I bought this book since 1st edition more than 10 years ago for collection.
But for the 2nd edition I bought 7 years ago, I use it as a reference for basic understanding. This is a very detailed textbook about MOSFET. But I still don't know how much different between small-signal model and large-signal model as a lumped circuit elements. Please gives an example of measurement value for recent development of small and large signal model lumped element of MOSFET so that I can design something realistic without HSPICE or SmartSPICE.Some reviewer from NEWCAS-TAISA2008 told me that basic noise model is useless. Does anyone beleive it true or false? So, I will wait for the 3rd edition of this book.

Just reading the Preface to this book, I fell in love with the author. I completely agree that sometimes the most rigorous and careful treatment of a subject actually makes it possible to study the material faster!! What always frustrated me and slowed me down in reading other books was the sloppiness and hand waving. It's amazing that many Ph.Ds and even authors of famous books like Uyemura's "Fundamentals of MOS ICs" don't understand the simple body effect, and talk about complete nonsense showing a 2 terminal capacitor with Vb applied to the bulk, and saying that the Vt will now change by the sqrt(Vb) body effect. They don't understand that the body effect is a 3 terminal effect and in 2 terminals if you apply Vb to bulk then your Vt will have to increase by Vb--NOT sqrt(Vb)!!! This book is a delight. Just the material on contact potentials was worth the money.

This is a repeat of a review I did previously.

I am a graduate student with main area of interest in Mixed mode design, testing and device modelling. This book was suggested to me by my proffessor. It is the book for MOSFET.I have read many books on this topic like Tyagi,Foty, massobrio etc but this books stands apart. It is a very well written book. Its progress is very logical going from two terminal device to four terminal device with very good explanation of the physics.More importantly the emphasis on the approximations made makes things clearer.....

For a person working with Mosfets it is a must......

I don't usually write reviews unless the book is either very poor or very good. This is one of the best books on my shelf. If you want to know the MOS transistor this is the book. Well researched, excellent explanations, excellent appendices. Other authors of technical books should use this as an example of how to write a good technical book.

After reading this book I threw away my Colgate toothpaste and Listerine mouthwash, replacing them both with the Closys brand from Wallgreens. And the sores in my mouth disappeared! The book doesn't mention any of these brands specifically, but it tells you how to read the labels to select products that won't harm you. The book is a short, easy read that lets you know more than most dentists seem to know about how to keep your mouth in perfect condition.

I thought this book was the best ever explanation about why gum care and oral hygeine in general is so important to overall health. Dr. Bonner uses easy understood language that an non-medical person can feel comfortable reading it. I now recommend this book to all my clients and friends as a "must read"!

The connection between dental health and several infectious diseases, plus heart attacks and strokes, is still not commonly known. Dr. Bonner's book clearly and accurately makes the case, as well as providing the remedies for those and various dental conditions. Dr. Bonner doesn't hesitate to list products and techniques he and others have found through years of dental practice to be safe and effective, and many that are neither. It's good seeing so much vital information packed into a compact, easily understood book.

This book takes center stage in our reception and treatment rooms! Instrumental in my clinical practice as a dental hygienist are the very points made in this ground breaking and prevention oriented guide to oral health. No more will I struggle to explain the connection of the health of the mouth to total body health. My treatment and home oral health recommendations have been aligned with those in this book for over 15 years. And I have witnessed the positive difference with my patients especially when the top 10 nutritionals for oral health are taken and irrigation with the Oxycare 3000 becomes a daily routine. Read it - Study it - and most importantly - Do it! Thank you Drs. Bonner and Mindell for helping us learn how we can improve oral health, practitioners and people alike!

Dr. Michael Bonner is the only medical author I know of who emphasizes the seriousness of dental and gum disease, and its impact on cardiac health. Though others have written about the topic, Dr. Bonner sounds the alarm, and gives the reader a protocol which can reverse oral disease, and promote a return to vital health.
What I learned about the impact of C-reactive protein (Crp),
and the tests he tells you to take to identify it, and the steps you need to take (how to keep your gums and mouth healthy)to lower it have been potentially life-saving for me. Clearly written and well organized, I rate it 5 stars.

"The Gift", along with "Act of Faith" and "Transformation of the Species", offers the path home. P'taah shares the tapping into a state of beingness through the knowing of our hearts, one in which we harmonize with who we are and a return to the truth of who we are;love. P'taah returns us to ourselves; empowered, wondrously creative and separate from no one and no thing. "It is truly to know that you are not separate, that you are truly loved, and there is the support of the whole universe for you, if you will allow it."

This has got to be the best publication on P-47 air to ground work. The author details information such that you feel that you are right in the middle of the action. A very well put together piece of work. well worth the expense of purchasing and reading, for those interested in this type of action and history of the WW II Air War. I did.

