Whoa, finished reading it last night, and can't yet bear to loan it to anyone. The book itself is alive, with ooh, such rich rich language, such a dedicated finely crafted narrative down to the last line. Want to re-read and quote passages. The humming vital poetic deep ironic language of Jamaican is such a vital tonic to the world's brew of what we must know. And I too, found this book, dusty, in an eccentric venue, while having a conversaion about Perry Henzell (who made the movie.) Aha! Synchronous grace. And thought "hmm..what's this?" I'd just read Perry Henzell's "Power Game", which was pretty cool. But this is a masterpiece. (It would be wildly amusingly great if it were required reading for anyone travelling to Jamaica. Just so you know wha's up. Look and feel deeply into things.)
May the reader like Sidney in the book: "Praises to Jah, Pedro exulted silently. Sidney fin' 'im heart."

This book is a treasure that I happened to come across in a 'discount bin' at a bookstore - but like so many of the books that are greatly reduced in price, this one is truly priceless . . . I have always been interested in Jamaican culture and society, and just finished reading Timothy White's 'Catch a Fire - The Life of Bob Marley' which was the perfect way to get in the mindset for Michael Thelwell's masterpiece 'The Harder They Come.' This book is not simply a tale of the legendary Rhygin who was a hero of the common Jamaican sufferah, but also a glimpse into the life of Jamaicans following the period of British colonial rule - So many themes are present in the novel - the contrast between country and city, the traditions and myths of those living in the bush, the hand to mouth existence of so many Jamaican poor that live in Kingston, the power struggle of politics and law, as well as the ganja trade which somehow effects all Jamaicans . . .

This book will immerse you in Jamaican culture, and I'm not talking about the resorts on the coast - this is the real deal and is a must read!

Not a cheap novelization, but a work with its own life. Unforgettable story about Babylon and its impact upon the poor of Jamaica. If you are a fan of the movie, or if you are not, this is a good one for you.

Although I thoroughly enjoy Love Inspired books, its Suspense collection hasn't appealed to me, until now. I can't resist books about the Amish, so this particular Love Inspired Suspense book caught my eye! Even though the main characters are not Amish, their lives have become more meaningful living amongst the Amish, influenced by the Amish lifestyle and traditions. This story contained important lessons about what's important in our lives - not fame and high-powered jobs, but family and the simpler pleasures in life. Very inspiring! I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in this series!

I am really enjoying the "The Three Sisters Inn" suspense series. I read the second book in the series first. Then just had to read the first book also. A very well written series that keeps the reader on her toes throughout, for the suspense is unending and the ending unpredictable till the reader finishes the book. A book you won't want to put down till you finish it.

Andrea Hampton is the successful sister; important job, important opinions, important woman. Sister Rachel stayed home with their grandmother and is determined to turn the family home into a bed and breakfast. Andrea doesn't approve. But when Rachel is injured in a hit and run accident, Andrea drops everything to hurry to her bedside. You take care of family.
Unfortunately, Andrea has to swerve to avoid an Amish buggy on a dark road and ends up in the ditch. Calvin Burke rescues her and takes her to the hospital to see Rachel. Andrea is grateful until she learns he is her grandmother's tenant. Not everyone in town wants another bed and breakfast, and things begin to happen, some of them very dangerous. Andrea, who is used to doing everything herself, has to learn who she can trust.
Hiding in Plain Sight is a suspenseful story of intrigue and romance, salted with a strong faith message. Things aren't always the way they seem and it's easy to trust the wrong people. Fans of Marta Perry will enjoy Hiding In Plain Sight.

Andrea Hampton is used to the safety and security of her big city job. However, nothing will keep her from running back to her sister's side after Rachel is involved in a horrific accident. But helping Rachel and her grandmother open up a bed and breakfast? Ridiculous...and yet that is the position she finds herself in. Carpenter Cal Burke seems willing to help. Just what is going on with this rash of accidents plaguing the inn and its owners?

I read the first two books of The Three Sisters Inn series out of order, but the overall beauty of this series remains intact; HIDE IN PLAIN SIGHT is the first book and an excellent start to the series.

Marta Perry creates such beautiful settings for her tales. HIDE IN PLAIN SIGHT is set in the heart of Amish country. The peaceful setting provides a sharp contrast to the increasingly dangerous attacks on the Hampton family. In fact, the atmosphere accentuates the danger that lurks in this seemingly tranquil environment.

