The plight of the people of Libby and the other sites around the country is very sad and you want to hate WR Grace and the previous mine owners and operators. While their reponsibility is not in doubt, the book could have been improved by more information about what exactly they knew and when. I'm sure Grace et al. did not cooperate with the authors, but the extensive litigation should have made some of this information available.

I am in the middle of this book and I find it very compelling. I was interested in customer reviews and when I read the last review on how the story is not yet complete because many of the victims of this scandal do not have health insurance, I felt compelled to write.

Everyone will be making a profit on this story. WB Grace made their money and now the media will make their money. While I agree that the authors have done a wonderful public service uncovering this environmental disaster, I would like to suggest that a substantial amount of the money made on this book (and the perhaps subsequent movie) could be donated to the victims. If not for their illness, there would be no story. I was recently appalled to learn about the monies that were made by media stars on the Watergate scandal while Deep Throat (whoe courage made it all possible) was not doing quite as well. For the media to make money off these stories without providing for the victims is not right either.

I want you to read this book. It is important to you and your family. I consider myself a knowledgeable person and I don't remember this scandal when it came out in 2000-2001. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I live in southern CA, but the problems with asbestos effects all of us in the US. Attic insulation, talc products and even gardening/soil products have asbestos risks that have been used and available for sale up into the 1990's and beyond.

I must have read a review or heard one of the authors in an interview...but somehow this book made it onto my "Must Read" list. When I received the book, I questioned why I had gotten it, having forgotten what motivated my interest in the first place. But I started reading and have found this book to be a treasure.

The story is one of deception, corruption and greed on the part of Big Business, in this case the mining business. The owners and executives misled their workers, investors and the government agencies that regulated them into turning a blind eye to the dangers of asbestos in their products.

While the deception of the miners in Libby was unconscionable, the book goes on to document the Bush White House withholding information that the air in and around the World Trade Center was not healthy! Can you imagine, after a tragedy like the WTC disaster, that your own government, that you rallied round to give support, would turn on you and withhold information that the air that you breathe is full of cancer causing dust? Which tragedy is worse?

The book is truly a must-read.

Lastly, I want to point out the courage of the reporters, editors, doctors and the outstanding EPA field workers that fought to get this story out. Whistle-blowers, whose main motivation is to right a wrong, are oftentimes rewarded by getting fired and branded as outcasts. This book is ultimately a story of courage and perserverance of those determined to overcome the obstacles of standing out and doing what's right.

The author Andrew Schneider tells the story of uncovering a scandal of major proportions. It is a frightening, chilling story of hidden dangers allowed by government officials whose jobs are to keep us safe. It is the story of a mineral still used in our country whose lethal dangers were recorded by Pliny the Elder. Asbestos cannot be safely used in any manner.

This book is a masterpiece of investigative journalism - well written, throughly researched and truly in the interests of the public.

The authors do a superb job of combining all the science and politics with a touching picture of the real Americans who ultimately paid and are paying the price for corporate greed and governmental push-overs.

If you read just one book this year, this should be it!

Being a woman of certain age, I am not into romance novels featuring ingenues anymore. Even with Ms Heyer's books, I prefer the ones featuring "older" women than 18-year-olds.

I read both Lady of Quality and Black Sheep back to back. I must say that I like Black Sheep more. First of all, the contrast of what love means to a 17-year-old and to a 28-year-old is so funny and right on that I could not help but chuckle whenever Fanny (ingenue) declared her undying love for Stacy the cad. The conversations between Abby (Mature Woman) and Miles (Hero) are also full of humor and word play. Their verbal sparring is never tiresome and always witty. Ms Heyer deserved to be compared to Jane Austen.

I've been reading my way through Heyer's works. This and "These Old Shades" are my favorites so far. Some of the most enjoyable books I have read in a few years! Comedies of manners are SO difficult to get right, but she does. The comparison to Jane Austen is spot-on and I would not say that lightly. Very highly recommended. "Cotillion" is very good too. I look forward to reading more of Heyer's books.

What a fabulous book. I grow very tired of reading romance novels where every second sentence is telling of how the hero or heroine's body parts are reacting to each other. This was such a refreshing change. Just pure romance and no lust. I won't go into the plot because others have. I just want to say that the dialogue in the story is fantastic. The characters are entertaining and the story is always fresh. You can't possibly skim one paragraph because you would miss so many charming details. Just don't read this book when you are tired. The language in the book takes a little bit of mental translation.

This is my first novel by Georgette Heyer. I'm so happy that there are so many more to read by her. If you're a fan of Jane Austen you will love Georgette Heyer.

