The story of Oral Roberts is a great one. He was a great man of God and he has never had a public moral failure. Not everyone is happy with how he handles money...but he is honest and open with what he does.

His book shows in great detail what he went through in life and how God used him. That allows people to understand what humble beginnings many great men of God have. I recomend with no reservation.

This biography on the life and ministry of Oral Roberts is both compelling and inspiring. From his birth to present day, the book covers the evangelists most endearing moments as father and husband, as well as his role as the famous evangelist who touched millions of lives through his healing ministry. After overcoming poverty and a brush with death, Oral Roberts made a name for himself as a truly amazing figure in American history and one of the most popular and charasmatic religious figures of his time. With passion and integrity, "Expect a Miracle", is a book that inspires the soul and will win your heart.

"Son, I am going to heal you and you are to take my healing power to your generation. You are to build Me a University and build it on My authority and the Holy Spirit".

This was the Word of the Lord to Oral Roberts, a young man of seventeen, dying of Tuberculosis. Oral Robert's encounter with God saw the birth of a healing ministry, reaching thousands of people through Evangelistic Rallies , Radio, Television and the printed page.

As you read about this man's life, you'll be inspired, you'll rejoice, you'll weep. It's a life marked by faith, courage and tragedy.

Born in humble beginnings, God raised him to prominence through open doors and Divine appointments, including meetings with a number of U.S.Presidents. Despite this, Oral Robert's family suffered two fatalities with the death of his daughter and son-in-law in a plane crash and a son's suicide.

Throughout all this, you'll see that Oral Roberts is a man who has remained humble and with his integrity intact.

The book tells about the establishment of Oral Roberts University in 1965, and the merging of Prayer and Medicine with the opening of the Medical School in 1978.

Overall, this book is a testimony to what God can and will do with a life that is solely surrendered to Him.

An important historical church document...

The life and ministry of Oral Roberts is one of the most influencial and controversial of any minister of the 20th century. Although one might dismiss Oral Roberts, relegating him to the catagory of many other TV Evangelists who fell by the wayside in sins, hype, and irrelevance, it must be said of Oral Roberts that he, unlike the overwhelming majority of his time, finished the race. He stayed clean. He has left behind a legacy of power, innovation, and endless possibilities for the future of all of his spiritual children.

It was Oral Roberts that pioneered the use of TV as a means of evangelism. It was Oral Roberts that modernized the church's concept of its relationship to God as healer, provider, and, answerer of prayers based upon His Word. More than any other minister of the last century, Oral Roberts Evangelized the world with the truth most Christians rejected and denied completely: 3John:2 "Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." I don't think we fully appreciate just how ground breaking this revelation was in the 50's and early 60's. His slogan "something good is going to happen to you" was lambasted by religious pharisees. Their contention was the thought was "too presumptuous" and was liable to "get the people's hopes up too high."

"Expect a Miracle" is a fair representation of Brother Roberts' life and ministry overall. However, I do wish he would have been more direct and addressed some of the more troubling aspects of his ministry. Although he lightly addressed the matter, I would have liked to have seen him flat out apologize and repent for the 8 million dollar fiasco in the 80's. I have no doubt that God may very well have told him his assignment on earth would end if he failed to upkeep his medical school, but Brother Roberts should have addressed the fact that his manner of appealing on TV saying, "won't you spare my life," to get his "partners" to give him 8 million dollars was extreme and is still an embarassment for his spiritual children. Subsequently, such incidents are a blemish on his legacy, and in many ways the body of Christ's, which I believe could have been repaired had he not avoided the issue in the years that have passed since then. This autobiography was a great opportunity to do just that, but he unfortunately passed.

Every spirit filled believer should consider this book required reading. Let history show. Oral Roberts is a rare gem in church history. He paved the way for modern Spirit-filled ministers like no other in his time. He truly was "God's man for this hour!"

God bless you, Brother Roberts! And thank you for the abundant spiritual inheritance you have left us!

The Best Youth-Oriented Bible That I Have Found
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-03
My wife and I minister to the young male and female inmates at a local Youth Detention Center (YDC). These kids are in for everything from armed robbery to sex crimes. So, needless to say, a very different type of witnessing tool was necessary for this ministry.

