Peter to write more of these wonderful books!
Pick one up you will not be dissapointed!! GREAT READ A+++++

Great HeroineReview Date: 2007-06-27
I liked the other characters too---an evil Vatican bureaucrat, the snarky art dealer, a Buddhist monk, & others. Add an exciting plot & fascinating background on religious history and you've got a great read. Definitely recommended!
Lots to think aboutReview Date: 2007-06-20
The Painter's Gift has lots of adventure, a dollop of mysticism & an exciting plot. Scholars find an ancient scroll that prophesies a new world vision. According to the scroll, the key to the vision will be found in 3 special paintings, and so the hunt is on. The search team consists of a beautiful widow (also a visionary), a Benedictine monk, a religious scholar, & a handsome art historian who work frantically to find the paintings before the villains.
Perhaps because of the author's English/American background, the Painter's Gift includes fascinating background on the Manhattan art scene (shallow), religious symbolism (I'll never look at church spires the same way) & the history of England's magical Glastonbury, home to King Arthur & Guinevere.
All in all, a great book with lots to think about.
You can judge it by it's cover.Review Date: 2007-05-12
Penelope vividly portrays the paintings which are the backbone of the story. Barbara Brockelman cleverly illustrates on the book cover, clues that speak of the main character, and perhaps the reader. Two thumbs up, ladies. Thank-you !!
Great Summer Read! Review Date: 2007-05-02
A pleasantly surprising novelReview Date: 2007-05-30
In their supremely positive visions, Holt (with words) and the protagonist (with a brush) paint warm strokes that relay a message of healing after loss. Not only does the protagonist's (Manhattan artisan Claire Lucas) radiant painting soften the hardest hearts but is a nod to the reader's sense of wonder and fertile imagination. Additionally, the story leans slightly on a Dan Brown-esque critique of religious status quo themes. But, thankfully, Brown's obsession with detail doesn't show up. Essentially, the story revolves around simpler themes of remorse and joy; loss and renewal; and embitterment and faith.
Holt presents an interesting concoction of romance and quasi-religious mystery that blends quite seamlessly. She has crafted a pleasantly surprising novel and a solid, quick read. I recommend this book despite the maudlin self-doubt that possesses Claire but quickly fades as the story progresses.

Clear, concise and diverse.Review Date: 2006-03-23
I liked the fact that the author spent enough time in explaining the various exercises in the book.I was really impressed by this, because I've bought other books in the market, and I felt that their messages weren't really clear.I found the book extremely useful, because my clients were already familiar with basic balance ball workouts. The exercise in here, injected some new life into my client's workouts.
A great total body experience!!Review Date: 2004-05-25
This book has great photos and personal training tips to build up your "core" which gets you motivated to try the advanced balance poses and exercises.
If you have a fitness ball and love it, you must get this book. It will re-motivate and amaze you. The results are great and the satisfaction that you can achieve an advanced state is even better.

I love the show, never forgot it, and now that CSN in Las Vegas is thinking of producing it, I'm reliving my experiences and enjoyment of SHENANDOAH. Terrific musical; but it is a 3 handky musical. You'll love the romance, fun, and heartbreak of this story of a father who fights for his family, on this wonderful CD.

The best book for describing longsword techniqueReview Date: 2008-10-01
The authors of "Sigmund Ringeck's Knightly Art of the Longsword" converted photos to drawings. The drawings include arrows that represent the flow of the maneuver. It is much easier to get a complete visual image of the technique being discussed.
If you plan to "go it alone"; I would recommend this book above all others.

Timeless Classic!Review Date: 2003-01-19
The book is a wonderful sequal to "The Good Master," another wonderful tale. While the first book is more of a typical chidren's book, this one is much more of an epic as the family deals with the ravages of war. The themes of tolerance and family values are well expressed without ever getting preachy.
Kate and Jancsi are fantastic characters for children to identify with, and the adults make fine examples for them to look up to. The illustrations are wonderful. This book will make you laugh, cry and everything in between. It's one of the books I re-read every now and again, and it's stood the test of 30+ years worth of reading. I treasure it.

A Must Have!Review Date: 2006-06-08
BUT the size is very appropriate to the pictures! It's a large-rectangular book that fits the panoramic wide-angle photography inside of it! The photos are intensely colored and the paper used in side the book is a thicker, glossy high-quality paper. Some of the most gorgeous photographs of Irelands landscapes, castles and towns are in this book. It also includes a bit of history.
FYI... the book normally comes with a slip-cover that has the same cover design printed on it that the actual book cover underneath has. Nice touch. A lot of books of this fashion do not have the same cover printed on the actual book itself, but only the slip-cover.
Very nice. If you love photography or Ireland...or both....this is the book for you!