I had read some of Georgette Heyer's books when I was a teen-ager. Somehow I found this book in a bookstore and I bought it right away. One of the reasons I hadn't read Georgette Heyer for a long time is her heroes are always so much older than the heroines, that said I was pleasantly surprised with this book as Abigail is a matured woman and the relationshop between her and the hero is believable and is between equals.I just loved the book and recommend it highly. This book shows how you can write a romance story without the book mentioning even the word 'sex'.

I wish Georgette Heyer had written more books!!!!!!!!!!

There are two bad boys here, both of them Calverleighs, but the younger, Stacey, is really bad. He's a fortune-hunter who is trying to con Fanny, a young heiress, into an elopement. The older, Miles, is Stacey's uncle, lately returned from his banishment to India, twenty years before, for trying to elope with Celia, who later became Fanny's mother!

But Miles had really loved his Celia, unlike Stacey, who doesn't care a bit for Fanny. Then there is Abby, Fanny's aunt, who is only 28 but acting as her guardian. Abby has to try to extricate Fanny from Stacey's lures, but since she is falling under the spell of the extremely funny Miles, it's a difficult task.

This book has some of Heyer's funniest dialog. Although very similar to her last novel, "Lady of Quality" (also a whopping good read), this one stands on its own and is well worth reading. And rereading. And so on. I've read it many times in the past 40 years, and it still makes me laugh. The ending is marvelous, and all the resolutions perfect in their way!

This is an incredible portrayal of of a people who not only refused to sucumb to evil but took a stand against it...and against all odds. The second book in the "Binding of the Blade," series picks the reader up from the ashes of untimely death and betrayal and catapults them into a journey that can only end in disaster...or is there hope? It forces the imagination to new heights while challenging our own society's definition of manhood and womanhood. The lessons implied are for us today. If only our youth were able to grasp the concepts inspired by L.B. Graham.

I enjoyed this sequel to Beyond the Summerland. I think that the idea for a giant who controls the weather is pretty cool.

Although this book opens seventeen years after Beyond the Summerland, the author manages to naturally weave in an outline of the interlude. For seven years Aljeron has led the men of Shalin Bel against the city of Fel Edorath in hopes of bringing Rulalin to justice. But unforeseen events reverse the tables. Malek, about to launch his third and final attack on Kirthanin, offers Rulalin a position in his army. Will Rulalin abandon his beliefs and accept?
Meanwhile, Valzaan rides to Ammon Sul with shocking news. How will Wylla react when she learns her son, like his father, has been appointed a prophet? Can she let him go into the face of danger with no certainty of surviving?
The conclusion follows its predecessor in hitting readers with an unforeseen ending. I was shocked, yet couldn't resist opening the next one. These books have a way of gripping you even as you can't stand some of the plot twists. In a way, that's part of their power.

My family hates when I read a book like this--no meals are made...the clutter builds up--so I did a marathon read of this second book in the series and truly enjoyed the characters and the story. There are strong action sequences plus real depth of character development. This book will appeal to both male and female readers who enjoy fantasy, including those who love Tolkien.

Not all fantasy novels are foul language free. This one is. The love relationships spare us graphic details, too. There is violence (it is about a war, after all) with some details, but not to the point of gratuitous violence.

The best thing is that there is richness, depth, to the story. You not only care about the characters and the outcome of the story, but the book goes deeper than that--to the heart. I can't wait until my next weekend OFF, so that I can read the next book in the series

This novel continues the story began in Beyond the Summerland and takes the threat to Kirthanin to the next level! The ramifications of a certain stunning event at the end of the first book is the driving force behind the lives of the characters some eighteen years in the future. City rises against city in the search for justice, while many others are affected by the long struggle. The truly dangerous enemies use this to their advantage and then a massive threat breaks loose-- causing an even more critical confrontation. The Bringer of Storms and the armies of the enemy arise! This book also ends with a shock and I am sure the ramifications of what happened will be felt throughout book three. This story should flow into the next book without too much of a time gap, as the conflict that was pressing, was not fully resolved.

The only slight mar to the book is the same as I mentioned about the first one, which is that some of the dialogue seems too modern at times. Mom and dad, instead of mother and father, and similar things that just didn't feel "medieval" enough. This is a very minor concern, though, and is very subjective. I am definitely looking forward to book three in this great series! Buy the first two-- you won't be sorry!

I've had this cookbook for about 20 years & its my best used cookbook. I have a couple other chinese cookbooks; but they are overly complicated and just overwhelming with too much information. I orginally got this cookbook for the Fried Pork Dumpling (potstickers) recipe. It is spot-on the best recipe for these kind of dumplings. I usually make up several hundred at a time & they freeze wonderfully!!! Alot of trial & error resulted in the following: Make dumplings (but don't cook). Put on a lightly floured pan. Flash freeze for about an hour. Put 6-8 in a quart canning jar & vacuum seal. When needed, pull out jar from freezer, lightly flour a plate, remove frozen dumplings & set on floured plate (not touching). Put in freezer overnight. Next day, fry up as in directions. They are just as wonderful as the day you made them fresh.

