It's a thick book and has lots of stuffs in it. Nearly all of most important philosophical works on consciousness in recent years are brought together in this single volume. Naturally, this is a textbook for graduate-level courses in cognitive science or philosophy of mind. And makes a quite nice source book for those who want to further their studies in artifical intelligence.
Most comprehesive book out there on the topic.

This book is easy to review, and a no-brainer for people interested on consicousness studies. It is quite simply the most complete anthology on the philosophy of consciousness out there. Papers from William James, to Dennett, Searle, Block, Naegel, and over 50 others. Qualia, explanatory gaps, zombies, inverted qualia, some scientific papers, one of the best intoductions to the field out there.....700+ pages of consciousness, consciousness, consciousness....this is essential reading, and having for anyopne interested in philosophy of mind, and scientists of mind too...the fastest way to familiarize with the vast literature on the subject. The table of contents is reason enough to buy this book, and I will not bore you with more.

I really find this an astonishing biography. The best of Cervantes I've read. I'm only halfway through it now but I know two things for sure: every last scintilla of telling information about Cervantes is up-to-date and included, and, that Prof. McCrory has a superb ability to find those larger patterns in a life and give them emotional and psychological meaning. There are moments when you look up and marvel at the tons of documents that must've been sifted to produce the simplest facts. Just to give one example among many, I understand for the first time what living in Esquivias meant to Cervantes, what it must've been like for him, and especially interesting, what it meant to be married to him. Prof. McCrory gives us an uncanny sense of what Catalina`s life was like, her financial and social situation, the impact her mother had on the marriage - and all this in a few quick lines. One never bogs down in this book with all that background information about Philip II or the Armada or the state of banditry along this road or that, as is common in other bios of Cervantes. We always know just enough to place things in context and see the influences acting on poor Miguel. I get, for the first time, a sense of his thought processes, the decisions he had to make, his real options, what the world looked like to him. This is (as much as possible) an intellectual biography as well. Superb work.

I just read this book to gain a new perspective on the meaning of craft objects in an age where contemporary craft is about more than beauty or being well-made. The essays are thoughtful, approach the subject from many different viewpoints and are mostly easy to comprehend without having to know much about the artists or philosophers mentioned. I intend to use this book to train my museum volunteers and to encourage them to think of the meaning of objects beyond their obvious purpose. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a wider philosophical perspective on art.

I would consider this one of the most important books I have read about art in quite some time. I am so excited about this book I am trying to share it with people I believe will have the same excitement. It is full of ideas about objects as an art making process and entity and what that means in contemporary art and society. This is not a book for just "craft" people, but all those that have an interest in expanding their knowledge about an often misunderstood art. Don't let the textbook look or the lack of decent images put you off, this book is worth every penny of its investigation.

This is a really sweet book. Grandpa and Owen seem a little nervous with each other when Owen comes to stay(why? why is Owen staying there? we never get an answer but it doesn't matter). Owen wants to climb the mountain he sees outside of Grandpa's window. At first Grandpa says it's too far and he's too old and Owen is too young, but then he relents. They climb and it's a long and hard journey but they make it! The illustrations are really nice and the story is just plain sweet.

Owen's Walk was written by Karen Hill, author of more than thirty children's books. (She also serves as administrative editor to best-selling author Max Lucado.) Carol Thomspon did a wonderful job as illustrator, filling the pages with color and whimsy.
After a busy morning on his grandma's farm, Owen prepares for a special adventure. Mimi, as Owen calls his grandmother, tucks tucks all sorts of things into a small backpack, including a small book, which she says is "the most important of all." She reads the leather book together with Owen then explains "The pictures in this book will remind you of a Bible verse you've learned. When you are unsure about your journey, pull out this book. The Book of Signs has the answers you'll need."
After a quick goodbye, Owen begins his journey home. At first everything is familiar, but it isn't long before he needs to reference The Book of Signs. Each page helps him find his way. He is reminded not to be afraid because God is always with him. He remembers God will help him and make him strong. The adventure is not easy, but with his verses to help him, and the tools Mimi packed, he makes it safely home.
The back of the book features two pull-out pages which show everything in Owen's pack along with the book of signs and corresponding verse. Inside is a map of his journey and Psalm 37:5 -- "Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him."
What I Like: My kids love outdoor adventures! This book is perfect for them. Each time we read it, they want to pack their own adventure bags and head outside. I love that each step of Owen's journey points him (and readers!) back to Scripture. The special features at the back are a big hit with my kids, too. Maps are a big deal with this age group, thanks to Dora the Explorer.
What I Dislike: Nothing. It's a sweet story with a good underlying message.
Overall Rating: Excellent.

