I read this book from cover to cover today at work and being an "Andy of Mayberry" fan (and I love to cook, too), I found it delightful and typed 4 of the 'choicest' recipes. I'd love to own it and to give it to some special friends for Christmas, too.

I bought the book thinking it was just a little "Andy Griffith" nostalgia, but was pleasantly surprised when the recipes were actually great! As a mother of 6, my family welcomed some new ideas for dinner (I welcomed that they were simple to make)! Also get "Aunt Bea's Delightful Desserts."

I took a walk down memory lane with Aunt Bee, Andy and Barney along with many other cast members! The wonderfully basic old-fashioned recipes brought back memories of simple times. The book is packed with black/white and color photos along with lots of dialog from the show which made me laugh and caused me to remember the episodes that I thought were long forgotten. The book has a table of contents each for Episodes and Recipes which made it easy to find whatever I was looking for. I am pleased that the recipes are simple and easy. Many of the recipes are created with basic ingredients that allowed me to use what I already had on hand in the pantry without running to the store to get a special ingredient and the results were scrumptious!

I ordered this book, and it just came in the mail recently. I sat down and read it all in one sitting. Bet ya don't know which of the guys's favorite cartoon character is Alvin from The Chipmunks! And which one's favorite quote came from a South African pastor?

The chapters in this book include:
Overview Of The Band; Making The Promise; Taking It To The World; Jason Perry; Lights, Camera, Action; Jeremy Mhire; Hit The Road; Nathan Walters; It's Not What You Might Think; Nate Cole; Here In My Heart; Gabe Combs; Facing the Future; Fear Not; To The Fans; and Just The Facts.

Definately a cool book, and lots of cool pics too! If you're a fan of Plus One, you'll love it!

This book is a treat for any fan of this group. It's a bit thin, but is put together in a colourful fashion with lots of fun photos of the guys. Each member of the group gets his own profile and history with personal as well as publicity photos. A real bargain.

Andrew Peterson's "The Ballad of Matthew's Begats" is a whimsical must for parents, Sunday School Teachers, grandparents, AWANA leaders, pastors, and anyone who is seeking a purpose-filled synopsis of the begats of the book of Matthew. A CD accompanies the text and is guaranteed to please young and old alike. Though this is a children's book, Andrew has added wit and wisdom in the margins of his simplistic, rhyming rendition of this classic true story. We have shared this book with 3's who adore it, our adult Sunday School class who were charmed by its humor (a few gems thrown in when least expected), and our children who have contemplated their own places in this story.

My family has really appreciated Andrew Peterson's Christmas album, so a book from one of the songs on that album was of immediate interst to us. The lyrics which are the backbone of this book come from a song tracing the genealogy of Jesus as found in Matthew's gospel. If you can do that in an interesting way in a kids' book you have accomplised something! And Peterson does it. He includes little "Did you know?" facts along the way on various people in the genealogy. This is a fun and educational book. It also comes with a CD of the song.

ARE YOU A HAPPY PERSON, IF NOT READ THIS BOOK

We in the United States have so much to be happy about, but are we happy? Everytime i go over seas i come back humbled. You see a lot of the foreign countries have a lot of poor people. This being said, i find that some of the poorest countries have people with some of the happiest hearts. You see it doesn't take money or mataerial goods to be happy.

I think we need to do a self inspection about our attitudes and see if we can make some adjustments.

This book tells about how to change your way of thinking about attitudes. Like the title suggests "THE BE HAPPY ATTITUDES", i think we can and should change our attitude about life. Life is beautiful thing and i think we should be happy to be alive.

I WOULD LIKE TO STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

Another Powerful Work

Dr. Schuller is a gifted communicator who helps you to see beyond assumptions. On perception, consider the quote in this book from Karl Menninger, "Attitudes are more important than facts!" Attitude relates to need. We are interdependent and being aware of that truth is liberating. In the body of Christ, we are gifted to contribute to others. In turn, we receive the benefits of other people's efforts on our behalf. Or as Dr. Schuller puts it, "...the deepest need of the human being is the need to be needed." We need to use our gifts. Our satisfaction comes from making a difference. Humility is admitting we need help.

