ARE YOU A HAPPY PERSON, IF NOT READ THIS BOOKReview Date: 2000-07-18
I think we need to do a self inspection about our attitudes and see if we can make some adjustments.
This book tells about how to change your way of thinking about attitudes. Like the title suggests "THE BE HAPPY ATTITUDES", i think we can and should change our attitude about life. Life is beautiful thing and i think we should be happy to be alive.
I WOULD LIKE TO STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.
Another Powerful WorkReview Date: 2004-04-30
In reading Dr. Schuller's works, including this one, there is a realization that here is a man who is writing from first hand experience. He so powerfully teaches on forgiveness that you just know only a person who has mastered that challenge can so eloquently address the issue. This is an encouraging look at the Beatitudes. One additional point worth pondering is that Dr. Schuller believes Jesus gave them as a logical progression. He believes that one is a stepping stone to the next one.

Learn to be a Woman of GraceReview Date: 2007-04-29
Helpful for both new beginners in Bible study as well as those who have had more experience, and useful for both individual as well as group study.
The format keeps the individual/group interested, it is a good combination of looking up Bible verses and reading well-chosen quotes/commentary selections. Also, it is not simply a book for amassing more knowledge, but you are challenged to apply what you are learning.
If you want to learn more about God's grace and how His grace helps you to become a woman of grace, this is the book/Bible study for you!

Maw's memories of KingReview Date: 2005-08-31
She reflected back on her journal and realized the need for a book of this nature. Many people reject or ignore the facts of AIDS. She thought her personal journal might be helpful to someone else facing a similar battle with AIDS. She shares her thought process during a trying time and offers ways for readers to reach out. It took alot of courage to have her journal published. King is smiling.
Love you,
Ivory
An email received from a friend of people living and dieing with HIV/AIDS! Review Date: 2005-08-12
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
I wish you all the best and success with your book and any future endeavours.
I would however, like to personally commend you on your accomplishment. Although there is no way I could even imagine what the loss of a child is like, I can relate to the loss of someone so cherished. Knowing there are amazing people such as you, stepping forward with such a determined voice, is what helps remind people the fight against HIV/AIDS is far from over. I'm certain King would be proud of you and would cherish your overwhelming love and devotion to him.
Sincerely,
Douglas
One Reader at a TimeReview Date: 2005-07-04
Written by: Joan Thomas Nelson
"Before, During and After Aids: A Mother's Love and Memories," is a topic that is dear to my heart. My cousin passed away in her late twenties, of HIV/AIDS. She was a remarkable young woman, with two young children. I watched her as she went from the perfect picture of health, to the frailty that accompanies this disease.
Joan Thomas Nelson boldly discusses the issues that homosexual people are sadly faced with. They are ridiculed, shunned, rejected, taunted and isolated, simply because of their sexual orientation. Their families also face shame, a myriad of questions as to their loved ones' illness or early passing, whispered conversations as they pass those aware of the individuals illness or death etc. It's as if those infected with HIV/AIDS, and their family members, are counted as dead, long before they die. I say this because those who hand out these harsh sentences of judgment upon those inflicted with HIV/AIDS, act as though the individual has no emotions and cannot be affected by their disturbing callousness, and plain disregard for them.
There are the cold-hearted comments made in regards to homosexual individuals, which are made by our lawmakers. There are the hypocritical comments and actions of those who profess to love God and then, in the same breath, condemn those living with the HIV/AIDS virus. And, sadly, there are those parents who choose to disown or suddenly stop loving their children because they are homosexual.
Joan Thomas Nelson shares misconceptions and myths about HIV/AIDS, as well as ideas for the prevention of it. She shares the different facets of grieving, along with the sweet memories of her son. I commend Joan Thomas Nelson on her courage and bravery to step forward and write on this topic. We, as a society, wonder why there are such high levels of hate crimes in our communities. We needn't wonder, when it is much like the rolling stone that collects moss. If our government officials are speaking this way of those afflicted with HIV/AIDS, why would civilians act or speak any differently?
Joan Thomas Nelson eloquently and truthfully educates her readers on all aspects concerning the HIV/AIDS illness. She teaches us, through her gentle and humble spirit, what it means to genuinely care for those that are afflicted with it. She calls for an accountability of those in the professional realm to stand up and help reframe the thinking of our society, as a whole. She challenges us, as a reader, to help play a part in reconstructing our society's viewpoint on this horrendous illness, and those tragically affected by it -- one reader at a time.
I urge each reader to consider bringing this book to the attention of the Department of Education, within their community, in the hopes of having a copy of this book on the shelves of local high schools. In my opinion, it should be a required read in every high school across the country. We have much to learn on this topic, and Joan Thomas Nelson is obviously willing and quite capable, to educate us.

