Great book! Who would have thought Connecticut was once teeming with dinosaurs? This book tells the complete tale, and includes trips that transport you back to the age of dinosaurs. Great storytelling-from the discoveries of the past to new theories about dinosaurs being proposed today. Original illustrations of CT Valley dinosaurs. A great book for families looking to get out and do something different or to give as a unique, "made in CT" gift. Guaranteed to be a hit with dinosaur fans or fans of local history.

A great book for hikers, birders or anyone who likes to get out and explore. I spent years hiking the same old woodsy places-until I discovered this book and all sorts of neat new places
I never knew existed. Would make for a nifty gift. Loved the black spruce bog and traprock ridges. I keep mine in the glove compartment(where it's always within reach)!

Many books exist today, especially in homeschooling circles, promoting reading of the classics - usually with long lists of books which are perfect for bookworms but frankly scare non-readers away. What Perry's book does is build a non-threatening bridge between some basic but really excellent pieces of literature and Christian non-readers to get them reading. So many churches are full of non-readers, which is tragic because reading is crucial for learning biblical truth. This book can help seasoned believers escort their Chrisian non-reading friends toward the classics gradually. Nothing quite like it exists and I applaud it! I think it could be a great resource for homeschooling and discipling parents wanting to help their kids read from a biblical worldview too.

Perry is the Bomb!

I am a certified spiritual therapist, an ordained minister (twice), a professional astrologer and a student of A Course in Miracles. I had a hard time reconciling these things until I read this book. Perry takes the age-old art of guidance and makes sense of it.

He deals with "inner" and "outer" guidance from intuition to billboards, shows their value, and establishes a realistic hierarchy. Now, I feel better about practicing my different disciplines and know that each can play a role in helping people reach their fullest potential.

Most of all, he helps you find the most powerful guidance there is, if and when you are ready for it, based on the teachings of A Course in Miracles.

I recommend this and everything else he's written

If you have ever sought guidance of any kind and questioned your sanity, this book is for you!

I found this book to be extremely helpful in working through the complex rules of ASCE 7-98. The authors selected examples which introduce some of the pitfalls that are common in apply the standards provisions. I used the book to validate an excel spreadsheet for Wind calculations, and I only found a couple of minor errors in the entire book.

When I think of childhood companions, Miffy and Hello Kitty make that list. This was my favorite "Miffy" book when I was young and now that it is popular once more I can read it to my 5 year-old sister-in-law. "Miffy In The Snow" is young Miffy's adventure in the lovely winter white powder that all kids adore! Miffy is such a delightful character for any young (or young-at-heart) person! If you have any ankle-biters in your house, "Miffy" is sure to please. And even if you don't, "Miffy" is sure to bring back some fond memories!

Halfway Home - Jackie K. Cooper
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-06-15
One of my favorite Georgia authors is Jackie K Cooper who lives in Perry, Georgia, and has visited my store several times for autograph sessions or just to stop in to say hello. I had read his previous books and looked forward to this book, "Halfway Home."

This book is a collection of short stories, many of which hit so close to home for me, like when he got to travel in the backseat of a police car. He was traveling north on I-75 o n his way to Atlanta to preview a movie and then interview the star of the movie. The traffic came to a complete stop (nothing particularly unusual for Atlanta as we all know) but the driver behind him didn't stop. After the police came and the tow truck towed his car off to a storage yard he was stranded on 75 so the officer kindly said that he would take him to the Ritz -Carlton in Buckhead if Jackie could help him find it. I thought that all police officers knew how to find anyplace that you needed to go, but not in Atlanta! This officer lived in Alabama and drove to Atlanta each day that he was scheduled to work so he didn't know where this prestigious hotel was located. Now it was time to get into the police car. As Jackie started to open the front door of the police car the officer said that he would have to ride in the back where they put all tough criminals. He sure didn't want anyone to see him at the Ritz getting out of the backseat of a police car, so he had the officer drop him out in the parking lot of the Lenox Mall and then lugged his bags to the Ritz. I could really sympathize with him in his viewpoint of riding in the backseat of the police car because I have had the same experience after a car accident and my car was towed away. His experience was funny while mine was nerve wracking to say the least!

Then there is Jackie's cat story. Jackie is a "cat person" having an indoor cat that accidentally got out without anyone noticing that he was gone. The cat was overjoyed to get back into the safety of his home, literally jumping into Jackie's arms when he opened the door. Jackie's cat stayed out less than 24 hours, while ours stayed out for 2 days one time, but she was just as glad to get back inside the house as his was.

Jackie has had trouble getting people in recognizing that his name is Jackie. I had a similar problem with teachers at school and church who insisted that my real name was James not Jimmie. My mother would have to bring my birth certificate to convince her that I knew what my name was.

Jackie also had an experience with the Great Flood of 94. I had an experience with a flood not in 94 but just last year in 2005. Hurricane Dennis was far away but the rains were here! I was in the den working on my computer when my wife Fran said frantically, "Quick come look out the bay window! We have a river flowing just outside the window!" Now I thought that she was exaggerating. So I slowly made my way to the living room to look at HER river. She was right and we ended up wading out of the house in water waist deep.

So sit back, pick up Jackie's book "Halfway Home" and start to learn who Jackie is through his writings. You might even see yourself in some of the stories.