In reading Dr. Schuller's works, including this one, there is a realization that here is a man who is writing from first hand experience. He so powerfully teaches on forgiveness that you just know only a person who has mastered that challenge can so eloquently address the issue. This is an encouraging look at the Beatitudes. One additional point worth pondering is that Dr. Schuller believes Jesus gave them as a logical progression. He believes that one is a stepping stone to the next one.

The Magic rules to be Happy-Attitude Makes a Difference!

Robert Schuller's another Best Spiritual release drawing from the famous section of the Sermon on the Mount, the Bible tales. Rob emphasis on the eight positive mental attitudes that transforms life. Rob says 'Let faith flow freely...and you can climb the rugged mountains, cross the stormy seas and fly on high skies. This is one great book I possess which helps me easen up my spirits when things really fall apart. When mysteries of life encircle you to find the inner feeling 'How to be Happy' inspite of good health, wealth, friends, job satisfaction etc, its a bed side shelf book to peek into the 'Be Happy Attitudes' :
1. I need Help, I can't do it alone!
2. I'm really hurting but going to bounce back
3. I'm going to remain cool, calm and corrected
4. I really want to do the right thing
5. I'm going to treat others the way I want them to treat me
6. I've got to let faith flow freely through me
7. I'm going to be a bridge builder
8. I can choose to be happy, anway!

If you really want to read the 'right stuff' - adopt a 'Go for it' Attitude towards your life and dreams.

Reflects the wisdom and happiness needed but not practiced!

I think this is a excellent book for anyone. The book brings out the morals and virtues that we all bascically believe in, but don't necessarily portray or adopt into our lives. This is a positive book which relates to any situation from spiritual to chewing gum (HaaaHaa). This is a real book about real every day situations. A highly recommend this authors' books, though they might be repetitious from book to book. The advantage of the repetition is ok in a sense that it is sort of testing your memory or retaining of information, which is good because you will know if you got the message. All good things........ENJOY>>>>>>>>

Becoming a Woman of Grace was a wonderful study! It went back to the basics of christianity by defining the purpose of the law (10 commandments) and the purpose and reason for grace! I have always been impressed with Cynthia Healds books... they provide a great format for getting into the word and really learning what it means to be a better woman for Christ!

Another excellent book in Cynthia Heald's "Becoming a Woman of..." series.

Helpful for both new beginners in Bible study as well as those who have had more experience, and useful for both individual as well as group study.

The format keeps the individual/group interested, it is a good combination of looking up Bible verses and reading well-chosen quotes/commentary selections. Also, it is not simply a book for amassing more knowledge, but you are challenged to apply what you are learning.

If you want to learn more about God's grace and how His grace helps you to become a woman of grace, this is the book/Bible study for you!

Excellent Find!

This is the first book by Cynthia Heald that I have ever purchased, and I am hooked! It is the absolute best Bible study/devotional I have ever purchased. You are prompted to read short excerpts from the Bible and are then given questions from the author that allow you to reflect on what you have read. There is space provided for comments, as well as additional empty "notes" pages in the back. I am a very hands on learner so this format is great for me. Although, I am a daily Bible reader, this study has really helped me to grasp the power and awe of God's grace. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

What a wonderful set of books!!!

Cynthia's Heald's books "Becoming a woman of..." books are excellent for any woman, whether you are just starting to read the Bible or have read it 10 times. Cynthia's writing style was truly impressive to me. Each chapter starts with a reflective Bible verse and an exerpt from a Christian author or speaker. Then it gives you three or four different verses to look up in the Bible, sections to write your notes, and then a section with the Author's reflection on the concept of the chapter. The chapters increase in complexity, each more challenging as you go on through the book. I bought them all at once, along with "Loving Your Husband" which is also in this Bible study format.

I read a few other books, and they were good in that they told me what I needed to change to be a good husband. This book was different in that it had a plan on how to repair your marriage and how to use what I had learned in real life. It had a few steps that you both can do to get on the right track. I appreciated the honesty and frankness of the guidance. You or your spouse has the option for divorce, but if you don't want to choose that, it show you what you need to do and work on to fix things.

