The word `Watergate' usually brings up negative thoughts like political corruption and national disgrace. In God Behind Bars: The Inspiring Story of Prison Fellowship, John Perry opens with some general information about America's prison system, along with a concise review of the Watergate story and the circumstances that resulted in Colson's prison time. Colson became a Christian before his sentence started, and while behind bars he was able to minister to his fellow inmates. Following his release after five months, Colson eventually felt God calling him into full-time prison ministry, and the path to establishing Prison Fellowship began to unfold.

Perry Hassell has written a masterpiece in this collection of short stories which range from the really touching "Eyes of God" to the deeply moving "Bubba Einstein" to the outright belly laugh, tongue-in-cheek "The Damnedest Thing About Salvation." One of my favorites was a story of a snooty woman who had inadvertently joined in on a impromptu save-the-whale crisis team, only to have the whale "rebeach" itself--the nerve of the thing! Read this book, give this book, quote this book in sermons or simply talk about it with your friends. They will call you wise!

Although this volume is a complete story arc, starting just after the Time Warp arc ends, I recommend starting from the beginning with Gold Digger Pocket Manga Volume 1. However, even if you get this volume first, you'll love the series so much you'll have to have them all.

Volume 9 has unique cover art. The covers for the 5 issues that are contained within are depicted on the Contents page in black and white (one page has all 5 covers). There is a Main Character overview page featuring brief bios of all three Diggers sisters and Stripe. This time Fred Perry's beautiful art and inspired storytelling get the star treatment they deserve in this collection.

The only possible complaint I have is that the covers of the originals don't get a full page in this book, which also leaves out an easy to see break between issues. But that is not really a big enough deal to hold anyone back from buying this well-done compliation.

Gold Diggers is a fun walk through a world most of us will only ever dream about - that of rich, beautiful & privileged Londoners.

The book ranks right up there with some of my favorite British chic lit, such as titles by Jane Green and Marian Keyes, but Perry gives her story a nice Sex & the City-like treatment.

It's really the perfect thing to throw in your bag for vacation this summer.

As a mom, I was very happy to see that there was a series of books that had a main character that resembled my daughter and talked about issues she could relate to. In addition to that, it is all from a Christian perspective. These books are kind of like an anomaly, but they are so needed in a society where young girls lack morals and self respect. I bought all the books in the Carmen Browne series for my daughter and will continue to support the author by giving the books as gifts. For the author - KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

It is originally a Japanese book, and is a huge hit. And every (literally every) child in Korea owns this book.

This is also my baby's favorite book. It is a very simple and elegant story. The moon comes out and Cloud passes by, hiding Moon's face temporarily. My baby (13 months old) points and yells at Cloud for stepping in Moon's face. It's hilarious!

My baby loves this book so much, so I bought two of them: both Korean and English versions.

This comprehensive collection edited by Elizabeth Perry and Merle Goldman explores recent trends in grassroots political reform in China. With contributions by well-established China scholars and rising stars alike, this volume offers a detailed view into reform attempts to restrain arbitrary and corrupt authorities and enhance overall accountability at the grassroots level. The authors do not argue that China is on a path to democracy. To the contrary, Perry and Goldman are quite upfront about the fact that reforms may actually serve to prolong the life of the communist party. The articles in this volume are based on extensive fieldwork and offer detailed glimpses into various aspects of grassroots reform, including topics such as village elections, tax reform, and rule of law.

Although written for an academic audience, the content of this volume will also be of interest to anyone wishing to learn more about reform in China. Of particular interest for a lay audience may be Xi Chen's chapter on protest, Yuezhi Zhao and Sun Wusan's chapter on reform and constraints of the media, and Richard Levy's chapter on village elections and anticorruption. Scholars already familiar with the works of the contributors will find little that has not be iterated elsewhere, but the volume is significant in that it deals with a timely issue in a systematic and helpful fashion.
