Perry Books

I wonder why hollywood didn't adopt this book as part of their film adaptation? This book is certainly a "must-read" for AVP fans.

This was my first book in the series. The book had a good plot, setting, pace, and interesting main and supporting characters.

OMG! Aliens vs. Predator: Prey is amazing! It is the best in the series, and possibly the best Alien/Predator/AvP book ever!

The story was epic. The characters were great. It was a fantastically fun and absorbing read.

I first picked this book up when I was in 8th grade, the summer before the AvP movie disaster. The cover art compelled me, it was so cool! I read it and did not stop. I started on the bus to school and finished it that night at around 11:30. It was EPIC! I really felt for the characters, escpecially Noguchi, Scott, and the predator. I loved it so much I went out and bought the rest of the series, some aliens books, and a predator novel. I even got AvP2: Gold on PC (Great FPS game, play it)!

Hunter's Planet was good, but not as much. War book was iffy; I didn't know if it was the third book or second. I bought it thinking it was the second, cuz thats how they were listed in the backs of them (you know, where they show other novels in the series?) but took place between the other two, I guess.

This book got me so excited for the movie, which was a total suck-fest and ripped off this book so much. This should've been the move!

This is a great book. I read it 6 years ago and still remember it as being the best introduction between the three species. Such a small book (er, well, I've been reading Peter F. Hamilton in the past few years) but action packed (cinematic scenes), introduced an alien culture, a plausible link between alien and predator species, and in the tradition of the Aliens movie series, a kickass heroine. This is a great book and if you're a fan of the series of books and movies centered around the two species, then go no further than this book for the best action packed introduction to the two species and an awesome heroine in between.

Before the AvP movie, there was the Alien/Predator crossover found in comics by Dark Horse and then brought to paperback form by Steve Perry. All the books in this series takes place in the future while humans are settling on new planets. Here we have Machiko Noguchi conducting her business on a hot wasteland world for the Coporation. Predators, the species called yuatja, have begun seeding the planet with alien eggs so they may perform a Hunt. The Hunt is a right of passage for young yuatja to join the warrior caste. Sure enough, the humans on the planet are caught in the middle when the facehuggers begin using their "cattle" beasts as hosts. During the Hunt, and older predator/yuatja is injured, found, and brought back to the settlement. This sets up the alliance formed by Broken Tusk (the predator) and Noguchi.

This book is the beginning of a fun series. We get to see into the predators' background and society in a way that doesn't make them look evil and nasty like the movies. They are honor-bound but still a warrior based society. We are further satitsfied by being able to learn various words of the yuatja language without going all Klingon-geekfest on it (no offense meant to those Trek fans out there reading this). It's a well done book and a great adventure that goes deeper than the comics. You can also pick up traces of the story that influenced the writing for the movie AvP set in modern day. Noguchi and Lex (from the movie) are very similar characters in these circumstances. Well done and the other books are just as enjoyable.

A 1000 recipes for comfort food, maybe not from your mother, but from someone else's.
Just good cooking, straightforward, cooking that you can do at home.

Give this cookbook to all your friends, even the ones addicted to complicated cooking full of exotic ingredients.

This book is GREAT!!! It has a ton to mouth-watering recepies and is really worth the money.

I have really enjoyed this cookbook. I'm finding that it's a great source for good, basic recipes for all of my favorite traditional dishes. I also like the variations I've discovered on some old favorites -- the Baked Acorn Squash, for example, which uses orange juice to create a delicious sauce.

I really like this cookbook. Some parts seem very retro and homey, others quite current. A few of the recipes seem so simple you'll wonder why they're in a book, but they're helpful anyway, and sometimes become a springboard to lily-gilding (my weakness). I've only had a problem with one recipe, the bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin (the instructions call for way too much time in the oven). I have also had to spice things up a bit for our tastes, but I think families with small children or picky eaters will be happy with the level of seasoning. This book has become my go-to for weeknight recipes especially because they're reliable and mostly utilize pantry items.

Wonderful cookbook! I read the reviews and just had to go out and buy it for myself! I've been looking for a cookbook with EVERY classic American comfort food recipe, and this is it! It has everything from Appetizers (Spinach-Artichoke Dip and Deviled Eggs) to Breakfast (Biscuits and Gravy; French Toast and Oatmeal), Main Dishes (Chicken Parmesan, Turkey Tetrazzini, Crown Roast) to Sides (Green Bean Casserole from scratch!) and luscious Desserts (Apple Turnovers, Chocolate Cream Pie and Lindy's Original New York Cheesecake!). If you love to cook and want to get back to the good old days of comfort food, this book is a must buy!

