These 16 volumes by John Owen are a must for the thoughtful Christian. Fighting Temptation (6), For whom did Christ Die (10), the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit (2,3) and of course the Excellency of Christ (1) are all dealt with and so much more. Purchase these and study them with care and you will have so much assistance and encouragement in life and hope for the life to come. Owen doesn't so much as touch upon issues but open them up explore and apply them thoroughly and biblically.

This is a great book. It's got some really interesting examples and exercises. The codes are easy to understand and work with. The level of material is not too easy or diffucult. It has served as a nice reference book for my research.

outstanding! but NOT a picture book...

Are you looking for a great book full of glossy pictures of the gorgeous concorde? Wel THIS ISN"T IT! But this book has 300+ pages of dense text on the development of the one and only, plus many images you'd never see anywhere else: one of the full-scale plywood design mock-up, another of the different nose prototypes, etc. etc.. This book is absolutely unique, and includes descriptions of the difficulties of managing a project of "engineering of the future" between 2 countries. If you want to know how they really did design and build this plane, this is a must.

Having met Mrs. Owens, I was suprised that she wrote a book about such dark things, but I enjoyed this book. She really captured the spirit of the people and the situation. Knowing some of the people the characters are based on, I could picture them in that situation. Although it's sad, dealing with the death of two children, it's a great book. I plan to read more of her books soon. Don't miss this one. It's great!

Converge

Sitting in his sandbox, playing with his toys, three-year-old Finn Cormag witnesses the moment that would determine his life's path, Ari Sloan's birth. Finn and Ari live in the same world but different dimensions. Living in the Alpha dimension allows Finn the ability to see into the lives of those living in the Beta dimension, but his only focus over the past 30 years has been Ari. Now a scientist in the Alpha dimension, Finn discovers a way to use the Between space of the two dimensions to get closer to Ari, and going against better judgment he allows Ari to become aware of his presence.

Now able to speak to and see each other, but not touch a friendship builds between the two men at the same time Alpha security increases around the Between space putting Finn's life at risk. Use of the Between space is forbidden in the Alpha dimension and could lead to death if caught and with no proven evidence it is also believed that passing through the Between space can also result in death. With Alpha security aware of his actions Finn makes the choice to risk his life to cross the between space into the Beta dimension, Ari's world.

As a sci-fi story, Converge is fantastic, but on the romance level I'm a bit discouraged. There is more to the story than just Ari and Finn, there is Ben, Ari's boyfriend and Blake, Finn's colleague. Circumstances arise to come between Ben and Ari's otherwise comfortable and what appears to be a happy relationship, Ben's not a bad guy and he and Ari did love each other. As for Finn and Blake, I hoped for more to develop between them, but Ari was and is Finn's only focus. Finn and Ari did develop a connection between one another that could possibly be the start of something beautiful, but there are many obstacles for them to overcome beginning with Finn's adjustment to living in the Beta dimension. Converge gives you a lot to think about on a scientific level, and it definitely leaves you wanting for more. Chris Owen will be giving plenty more in the sequel Merge, but unfortunately we have to wait until May to read it.

As a teacher and consultant,I find this book to be invaluable for helping awaken the "poets" in our classrooms. Betsy gives specific, concrete suggestions on how to approach the teaching of poetry to students. For teachers who feel they can not write a poem, the book provides support in why teaching poetry is important and how to get started. A great book to enjoy with your students.

Excellent recipes 1 small drawback
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 17 total.
Review Date: 2000-02-05
This book contains over 60 recipes, that are absolutely fabulous. The best part of the book is that is gives detailed illustrations of each cookie as well and detailed written techniques on how to put these cookies together. These are not your run of the mill cookie recipes by any means. The book is divided into 7 sections: drop, bar, cutout, sliced, shaped & molded, pressed and special cookies. The ingredients can be found in any store. The book also goes into basic as well as "advanced" techniques so as to not leave one puzzled about the process of cooking these cookies. For example there are sections on, basic tools for making each of the categorized cookies. Also included is a glossary as well as notes about picking and storing certain ingredients. The thing that I disliked about this book is that is in ounces w/o a conversion chart. Naturally there are different conversions from ounces to cups for liquids, fours, sugars, etc. 6ozs of butter is not the same as 6 ounces. of sugar or 6 ounces of flour. Most cookbooks I have don't use ounces, they use cups so I found that rather irritating, although I made my own conversion charts in the flaps of the book. Aside from that small drawback, I would most certainly recommend this book! Anyone who is looking to add flair to their cookie recipes is sure to find some wonderful ones in here. some of the recipes are: Orange cheesecake dreams, chocolate coconut meringue bars. liner sandwich rings, raspberry pinwheels, meringue topped lemon thins, chocolate pistachio sandwich cookie, marshmallow sandwich cookies, cinnamon snails, lemon pistachio pretzels, koulourakia, glazed almond strips, anise butterflies, lemon-ginger tea cookies, white chocolate-apricot rugelach and chocolate-dipped mushrooms. Also basic but lovely recipes for madeleines, ladyfingers and biscotti. It is also easy to modify the flavors of the cookies to meat your own desires.

This is a great little cookbook. The recipies are all clearly illustrated and easy to follow. There are lots of facts about cooking and tips for getting good cookies. The best part of the book is that the ingredients are given both in cups and in the equivalent grams and mililiters.

The authors handled the subject of Coping with Chemotherapy in a sensitive and caring manner. Members of my family have undergone chemotherapy and by reading this book it has allowed me to understand what they may have gone through both physically and emotionally. This book is a must have and I highly recommend it for teens.

An Aid For All Ages

Review Date: 2000-05-16
I had just recently lost a loved one. When I read this book I realized it was normal to go through periods of anger and denial. It helped me understand that other teenagers as well as I had also been through similar experiences. I recommend this book if you have lost anyone close to you. I know that for me it was an aid and helped me move on in life.