Tim Clinton's book "Before a Bad Goodbye" is easy to read, is full of stories, practical advice, and most importantly hope. The first part of the book explains how you got to where you are in your marriage (you will think he is writing about YOU) and the second half of the book is how to rekindle your love for one another, even when one spouse is doing most of the trying. Tim Clinton emphasizes that marriages are sacred and holy ground, but he provides hope so that you don't feel like you are "gutting it out" for the next 20 or 40 years, just because God says so. It will help you fall in love all over again, and with the person God has given you. God bless you, and never, never, give up, and never, never lose hope!

Maw's memories of my brother, King, were never intended to be published in a book. Jotting things down about him helped her cope. She went through several emotional stages during that time. I think she first started writing to keep King alive. Then, she was able to voice her anger on paper. She found a constructive way to release her frustrations. Ultimately, it helped her let go.
She reflected back on her journal and realized the need for a book of this nature. Many people reject or ignore the facts of AIDS. She thought her personal journal might be helpful to someone else facing a similar battle with AIDS. She shares her thought process during a trying time and offers ways for readers to reach out. It took alot of courage to have her journal published. King is smiling.

Dear Ms. Nelson,

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

I wish you all the best and success with your book and any future endeavours.

I would however, like to personally commend you on your accomplishment. Although there is no way I could even imagine what the loss of a child is like, I can relate to the loss of someone so cherished. Knowing there are amazing people such as you, stepping forward with such a determined voice, is what helps remind people the fight against HIV/AIDS is far from over. I'm certain King would be proud of you and would cherish your overwhelming love and devotion to him.

Sincerely,

Before, During and After Aids: A Mother's Love and Memories

Written by: Joan Thomas Nelson

"Before, During and After Aids: A Mother's Love and Memories," is a topic that is dear to my heart. My cousin passed away in her late twenties, of HIV/AIDS. She was a remarkable young woman, with two young children. I watched her as she went from the perfect picture of health, to the frailty that accompanies this disease.

Joan Thomas Nelson boldly discusses the issues that homosexual people are sadly faced with. They are ridiculed, shunned, rejected, taunted and isolated, simply because of their sexual orientation. Their families also face shame, a myriad of questions as to their loved ones' illness or early passing, whispered conversations as they pass those aware of the individuals illness or death etc. It's as if those infected with HIV/AIDS, and their family members, are counted as dead, long before they die. I say this because those who hand out these harsh sentences of judgment upon those inflicted with HIV/AIDS, act as though the individual has no emotions and cannot be affected by their disturbing callousness, and plain disregard for them.

There are the cold-hearted comments made in regards to homosexual individuals, which are made by our lawmakers. There are the hypocritical comments and actions of those who profess to love God and then, in the same breath, condemn those living with the HIV/AIDS virus. And, sadly, there are those parents who choose to disown or suddenly stop loving their children because they are homosexual.

Joan Thomas Nelson shares misconceptions and myths about HIV/AIDS, as well as ideas for the prevention of it. She shares the different facets of grieving, along with the sweet memories of her son. I commend Joan Thomas Nelson on her courage and bravery to step forward and write on this topic. We, as a society, wonder why there are such high levels of hate crimes in our communities. We needn't wonder, when it is much like the rolling stone that collects moss. If our government officials are speaking this way of those afflicted with HIV/AIDS, why would civilians act or speak any differently?

Joan Thomas Nelson eloquently and truthfully educates her readers on all aspects concerning the HIV/AIDS illness. She teaches us, through her gentle and humble spirit, what it means to genuinely care for those that are afflicted with it. She calls for an accountability of those in the professional realm to stand up and help reframe the thinking of our society, as a whole. She challenges us, as a reader, to help play a part in reconstructing our society's viewpoint on this horrendous illness, and those tragically affected by it -- one reader at a time.

I urge each reader to consider bringing this book to the attention of the Department of Education, within their community, in the hopes of having a copy of this book on the shelves of local high schools. In my opinion, it should be a required read in every high school across the country. We have much to learn on this topic, and Joan Thomas Nelson is obviously willing and quite capable, to educate us.

Before, During and After AIDS A Mother's Love and Memories by Joan Thomas Nelson is necessary read for everyone. I usually write objective reviews, but it is hard to do when something touches you deeply, brings you to tears, and provokes anger toward society.
Joan Thomas Nelson educates through the life of a mother, caregiver, son, family and friends.