Marta Perry develops characters the reader wants to revisit over and over again. Andrea's transformation over the course of the book is a joy to behold. The issues of faith are sensitively addressed through the eyes of both Andrea and Cal. The importance of family and friends is especially notable in HIDE IN PLAIN SIGHT.

HIDE IN PLAIN SIGHT is yet another fantastic book from Marta Perry. I am quickly becoming a fan of both Marta Perry and the Love Inspired Suspense line as both evoke such strong emotions. Easily recommended!

Essential resource for parents trying to deal with the heartbreak of a daughter's pregnancy
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-27
No! Neither of my teens are going to have a baby! Just to get that immediately out of the way. :) The publishers of How to Survive Your Teen's Pregnancy by Linda Ellen Perry sent me a copy and asked me to review it, because while I haven't been a parent whose had to face this, I was a teen mom myself. I'll never forget the way I had to tell my parents that I was pregnant; I had hoped to procrastinate as long as possible. But Mom had made an appointment for me to get my MMR booster shot the next day, and I was afraid that there may be birth defects if I went ahead with the shot, so I had to drop the bomb on them two weeks before school started. I wish now that they had a book like this to turn to for advice, and that we had a better support system through our church and community. While Dad tried to remain calm and talk sensibly, Mom was broken and couldn't bear to discuss the details.

If I could go back and change things, I wouldn't change the big stuff (getting married, keeping my baby), because if I did, I wouldn't have the two beautiful older kids I have, but I would change the way that my parents and I interacted in the two weeks before I was quickly married and moved out. Perry has years of experience counseling teens and their parents, and she uses that knowledge to create a workbook for parents that takes them step by step through the first discovery through the birth of the baby with stops along the way for forgiving their daughter, the baby's father, and the themselves. She encourages with Scripture and uses different Bible stories and some Christian fiction to help bring deeper understanding to the situation. Perry urges parents to really listen to their daughter to help her come up with a viable plan for her and her child. She supports both adoption and parenting with the pros and cons of both laid out neatly. This is a Christian book, so while abortion is mentioned, she encourages every other option and includes statistics about possible outcomes if a teenage girl has or is forced to have an abortion.

The book includes resources for parents with places to find Christian and pro-life doctors, adoption agencies, pregnancy resource centers, and more. While some of the activities for dealing with the emotions were a little artsy for me (I can't imagine drawing pictures or making a collage to express myself), for others it may be just what's needed. It took my parents and I several years to repair the damage done by my pregnancy and my attitude toward them during it. While a parent can't change their child's reaction to the pregnancy, mothers and fathers can change how they react, hopefully bringing healing and growth. This book is a fantastic resource for helping them to work through the grief, anger, and guilt that follows a teen's pregnancy.

Linda Ellen Perry has not only written a book, she's written from years of experience from guiding teens who found themselves pregnant before they were ready. Perry gives real-life advice to help parents work through all the issues they will face. The book is practical and Biblical, helping you work through things such as forgiveness, adoption possibilities, your teen parenting alone and what she needs from the adults in her life, welcoming a new baby into your home, and tons of resources. This is only a partial list for Perry has addressed every angle of the challenges faced when your daughter says those words, "Mom, Dad, I'm pregnant".

This is not an easy situation to find yourself in - the pregnancy of a teen - but this book really helps you look at the situation and consider steps to take. It also provides encouragment to the parent and gives you a chance to focus on your hurt in the midst of the situation, while still helping you help your daughter make smart choices. A fantastic resource for any parent who is going through this difficult time. Pastors would also benefit from reading and having this book on hand for when the situation arises.