I have used this cook book for years it is the best I have found for good Chinese cooking. Directions easy to follow.

This is a decent, if unspectacular book.

STRENGTHS:
* The authoress covers a fair amount of ground.
* Many of the recipes are very tasty, and well honed.

WEAKNESSES:
* The authoress glosses over many areas that are important for westerners ... such as how to evaluate, buy, season, and care for a high quality wok. The authoress just seems to assume you have one. The authoress also glosses over most of the finer details regarding the essential differences in regional styles of Chinese cooking. Disappointing for a book having a title that implies exhaustive depth that doesn't actually exist within.
* The authoress doesnt always remember to give enough of the aliases for various ingredients, leaving readers to rely upon educated guesses based on photos.
* The recipes and instructions are not always laid out in logical order, nor are they clearly and adequately explained in all cases. Her recipe for classic pork dumplings, for instance, takes a bit of re-reading, and a fair amount of trial and error (and cursing) in order to make the indicated amount of dough appear even remotely adequate for the amount of filling she calls for. This book could have benefitted from some much needed polishing by an independant chef/editor.
* The authors doesn't really give any insight into preferences and background, or her cooking philosophy ... she just plowed ahead and dumps a bunch of recipes into her book. Then again, this book was written some time ago, and cookbook styles have since been chaging and evolving - chefs are now allowed to inject themselves into their books. That wasn't always true.

In any case, the book appears a bit dated by today's standards. There are more exhaustive, more entertaining, better photographed, and better edited books available than this one. It's adequate, and it'll serve it's function if it's your only book on the cuisine, and that's about as much as I can say about it.

This is the best Chinese cookbook I've used. There are lots of delicious and pretty easy recipes. Once you buy a good set of the major ingredients (ginger, hoisin, rice wine, soy sauce) and get a decent wok/any big pan, you can make a lot of delicious meals that are as good as any Chinese restaurant, for very cheap. The Mongolian Beef is really good. It tells you the basics of Chinese cooking, like how to make tofu and how to cook really good white rice. Highly recommended from an amateur cook on a budget like myself who loves flavorful Chinese food.

I bought this book when I was first learning to cook because I love Chinese food and wanted to do my own fried rice. While the other recipes are very good, this is the best fried rice you will ever eat. I no longer eat fried rice in restaurants because it cant match this.

This book was very helpful for my 4000 level Neuro class that I had to take. It took me back to the simple basics that I somehow never had or forgot and built from there, showing how the basic developed into the more complex structures. The simple explainations for different structures also includes functions which I need as a Psyc. major. No coronal views are included, but the other views are very helpful. Grab your colored pencils & have fun!

This is a must for anyone interested in learning about the anatomy of the human brain.

It is also essential for anyone studying physiological and / or biopsychology.

I bought this book to help my bachelor level students learn the parts of the brain. They found it helpful in their learning process to color the parts of the brain. Although, because they are bachelor level students, there were only a few pages that were surface knowledge...lots of detailed pictures that would be more appropriate for doctorate level.

I teach an interdisciplinary course in psychology and neuroscience, and my psych students have found this book helpful for getting up to speed on neuroanatomy. I've also started using some of the pages as overheads during my lectures, since the diagrams are uncluttered and easy to draw on.

I'm writing a review because I thought I should mention that I found this book *much* more useful than its better-known competitor. The other book has more fine-grained anatomical detail, of the sort that would be most useful to someone studying to be a neurosurgeon - but the result is that it's very hard for a casual student to tell what's worth studying or remembering. This book does a much better job of focusing on the important structures, the ones that you're likely to see mentioned in popular science books and articles. The second half (Functional Neuroanatomy, with chapters devoted to the systems subserving different functions) is especially useful.

For anyone interested in self-study, or who just wants a quick reference source for neural structures that they see mentioned in other texts, I'd strongly recommend this book.

If you loved your third grade art class, you'll love this brain coloring book. The truth is we learn by doing, using our hands, applying colors. Many areas of the brain are involved in what we think of as simple learning tasks. Adding manual tasks to learning the complicated anatomy of the brain strengthens the learning process - forces you to linger over the page and get involved in learning the structures.

I feel the text on each facing page is quite useful but could have been a little more detailed on the clinical end. You will come out of the 'coloring book' experience with far greater confidence in your understanding of neuroanatomy than you expected. You may find reading on neuropsychology a good deal easier, now that you have, in effect, overstudied the anatomy and physiiology underlying it.