She shares the heart wrenching experience of the disease AIDS/HIV, thought patterns of a society with preconceived notions that this is a homosexual disease. I never have realized how ignorant people where during the 80's and 90's about the disease.

She writes a Mother's recollection so vividly from his birth until his spirit wisps toward the heavens. A caregiver's guide to surviving AIDS because that is what this book is, coping, loving and living through HIV and its horrendous affects on the human body.

King was an extraordinary man full of vigor accepting people without judgment, prejudice, or umbrage. He had every right to become ill tempered, but never showed this toward his friends or family. His live and let live attitude should be a blessing toward anyone who reads this engrossing account of his life.

Nelson gives her entire soul to this project of preservation of what a family endures; a patient endures from beginning until the end. She allows you to travel through her grieving process, anger toward God, and numbness during her son's death.

You will cry, laugh and educated you through her information from Congress to the layperson. She offers places that will help you to cope with your loss, help the fight against AIDS and most of all let you know that without proper precautions ANYONE is susceptible to AIDS/HIV. Her love toward humanity is obvious, her Faith is evident, and her spirit is strong.

I would recommend this book to everyone. In my own life, I will buy this book and use it as a tool to promote abstinence in my young adult children, a precautionary tool for people in my age group who are rapidly on the incline of contracting the disease from lack of proper awareness and education.

My hat is off to Joan for allowing us to walk in her shoes if only from afar.

The Romance of Life

"Bella" was one of last year's indie film surprises, winning over audiences with its warmth, emotion, and deceptively simple snapshots of family, pregnancy, grief, and redemption. My wife and I loved the movie, shared it with our teen daughters, and told others about it.

When I heard the movie was being turned into a short novel, I was skeptical. Would it capture the same feelings conveyed in the actors' faces and in the beautiful script? When I heard Lisa Samson was the one doing the novelization, my worries were laid to rest. This lady can write--and she writes from the heart.

"Bella" is a wonderful book, bringing back to mind all the nuances of the film, while providing deeper backstory and motivation. With turns of a phrase, Samson adds new dimension to an already touching story. This can be read before seeing the film or after. Either way, it's sure to be enjoyed by those who like the romance of life in the midst of all its messiness.

In New York, Jose was once a famous Mexican soccer player, but since the tragic accident four years ago he is not the same person. His career and his social life died along with another person, whom he visits at the cemetery all the time. That is when he is not cooking at older brother Robert's restaurant El Callejon.

Nina is a waitress at the restaurant. She and the boy next door law school student Ryan exchanged emails that led to drinks and action; now one week after a lonely twenty-fifth birthday, she spends time throwing up. Her life besides being pregnant is cheap videos and cheaper take-out.

Nina plans to get rid of the baby; Jose wants to help her anyway he can except support an abortion. Can these two lost souls help each other; Jose is determined that this is God's test of him while Nina remains in denial except for morning sickness.

This is a well written novelization of the 2007 film. The story line is an entertaining contemporary drama starring two wounded warriors struggling with life. The support cast is powerful as the audience obtains a close look at a Mexican-American family. Fans of inspirational tales will appreciate BELLA as each of the lead couple sees the unborn in a different light; redemption or damnation.

Jose, a famous soccer player, has been burned. At the peak of his career, a tragic accident has left him with deep scars. But this tragedy has also brought him back to God. Now a recluse, he battles his demons and works in his brother's store as a cook

Soon an opportunity to partially right the wrongs he has committed is presented to him-and Jose must decide to seize it. Nina cannot believe that she has been careless enough to get pregnant without being married. A waitress at the same restaurant that Jose cooks at, she turns to him for help. Can Jose convince her to do the right thing?

Bella is a beautiful story of love and hope and about finding beauty in the ashes of sorrow. It follows the lives of two broken souls. I really enjoyed this novelization. I especially enjoyed the characterization of Jose's family - a true Mexican family, with the family dinners, and the laughs.

At times it is a struggle to keep track of the names and dates, particularly when more than one person has the same name. Ample footnotes help guide the reader. More than a novel, this book is a historical depiction of important and relevant events.

This adaptation from the original screenplay of Bella was excellent. I actually like the detail in the book better than the movie...it explained much more and the ending much clearer.