You have two problems inherent to writing a Seventh Doctor adventure featuring the Cybermen. One is that the Past Doctor Adventures were meant to be more traditional Who tales, in the vein of what you would see on the screen, which isn't a problem for any Doctor but the Seventh, since Virgin spent a good sixty books expanding and deepending his character, making him vastly darker and complex. After reading all that, it's hard to go back to the initial quote-flubbing, pratfalling version. Secondly, the Cybermen, like fellow oldtimers the Daleks, are hard to make scary on the printed page, because a lot of the appeal was visual. The sights of the silver giants striding through the old black and white serials, blank faced and implacable, are genuinely unsettling and it's hard to bring that across on paper. And yet, this book succeeds for the most part simply by keeping things moving so rapidly that you don't have a chance to really think about the plot gyrations. The Doctor and Ace, sometime after "Survival" but before the New Adventures really got underway, land in London during the Blitz, and quickly get wrapped up in the various mysteries that don't seem to be connected but of course actually are. To this end the duo get teamed up with an American PI living in London and a local detective, as it becomes clear that a bunch of people are after something lurking about in London, something that will turn out to be remarkably unpleasant. For the most part the Cybermen are window dressing here, acting as catalysts but not actively engaging themselves in any sort of plan (in fact, this story harkens back to the old school Cyberman story in that their plan, from what we can figure of it, really doesn't make any sense) and the bulk of the action being handled by all the people scrambling about trying to take advantage of their presence. Since they don't really speak, their impact is a bit lessened and while this is probably better than having them by the macho gun-toting Cybermen of later years, all they really say is "You will be like us" over and over again. The authors do get a lot of mileage out of the horror of Cyber-conversion, including one particular scene that was about as disturbing as you can get. The Doctor is portrayed fairly well, keeping the manipulative streak that was becoming apparent while managing to pull off his buffoon act in a convincing fashion, making the moments when he starts to take control all the more effective. The novel does suffer from trying to do too many things at once, the two most interesting supporting characters, McCabe and Mullen, sort of vanish in the last quarter of the book as the action increases, and Ace herself disappears for a good chunk as well. The villains, while nasty, aren't that memorable, and the ultimate foe winds up being (sigh) Nazis, who are about as generic as Nazis come (and it doesn't help that we just saw Cybermen versus Nazis in, oh, "Silver Nemesis"). But it winds up being good, clean fun, not groundbreaking but not terrible either, managing to tell an entertaining story and probably being the first non-embarrassing Cyberman story to come down the pike in some time, which in itself is a feat.

Great Dr. WHO? Novel.

Let me explain something. I love the Daleks. Ok? I really love them and always thought of Cybermen as, so-so. But this book is great. The setting, the time period, the characters all really come alive. Even the feel is of a Dr WHO? TV episode. Now if they can only get the Dalek Novels to be this good, but frankly, this is the only Dr. WHO Novel that I have had so far that is right up there, in plot and charcters, with a Dr. WHO? TV episode. Great stuff. Loved Ace. The Cybermen were ok too.

Oh, the scene with the Panzer vs. the Cybermen was cool.

I dunno. I really love the 7th Doctor and Ace, but this book didn't do it for me completely. Partly because they are separated for a large part of it, and I love their chemistry together. I can't say I didn't enjoy this book though. In fact, I liked it quite a bit, but it was lacking in parts. It tried to accomplish quite a bit, but wasn't quite able to perfectly. Still, I recommend it to 7th doctor fans. END

It's London, 1940 - and as World War Two rages, the Doctor and Ace team-up with PI Cody McBride to look into what appears initially to be a secret Nazi weapon. In truth, the sphere contains a Cyberman...

There's something about the Seventh Doctor that seems to require writers gives us stories that feature Cybermen and Nazis - first 'Silver Nemesis' and now this. However, unlike the twenty-fifth anniversary story, this one works!

Flowing quite neatly on from the established relationship between the Doctor and Ace - it is very trusting and mutually reliant. This places it in distinct contrast with the earlier written New Adventures published by Virgin, which focussed on the Doctor's emerging manipulative nature and the strain it placed on his friendship with Ace.

The Cyberman in this story is a return to a classic monster - somewhat spoiled by the ridiculous "allergy" to gold introduced in 'Revenge of the Cybermen', this aspect is not considered in this book and therefore the task of the Doctor and his allies is much more real and dangerous.

A good example of how to write a traditional Seventh Doctor story, and a welcome return to a strong portrayal of a classic Who monster.

I hate thinking of a review title...

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the atmosphere of the story, the air raids, just the whole WWII theme. Like Ace, I think it would be fascinating to visit that era of history. It would have been better if the Doctor and Ace had been together more in the book as their characters compliment each other so well. It was nice to see the Cybermen back, (well, not *nice* since they killed people, but you DW fans will understand) and I found the majority of the characters interesting and likeable in their own ways. I think any fan of the 7th Doctor would enjoy this story.

