A Practical, Comprehensive Guide to Raising Toddlers and PreschoolersReview Date: 2008-09-08
What I really like about this book is that it's practical. It gives real solutions for how to handle very specific scenarios. In fact, the list is so extensive that you're sure to find a solution to your particular parenting problems. Written by Michelle Nicholasen--a mom who had five children in five years (including triplets)--and Barbara O'Neal--a mother of three children (and three grandchildren) who has worked with preschool-aged children for more than 40 years--the authors bring a wealth of wisdom and experience to the table. Every parent with a 2- to 5-year-old needs to pick up "I Brake for Meltdowns." It will give them hope that they can survive the trials of raising toddlers and preschoolers!
Great resource for new parents; great reminders & tools for experienced parents.Review Date: 2008-10-22
Targeted to common parenting challenges -- e.g., pushing, mean & angry talking, refusing to stay at the dinner table -- the book suggests very specific words & actions parents can use with young children for each particular issue -- with a loving, respectful, but firm tone that most of us aspire to, but don't always achieve. So busy parents can flip right to the problem at hand for a quick refresher on an ideal response, or for another approach to try when you're stuck in a parenting rut. The authors include lots of examples & solutions from their own experience that really ring true & make this a much more practical & helpful resource than most of the parenting books I've consulted over the years.

It's like being there with the Indians and Jesuit Priests.Review Date: 1999-08-06
Religion Undefiled...-James 1:27Review Date: 2004-05-24
Deuteronomy 24:17 Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge.
What I remember from this book was the contrast between two jesuit priests sent into the wilds of Quebec to live among the tame Huron Indian tribe. One priest truly understood the love of God, the other, more legalistic and harsh, a rules rules kind of person, carrying his cross, rosary, bible wherever he went. The vector of the epidemic which rages amongst the Huron peoples following the jesuits arrival comes from one of the implements of their faith.
Kathleen O'Neal Gear and her husband Michael are both archeologists who have worked in the past for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Years ago, I read their series of books on American Indian tribes of North America which starts with The People of the Wolf, the account of the indians migration across the Bering Strait. Totally loved those books, learned so much about the different tribes' lifestyle and culture. Some common misconceptions of these people disproved by the evidence found hidden underneath the dirt covering their remains.

Another good work from Syngress!Review Date: 2003-06-20
Good info throughout, but this 1st Ed should be 256 pagesReview Date: 2002-04-02
Unlike the attack-minded "Hack Proofing Your Network, 2nd Ed", HPYWN is indeed a defensive-oriented book. It offers strong overviews of widely deployed wireless technologies. These include modern cellular networks and wireless area networks created by 802.11, Bluetooth, and HomeRF. HPYWN offers sound advice on making the best use of available wireless defensive mechanisms, despite acknowledging that Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is "broken." An overview of popular wireless assessment tools like Netstumbler is helpful although not especially thorough...
Of the book's nine chapters, chapters 2
(A Security Primer, 50 pages) and 8 (Auditing, 43 pages) don't add anything original to the current body of published security
books. Furthermore, many wireless security topics are discussed repeatedly. For example, I didn't need to read in chapters
1, 4, 5, and 6 that WEP's insecurities stem from weak Initialization Vectors. Other recommendations on changing default configurations,
enabling logging, and so on also appear in multiple sections. The editor should have consolidated this information to avoid
wasting the reader's time.
Overall, Syngress should be credited for getting into the wireless game with this book.
I would have preferred to see protocol decodes, thorough documentation and usage examples for wireless assessment tools, and
in-depth VPN deployment guidance. Should the second edition of HPYWN contain this information, it will justify its current
page count.

The Poet Speaks Well! Review Date: 2006-09-30
Her words translate feelings and emotions and conjure up inner visions of life around her. She transcends the ordinary at times and wanders across the pages with her simple words strung together that make emotional connections with the reader. Her over-all work in this collection is pure gold. I think the only way this book could be appreciated more would be to hear her give a live performance reading her poems in a gentle voice that I am sure would radiant with the fullness of her heart.
O'Neal even has a couple of moving poems that reflect the happenings of 9/11. The book over-all feeling is one of compassionate acceptance with who you are. She writes a wonderful poem to that effect in her strongest poem of the book titled "Birthmark". She conveys full appreciation and comfort at being who she is--"from toasted skin to chocolate dark." and even with her place in life. These were obviously written by a very secure and confident woman. There is lots of that feminine energy flowing but not enough to scare away male readers. It is not pushed as any kind of agenda--she just is what she is and it comes across as satisfied and honest.
I strongly recommend this wonderful book of poetry. It comes in a simple hardback book with a black front cover with an image of an empty stage with a microphone. On the back cover there is an elegant portrait of the poet herself.

SOMBER YET PRETTYReview Date: 2003-06-23
O'Neal that covers a gamut of life experiences. The poems will evoke emotion
and paint vivid pictures of the pain and hurt that many people experience.
The mood of the collection is somber, but laced with hope. Pieces like 'Jump
The Fence' speak to the resilience of the human spirit. In this poem, O'Neal
talks about escaping and her words are so vibrant, you are running with her and
planning your own escape.
O'Neal uses her words like a painter uses color in his work. She creates a
world between each syllable and punctuation
mark. The poems will leave you
sighing and pondering. She ends the collection with a thoughtful tribute to
September
11. After delving the reader into the abyss of sadness that
surrounds that day, she dips the tip of her brush into yellow
paint and leaves
us with 'Lessons Learned,' reminding us that there is always hope in the midst
of darkness.

This poet definitely speaks to you!Review Date: 2003-01-01
We often think of poetry as a fast read or a complicated read. You will want to read this book again and again as you find that you have favorites throughout the book. My personal favorites were "Choices," "Guide Me" and "Word of Mouth" to name a few. Terry O'Neal not only speaks to you, but she teaches you a thing or two about life with her words and experiences. That's what poetry is all about.
It's a beautiful book inside and out: well written, well designed, well spoken and well worth the purchase! Congratulations to this sister poet for such stylistic, heart-grabbing poetry. Her words on life, history, family, relationships and self will have you believing she wrote the book just for you! I can't wait to read another selection by this author. Not only does this poet speak in "black," but she also speaks with a language that your soul can understand. Great book of poems, a must have if you call yourself a poet and/or poetry reader!

Very Entertaining!Review Date: 2008-04-11
"SHE WAS THE MOST SCANDALOUS WOMAN IN LONDON
Her escapades were legendary, her love affairs shocking. Celebrated mistress of the Crown Prince, intimate of Oscar Wilde, the twice-wed, twiced-widowed Christina Wentworth-Gibbons, duchess of Wynterbrooke, had yet to meet her match in any man.
HE WAS THE MOST NOTORUOUS OUTLAW IN THE LAND
The rugged, ruthless outlaw the world had dubbed the Brighton Bandit was a man of smoldering sensuality and insatiable appetites. With a spirit and daring that rivaled Christina's own, he swept the bewitching beauty into his midnight world of sin and misadventure...a world more seductive-and dangerous-than any she had ever known, until now.
Yet the moment this highwayman clashed with the rebellious Christina, he was lost...lost in the sensual magic of an unforgettable woman who made him burn for what could never be his- and whose tender courage dared his hating heart to love."