This is one of the best books I have read regarding seeking employment. The research areas are great even though they are dated (3 years old) but technology waits for no one! It does go over some areas that are offten lacking in other books.

The only exception is that I would also recommend "The Job Search Solution" (ISBN-13: 978-0814473320) to compliment this book. In "Job Search Solutions" it has the added benefit of using scripts to get in for an interview - which is the whole point in reading these books.

With the these two books - each commplimenting each other - would be a dynamite package!

If I were to buy only one book on job hunting, it would be Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters by Jay Conrad Levinson and David Perry. The book gave me specific action items and HOW TO do them. After reading the book, I put away all thoughts of using outsiders to write or rewrite my resume and cover letters. I loved the unconventional methods and real world examples - they are the kind of food for thought that actually get your creative juices flowing. I look forward to waking up every day to use these ideas - job hunting is a job; this book added joy to the journey.

Many books are point of view out on how to land a "dream" job, this one is the benchmark. This has real information on the inside track. In fact the book is based on recruiter's know-how.
There are a lot of books that promise many things, this book delivers. Tips and tricks ... there is no slight of hand, the book is full of information that will get job hunters noticed and employers to take notice.
The information is strait forward concise with examples, it's an easy read and a real eye opener. This book should be handed out to all graduating classes along with their diploma...

Very thorough, touches every aspect of the job hunt. Not sure how much of the tips are really "guerrilla marketing" though. It's very up to date and the author understands the importance of the online world very well which is great. My big complaint is that it's very U.S.-centric, many of these tactics would be damaging instead of useful in other parts of the world.

I found this book extremely useful. It gave me great ideas for networking and provided some excellent examples of how to think outside the box in regard to getting your name and resume to the top of the list. I would highly recommend it.

A series that absolutely HAS to be completed! One of the best fantasy reads ever--but not for children.

After the crazy carnage of the first book, the only hope for the forces of good is the superpowered Celtic earth warrior, the Morigu. Will even he be enough? Probably not, given how this is going.

It's been 20 years since I received this book to read. After two years of painful searching (longing really), I was able to purchase it. This is simply some of the best writting I have ever read. It holds its own with the best. For eighteen years I have faithfully read this book a least once (sometimes more) each year. It just never gets tired. It's the only book that I've read that I can now open ANY page and get totally taken up in the story. Even knowing what is going to happen doesn't deter the authors crisp, detailed, gut wrenching writting style, and raw emotions this book will pull out of you. I thank my friend Steve for allowing me to read the book for the first time so long ago. This is a MUST read for any fantasy fan.

I own both books. I hope for a third(and a fourth..?) This series presents a level of realism to an unreal universe. The characters, factions, events, and even the magic are presented in such a fashion that the story has a level of believability that is lacking in most titles of the genre. Without going into specifics, the characters and story undergo a large amount of change and development for such a short read. This is even more astounding considering the multitude of major players in the storyline. All in all, wonderful books. Just wish there were more (Hint, hint Mr. Perry)

I love this book, along with the sequel Morigu: The Dead. This was some fast paced, large scale fantasy. But be warned, the series was never completed. From what I have been able to gather, Mr. Perry's publisher dropped him after the second book, and he has found work in Hollywood. Given the length of time now, I seriously doubt he will finish the series even if he was willing. It is a shame, since those who have read these books love them.

If you could somehow harness the powers of pure awesomeness (even more rare than dark matter) and contain it in the form a book, this would be the end result...

Proudly display it on your coffee table, or wear it around your neck; just spread the word of PBF!!! Either way, it is by far one of the best Graphic Novels you will have ever owned.

I'd read a lot of these comics on The Perry Bible Fellowship website, but my goodness, it is just so good having them all printed in a lush, glossy-paged book. Truly, the sick humor comes to life in a way that the internet simply could not dream of. Buy this book. Seriously. You won't be sorry.

I absolutely love the Perry Bible Fellowship. Hysterical from comic number one to whatever the end is. My only issue is with the incredibly small amount of new material there is in it. Honestly, 98% of the comics that are in this book are accessible for free on the website. The only ones that are new are a couple "deleted comics" and some "alternate endings" to some comics. The book is in an attractive hard cover with a red ribbon book mark, and is wonderful as a random pick-up or bathroom reading book. I had it on my bookshelf and on two separate occasions I had people who have never heard of PBF thumbing through. They thought it was hysterical. So do I, and so will you.