Much as I enjoy Perry's Jane Whitfield tales, I regret that his wonderful pre-Jane novels are almost all out of print: Butcher's Boy, Big Fish, Metzger's Dog, and especially Island. These books all side with hard-boiled yet intrepid, dryly humorous (sometimes hilarious) bands of petty larcenists stealing from even worse characters than themselves. Island has a married couple absconding with the Mob's money, which they use to create a pile of garbage on a sandbar somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle. They then announce the creation of a new nation (and tax haven), import some Native North Americans for an instant indigenous population, and they're off. Complications ensue as the years pass, bigger fish take an interest in Harry and Margaret's scam, and the islanders start forgetting it's all a scheme and begin to get downright patriotic about their tiny island paradise--much to Harry's consternation. Perry has rarely shown the whimsical touch and dry humor in his Whitfield stories as he did in Island and his other early works. I advise anyone finding a mystery-themes used book store to hoover up any old Perry volumes you can find...

Island is possibly one of the best caper mysteries ever. Certainly the best I've ever read. Thomas Perry has the unique gift of creating both interesting characters and an engaging and complex thriller/caper plot. His other books are all must reads but this one is a stand alone as we watch how a group of con-artists running from the mob attempt to pull off one of the biggest cons ever-- it's not everyone who can make their own country.

This book is one of a kind. Its heroes are con men but it is not a crime novel. It involves spies and invading armies but it is not a thriller.

Perhaps the best clue is the beginning quotation, which is from Thomas More's UTOPIA. This book is about the perfect country, as desgned by a con man. It is hilarious, suspenseful, and a good, thoughtful, read.

I cannot wait to start making a quilt using the designs in this book! If you've seen a quilt with roses, irises, daisies...before and weren't impressed, try this book for designs that are fresh and clean. According to this book, a lot of the designs of the 1920's-1950's were based off of these. I have not seen these patterns used in this way ever before. In this book you will find patterns for many flowers including: iris (pictured on the cover), daisy, may tulips, poppy, white dogwood (fabulous!), french baskets, and a very beautiful grapes and vines pattern.

If you've never appliqued before, this book will be a challenge to you. The instructions are written for a quilter with some experience. The beginning of the book gives wonderful details of the life of Marie Webster who is the original creator of these designs.

I also enjoyed Marie Webster's Gardent of Quilts which, I think would be a bit easier for a beginner eager to try traditional designs.

This is a superb book for anyone interested in American quilts of the 20th century. I was intrigued to discover that Marie Webster's designs, introduced to the public as early as 1912, were the originals from which "traditional" quilt patterns of the 1920's and 1930's were derived. These include the sunbonnets (gentle here, not saccharine), the poppy applique, and the medallion floral appliques. Also, it was an eye-opener to see Webster's dogwood and sunflower designs, extremely close variants of which were popularized years later by a manufacturer of quilt batting. The photography is excellent, and the book is printed on beautiful heavy-stock paper. The essays (written by Webster's grand-daughter) are joyful and respectful and a pleasure to read. The book includes patterns for 12 of the quilts shown. I can hardly wait to get started with my needle.

This book changed my life and my career. Reading it made me certain I was in the wrong place, in the wrong industry at the wrong time (for me). Companies that adhere to the tenets of LP&P will not have the retention issues most companies are dealing with today. People are drawn to and loyal to bosses who hold them in positive regard. Such companies are out there. Such leaders do exist and together they attract the best and brightest and the profits take care of themselves.

There are "how to treat people" books out -- and tons of "how to make more profit" books. Mark this book as one of the very few that integrates the themes with effective, believable ideas about how to manage more productively (and humanely!) tomorrow. One neologism worth noting in this book: altrupreneur. The word symbolizes the writers' core idea: that you can be an entrepreneur while being altruistic. You don't have to exploit to advance, they say, in convincing, straightforward language, statistics, and quotes.

Altrupreneur: One who conducts the affairs of an enterprise with conspicuous regard for the welfare of others." An excellent concept and philosophy that we should all learn to grasp as we operate in today's business environment. Nagle and Pascarella, very successful in their own right, quickly get to the essence of the successful business formula. It comes down to people! They cover the gamut from "Healing the Wounds of Betrayal," to "Creating a Mindset for Change," to "Building Community from Complexity." They reference that to the alrtupreneur, the company is a system but not just a system; it is something more human than that--itis a community. Furthermore, the new covenant being established in the altrupreneurial workplace exchanges accountability and continuous improvement for a reasonable and competitive income and continued opportunities for employability. This is best summarized by two quotes in the book; 1) "Did you do what I told you?" the traditional manager, versus 2) "What results did you get?" What did you learn? today's effective manager. An excellent book, with excellent insights. I have personally purchased a number of these and have passed them on to CEOs of both small and large firms with which I do business!