I am a big fan of Lisa Samson's novels and I feel that she did a great job of capture the essence of the screenplay, yet adding her own touch to it.

Even if you watch the DVD, you should read the book. In fact, I feel you should read the book first then watch the DVD.
This is a book that will make you think and affect your life.

I am 45 years old, and I have six children, and in one week I have already been using the book to counsel my college aged children about God's plan for their lives. It has hit me hard, and I was weeping through many pages as I experienced the Spirit of God healing my heart. Thank you Paula for clearing up so many murky places in my life. I was getting there, but you gave me a hand up out of the mirey clay. Paula is a very wise lady, and the wisdom of God was with her when she wrote this book. Today I bought 10 more copies to give to my friends. I have also given away many copies of her book, Sex and the Soul of a women.

I loved Paula Rinehart's first book and held a ladies bible study with it. It was wonderful - everyone walked away blessed. I couldn't imagine a second book being even better, but it is! This is a spiritually significant book for any woman and I highly recommend it as part of every Christian woman's spiritual walk. It helped to see those areas I had yet to give to God. Once I was able to recognize what they were, my relationship with God took a brand new turn - a dynamically freeing turn. Paula does indeed take us to a place that is better than our dreams with this book. Thank you Paula.

My husband and I are reading through this book together and find the writing to be clear, accurate, encouraging and motivating. The many real life examples that Paula includes bring personal experiences to mind and the principles presented are helpful in 'making sense' of life's challenges. We plan to give copies of this book to many friends because we feel it will give them hope for their hard situations.

In this day and age when one is searching for books to discover who I am, all I ever come acrossed are books with New Age agendas. However, "Better Than My Dreams" is exactly the kind of book that I was looking for in learning who I really am and what the second season of my life holds. I am not a teen, I am almost 53 years old and searching for a life worthy of Christ. I highly recommend this book for any woman who wants to experience a full life in Christ! I will read this book again and again. Good journaling prompt in this book or Bible study questions to ponder.

Earth Day Founder Recommends State of Environment Speech
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2003-02-21
Earth Day founder Gaylord Nelson holds no punches in this book. He brings the question of the ability of the planet to sustain today's consumption-driven American lifestyle into clear focus in "Beyond Earth Day". His report card on the planet is dire but believable.

The book provides a strong case that more dire consequences are up ahead for all of us, unless the current political leadership in Washington abandons its "business as usual" mentality regarding the environment and begins to recognize the urgency and gravity of the situation we are getting into with regard to air, water, land and climate.

"It is time for the president and Congress to reach an agreement that sustainability is the challenge of our time and design a plan of action for the future... There is no room, nor time, for partisanship. The president and Congress should face this issue in a unified and cooperative way and should persist until we reach the goal", laments Nelson.

Nelson recommends that the president of the United States deliver a "State of the Environment" speech to the American public and the world which outlines environmental challenges meriting the nation and the world's immediate attention, and the challenges that lay on the horizon. Such an address, Nelson says, is what is needed "to start public dialogue on the serious environmental problems facing the country and world today". People everywhere need to realize that maintaining the environmental sustainability of the planet is the most important responsibility we all have, because all life on Earth is interrelated, and because our economy is inherently dependent on the environment's "underlying resource base of forests, water, air, soil, and minerals".

"Beyond Earth Day" gives an amazingly thorough look at the state of our planet, then and now. Discussions of issues are well-referenced and Gaylord Nelson courageously presents honest solutions to problems that many people take pains to ignore. He offers history, wisdom, and guidance in an age when "environment" is an important issue to Americans, yet many are unaware of the seriousness of the issues our water, air, soils and biodiversity face. An America united by the knowledge offered by Senator Nelson has the capability to change the course of catastrophic events involving the very elements needed for life. Share the intelligence of this important book with everyone you know.

Any one who can read should read this book!!

This book covers what should be the most important Issue to all people in the human-rat race. It's an attempt to make people realize how fast we are using up our natural resourses.
I can only hope that this book makes it to the top 10 best sellers list, so that it gets read by a large segment of the population. It's a vary important message and it's easy to read in a short amount of time, and once you read it it would be wise to give it to a friend and have them read it and pass it on to someone else.
Why can't an American president stand up, and run on smaller population and less consumption? Humans will gain less and less with over-population.