Not for everyone, these comics are equal parts demented and hilarious (and maybe sometimes just stupid--but in a funny way). Clever, but not in a pretentious, look-how-clever-I-am way. Really, if you want to see if this is your thing just check out the website. If you like it and want it in book form so you can show it off to your friends or just support the creator, I'd definitely recommend it. It's good quality and well put together with just a few extras that you don't get on the website.

I'm so glad that I bought this - somehow the comics are even better when printed. It's one of those books you can leave on your coffee table (not while kids are around, though) to make your friends scratch their heads and laugh. The author definitely has a cracked sense of humor, but with each comic strip being a story within itself I just can't get enough!

In his short excerpt, the author grabbed his readers' attention by introducing two very intriguing characters (Badar & Sarge). Both characters strive to win, one has an individualistic approach and the other one values his team. I can't wait to see which one will make the deadly mistake.

Even a "non-techie" can follow and appreciate Mr. Perry's writing. I will definitely read this.

Enjoyed the read! If you've ever read and enjoyed the works of Tom Clancy or Michael Crichton, this author (in my mind) will certainly entertain you. The writing is very descriptive, without falling into the trap of being so overly descriptive and full of figurative language that lulls you to sleep, or causes you to lose track of what is happening.

I look forward to reading the complete story sometime soon.

Hey that was a great short script of "Deadly Mistake". Excellent writting, clever characters, thrilling and action packed. So where can I get the rest? What happened at the end of the fight? See...you left me hanging...doh!

This excerpt is written so well that it suspends time and took me at the place and time. I like how the author described the actions and I was curious to find out how Sarge was going to cope with the lost of a couple of his team. The writing of this excerpt is excellent, the premise in intriguing that I want to keep turning the page. The only disapointment was that it ended so quickly.

Two primary protagonists introduced in two entirely different ways, both fabulously executed and both guaranteed to have the readers drooling for more! What a great start!

In a textbook example of a "show, don't tell" writing style, Sergeant Curtis Jackson is introduced as the leader of an elite hand-picked special forces style military unit in the middle of an undercover insertion in war torn Beirut, Lebanon. High speed action and thrills ensue as SNAFUs of a magnitude that could only be achieved by the juxtaposition of high-tech computerized technology with the military entirely foul up a precisely planned commando style operation. Suffering casualties, the team is forced to retreat and the reader is left hanging high and dry wondering whether a secondary extraction point will prove successful.

Badar Baqai, on the other hand, is introduced in a quiet family setting ... enjoying a breakfast, reading the newspaper and interacting with his son. But what we see in these casual daily events is a ruthless, A-type personality who plays every game to win, someone who does not suffer fools gladly and will tolerate no less than 100% effort in every endeavour. That Badar Baqai will at some point meet Curtis Jackson is never stated. But I'll put $100 on the table now against any odds that says they'll confront one another at some point in the full flowering of this novel.

I'm hooked! Let me have the whole enchilada! Clearly, Douglas Perry can write "quiet", he can write "loud"; he can write "fast", he can write "slow"; he can write "character", he can write "action"! That's a helluva lot to achieve in the space of a 5000 word excerpt to a new novel.

Great introduction, Mr Perry! Count on me to buy the final product when you're published.

I bought a copy of this book at a performance of The Phantom Of The Opera in 2000 and really love it. I tried to purchase a copy for a friend at the most recent performance we went to but it is no longer available and feel very lucky to have been able to find it here at Amazon. It tells of the Paris Opera House, Gaston Leroux, the original story and the movies. The reason I bought it is the last 100+ pages cover the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical and includes some incredible photographs. I was delighted when I got home and found it also includes the Libretto! I would encourage any fan of the musical to purchase a copy.

Loads of beautiful photos and lots of info. I love it. We do need and expanded edition to cover the movie. This is for Phantom Fans.

This book... I have no words on how amazing it is.

When I rekindled my love for musicals, and of course, Phantom of the Opera made that happened... I had to get everything and learn everything about Phantom. So I found this book at the library and I went insane over it.