I had read and researched a lot of Bibles, and I finally settled on this one as my main witnessing tool. Here is why:

While ministering to these kids, I have found that these youngsters truly ARE the visual generation, and NOTHING turns them off faster than trying to read (and DECIPHER) a standard 2-column or 4-column dull-looking, boring-looking, black-on-white print Bible.

BUT, with this Bible, the colors and the pictures and the generally edgy feel of the book as a whole really catches their eyes and makes them WANT to dig in and start reading. Every Bible on this earth is of no value if you cannot get them to OPEN it and READ it!

Having worked with these youth, I have found that most of them may be 15 - 16 years old, but they read at 11 - 12 year old level! For this reason, I always stress to the kids that, while this Bible is written to the younger mind, it does NOT talk DOWN to them in any way shape, or form! This, too, is critical in ministering to them, as they will reject anything that smacks of being too authoritarian to them. It is that very rebellion against any kind of authority that landed them in the YDC in the first place!

Because of this book, we have not only had the young inmates come to Christ, but we have also had members of the YDC STAFF come to Christ as well! What a Blessing this has been!

For all these reasons, I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

This is a lovely Bible. The colorful graphics, page layouts, and inserts are appealing to the younger age groups (adults too) and really draw the reader in. The language is clear, easy to read, and easy to follow especially if you are familiar with the traditional KJV. I took one look through it at my local Borders and just had to take it home with me. If you have children, this would make an especially nice gift Bible (I wish I had received one like this back then). I would also recommend this Bible to youth group leaders or youth Bible study groups. As a former youth group leader, this would have been my Bible of choice. The only thing I would recommend to the publisher, if a second edition comes out, is to include maps. I make constant reference to them when I read, and it would be a good way to start teaching youth the Biblical geography we hear so much about in the news today. Otherwise, I really like this Bible. Buy it and enjoy.

Great For Young Adults Who Want To Fully Get Into God's Word

The NJKV Extreme Bible is the best Bible that I've seen for young adults between the ages of 18-30 who want to fully get into the Word of God.

I'm a youth leader at my church and I find this Bible to be extremely useful for me to use when I am ministering to young people. I've also found that this particular Bible has helped me to get closer to God.

The NJKV version is very easy to understand and there are special features in this Bible that help you to get as deep inside the Bible as you can.

People profiles give you specific information about specific people who stood a head above the rest to change their world.

What's It Mean? notes give you yte-sized information on specific words or phrases you read about that might not be as obvious today as they were in the culture of Bible times.

There are also other notes that point out promises that God makes in the Bible and ways that He calls us to live 'On The Edge' through faith that pushes us to trust God in the extreme.

There is also a Quick Reference Index which is the place to turn when you need God's answers to your questions. Look up your question by topic in the front of the Bible, then find the answer at the Bible book, chapter, verse location listed. The questions are also repeated in the Bible text next to their answer.

There are handy Reading Plans in the back of the Extreme Bible. These plans give you suggestions for what to read every day to cover the Bible in a year. However, there are also other Reading Plans as well, such as:

30 Days With Jesus - if you have ever asked yourself, 'I wonder what Jesus would do?', then you can find out by following this reading plan, by taking a month to read the story of Jesus.

60 Days With Paul - After you've read 30 Days With Jesus, it is a really good idea to learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus by spending '60 Days With Paul'.

90-Day Overview Of The Bible - This plan takes you through the major events of the Bible without you reading the entire book.

Finally, there is also an 'Extreme Index' which makes it easy to find what you're looking for! The most important contents in the notes and articles are arranged alphabetically by subject, which every topic you could imagine from Abuse through to Worship. Whatever your need is, this easy-to-use feature helps you zero in on the Biblical advice and insights you want, fast!

This is definitely not a Bible for the faint-hearted! Are you up for the challenge? If you are, then you should definitely purchase this Bible - you won't be disappointed!