As a church librarian, it's difficult to find books to use during story time that express values and Biblical truths but also tell a great story (OK, obviously minus the real stuff in the Bible). It's also difficult to keep a little boy's attention during story time. Owen's Walk has a great tone, you can just see Owen headed home and hear "mimi" guiding him. It's a wonderful adventure, and I believe it will work well being read aloud. The illustrations really bring the story to life, I especially liked the fold out map, the illustrations of the contents of Owen's backpack and the Bible verses matched up with the "signs."
Great book. A great way to express to children how God equips us each step of the way.

Think happy thoughts for dreaming..

This spoken bedtime lullaby begins with father in a rocker, daughter on his lap, reading "Panda Whispers." On her bed are stuffed animals (who will later appear in the story) also engrossed in the nighttime tale. Gentle four-line verses depict each animal and its offspring in their natural environment settling down for sleep, with each parent whispering a happy thought for dreaming. Somber colors and animals with closed eyes help impart the message that sleeping time should be gentle, safe, comforting and enjoyable. The story comes round to closing with daughter asleep on father's lap, the stuffed animals asleep on the bed, but panda wide awake in the girl's arms (father is gazing out the window). The very last page shows a contented little girl asleep in bed, clutching her sleeping panda. Cute!

A small girl sits on her father's lap by an open window overlooking the ocean. We know the window is open, because the curtain is stirring. Her stuffed animals at the foot of her bed seem to be listening to the story he reads. Each double-page spread features the real animal of which the toy is a copy. Each illustration depicts an animal parent with sleepy offspring. A gentle poem captures the essence of the moments before sleep with each animal parent whispering an appropriate thought to its young. We return to father's arms at the ending, with all of the stuffed toys as an appealing subplot. The child, now asleep, is put in her bed.
The artist is a gifted nature painter. With interesting perspectives and soft, touchable-looking animals (with the exception of the mama alligator), this is a first-rate bedtime story blending excellent text with enchanting illustrations expressing parental care.

The Politics of Bones is a fantastic read. Tim Hunt masterfully tells the story of the struggle of two brothers, their family and their countrymen in a battle against a corrupt government and an oil company ignoring the destruction of the Nigerian environment. You'll be outraged by the forces encountered by these two great men, yet inspired by the courage of the brothers Ken and Owens. This story will open your eyes to a tragedy that has been ignored for too long.

A.A. Milne was born in England in 1882 and wrote some delightful books about Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin. Pooh was actually inspired by a teddy bear belonging to Milne's son, Christopher. His books have been translated into over two dozen languages are favorites of children and adults throughout the world.
So wherever I am, there's always Pooh,
There's always Pooh and Me.
"What would I do?" I said to Pooh,
"If it wasn't for you," and Pooh said: "True,
It isn't much fun for One, but Two
Can stick together," says Pooh, says he.
"That's how it is," says Pooh.
-Us Two, pg. 3
Ernest H. Shepard illustrated the Pooh books and Milne was so pleased with the drawings for the first book that he invited Shepard out to his home in Surrey, England so he could sketch the actual woodland settings for the stories.
In this book we find "Us Two," "Winnie-The-Pooh And Some Bees," "Sneezles"and "An Expotition To the North Pole" followed by two poems and then a story about Tiger coming to the forest and a prayer.
In the first story, Pooh falls out of a tree and it wasn't quite what he meant to do. He really just wanted some honey. "Sneezles" is about Christopher Robin which is a real tongue twister. In the next story after a simple meal of marmalade spread lightly over a honeycomb or two, Pooh goes off to see if Christopher Robin wants to go off on an "Expotition." Yes, that is the spelling.
Then, I the middle of the night, Winnie-the-Pooh woke up suddenly and found a tiger named Tigger. The two have a hilarious little conversation and then after breakfast they go off to see piglet, Eeyore and Kanga.
These are the most delightful stories to read to children and have that added touch of charming humor that will delight adults and children alike. The illustrations are quite cute and the rhymes invariably silly.

Far more wieldy than the complete works of Pooh, I heartily recommend this for wee ones who are just being introduced to AA Milne`s Winnie the Pooh. This slim, light volume with an assortment of three stories and five poems and color illustrations on every page, (varying in size from one-eighth to two-thirds of a page,) is easy to hold and view. My boys, now five and seven, still find the big book rather daunting, and will ask for the "bee and balloon story," or the "Tigger story" or the "North Pole" story from this book, rather than the larger dust collector. And I should mention that the poem "Sneezles" is a favorite whenever we have to lie in bed with a cold, and this is far easier to take to bed and less lumpy to sleep on.