Firstly, it gives a clear background history on Gaston Leroux--the writer and the creator of Phantom of the Opera. Then, it goes into another section when talking about the films it inspired. You'll be surprised and amazed when you see it and read about it. Not only that, it tells you some small tidbit facts on the actors and actresses of these movies.

And then, my favorite part, it goes into the Lloyd Webber musical. And when I say "goes into" I mean it!! There are so many pictures of the Original London Cast it's phenominal! There ares ome behind the scenes pictures as well. I never seen so many pictures about Phantom sure in a book, ever.

And when you think that's enough, there is a libretto of the stage production--including scrafito'ed pictures of the OLC copied in there as it was when the CD/Cassette first made it's debut.

All in all, it's not clearly updated as it is now, there is mention of the movie and who they want in it. But otherwise, if you are a London Cast or simply a Phantom obsessionist, you MUST have this book. If you find it at a house sale, a junk pile, book sale... whatever... BUY IT. You will not be dissapointed!!

I recently purchased both 'The Complete Phantom of the Opera'and the novel, and I am soo impressed! After I saw the movie and bought the soundtrack, I knew that I had to have these books. My interst in the Phantom of the Opera was first sparked when I saw the silent version with Lon Cheney. Then I heard about the movie coming out, so I saw it and I was more than impressed. I still have yet to see the Broadway version however. So, I highly recommend the movie, the soundtrack and the books. In my opinion each is well worth the cost!!

Saw myself in the first two to three years after my husband suddenly died. (Ernie's my pooch.) Made me appreciate the pain that divorce causes - grief is grief.

I loved this book! I appreciate the author's witty writing style and explanations. I think every woman could relate to this book whether they are a knitter or not.

I loved this book! I bought it (and a copy for a friend) after coming across her blog one day. I am happily married, enjoy my wine now and then and, like Laurie, am usually wearing black pants covered from the knees down in hair from my mostly-white cats.

I like that this book is not just a rehash of her blog, and I like having all of her knitting "recipes" together in one place.

Laurie's writing can move you to laughter and tears, sometimes in the same sentence. Her words apply no matter what life situation you're dealing with, and her story is an inspiration to anyone who contemplates making a life change or has one thrust on her. Like knitting, if it's not working you can rip it out and do it over and even though it doesn't always turn out as you think it will, it's almost always better than it was! Read this book and give it to friends - it will resonate with all of them!

I recommended the authors knitting blog to a friend of mine. My friend surprised me by buying the book and having it sent to me. It was a great weekend read. I think anyone who's gone thru a breakup can relate to this book and have a great laugh too.

This isn't just an update to the 3.5 rule set of d20/D&D, this is a whole new book! With the addition of like 50 pages, new classes, NPC archtypes, sub-types, equipment, etc... this breaths new life into tired old cities in any campaign. A must for world building and small adventures in or near a city!

Another great Skirmisher resource. I'm really getting to the point that if Skirmisher publishes a d20 book, I'll buy it sight unseen! Another must buy!

As a new DM, I found the material in this book to be invaluable in populating the major city for my PC's to play in. The standard WotC books provide a little too general information on Experts for a novice DM to easily dive in and begin creating a somewhat realistic world. I faced the challenge of filling in those gaps myself, but was lucky enough to come across this book at my local game seller. It is exactly what I needed.

Since I'm far from being a history expert, particularly on the daily lives of folks in medieval times, I found the first chapters describing the various types of experts (in broad categories of craftsmen, entertainers, professionals, scholars, and tradesmen) to be a fascinating read. It fully answered simple but important questions like "What is the difference between an armorer, blacksmith, and weaponmaker?"

The most valuable part of the book is the chapter on new skills. This chapter really gives nitty gritty details that are useful to my campaign. For example, there is a table in the section describing the Craft (Armorsmithing) skill with the self-explanatory title "Armor Creation Requirements, Times, and Costs". One of my PC's was looking for an armorer to craft him a mithral breastplate. I could easily tell him how much it would cost by using the DMG, but figuring out how long it would take, and who (if anybody locally) would have the skill to do it would be a much greater challenge. With the above table in hand and using the sample Expert provided in a later chapter as a template, getting this together was no sweat!

The only thing I'm unhappy with is the font that is used for many of the headings. It is very difficult for these old eyes to read. A minor quibble, but it is frustrating nonetheless.

I can't judge how valuable this book is for experienced DM's, but for an inexperienced DM that is building a world or extending an off the shelf product this is a must have!