Tom's book is less than 160 pages long, but in those few pages he has told one hell of a story. He has gotten down to the real nitty-gritty of what it was like to be a fighter-bomber pilot over Europe in WW2. The air war has always been portrayed as impersonal and clean. The job of Tom and his fellow 9th AF P-47 pilots was to support the ground troops. Their living conditions were similar to those of the ground troops, and they even fought much the same way - shooting it out nose to nose with the enemy troops and guns. It could get VERY personal and VERY dirty on occasion. I refer in particular to the chapters "The General's Decision" and "Retribution". In "Come Fly With Me" Tom takes the reader along for the ride and shares the highs and lows of a typical mission from start to finish. The "fighter-bomber boys" never got the press that their air-to-air counterparts did - no "glamour" in their type of fighting. Their contribution to the victory in Europe was vital, and I thank Tom very much for telling their story.

We owe Mr. Glenn a double debt of gratitude. He put his life on the line as a P-47 pilot in WWII and now he has put his experience in writing which has to be a courageous act in itself. I have read many accounts of aerial warfare. Mr. Glenn's Fighter Bomber Boys is by far the most exciting and captivating. This book is destined to become a military history classic. Finally a book to fill in a critical missing gap in the history of airwar, that of the P-47 pilot's down and dirty and tragic story of the strafing and bombing of the enemy. Mr. Glenn has a thoroughly unpretentious and enjoyable style of prose. His chapters are short, to the point, and graphic. You simultaneously feel that you are looking over his shoulder as he progresses through the war and you feel as if you are sitting across from him in his living room as he recounts his experiences. The book is a sheer joy to read. Mr. Glenn pulls no punches. Be prepared for the real nitty-gritty of the fighter pilot's struggle for survival. I am the son of a 9th Air Force P-47 Fighter Bomber pilot. My Dad could only tell me very little before emotionally choking up. Thank you Mr. Glenn for having the courage to put your experience in writing. You have helped me to further understand and appreciate my father.

Ihave the good fortune to know someone who flew with Mr. Glen, who wrote this book. I have read the book over and over. It makes you feel as though you are right there in the cockpit with them, which is something I have dreamed about doing since I was a child. These men truly were a breed apart. This book is time well invested for the Thunderbolt enthusiast.

Tom Glenn tells an exceptional story exceptionally well. Glenn brings you into his cockpit and his muddy tent. There you can inhale the horrifying, glorifying experiences of these air warriors. In their Thunderbolts, the fighter bomber pilots soar beyond incredible and dive to the brink of impossible. The book is insightful, riveting and an eye-opener. If you only have room for one book in your current time/money budget--pick this one. Sadly, the missions, the contributions, the victories (& the staggering casualty rate) of the fighter bomber pilot is barely mentioned or omitted entirely from most WWII chronicles. My thanks to Tom Glenn for not letting this bit of history disappear and to he and his fellow pilots who risked all for us.

I thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted book, that takes us back to small-town, northern Canada in the 1960's. Through a series of hilarious letters between Maggie and her eccentric Grandmother, we hear about the adventures of some of the town's oddest characters and are reminded that the simple things in life are often the most memorable. Reminds us to laugh at ourselves a bit more often!

The Panther And The Windigo by Lowell P. Thomas is a highly recommended young adult novel about four children on the edge of the Everglades forest. They learn of a horrible force called the Windigo, which threatens their lives, yet deep-seated powers within them, and the presence of a mysterious great cat lead to an inevitable showdown. An upbeat, exciting story, The Panther And The Windigo is an ideal addition to school and community libraries fiction shelves for young readers.

I enjoyed this book on several levels.
As an exciting, interesting story, and as an book full of information about the Florida marshes, swamps and history it is just wonderful.
But what I liked best was the way the youngsters faced outside challenges and growing up challenges. They faced their own tasks of learning not to boast, to look to themselves for courage and that more can be accomplished with teamwork.
And while some adults are bad and wrong, most of the grown ups are examples of fairness, wisdom and caring. Most refreshing.
Worthwhile reading for all ages.

I'll admit it: I'm a friend of the author. So when I started to read the Panther and the Windigo, I knew it would be well written, factually accurate and entertaining. But I didn't expect to be swept away into the world of the swamp and the Indians and the nefarious developers with the same intensity that I vaguely remember from my 12-year-old forays into Nancy Drew books and The Hardy Boys mysteries. I really couldn't stop and I wish there were another one right now! Thank you, Lowell.

This book is wonderfully imaginative and is compelling from a child's point of view. I ties mystical traditions and coming of age values together masterfully. I would definitely recommend this for children 7-12. I hope see more beautiful work from Mr.Thomas in the future. This novel really brought back found memories of my childhood in Florida!

