Of all the books that I have read in my lifetime, this is one that I wish I never had to. The death of a father is one of the most difficult things that we can ever expererience and one that I went through recently. This book cuts through the trite and simple ("He's in a better place" etc) and offers a viewpoint that is more the way of a fellow traveler along a very difficult passage in life. I left this book knowing that I was not alone or crazy, and with a sense of having my feelings acknowledged as reasonable and necessary components of the healing process. The authors touch a nerve with this work and I would highly recommend it for any man who unfortunately finds himself in need of it.

A Must Read for men of any age, who have experienced their Dad dying.

My daughter bought this book for me while she was home for my father's funeral. It was such a good "source" to help me begin the journey of not having a "living" father. My mother had died 10 years earlier, but it is not the same experience. Since reading this book, I have purchased 4 more, for a brother, my 2 sons, and my late best-friend's son. Whether you are 60 like me, or 30's , it still helps. It is full of "experiences" shared by other men they interviewed.

A great book with a Christian dimension
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-08
In this wonderful book, two Christian authors discuss the subject of the death of a father, and its affects it has on sons. Based on years of working with men, both old and young, this book shows how the death affects men, what they experience and how they deal with it. But, it goes on to discuss how men should face the future, and think about the legacy that they themselves will leave. As an added bonus, each chapter ends with a series of question to make you think about what you are going through.

Overall, I found this to be a great book. Yes, it was written by two conservative Christians, so expect it to have a Christian slant. In fact, I liked the Christian slant, which added a real dimension of spirituality that many books don't bother to discuss.

I am now a son without a father, and it's something that affects me much more than I ever expected. I am glad that I got this book, which really spoke to me. (I never picked up this book without ending up with tears in my eyes.) I think this book is great, and I give it my highest recommendations.

Every Christian should read this book instead of listening to the 628 right wing radio talk show personalities that make up the liberal media.(You like that one!) Two men named Jesus. Both claim to be the Messiah. Which one will we follow? Jesus said"Do unto others as others would do unto you". Not "Do unto others before they do you in." We need to follow the Jesus of love not power. Tony Campolo is a voice crying in the wilderness for our day.

Like every book Tony Campolo writes, this one will challenge you... and change you. "Which Jesus?" is an especially appropriate read these days, urging us to choose between the way of love and the way of power, and the Jesus which represents each.
I used to hate Campolo because every thing he said angered me. When I grew up a little, I realized that just reading/listening to those who were telling me what I already believed was a very foolish way to live.
If you want to be challenged, read this short book. Well worth the time and effort. And read the rest of what Campolo has written as well... you may get angry now and again, but you won't be sorry.

This little 80 page book will challenge and reinforce your faith at the same time. How do we apply the simplest principles of Jesus' teaching to our family, our politics, and our world-view? Should we try to apply "turn the other cheek" to the war on terror? Does the true strength of Christianity come from love or power? With beautiful examples throughout history of how love trumps power (eventually), Tony Campolo once again provides profound insights on how faith should shape and change our lives.

I ordered this book on pre-release several years ago. I have laughed my way though it. Children are fascinated by the illustrations, and they love the stories. All the great ones fom the Bible. Moses, Adam & Eve,Noah, David & Goliath, Jesus and the Little Children.

I am a pastor and loaned his book out to a 5 year old girl, to keep her interested in something as I was talking with her parents. After I stopped counseling with them I thoughtI wouldn't see the book again, so I began a search for another copy only to find out it was no longer in print. I located it through Amazon was able to buy it. The day after I received the new one, the little girl brought my copy back and I told her it was hers to keep. Tears of happiness and a big hug followed. Thank you for helping me introduce a little girl to a Christian outlook on life.

Frank Peretti is a master storyteller and his talent shines through with this book. From the age appropriate text to the eye-catching, comical pictures, this book is a worthy investment. And on CD Frank Peretti is his expressive, wild and wacky self.

Although this books is truly focused for young children, I've found that teens, adults, and seniors enjoy the pictures and sometimes even the CD!

Note that the audio CD is NOT a word for word read along CD. The CD actually has a lot more details than you will find in the text. With that said it is still delightful to listen to the CD and follow along with the pictures.

Our son just loves these stories is alway picking up the book to read. The stories are funny and at the same time you learn a lesson from the bible.