A story of love, courage, and survival. Carrie McDonnall was the only survivor of five in March, 2004, in Iraq although shattered with 22 bullet wounds and untold amounts of shrapnel. She tells the story of the love and loss of her husband David. Married less than a year and risking their lives to help the citizens of Iraq in their suffering, Carrie, David and three other American Missionaries were surrounded in a busy city and shop at point blank range. It was a miracle Carrie survived and this is truly an inspiring, exciting and heartwarming story.

A love story and a call to serve Christ

Review Date: 2005-09-30
An international relief worker and missionary since 1999, Carrie McDonnall fell in love with the Middle East and married a man with the same passion, David, in 2002. On March 15, 2004, the couple, along with three other aid workers, spent the day surveying the needs at a refugee camp in northern Iraq. On their way back into the safe zone in Kurdish-held territory, militants ambushed their truck and Carrie would be the only one to survive.

FACING TERROR, written by Carrie with help from popular author Kristin Billerbeck, recounts the harrowing events of the day that would forever change her life. But far from being a cautionary tale, FACING TERROR is a call to serve Christ wherever one lives and is, at its core, a love story --- a story of love between a man and a woman, and a story of the love those two people shared for the Arab world.

David and Carrie met in Bethlehem on New Year's Day 2000. Despite the location, it was a rather inauspicious start to their romance. Introduced by fellow "journeymen," Carrie spent the time mistakenly calling David "Nathan" and thought little about him when the holiday was over. But when they were re-introduced several months later at a sports camp for local youth, she took more notice. "There was a spark within him that just lit up the dark sky. He was genuinely warm and friendly, he was a wonderful storyteller, and he was funny. I hoped this wasn't the last time we'd met, and although I can't say my romantic pursuits were obvious, I didn't want this man just to walk out of my life," she writes.

During that stage of their ministries, Carrie was living out of a converted shipping container in Israel's West Bank and David was traveling all over Africa and the Middle East. They exchanged emails and the relationship deepened through what would become sometimes-daily missives. At the same time, both had a deepening sense of love for and calling to the Muslim people of the Middle East. "David asked what I would do after I finished my term of service in Israel. I told him that I would return home to attend seminary and then come back to the region to work among Arab-speaking Muslims. He then asked how I came to that decision. I explained that it was nothing I had decided --- the Lord had just put a passion for these people within me and anything different would mean being disobedient to Him."

She continues, "He seemed surprised to find a girl who wanted to live in such a strict culture and shared with me the experiences he had seen the girls on his team go through. David then told me of his love for Sudan and some of his adventures. He said that he too felt called back to this area, but didn't know exactly where --- just that it was with Arab-speaking Muslims."

The couple spent two years getting to know each other, and FACING TERROR follows what each of them were doing in their individual ministries as they grew closer and closer to one another. Of primary concern for both of them was that their desire for each other not usurp the call each of them felt to mission work, so they took their time before making the decision to marry. Once they did, in Texas, the couple put their energies into getting back onto the mission field, and the book provides an engrossing account of the days that lead up to March 15, 2004.

Carrie is inspirational; there's no two ways about it. On top of losing her husband and three dear friends, her own body was gravely injured in the attack and she's had to undergo multiple surgeries to restore all that can be restored. And yet, there is a glow in her face, in her eyes, that reflects a passion for Christ that pain and suffering can't diminish. I saw it when I met her in person last summer, and I can see it in the pages of her book.

"I live my life without David, but am grateful for the time I had with him," she writes. "The world is not our place of rest; it is a time to work and follow hard after Jesus. When we get home, we can rest. But for now, God is calling his children to share the gospel of the cross, the power of our Holy Father; it's time we obediently follow Him. May we all live our lives in a manner worthy of the calling we have received in Christ Jesus. May we live lives we will never regret." Amen.

This book gives a very heartwarming and interesting insight to what people that happen to be missionaries have seen and experienced in a world most of us will never have an opportunity to visit. All we hear is the media's version of what is going on in third world countries. This book gives us an everyday feel for what is truly going on and the happiness and goodness that occurs as well. My heart goes out to Carrie and her and David's family and the trauma and tradgedy that she has experienced and will continue to experience for a very long time. Thank you for sharing your world with us and may God continue to bless you!

Riveting, moving, and a must read for all.

