I first read this book when I was eleven years old. I read it twice that year, and I'd sometimes read passages from it to pump myself up before a basketball game. Living in Australia, and without the Internet, I didn't know much about the NBA, but this book taught me a great deal.
I'm re-reading it now, and I'm surprised at how much I am enjoying it. Shaq has come a long way since then, and reading his comments on how he saw things when he first came in is interesting and illumining. The tone is relaxed and chatty, and there are plenty of funny and insightful anecdotes. This book is a gem, and at less than a dollar (second-hand), it's a must read for any basketball fan.

Wonderfully Written

Review Date: 2002-08-04
The Texas League has a long, rich and exciting history. Like numerous other minor leagues, it has had its share of stars and hereos. Some played briefly, on their way to "the show," be them future Hall of Famers, or average players. Others for whatever reasons never made it that far, and spent most of their careers playing for various Texas League teams. Their stories and the stories of so many teams are described here. O'Neal does his usual excellent job chronicling the history of the league, all of its teams, cities, and ballparks. As with all his other minor league history books, the back of the book lists league records, ranging from year to year standings, post season and All-Star game results, and yearly individual batting and pitching leaders. As I read through the chapters, some names I recognized as future major leaguers, and others were "minor league legends" I had only heard about.

This is an excellent book about the history of one of the oldest minor leagues still in existence. But given the date of publication, I wonder if it's time for O'Neal to do an update?

Good reading, excellent reference

Team-by-team, season-by-season history of the old Texas League (1888-1987). Appended with Texas League seasonal and lifetime records, standings, more. Adequately illustrated with photos. A worthy addition to the bookshelves of those interested in minor league baseball or Texas baseball.

The Loving Words Revealed

This book is a MUST read for everyone. Many organized religious sects have misused the words spoken by Jesus to gain wealth and control followers. "They Said, He Said" offers the loving intent of the words as they were recalled by those that were actually listening. Celebrate the beautiful messages that are offered through these writings. Well Done O'Neal Jacobs!!!! Thank you for reminding us that love is truly the magic of our existence!

O'Neal Jacobs has translated into the vernacular, all the attributed sayings of Jesus. Each page has the original (King James version) side by side with Jacobs' translation for modern times. Fun to read, and very enlightening. Young people might actually understand what Jesus is purported to have said. Since this is a translation from a translation from innumerable translations..it is as valid as any of its forbears!

This is a book that should be on all bookshelves... children, library, schools. The breastfeeding women, of all colors, create a sense that breastfeeding is healthy and normal. This fun, but educational book, has simple phrases about the breastfeeding relationship. It allows the caregiver and child to have a conversation about what is on the pages, in more depth if wanted.
Im sharing this with my circle of friends! We need more books like this. Thank you Mishawn!

My seven year old nephew read this book to me. He loved the information he read so much at one point he look up at me and said 'really?' I enjoyed seeing him read it and enjoying the details. He didn't make a big deal of the pictures, but I LOVED seeing the women of all backgrounds and children of all ages.

This is a delightful addition to our collection as well as the collection of a couple of the families in our circle of friends.

Thanks for writing such a long overdue book targeting young children.

The animals in Africa are losing their sense of smell and Gilbreath has to save the day! There is an ancient curse that might be clogging the animals noses, but Gilbreath and Dr Shroeder save everyone using the Nose Hose, a gross invention that Gilbreath has made. There are lots of funny smells in this book that will make you laugh.

O'Neal Scores His Usual Hit
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-04
O'Neal's look at the American Association is in his typical style of work. Well-researched and entertaining, O'Neal takes us from the league's beginning in 1902, through World Wars I & II, to the "rise and fall" of the minor leagues in the 50's, the league's demise and 'resurrection' in the 1960s.

As with other O'Neal books, it is filled with sidebars, chapters on player nicknames, stadiums, and histories of each league team. One thing about reading these books is discovering how many players you remember from your youth got their start with one of the AAA minor leagues.

While the American Association may have not have had 'dynasties,' like the Pacific Coast League and the International League, it did have a number of long-time teams, like the Minneapolis Millers & St Paul Saints, the Indianapolis Indians, and the Toledo Mud Hens just to name a few.

Any fan of this league (sadly now defunct) will enjoy this book. Also recommended are O'Neal's books on the Pacific Coast League & the International League & Dick Dobbins' book, the Grand Minor League.

The Arizona Rangers were a special force created to assist jurisdictional lawmen at the time when outlaws and criminals outnumbered lawmen in the Arizona Territory. They served from 1901 to 1909.
This book is excellent written and completed with several pictures.
It is a must have for everyone, who is interested in the old west history of the grand canyon state Arizona. It is the Story of the three AZ Ranger Captains BURTON C. MOSSMAN, THOMAS H. RYNNING and HARRY C. WHEELER and those men who helped to pave the way to statehood.

A superbly recorded, two disc, 1.9 hour audiobook production narrated by Mary Clair O'Neall, "Becoming What You Want To See In The World" examines the 'physics' of happiness and how anyone can invoke and restore passion and joy into the fabric of their lives. Replete with inspiring personal stories, "Becoming What You Want To See In The World" also provides tools and activities illustrating practical approaches to leading a more fulfilled, balanced, and meaningful life regardless of the listener's personal circumstances or economic restrictions. Especially recommended to the attention of those who are leading busy, time stressed lives, and feel they don't have the ability or opportunity to make changes in their schedules or themselves, "Becoming What You Want To See In The World" is ideal for learning how to take the time and invest the energy needed to improve the quality of life on a daily basis.

O'Neal's craft books are excellent and based on scripture

I am a former art teacher with an M. Ed. in Art. I also am a church librarian. In answer to my Sunday School teachers' need for craft resource ideas, I selected Trafton's books "Before and After Christmas" and "Before and After Easter" for them to use as resource books. These satisfy a real need for Sunday School crafts based on scripture. Each craft lesson is laid out with a Bible verse, followed by a tradition or a legend which illustrates the verse. Then follow the materials list and directions to complete the project. The books are well-designed, the directions easy to follow and nicely illustrated. I'd suggest you use them if you need additional ideas for Sunday School.

I have used this excellent book in teaching preschool teachers about the symbolism and the activities for the lenten season.

The activities are wonderful expressions of this holy season. The layout of the book includes a background on the activity as well as the activity and ways in which to use within the classroom or the family. Very spiritual and uplifting resource guide for any teacher.

In my particular teaching setting, I have encouraged all teachers to purchase this book.
