I had never seen so many of the versions of the "Gingerbread Boy(Man, Baby, Girl and Cowboy) even at our largest bookstores. I saw them for the first time on-line. The variety on the market was exciting to me, too. From the variety available I chose books that had a different twist but remained within the level of knowledge and understanding for my students. The students talked about the stories with each other! They discussed the appearance of the characters and legitimate reasons for liking one version over another. These children were comparing/contrasting at 5 years of age.
I luv it! THANKS FOR THE VARIETY OF BOOKS AVAILABLE TO INTRODUCE TO MY STUDENTS, CO-WORKERS, PARENTS, GRANDDAUGHTER, FRIENDS.

Owen Glendower, Welsh Hero!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-06-06
This is the story of the larger-than-life hero of the Welsh, Owen Glendower. The story takes place in the late 14th and early 15th centuries. The story is told by several narratives of main characters in the novel such as: Geoffrey Chaucer, Lady Hanmer of Flintshire-later his wife, Griffith Lloyd-Owen's bard among other characters. Owen is the last Welsh Prince of Wales with a personality and physical presence that is striking for a man, from what was considered a wild and subject courntry of England.

He struggles with his desire for peace while at the same time he wages war on England to recognize Wale's independence. A complex, exciting story of a man who would be king of Wales, but really didn't want to.

This is an out-of-print books, however I found a copy easily enough, and is well worth the effort and time to read. Like all of Rofheart's books they are narratives of several characters, some historical, others fictional.

"Once more, O Lord!"

The preface by David Mains from "Chapel of the Air" should serve as a cavaet to the lukewarm believer; "Before you read Glory Filled the Land, it's only fair for someone to post a warning sign: Let the casual reader beware!

This small quotation perfectly sums up this account of the Welsh Revival of 1904-05. Mains is assuming that if you have picked up this book you have done so because of your dissatisfaction with your spiritual life. I know that this is the reason I bought the book.

Writing to the Corinthian Church about Israel, Paul said that "these things were given to us for examples;" this is why Christians should read this book. Because it shows what the Spirit of G-d longs to do in His people.

Through each page I can feel the Holy Spirit searching my hear for all that does not please Him; at times I feel like the moth, which is both attracted to and repelled by the flame. Holiness has this effect on me.

This is a book that has to be experienced to be understood. Mains adjures the reader to "Proceed at your own risk," and rightfully so because how could any spiritually-minded person read what the Lord did during this revival and then go back to the stale walk you had with Him prior to reading this book. I can honestly say that this little book has put me mightily under conviction and, like King David said in the Psalms, "I shall be satisfied when I awake with Thy likeness."

Unsung Heroes

I have always loved the game of baseball. The subtle intricacies, the speed, and the skill of the players. However, my favorite aspect of the sport is its incredible complexity. While the manager is mostly responsible for the strategy in today's game, in the past the catcher was the man in charge. This book covers all the greats, from Bill Dickey to Johnny Bench, with many more in between. They take a look at promising catchers of today like Ivan Rodriguez and Mike Piazza as well. If you have any interest in the backstops of baseball, you will most likely enjoy this book. While catchers don't always get their due, they are an integral part of a successful baseball team, and this book takes a look at the best. The book is well written and concise, but don't let that mislead you. I don't want to imply that the book is childish or "light". Quite the opposite in fact. This book takes a good hard look at what I feel is the most involved position in the great game of baseball. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone.

Father Owen Lee, famous to so many grateful listeners over the decades of Metropolitan Opera broadcasts for his pitch-perfect reflections on opera composers and their works, now does the same for orchestral music. In this handy, invitating volume, complete with illustrative CDs, he offers us a lifetime of rewarding listening. It might well have been titled "An Opera Lover's Guide to Orchestral Music"---Bravissimo!

concise overview of what characterizes a healthy congregation

Tom Owen-Towle outlines twelve characteristics of healthy, vital congregations. Grounded in the image of the "beloved community," these characteristics include mutual care, a commitment to social justice, and the nurturance of generosity. Although aimed at Unitarian Universalist congregations, Owen-Towle's ideas apply to other open and welcoming faith communities as well. I found this book accessible and inspiring.

Very moving book which reminds you why you care

This small book wonderfully illustrates the BIG picture of the UU church. It is well written and enjoyable to read. There are many inspiring quotes throughout. I especially appreciated the ones from Martin Luther King and the one about "Why Organized Religion?" If you are are thinking about getting more involved in a UU church (or any group which you would like to see become more of a beloved community), then read this book.

I am not related to the author - though I admit that after reading this book, I would like to meet him!