Author of: Journey to the Magical Places of the Heart
A must read for all.Review Date: 2005-06-06
Joan Thomas Nelson educates through the life of a mother, caregiver, son, family and friends.
She shares the heart wrenching experience of the disease AIDS/HIV, thought patterns of a society with preconceived notions that this is a homosexual disease. I never have realized how ignorant people where during the 80's and 90's about the disease.
She writes a Mother's recollection so vividly from his birth until his spirit wisps toward the heavens. A caregiver's guide to surviving AIDS because that is what this book is, coping, loving and living through HIV and its horrendous affects on the human body.
King was an extraordinary man full of vigor accepting people without judgment, prejudice, or umbrage. He had every right to become ill tempered, but never showed this toward his friends or family. His live and let live attitude should be a blessing toward anyone who reads this engrossing account of his life.
Nelson gives her entire soul to this project of preservation of what a family endures; a patient endures from beginning until the end. She allows you to travel through her grieving process, anger toward God, and numbness during her son's death.
You will cry, laugh and educated you through her information from Congress to the layperson. She offers places that will help you to cope with your loss, help the fight against AIDS and most of all let you know that without proper precautions ANYONE is susceptible to AIDS/HIV. Her love toward humanity is obvious, her Faith is evident, and her spirit is strong.
I would recommend this book to everyone. In my own life, I will buy this book and use it as a tool to promote abstinence in my young adult children, a precautionary tool for people in my age group who are rapidly on the incline of contracting the disease from lack of proper awareness and education.
My hat is off to Joan for allowing us to walk in her shoes if only from afar.

The Romance of LifeReview Date: 2008-08-31
When I heard the movie was being turned into a short novel, I was skeptical. Would it capture the same feelings conveyed in the actors' faces and in the beautiful script? When I heard Lisa Samson was the one doing the novelization, my worries were laid to rest. This lady can write--and she writes from the heart.
"Bella" is a wonderful book, bringing back to mind all the nuances of the film, while providing deeper backstory and motivation. With turns of a phrase, Samson adds new dimension to an already touching story. This can be read before seeing the film or after. Either way, it's sure to be enjoyed by those who like the romance of life in the midst of all its messiness.
well written novelization of the 2007 filmReview Date: 2008-06-03
Nina is a waitress at the restaurant. She and the boy next door law school student Ryan exchanged emails that led to drinks and action; now one week after a lonely twenty-fifth birthday, she spends time throwing up. Her life besides being pregnant is cheap videos and cheaper take-out.
Nina plans to get rid of the baby; Jose wants to help her anyway he can except support an abortion. Can these two lost souls help each other; Jose is determined that this is God's test of him while Nina remains in denial except for morning sickness.
This is a well written novelization of the 2007 film. The story line is an entertaining contemporary drama starring two wounded warriors struggling with life. The support cast is powerful as the audience obtains a close look at a Mexican-American family. Fans of inspirational tales will appreciate BELLA as each of the lead couple sees the unborn in a different light; redemption or damnation.

Quality you count on from Lisa SamsonReview Date: 2008-05-21
Soon an opportunity to partially right the wrongs he has committed is presented to him-and Jose must decide to seize it. Nina cannot believe that she has been careless enough to get pregnant without being married. A waitress at the same restaurant that Jose cooks at, she turns to him for help. Can Jose convince her to do the right thing?
Bella is a beautiful story of love and hope and about finding beauty in the ashes of sorrow. It follows the lives of two broken souls. I really enjoyed this novelization. I especially enjoyed the characterization of Jose's family - a true Mexican family, with the family dinners, and the laughs.
At times it is a struggle to keep track of the names and dates, particularly when more than one person has the same name. Ample footnotes help guide the reader. More than a novel, this book is a historical depiction of important and relevant events.
Armchair Interviews says: Lisa Samson has done a wonderful job in writing this touching novel
Great StoryReview Date: 2008-05-11
I am a big fan of Lisa Samson's novels and I feel that she did a great job of capture the essence of the screenplay, yet adding her own touch to it.
Even if you watch the DVD, you should read the book. In fact, I feel you should read the book first then watch the DVD.
This is a book that will make you think and affect your life.

Earth Day Founder Recommends State of Environment SpeechReview Date: 2003-02-21
The book provides a strong case that more dire consequences are up ahead for all of us, unless the current political leadership in Washington abandons its "business as usual" mentality regarding the environment and begins to recognize the urgency and gravity of the situation we are getting into with regard to air, water, land and climate.
"It is time for the president and Congress to reach an agreement that sustainability is the challenge of our time and design a plan of action for the future... There is no room, nor time, for partisanship. The president and Congress should face this issue in a unified and cooperative way and should persist until we reach the goal", laments Nelson.
Nelson recommends that the president of the United States deliver a "State of the Environment" speech to the American public and the world which outlines environmental challenges meriting the nation and the world's immediate attention, and the challenges that lay on the horizon. Such an address, Nelson says, is what is needed "to start public dialogue on the serious environmental problems facing the country and world today". People everywhere need to realize that maintaining the environmental sustainability of the planet is the most important responsibility we all have, because all life on Earth is interrelated, and because our economy is inherently dependent on the environment's "underlying resource base of forests, water, air, soil, and minerals".

Any one who can read should read this book!!Review Date: 2003-04-29
I can only hope that this book makes it to the top 10 best sellers list, so that it gets read by a large segment of the population. It's a vary important message and it's easy to read in a short amount of time, and once you read it it would be wise to give it to a friend and have them read it and pass it on to someone else.
Why can't an American president stand up, and run on smaller population and less consumption? Humans will gain less and less with over-population.