For those who want to go beyond this text to a really superior text in this subject, I highly recommend Clinical Neuroanatomy by FitzGerald and Fokan-Curran published by W. B. Saunders. It is already marvelously colored and illustrated with much greater detail and clinical information. It is an exceptional medical text (and priced accordingly). The medical illustration, scans, photos and other teaching aids are excellent and profuse. The coloring book is just a sort of 'boot camp' to prepare you for this. I have not seen a better text on neuroanatomy. If you are seriously in need of learning or reviewing your knowledge of this subject, this is the one.

ADDENDA: I have just read Pinel's other excellent work called BIOPSYCHOLOGY. Illustrated by his partner (sic) Maggie - superbly and contributing greatly to the success of the book as a great teaching medium in neuropsychology and neurology. It is a textbook for undergraduates in Psychology and assumes little in previous physiology and anatomy, using extensive explanations of vocabulary and concepts. Frankly, you might as well buy this one instead of the coloring book. It will cost more but you will get a lot more out of it along with the same high quality of illustrations necessary to understand this challenging subject. John Pinel has an engaging writing style, some surprising personal anecdotes, and many case histories. I highly recomment BIOPSYCHOLOGY.

I never know what to expect when I begin a new Dick Francis novel - but I always enjoy the ride. This one is no exception.

This is the first Dick Francis mystery and I like it the second best. I like "Nerve" slightly better, but only slightly. This "Dead Cert" contains several impressive scenes. The most impressive is the climax in which the star horse "Admiral" plays an unexpectedly spectacular role. It is definitely THE MOST SPECTACULAR scene in ALL Francis mysteries. Highly Recommended.

I was amazed to learn after reading this one that it was Dick Francis' first novel. Francis was a very successful jockey--racing for the Queen Mother in the 1950's--and after a career-ending injury, he penned his memoirs. Following that success, he developed and incredibly successful second act as a novelist.

I discovered Francis' work last summer--and I have plans to read everything he's done. In the 3 books I've read, his heroes are all gentleman sleuths--full of character, empathy, and wits. In Dead Cert, the trend continues with Alan York, a young amateur jockey trying to uncover the mystery of why a copper wire was intentionally hung to trip his fellow jockey. York is on his own resolving this caper, having failed to fully convince the police that this was anything more than an accidental death.

The writing is of a high caliber, the characters are wonderfully drawn, and I always learn a thing or two about horses--and England--when I read Dick Francis. There's also something quaint about reading a book set in an age before computers, cell phones, and DNA evidence. Grade: A-

In yet another gripping story of mystery, murder and British steeplechasing, Dick Francis continues his amazing streak of hit novels.

His real appeal is not racing or mystery however, it is his ability to create characters who are admirable, honorable and self-reliant. If you're looking for troubled, self-loathers who "somehow" overcome their weakness and become unwilling and unwitting heroes, don't look here. Francis' heroes revel in their abilities to withstand evil, overcome it, and end up smiling in spite of it all.

Kudos once again for Dick Francis and Dead Cert!

I had to get this for an MBA class I am currently taking. It provides summaries and examples of common business tools in a small package. It's a great reference guide. I didn't do a lot of searching, but for the little searching I did, Amazon had the lowest price.

As a hospitalist, It's frustrating to see patients return to the hospital because they could not afford their medications. This book attacks that problem in a new and exciting way, by empowering patients. Tony Burnham captured the essence of today's corporate employment landscape and put it into a concise and easy to read handbook. I used the book as a guide during the interview process for a new position at my current Fortune 100 company. Needless to say, it worked and I would highly recommend the book to anyone who wants to invest in their own future growth.

I've known the author almost my entire life, and have never met a man with a bigger heart or a bigger set of "ba..lls".. He writes the things that we all think about but never say.. Ed touches on the subjects that rub us the all the wrong way and has the guts to ask why...Reading this hysterical book is like talking to the author in person, no false pretenses here, a real book written for the people by a author who pulls no punches and takes no prisoners...

This books is a great book written by someone that is not afraid to tell it like it is, or give you his opinion on something. Too many people in todays world try to be politically correct, or tell you want you want/need to hear. Ed will tell you the way that it is, without "sugarcoating" it.

Ed takes on many of todays problems of the world, saying how it is. If more people would take the initiative that Ed has, maybe we could change some of the "problems" with America.

Met Ed via my brother and that's how I heard about his book. Because I'm a Social Studies teacher, I figured this would be a "must have" for personal reference. I would categorize this book as a "water cooler ranting" because the questions, concerns, and social mores Ed mentions are exactly what all of us regular folk say at work, home, or in our heads. He's put out a work we can relate to - poor grammar, spelling, and lack of political correctness. Very good that someone is voicing what we're thinking (but too fearful to say).

This is a really great book. I never read a book like it. I think a lot of people think like Ed but would never have enough nerve to put it down on paper. He has no trouble telling it like it is and at the same time it's funny. Can't wait for the next one. Good job Ed.