This moving book allows the reader to experience the lives of devoted missionaries, their lives in the Middle East, and their love of the Arab Muslims that eventually cost Carrie McDonnall her health and the life of her husband and 3 other fellow workers.
It is well written and riveting. I've already given a copy to three people and have to keep replenishing my own copy.
I appreciate Carrie's bold challenge to the church today to share the Gospel message and have bold love for others.
The song the LORD gave her during recovery and the vision of Jesus and His call was especially inspiring and challenging.

As one who has lived many years in seven different Middle Eastern countries (including Jordan and Lebanon) and who is a Christian but not a missionary, I can greatly recommend Carrie's book for more than its wonderful love story between Carrie and David. Her descriptions of life in that area are real. By that I mean she describes wonderfully and accurately experiences many of us have lived. Her descriptions are an excellent way to get a "feel" for that part of the world that one cannot get from the general media and current events. I found myself nodding in recognition continually and wanting to run out for more books to send to friends, saying "This is what I have been trying to tell you for so many years!"
I too have met her briefly and heard her speak. My friends in Jordan knew her and David well. The greater love story to hear is her love for Christ and her willingness to be used for His purposes. I will watch with interest to see what else He has for this remarkable young woman.

It's has always been my hope that parents start building a strong understanding of theological truths in the lives of their children. This book is a great tool to do just that! I do believe that every home which owns and uses this book would benefit. An additional note: Although this book is targeted for the younger elementary age group, it can also be used with new believers who need to get acquainted with the basics. In this post-Christian era we live in, it's amazing how many adults don't know any of the content found in this childrens book.

So many Christian children get lost beyond the "Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins" line they hear over and over again as young children, but then they never go deeper into their Christian faith than that.

In this book, MacArthur does an excellent job of laying out the foundations of our Christian faith. As a parent -- and especially as a father -- I try to be diligent in presenting the Christian faith to my three children. This devotional is an excellent resource in explaining to our children what we believe in as Christians and why we believe it.

If you are a parent, or even a Sunday School or Children's Church teacher, who wants to explain the foundational principles of the Christian faith to children, this is the book you want!

Teach Your Children What They Need to Know

Catechism.

It's a word that many evangelicals don't even know the meaning of, let alone practice with their children.

Consequently, a whole generation of young people in Christian homes are growing up without a whole-orbed understanding of what God has spoken to His people.

Don't just assume that your children will somehow pick up everything they need to know about Christianity: John MacArthur has given us a valuable resource to help us teach our children simply but systematically the fundamentals of the faith.

In about eighty devotions subdivided into sections on God, Creation, Sin, the Bible, Jesus, Salvation, Worship, Prayer, Church, Forgiveness, Evangelism, & Heaven, Dr. Macarthur covers what every young person needs to know. Each devotion begins with a question, like "What should we do when we don't understand God?" A paragraph-sized answer with Scripture verses, a word scramble, a short prayer, and a suggested activity explain what the Bible says.

Well written, this book can be used as a personal devotion by a young reader or as the basis for family devotions, as I have used the book for years. Highly recommended.

My daughter got this book as a gift for Christmas. It was the best thing she received! A child has such a hard time understanding God, and what he means to our lives. This book explained so much to her. As she progressed through it, I could see the changes in her both mental and emotional. Some of the best chapters and segments were: Can we see God?; What does God want from us?; What should we do when we don't understand God?; Had God really lived forever?; Does God want me to be punished. The list could go on and on, but there is just not enough room to explain how much this will help your child. Some of the other chapters include wonderful segments and descriptions of: Creation, Sin, Bible History, Jesus, Salvation, Worship, Prayer, Church, Forgiveness, Evangelism, and Heaven.

Serving with Rick in the military and knowing him and Bea for many years it was a shock to see this man, my best buddy, going through this. Bea dealt with and then wrote about this whole ordeal in a very loving and understanding way that I am not sure I could do. In her book she covers all aspects of losing a loved one and how to be prepared for when the end comes. Her charts and forms simplify what otherwise could be a very confusing and complicated time. Thanks, Bea.