Clear insight on how both people and companies can grow.

The truly successful organizations in the next century will be those that learn how to engage and energize the creativity an enthusiasm of their human assets. This is the next frontier in competitive advantage. In fact, there's always likely to be someone out there who can outspend you on those things. What makes your company unique is your people. Their innovation, creativity, and enthusiasm can't be copied. And, if that uniqueness is directed to creating processes, products, and services that are better than your competitors, you have an unbeatable advantage.

In Leveraging People and Profit the authors introduce a new term, altrupreneur. Altrupreneur is defined as one who conducts the affairs of an enterprise with conspicuous regard for the welfare of others. The altrupeneur is not one who acts only for the welfare of others, but one who acts with awareness of others' welfare as one of his or her top priorities.

The authors go on to outline a leadership model which includes the following.

1. The very essence of leadership is you have to have a vision. It's got to be a vision you articulate clearly and forcefully on every occasion. You cannot blow an uncertain trumpet. 2. Employees want and expect leaders to set direction and determine the business focus. Leaders are relying more on the power of influence than of command and control. 3. To be credible as a leader, you must first clarify your own values, translate them into a set of guiding principles, a credo, that you can communicate to the people you hope to lead. These overaching values help employees make decisions consistent with the aspirations of the company. 4. A leader must earn the trust of those he/she expects to lead. 5. Establish a mutual service compact which helps people understand where they fit in the value chain, aligns recognition programs to reward organizational successes, establishes training and personal development programs to reinforce continuous improvement, develops a communicaiton plan to ensure every employee understands values and vision and allocates resources to support improvment initiatives.

When an organization is energized by a vision that draws out the best efforts of all stakeholders in a positive and mutually beneficial context, there is virtually no limit to what is possible. Human creativity is not maximized until it is challenged by the impossible.

If you are interested in a healthy life you must have this book. There is so much valuable information in it. I have tried many of the recommendations and they have all been helpful. My husband always asks, do we have plenty of clay on hand? He knows when some health issues arise we can go to this book for help. When people come to our home and see the clay jar on the counter they ask, what's that for and I tell them all the things you can do with it they look at me like I'm crazy. I just smile and show them the book, they are amazed. Hope this helps.

After having major surgery (colorectal), I had 20 bowel movements a day - it was horrible. I have a tendency toward colitis anyway. Well, I read about the clay and thought why not give it a try. My stools bulked up and I now only have from 3-5 bowel movements which are so much bigger, better, and less painful - in fact they are not painful at all. The clay and the directions that Perry A gave in her book has been a God send to me.

After reading this book, I applied Perry's directions to get rid of eczema that I've had for a year. The eczema was all over my hands, my arms, my upper chest and neck. I have been taking clay baths twice a week, I have been drinking one tablespoon of the dry clay mixed in a glass of water 3 times a day, and I also hydrated the clay to put on my eczema areas to draw out the impurities. 3 weeks later, it's almost completely gone!! This is the only thing that has really worked for me. I've tried all kinds of things, body cleanses, supplements, diet. I truly believe in it.

That statement may have you thinking it's an overstatement. NOT AT ALL!
I'm completely serious when I tell you that I was simply stunned reading
this book. Therapeutic, high grade Calcium Bentonite Clay is an incredible substance. One I have taken since November of 2006 and it has had a powerful and positive effect on my health. I originally started using it for external stuff, a facial mask, a bug bite and minor stuff like that. I kept hearing so much about this clay (and by the way if you have acid reflux issues--nothing and I mean NOTHING takes care of heartburn faster than clay and no toxic side effects!! In fact it's only going to do you tremendous good) so I got the book to learn more about it. I read this book cover to cover in a couple of hours and was so excited about the possibilities of this substance. I started taking it immediately and drink about 6 to 8 oz. a day now. I will never be without it. Even if you don't want to take it internally, but you'd be crazy not to after reading this book (that is also a reference book as well) you will want to have this clay in your medicine cabinet and first aide kits. One of the most truly stunning things I read in the book was that clay can help you survive poisoning of many types. After Chernobyl happened in Russia and so many were exposed to radiation poisoning they gave the children candy bars with Calcium Bentonite Clay to help them eliminate the radiation from their bodies. I just know that since I've been taking I have had no heart burn, no respiratory issues, my body chemistry has changed so much that I no longer need to wear deodorant...the list goes on but it's too long and personal. Get this book, then get the clay and start taking it and watch and love the effects of gently and continuously detoxing your body. You sometimes wonder if you can believe all that is claimed about the book, well I've been taking it for 8 months and continue to realize the benefits of detoxing a layer at a time, and I noticed results within taking it within the first 2 weeks. I would never consider being without it. I travel with it, I keep some at my office and at home and some in my purse. I would be willing to bet in an ever increasingly toxic world, you will too. This is a natural, non-toxic and
beneficial way to defend your health!!!
I have purchased many copies of the book so I could give it to friends and family. I've given it to my dog that has digestive issues and it's safe and beneficial for children too. I strongly suggest you get this book. Everyone should have this information.