This book is by far one of the best OGL/d20 books for DMs on the market. Finally the most forgotten NPC class gets the respect it deserves. With so many OGL/d20 books coming out that lack usable content, this book is a welcome addition to my considerable library. The expanded class descriptions, with its customizability is phenomenal. And some of the new feats, well, my players are now begging for permission to use this book. Keep it coming!

I found the experts book to be incredible. It expanded the breif and uninformative experts described in the DM handbook very well. A must-buy for all DMs.

I remember reading this entire series back in the day. Although some were not as good as others, they were still very much enjoyable.

Now I'm excitied to read the all-new novel in this series - The Musashi Flex!

Good stuff this.

A good one man against the galaxy book, but it never becomes unbelievable unlike a lot of other in the genre. If anything it gets more believable as it goes. It's partly Frank Russell's Wasp where one man can create a larger effect than you might think and part John Brunner's Shockwave Rider where a man is searching for a fulcrum on which to move the world. Both parts are told in separate threads and meet up nicely at the end.

The Man Who Never Missed is the first novel written in the Matador series. However, it is the second novel in the series by internal chronological sequence, following The 97th Step.

In this novel, Emile Antoon Khadaji is an former Confed veteran with six years combat experience when he finds himself in a bloodbath on Maro, where three-quarters of a million religious fanatic ran, walked and crept into the Confed fire zones and died. This traumatic event breaks his social conditioning and gives him an epiphany about violence. He runs into the oncoming mob, discarding his equipment as he goes, and later finds himself in a nearby town, where he meets Pen (see The 97th Step).

He realizes that the amount of violence used by the Confed is wrong and looks for a way to eliminate the strong-arm tactics. Pen teaches him how to control himself and Juete teaches him to see others as they are. On Bocca, he learns the nature of politics and military force as well as many other subjects. He wallows in learning for a while, but then moves on to gaining money as a power base.

On Greaves, he buys a bar and specializes in providing a good time to the troops. At night and in his spare time, he shoots select troopers with darts carrying Spasm, a convulsant that leaves the victims totally incapable of speech and movement for six months, but leaves the mind clear and undamaged. During these six months, he shoots 2388 of the 10,000 Confed troops, including the commanding officer.

When the Confed finally catches up to him, he is on record as being the one and only member of the Shamba Freedom Forces. This spooks the System Marshall and every single trooper that learns the tale. His fame and example spreads throughout the Confed.

This novel is a SF psyops story, focusing on the use of minimum force to achieve political objectives. Underlying this is a martial arts philosophy which teaches much the same lesson. When a political system degenerates into a self-perpetuating organization that preys on its own citizens, it only takes a small event to crystallize opposition to its existence. Witness the fall of the Soviet Union from the inside.

This story is much like Eric Frank Russell's Wasp, but with a more military approach and a different objective. In Wasp, the goal was to reduce the will to resist of the planetary population, but in this novel, the goal is to increase the will to resist of the planetary populations by breaking the reputation of Confed forces.

Recommended for all Perry fans and anyone who enjoys psyops stories in a SF setting.

The Man Who Never Missed is, hands down, one of the finest,entertaining and most original Science Fiction novels to come out of the Eighties. The plot is both action, military and spiritual all in one as the unique journey of the Hero unfolds and we bear witness to his growth and development from a shattered, spiritualy stricken soldier to a freedom fighter capable of challenging an empire. This story remains a benchmark for all military or martial fiction in the Science fiction genre. This is the first of 3 novels in the Matador Trilogy, The Man Who Never Missed is followed by Matadora and The Machiavelli Interface. Collect them. Read them. Enjoy them and may the Spirit of Adventure never leave you.

The Man Who Never Missed is an exciting and engrossing space adventure about a soldier who has an epiphany one day during battle, and as a result decides to take on an empire. He encounters various characters along the way who teach him valuable lessons, both physical and spiritual, preparing him for the day when he will take his fight to the forces of tyranny in the known galaxy.

This is a great novel for what it is - a mythic tale of a hero, how he was formed, and the beginnings of his battle against an unassailable (and of course evil) foe. If you're looking for characters who are "ordinary mortals" or for some philosophy deeper than "good must triumph over evil", you won't find it here. But the thoroughly enjoyable tale that Perry weaves made me look past these points.

Sure, TMWNM isn't a great piece of literature, but it's a helluva fun story. And in the end, don't you want to be entertained as much as enlightened?