It gives very specific instructions on how to handle all of the services and legal paperwork that needs to be done. I most appreciated the humor and personal experience of this woman. This book is the best quilting/patchwork/appique book I have ever seen! As soon as I bought it I just had to start a project from it, and now I'm starting another one. I've looked through it a million times already, it's very inspiring! Beautiful colour photos, and clear instructions. Also has alot of tips on how you can change the overall look with different fabrics etc.

Jay Austin is a master used car salesman and knows every trick in the book when it comes to overselling and cheating customers. He has made a career out of deception and has even taught his employees the art of the deal. However, things begin to change when Jay buys a 1958 Triumph TR3A and begins to work on it. It seems the Triumph needs a new flywheel in order for the engine to run. Without the crucial part, the car is going nowhere.

As things begin to unravel in Jay's personal life he starts to wonder where it all went wrong. His relationship with his son is lacking at best. He and his wife Judy are expecting their second child, yet it seems the spark in their marriage has gone out. To top it all off, his dealership is going under and no amount of dishonest deals will be able to save it. As Jay steps back and looks closely at his life he realizes that like the Triumph, he too needs a major renovation inside. For far too long he has done things his way and has ended up nowhere. With determination in his gut and a new found faith in his heart, Jay decides once and for all to give all areas of his life fully to God. What happens next will forever change Jay and impact not only his family, but his community as well.

Eric Wilson and the Kendrick Brothers have teamed up once again to create an inspiring story that will resonate with readers long after the last line. Alex and Stephen Kendrick are best known for their movie Facing The Giants, a successful Christian film about a high school football team that decides to let God lead their season. Flywheel was the first movie they made, and just like with Facing The Giants, Eric Wilson was later brought on board to write the novelization. Something tells me Alex and Stephen couldn't be happier with this genius move.

Eric Wilson is certainly known more for his edgy suspenseful thrillers, but with Facing the Giants and Flywheel he has revealed another side to his writing that is every bit as enjoyable. Jay Austin is a flawed, yet endearing character that I was rooting for from page one. Many fathers will find themselves relating to the numerous struggles and spiritual triumphs he faces throughout the novel. Wilson treats us not only with strong characters, but a tight storyline that never loses steam or direction. We are beautifully reminded that God wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives: family, relationships, and even business. When we do truly live for Him, He will work in ways we could never have imagined.

It was recently announced that Eric Wilson will be writing the novel for the upcoming Kendrick Brothers film, Fireproof. No doubt this will be another amazing collaboration effort. Eric Wilson consistently churns out riveting fiction and finally more and more people are starting to notice. Very few writers have the ability to keep you glued to your seat while at the same time opening your eyes to spiritual truth in such an effective manor. There is no better time than now to discover this incredible writing talent. After the upcoming Jerusalem's Undead Trilogy many will be asking themselves why they've never read this guy before. Do yourself a favor and don't be late to the party.

Eric Wilson does it again!!! That's what the headline would read if someone wrote a newspaper article about this book. In a world where the person who has the most money, or sells the most cars (figuratively speaking) is the top dog in town this book is a breath of fresh air to those of us who try to do what Christ commands. We sometimes sit there and think did I do the right thing because everyone around us is looking at us as if we have two heads and Christ shouts out over the tumult YES YOU DID!!! with a look of complete adoration (not the worship kind, the reverent and devoted love kind) That's what God did for Jay Austin and that's what this book is sure to do for you, because it did it for me. The Kendrick brothers have an eye for great stories that touch the heart and Eric Wilson has the talent to bring those stories to life and make them jump off the page! Flywheel teaches us that until we're ready to open ourselves up to giving God complete control of everything we aren't gonna move an inch but better than that, once we give complete control we better strap in for the ride of our lives because he's going to do amazing things, and that God is going to defend his children, even if that defender comes in the shape of a feisty black women with attitude in one hand and an envelop beating you over head in the other.
Thanks again Eric (and the Kendrick brothers) for a great inspirational story that reminds us of what life is really supposed to be about.