This is a great book. The characters are colorful and quirky and hilarious. I love the fact that the heroine is a little girl. This book is not only for the young but also the young at heart.

Marietta and the Creeping Nasties is an amazing tale of mystery, fantasy, and magic! The heroine, Marietta, is an earthgirl who arrives in the fantasyland called, Incunabula, to save the land from the Creeping Nasties. There she encounters good and evil. She is a strong, vivacious teen protagonist, who you can't help but love. Along her journey she is faced with a variety of obstacles, but succeeds beyond her wildest dreams. She acquires good friends and realizes that her strength is within.
As a third grade teacher, I read this book to my students. Each day, it was hard to stop reading it. My kids would yell, "No, Miss Keenan, don't stop!" There are so many suspenseful turns in the plot and it keeps you on your toes. I've been teaching for ten years and have read countless books. I can honestly say that this is the best book for young people that I've read. It even surpasses the Harry Potter series. I especially enjoyed the fact that the hero is a female. However, boys and girls alike will be swept away with this magical tale. I wholeheartedly recommend it to any person, young or old.

Marietta and the Creeping Nasties is intended as a book for children, however, it is also a wonderful book for adults! The well-flowing and easy-reading text mixes fantasy with a great sense of humor. I highly recommend it for both YOU and your children. Well worth it!

Great book, although the original ISBN had the book four times a large and four times as thick. Outstanding product though! Great seller, very quick to respond.

This is an invaluable book and is truly a must-have for any Civil War researcher. This is a 2003 re-printing by Barns & Noble Publishing Inc. of the 1983 Arno Press Inc. and Crown Publishers Inc printing. Unlike other versions it has the plates numbered in Arabic and not Roman Numerals which is much easier to search.

If you can find one BUY IT!!! NOW!!!

This is THE indespensible source for Civil War maps. It has hundreds of them, from both sides, good, bad, and sometimes appalling inaccurate, produced by the men who actually fought there. You get to see what the generals saw, and sometimes its pretty appalling. Take McClellan's first map of the Penninsula for example, or Bragg's map of Chickamauga. On the other hand, you get Jed Hotchkiss's masterpieces from the Shenandoah Valley and some of the great maps produced on the Union side. One thing you notice is that, except for Hotchkiss, the Union had a pretty clear superiority as far as topography was concerned. Aside form the obvious uses for the historian, the maps are often extremely beautiful and artistic, unlike modern maps. There are a few minor problems. The first is that it is out of print and fairly hard to find, and pretty expensive if you do manage to find it (I paid $60 for a copy that was a little banged up). The second is that some of the maps are blurred and/or hard to read, and often run right through the seam of the book. I have also had problems with pages falling out completely. Anyway, if the high cost and sheer massiveness of this thing doesn't dismay you, and if you find a copy, buy and enjoy this masterpiece for a long time.

Wow! What a compilation of maps, drawings, photographs, and other useful Civil War information. This volume is large, both physically and figuratively. The maps showing battle positions are second to none, drawn up in the 1890s. No modern GPS or computer enhanced map can claim to have anything on these beautiful maps. Any Civil War scholar or buff will appreciate the detail and the comprehensiveness of the maps selected for inclusion. It even has maps of the 1863 Sioux Uprising in Minnesota. There are battles only but the most knowledgeable Civil War authority has even heard of. This is a must for any serious Civil War student. But as mentioned, it is quite large and will likely not fit in most basic bookshelves.