Follow the young RN pilot's rise thru the ranks of the fleet air arm during WW-II. This is a great story about a Royal Navy escort carrier and the men who sail in her and the missions assigned to it; from Norway into the south west Pacific.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. Reeman's ability to get into the head of Tim Rowan, the Fleet Air Arm fighter pilot, was amazing. I felt that he had gotten completely into Rowan's mind and gave the reader a full appreciation of the perils a naval aviator faces on the high seas in wartime. The secondary characters (e.g. Tim's closest friend, the arrogant admiral, and some members of the carrier's crew) stood up well on their own and rounded out the story very nicely.

Excellent story on little known Royal Navy carrier

This is the story of pilots who served in Royal Navy escort carriers in World War II. These ships were not the head-line attracting fleet carriers; rather these were the "Woolworth Carriers" turned out by the dozens by Henry Kaiser's shipyards on both coasts. A number of these ships were sent to the Royal Navy and this is the story of one of them.

The charecters of the pilots and ship's officers are well developed and complex, like all of us. It is a mix of old professionals and young amateurs who rapidly gain the skills and instincts of their long serving shipmates. There is conflict along the way, from the lowest pilot to the admiral commanding the operations. There is the added mix of several Dutch aircrew into the mix that adds both to the tension and humor of the story. There is the added distraction, for the men, of having to fit domestic problems into their already full plate of matters to be dealt with, and it isn't always easy for some of them. Finally, there is the sense of loss you will discover when after an operation, the returning pilots are celdbrating on the flight deck and someone notices the support crew of one aircraft that didn't return, just standing on the flight deck looking into the distance on the off chance that "their" aircraft would return.

The scope of operations is vast, ranging from the North Atlantic to the North Sea, the Southwest Pacific and finally home in the UK.

This story is a fine rendition of the trials and tribulations of a little known type of ship in the Royal Navy. It rings with authenticity on every page. This should be in every person library who has an interest in Naval operations during World War II.

A must read for abused women
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-27
This book is about a woman, Leslie, who is verbally and emotionally abused by her husband, Charles. I felt that this book did a good job in portraying what all a typical abused woman goes through. The book mentioned "Job's friends", so-called friends who told her that if she had more faith, prayed more, submitted more to her husband, etc, etc, then the abuse would go away. Leslie's self-worth plummets as her husband picks on her about how she spends money, how she does her hair, giving her a "failing report card", etc. Leslie leaves her husband, but like a lot of abused women, she returns to him, because she misses him and thinks that if she could be a better wife, her husband wouldn't mistreat her. There are many other things that happen in the book, but I don't want to ruin the book for you by saying what happens. I do feel that this book is a must read for woman going through abusive situations.

I loved the character of Zoe, Leslie's mother. We all need a mother like her, praying for us and helping us out of such
difficult situations.

The book, I felt, dealt well with the issue of whether a spouse needs to leave someone who is abusive and in what
circumstances it is best to separate. And the description of Charles was chilling!

The only reason I didn't give this book a 5 rating was because of cuss words that are in this book. I always feel that
profanity takes away from an otherwise good book, but this book is a Christian-based book, and I don't feel that the cuss
words have a place in Christian-based fiction. I know that the author was trying to get a point across, but it was difficult
to read at the times because of the language, which fortunately, wasn't too frequent.

The book, overall, is a must read for women going through abusive situations. It is clear that the author did her homework on this one.

Beverly wrote a gripping story about the patterns of abuse that can occur in a mariage and which in turn, affects the whole family. She made the characters very real and did not try to "sugar coat" the problem. This is a book that you will not be able to put down and the story will keep your interest until the last word is written. I wholeheartedly recommend this book!

I really enjoyed this book to the fullest. I checked it out from the library and was so wrapped up in it that I read it in 4 days! I am looking forward to the sequel! It is so sad that there are actually women out there in the world going through stuff like this. It makes you wonder why God would allow something like this to happen, but that shows that when things like this happen we need to trust in God and lean on him for help. God said he woldn't put on us more than we could bare. As long as we trust in him, he will see us through

As a young reader (20), I loved the book, Women of Destiny. It was a great encouragement to me as a young lady. It showed me how God can use women just as well as men. I was struggling with knowing for sure if God had called me into the ministry. However, after reading this book and others like it and doing a lot of praying, God showed me that children and youth ministry is where he wants me to be. I want to thank all the many women who took the time to share their stories in the book. May God bless you always.