This is the most heart warming book I have ever read, it truly shows us what all our Lord will give us if we only obey! It made me wonder all through the book, why we continue to cling to our own ways rather than to let go and let God! As all of us have experienced, we have all had a turning point in our lives, just make sure we give all the glory to our Lord and do it for Him and thru him. Thank you Eric for making me realize that I must be more obedient. God bless your writing and your family. I remain, a loyal reader. Laurel Cockrell

Eric Wilson has done it again by turning one of the Kendrick brothers movies into a novel. I havent seen the movie yet(but plan to as soon as possible) so I can't compare the two. This is such a great story and really causes you to deal with your faith in God and your actions in all situations. The story is about Jay Austin a used car salesman who does everthing he can to sell a car. This causes friction at home with his pregnant wife and son. He also has both personal and business financial problems to deal with. Jay buys a classic convertible car (a Triumph) to restore and at the same time he sees his faith in God start to be restored. The changes that he makes began to make great ripples in his life. A great story for all especially fans of "Facing the Giants." Eric Wilson adds back stories and additional storylines to the story giving it more depth.

When you talk about original these days, your average car salesman isn't too original, right? Especially one with integrity. So once again, based on the Kendrick Brothers film, "Flywheel," Eric Wilson dishes it out better than most. This might be a little on the decaf side of things, but that's ok, just don't mention the decaf part too loudly. This is a story of pride and humility, mixed with a little integrity, and the message couldn't be more clear. In The Bible, Jesus was more than clear about The Golden Rule!

What would you do to get what you want out of life? And if somebody questions you, is it really anyone else's business? Jay Austin is your modern day pimp. He simply poses as an honest man who wants to give you a great deal in an automobile. That's harsh, isn't it? But it's the truth, and his wife's sick of it! Is there a chance for change? The answer is yes, but will the results be that simple? Jay Austin has a lot more than he bargained for when he gave his business over to God. And in the long run, he has a lot to answer for after all these years. Who's going to fight for Jay Austin? This is a new step, and a new life and adventure in Christ Jesus. Jay Austin just may experience new beginnings.

Hey, when I get a new car, that sucker better be firing on ALL cylinders, or there will be a problem eventually. And as the novelist, Eric Wilson fires on all cylinders to get this message across. He shows us a great talent to tell such a simple story. Great work once again for Eric!

And in saying that, if you enjoy the book, please do check out the movie. Pretty awesome as well!

Excellent book for spiritual guidance in a relationship...Targeted primarily towards a married couple, but I use it with my boyfriend, of whom I plan to marry...I have never come across a better book, that represents working towards achieving the purity and sacredness of a relationship...Each page holds a short well written to the point devotional, and a biblical verse below....This book, although not expensive would be a treasured wedding gift for someone who appreciates the blessing of love...I am not clear on the Valentine's part of the title, the book is titled Forever in Love...

Very inspiring and relevant devotionals with accompanying bible verses relevant to every possible aspect and challenge that can arise in a relationship or marriage. It's a small-sized book, but it makes a great little gift for any couple that is getting married or is already married. My wife and I often refer to it to it when times get rough or to reinforce our love.

This beautiful book captures the soul of touch. In my work as a massage therapist with hospice and elderly patients, I return to it again and again. It's the book I show others who may be interested. But more than this; it deepens my practice with all clients; and in its resonance with
the very best of me, enriches all my relationships.

This is a simply amazing book. It is wise and very inspiring. The main message I took away was that you don't have to be a licensed CMT to give healing through the touch: just connect with the person to whom you are giving touch, and keep your heart open. It addresses the ever increasing elderly population's needs for touch, and offers real solutions for healing and service. I felt like I imbibed Ms. Nelson's many years of spiritual practice through the pages, and as a result felt healed by proxy. I am more confident in my skills as a healer as a result of this book ( I am a yoga teacher). I will apply what I have learned about touching with presence and openness to my work as well as my life. Plus, my husband is really loving the benefits of my reading this book already, as I practice on him. Thanks to the author. A much-needed book.

Dawn Nelson is not only a dedicated, loving care provider, teacher, and founder of COMPASSIONATE TOUCH®, but also an excellent writer. Her books and teaching affirm my own experience as a hospice massage therapist by emphasizing the "care" in caregiving. She encourages us to allow our hearts to open and be really present with the people we touch. By involving the heart in our work, we can make deeper connections and see beyond the person's illness or disability. I have learned so much from Dawn's writings and teaching. This book will inform, but more importantly, it will inspire.