Pigs have wings is one of the best books I have read, because it so funny. The way the characters are many times spaced out and the way they act on their stupidity, mostly the way P.G. Wodehouse makes fun of characters. Pigs have wings, is about competition between two pigs for the fattest pig class. They try to steal each other's pig, and the Empress (the name of the hero's pig) has been the winner of this class for two years in a row. All this is tied with some knotted yet silly love relationships. But the way Wodehouse makes fun of it is so funny that you will laugh untill tears start pouring down.

In typical Wodehouse fashion, this is a comical story with many hilarious twists and turns. I found myself laughing aloud in many places. Simply put, if you like Wodehouse and especially the Blandings Castle series, you like this book. It is one of the later "chronicles" of Blandings Castle, but it would be a good read for anyone--even those unfamiliar with Lord Emsworth. This is a great book, and author, for those who enjoy light, comical novels.

Review Date: 2004-11-04
P.G. Wodehouse was the 20th century's answer to William Shakespeare reproduced as musical comedy. In Pigs Have Wings, Mr. Wodehouse produced one of his very best efforts.

As usual, the themes involve a satire of romantic love, miscommunications between the sexes, the vapid interests of the titled class, and the silliness of people in general.

As the book opens, Clarence, ninth Earl of Emsworth finds himself faced with a threat to the supremacy of his pig, Empress of Blandings, in the Fat Pigs class at the Shropshire Agricultural Show. Sir Gregory Parsloe-Parsloe, Bart, of Matchingham Hall, had already hired away Clarence's pig handler, George Cyril Wellbeloved . . . and Clarence is sure that some new skullduggery will soon follow. As the story develops, we find that it's all too true. Soon both pig camps are doing their best to knobble the other man's pig. With everyone else having a bet on the outcome, many other people are soon engaged in trying to sabotage one pig or the other. It's the most pignapping fun caper you can imagine!

In the background, we have all sorts of people who've become engaged to totally unsuitable people on the rebound from slights they feel from the one they really love. P.G. Wodehouse does a yeoman effort of returning all of those twisted loves to the proper party. The plot will keep you constantly chuckling throughout.

There are quite a few books based on the Empress of Blandings. So if you enjoy this one, go on to the others in the series.

A Great Book!

Wodehouse, master of words that he is, shows his wit to be in top form in this wonderfully funny story of Blandings castle. As usual, Lord Emsworth is a bit dazed and obsessing about his pig (now hoping that she'll win first in her division for the third year running at the local agricultural show) and the guests at Blandings are falling hopelessly in love with one another. This is a great book for both those new to Wodehouse and those who have enjoyed his other works. I highly recommend it.

Yes, I know I shouldn't be writing this review yet. But I don't want you to go through another day without reading this book!

This book is taking me forever to read. That's because I keep on reading each chapter 2-3 times before moving on. The effects are not only profound for your prayer life, but for your whole relationship with God. I am finding it transforming.

Here's a tip on using the book: program into your diary to spend some days away with God. Then go find somewhere beautiful and relaxing, and take a bible, a notepad, and Pratt's book. It will be like cool water to your soul.

I have had the privilege of hearing Richard speak on several occasions in Sydney. He is a warm, funny, engaging, out-of-the-box guy. He is also serious about fostering a joyful and totally-transforming relationship with God. Books on prayer abound within Christian circles. Christian bookstores are filled with such books, with many such books acting more like 12 step programs for revitalizing prayer so we can get what we want, than in providing a Biblically based theology and perspective on prayer that can actually anchor our outlook in prayer in the Bible. Pratt predominately succeeds in doing this.

As Pratt indicates at the start, this book does not provide any grand revelations on prayer that haven't been known throughout the history of the church. It's not a magic pill offering magical formulas, and it doesn't resolve every conceivable issue surrounding prayer. But it is still quite thorough in the issues it addresses, and more importantly, its inquisitiveness is substantive and very practical.

A reader who decides to read this book is probably someone who feels that their prayer life is missing something, maybe a lot. Many Christians are in this boat, me included. As a result, I think many readers will be pleasantly surprised by the insights that are offered about our approach to prayer and how both our prayers and the attitudes and expectations behind them are so often out of accord with the prayers recorded in the Bible.

Not surprisingly, the bulk of Pratt's examination on prayer is from an Old Testament perspective, since he's an Old Testament guy. Readers may very well experience something akin to an awakening or a reappreciation for the Psalms after reading this book, I know I did. Pratt is thorough in his examination and tends to do a very good job in backing up his assertions in Scripture. He tends to be very careful in not making grand statements that have no Scriptural support, and this alone is refreshing within the publishing world where prayer is concerned.