Before I became a born again Christian, I was very much "one of the boys" in that most of my friends were men as I seemed to get on better with them than with women. I realised after becoming a Christian, that I needed to develop my "femininity" and to relate more to women - which is why I bought this Bible. When I first saw it and looked through it, I didn't like it much as I felt it looked TOO feminine and that it wasn't much of a study bible, etc. But each time I picked it up, I became more and more struck by how beautiful it is - the purple leather cover, lettering and lovely font - not forgetting the great inspirational letters. I found myself becoming more and more drawn to this Bible. To me, this Bible has a strong spiritual "presence", for everytime I open it, it evokes everything that I believe a Christian woman should be - warm, loving, inspiring, comforting, maternal and supportive. I know that may sound a litte strange to some of you, but, thats what I sense (my other Bibles don't have the same effect). I now carry this Bible with me to work and home again because its so wonderful to have! Sisters, I truly recommend this Bible to you. God bless you all!

I have been reading from this bible for a year now. Dispersed throughout the books of the bible are interjections of sample prayers that relate to the theme or story on the page. It is a fantastic display of "application" where Gods word is concerned. The user may have someone or some situation come to mind as she reads the word and/or the sprinkled commentaries throughout. The mentoring bible teaches them to pray accordingly, applying what the lesson taught.
The commentary at the beginning of each book of the bible is also very good. Marilyn is an astute student of the word. Accomplished teacher, minister and administrator. Highly qualified to mentor. From a teacher stand-point she almost almost unparalleled!
. Reccommend it to every woman. Especially those who care about others and having a clear understanding of what the bible is all about.Women Of Destiny Bible Women Mentoring Women Through The Scriptures

I'm on the board of Christian Business Leaders (http://www.cblw.org) and we have an extensive library of Christian business-related books. Women, Faith and Work is one of the best books we have for women. It is written by the Life@Work company, which is highly respectable. The women interviwed for the book clearly have close relationships with Christ, their famlies and co-workers. They are excellent examples of what it means to have faith in Christ during hard times and giving Him credit in successful times. The women share their failures and successes leaving no stones unturned. I also recommend the companion book The Fourth Frontier. It really is a companion book for Christian men.

We rarely get the chance to get close to someone who has a significant position in business or a profession. Even if we hear that she is a Christian, we often have to watch from afar to see how she works out her faith in the workplace. Lois Flowers has bridged that gap by providing ten intimate portraits of women who have meshed faith and business practice. These are honest women who let us know where they have failed and where they have struggled, but who hold out the example that our jobs can be platforms for the glory of God--even high-stakes jobs where the cross is more apt to be an offense to non-believers.

Women, Faith and Work takes you into the lives of ten remarkable women. Each one being very different from the rest. The tie that binds these women is their unfaltering faith and service to our Creator. No matter the routine of their day, each manages to have their priorities in order: God, family, then work. This book serves as an inspiration to women who struggle to meet society's expectations of the successful businesswoman, or even the successful mom. Each woman interviewed glorifies God through her work. They prove that putting our lives into the right perspective, which is God's perspective, serves as the best tool for success. Their examples make it evident that when we submit to His will for our lives, we experience our success--the success He has destined for our earthly lives. These women show us how to give God the credit for our blessings and, in that, witness to others. This book is a must-read for any woman with a desire to find the perfect plan for her life...God's plan.

The back of the book calls this "a visionary travel journal of poetic prose." No kidding! It's all that, and more. I felt like a voyeur hiding inside the mind of author Nelson Gary -- secretly watching all the mystical, intimate details of this incredible honeymoon in Mexico. What a trip! (In every sense of the expression!) The book even FEELS good -- with a gorgeous embossed cover that introduces the "day of the dead" images cleverly carried throughout the book. In fact, the artwork and design of this book, (done by Darrin Brenner Rolat -- what else has she done? She's amazing!) is worth the price of the book! Can you tell that I LOVE THIS BOOK? It's fun to read and amazing to look at. All my friends want to borrow my copy -- so I'm buying a stack to give as holiday gifts.(I don't want to share mine!). God what I'd give to meet the author and find out if he's as cool in person as in print!
