I love this guide. If you plan on doing any type of auto travel in Canada, then this book is for you. It's easy to read, easy to use, and packed with information that will help you get where you need to go and find something to do when you get there. It provides solid suggestions for things to do at your destination, including restaurants, parks, special events, and popular tourist attractions. It beats the heck out of a generic atlas!

My wife and I travel to Atlantic Canada every summer. We have used a variety of guidebooks including this one, which is definitely our favorite. The authors have obviously spent a lot of time in the region, and as a result they have come up with a good range of places to see, things to do, and where to stay and eat.

The reccommendations of where to stay are particularly helpful. We find the provincial tourist guides good, but their accommodation listings won't really tell you which are good or bad. This book does, and we find the reviews both accurate and very helpful. Seafood is the favorite food around Atlantic Canada, and the authors have obviously enjoyed researching this section of the book, with choices we rarely find fault with.

Also importantly, the book is very well organized and easy to find your way around. There are no color photos, which is a shame, but otherwise, this book is a worthwhile investment if you're traveling to this part of Canada.

This broadcast was a classic of the OLD TIME RADIO era. Re-mastered for clean audio anyone who is a fan of the Basil Rathbone-Nigel Bruce shows will like this well written mystery. For those new to the old radio programs, you will find this tape far superior to current books on cassette with better acting and sound effects.

Review of Multicultural Counseling: Context, Theory and Practice, and Competence, edited by Jerry Trusty, Eugenie Joan Looby, and Daya Sandhu.

This book was designed as a text for counseling students, and I found it useful for that purpose. Each chapter includes case examples to show how theories and models of counseling are applied to clients. Also, at the end of each chapter, experiential activities for classes and small groups are included. In general, the case examples and activities are appropriate and some are very creative.

Overall, the text is comprehensive, well-organized, and current. Regarding comprehensiveness, the book is structured to address the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accreditation standards, including chapters on areas not covered by some multicultural texts, such as spirituality, GLBT counseling, and counseling people with disabilities. In particular, the identity development chapter is very comprehensive as compared to most multicultural texts, covering various models for several diverse groups. Regarding organization, the chapters flow in logical sequence, avoiding many of the problems common to edited books. The chapters are more general rather than esoteric in focus, making the text most appropriate for master's-level counseling students.

Several current and emerging issues and areas are included in the book. For example, in the chapter on spirituality, a new model of spiritual identity development is presented, and the identity development chapter covers material on Biracial identity development. Several chapters are written by authors who are well-established and recognized in their specific areas. There is no chapter specifically on multicultural assessment; however, this topic is covered in several chapters.

The book has a very detailed index, easy-to-read print, and is of manageable size. I strongly recommend it as a text for introductory, master's-level counseling courses.

Riveting True Story of survival at Sea

The Newfoundlanders in this book show the intelligence, determination, and resourcefulness of these island people. Once you start this book you can't put it down. All those that love the sea will enjoy this book. The North Atlantic can be very unfriendly and you really get to see it first hand here. It is hard to believe that people can over come such hardships and battle 'mother nature,' but step by step we see it here. Great reading.

From Planeta Journal - This anthology gathers 16 of editor David Rothenberg's favorite essays from the first 10 issues of the journal I never heard of. The book format suits the subject well. The New Earth Reader marks an effort to reconcile the human and natural worlds. The highlights of this collection are Rothenberg's interview with the translator of the Chief Seattle Speech and one of the best essays about the US-Mexico border, "Tune Country" by Charles Bowden.

Fur Trade History is Flourishing!!

Review Date: 2001-03-27
This book presents the latest scholarship on a wide variety of topics in the lively field of fur trade history. By making available many of the best papers presented at the Halifax conference, this book brings to a broad audience the research of scholars young and old who have studied several important aspects of what may fairly be described as one of the fundamental themes in early North American history. Topics range from biographies to economic, social, and cultural history. This book demonstrates that the field is alive and well, and that fur trade history can certainly offer important materials for students and teachers of American or Canadian history.

A 'Must Read' for Students of African Politics
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-14
This book is an additional welcome to the wealth of literature that already exists on Nigeria's foreign policy. However, it stands out from the rest of the pack because of its comprehensive approach to the subject.

The analysis is divided into two main parts: the first deals with regional politics while the second essentially addresses politics on a global scale. The book starts its analysis right from the very beginning of Nigeria's foreign policy history (the Balewa years) and spans right through the present days (the Obasanjo Administration). It also covers different regions of the world (West Africa, Southern Africa, France, the United States, the European Union, Israel, Russia). In addition, the book provides a useful tool for research and further analysis. By that I mean that readers can take advantage of a bibliograpghy on Nigerian foreign policy that spans from 1960-2004. This is indeed a 'must read' for all students of Nigeria's foreign policy. Kudos to the editors.