I found Pratt's approach to be pretty systematic in logically working from one issue to the next. The review/discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book excellent for small group studies in addition to individual reading and reflection. Pratt does an outstanding job of categorizing the many issues of prayer within three essential aspects of prayer - God, ourselves, and communication. Similar to a wedding, where all that's essential is the bride, groom, and officiant (and maybe a witness or two) while everything else is gravy when you really think about it, a focus on these three essential aspects of prayer helps the discussion greatly and makes all of the chapters relevant within a larger framework of obvious relevancy.

This book will benefit the reader greatly, because he/she will gain a greater understanding of the God they are praying to, in addition to a much more discerning and even critical attitude towards themselves and the motives and expectations they bring to prayer. In addition, the section on the prayerful communication itself may really bring a renewed spark of enthusiasm and vitality to prayer that will replace the mundane and even meaningless monotony so many of us get caught up in when we pray. Highly recommended.

A close, careful, and balanced look [primarily] at Psalms and how they provide a model for a Christian's prayer life. Easy to read while being thoughtful, well organized, balanced, and Bible-based. Conservative Christian viewpoint.

Great for a small group study

Since this is the first book that I've read on the subject of prayer, I don't have much to compare it to. I have heard that the pickings are rather limited. Not true with this book. It is great!

We have used it as the source book in a small group study with wonderful results. The chapters are chocked full of great suggestions, with lots and lots of Scripture references. The study questions are mostly good with maybe a few exceptions.

This book has helped me considerably with my prayer life. I recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their's.

The Best Book on Prayer that i have read

I can't say enough about this book. One of the best books I have ever read on prayer. Richard Pratt looks at the Three elements required for prayer, God, Ourselves, and Communication. The book is broken up into 12-13 chapters so it is great for using for a Sunday School class or for Church Home Group bible study. The fact that each chapter is individual from each other, which helps in that if someone misses a week, they are not "lost". The author looks at praying through our joy, our sorrow, and not just focusing on one aspect of God himself (i.e The Righteous Judge, Merciful Father, The Great Healer) but to focus on all his attributes. I try to read this book once every other year as a refresher. A must buy!!

Wonderful and deep approach to soft condensed matter physics

This textbook's main originality is its unusual mixture of latest experimental facts and observations in soft condensed matter with deep theoretical concepts and tools.
Exactly solved models of statistical physics pervades the text which also contains a good discussion on real-space renormalization methods and field-theoretical approaches to condensed matter problems.
The chapter on topological defects and excitations is particularly welcomed.
May not be particularly suited for self-study as some results are not always carefully derived and the exercises can prove quite hard to solve.
A prior exposure to phase transition phenomena is recommended.

incorrectly labelled a "soft matter" book

This is simply a modern presentation of condensed matter physics, and thus includes some soft matter examples, but it is not in any sense a "soft matter book".

To those still mired in traditional solid state physics, where electronic properties are topics 1 through 987 and understanding how a semiconductor works is still a primary goal, it may appear that this is a strange book. Indeed it is: it is a condensed matter text rather than a solid state text.

Take a look at your Ashcroft and Mermin flyleaf some time---it is over 30 years old. What have you learned since then? What have your students learned? Do they really get turned on by LAPW and FLAPW? Are you sure? This book is a good place to start bringing yourself, and your students, up to date.

Exhaustive treatment of soft matter physics!

Given my training as engineer in undergraduate and as polymer scientist in my MS, I find this book a challenging endevour. It presupposes knowledge of quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics, and is written in a style most beneficial for Physics graduate students. Nonetheless, since every serious student in material science and polymer physics must indeed become comfortable with soft matter physics, this book is a delightful introduction. The book by RAL Jones can provide a quick introduction to phenomenon and principles encountered in the book. But to master the trade, to become comfortable with notation used in papers, to understand the math, to make yourself a soft matter physicist, this book provides matter, paradigm and principles in comprehensive manner.

Specifically book is essential reading for people studying physics of crystals, liquid crystals, amorphous materials, polymers and magnetically ordered systems. It provides detailed introduction to symmetry, phase transitions, field theories, scattering and correlation functions, and generalized elasticity and hydrodynamics. Each chapter and topic can be appreaciated by additional reading from a textbook each in Statistical Mechanics (Pathria), Electrodynamics (Slater and Frank), Quantum Mechanics, liquid crystals (chandrashekar or de gennes, polymers (doi, de gennes) and scattering (neutron-higgins, light-pecora). Like potential readers, I am myself a student, just starting on this daunting but worthwhile study of condensed matter.

It is not only a "soft Condensed Matter" book. This book has every basic (or kinda advanced) ideas of condensed matter physics. And there is almost no prerequisite for this book --- a reader needn't even know any solid state physics before he reads this book. The text is well written and easy to read.
--- These are all the features of a perfect textbook.