I bought this book to learn how to use TOUCH in the appropriate way for the elderly/sick. Though it spends some time doing that, the majority of the book--which is large--focuses mostly on emotional and caring issues instead. I must say that I found this information comforting, informative and heartwarming. It reiterates things we know, but focuses more on the "heart" and caring for a person. It reminds us how important it is to spend time with an individual. "Individual" is defined as the person's essence so that we focus on the real person instead of on their physical disabilities. Though this wasn't why I bought the book, it enhanced a lot of things for me.

Having read romance novels for much of my adult life, it's hard for me to find anything that doesn't seem like the same tired old thing. Ms. Nelson's book, however, was refreshingly different, and just plain fun to read with all the elements of a good romance.

Jolie Marshall is living for the moment that she can divorce her husband Chris. He is abusive, cheats on her, and has stolen money from her mother and other investors in their software company. He has the money to pay them all back, but puts in in off shore accounts instead. Jolie is slowly putting together the money to pay off the debts and compiling evidence to use in her divorce case. She married Chris on the rebound, when her boyfriend since third grade, Jake, got cold feet on the subject of commitment. Her father had just died and she wanted more from the relationship, Jake decided to concentrate of his career with the Sheriff's Office instead. Angry, Jolie went on vacation by herself and came back with Chris, to her eternal regret. A support group of sorts, The Future Widows Club, asks her to be a member. They look forward to the death of their spouses. They arrange the funeral, pick out an outfit, and most importantly, buy a hat. The meetings once a week are a godsend for these women, being the only place where they can be open about the problems in their marriages. Unfortunately, shortly after Jolie really gets into the spirit of the FWC, her husband is murdered, and his penis cut off and missing. More unfortunately, Jake is the detective assigned to the case. She never fell out of love with him and he apparently feels the same way. In spite of an ironclad alibi, she really LOOKS guilty.

I loved this book!!! The members of the FWC are very vivid and funny. The author enabled you to really get into the story. You get annoyed at Jake, hate Chris, and feel sympathy for all the future widows. I will definitely be looking to read more books by this author.

In Moon Valley, Jolie Marshal regrets marrying charming SOB Chris who embezzled money from their company leaving friends and her mother potentially in the lurch. When she can pay back her "creditors", she will divorce Chris, who she married when vulnerable following the death of her father and rejection by her boyfriend Jake, who was not ready for a wife.

The Future Widows' Club invites Jolie to join their group. Finding solace, she agrees and begins following some of the rules like taking out life insurance on her spouse. However, someone was irate when they shot Chris in the heart and cut off his penis. Could it be Sheriff Dean who has pictures of his wife with Chris? Or Police Officer Jake who is livid that this worm hit Jolie, the woman he still loves and regrets he let down? Or perhaps the grieving widow who just took out insurance on the rat?

THE FUTURE WIDOWS' CLUB is a strange dark humorous romance with police procedural elements to add excitement to the question of who killed Chris. The story line initially appears to be one of an abused spouse but switches gear once the merry widows invite Jolie to join. Rhonda Nelson writes a strong satirical dark look at society that accepts plenty of abusive "values" under the label of protecting the family.

Jolie Marshall's husband Chris sure fooled her. He came along at just the right time when she was nursing a broken heart and conned her into her marrying him. Since then he's managed to steal most of her mother's life savings. She can't divorce him until she gets enough evidence of his adultery and other dirty dealings. Meanwhile, she's found an outlet to help her keep her sanity while she's waiting, The Future Widow's Club. The FWC is a place where she and other wives can come and plan for when they can finally be free. After all, why settle for half when you can have it all? But when Chris is murdered, her affiliation with the FWC may not be a good thing.

The detective on the case is Jake Malone, the man who broke Jolie's heart and sent her straight into Chris' arms. Jake knows he made a terrible mistake when he let Jolie go and he's suffered watching her in a horrible marriage. Now that Jolie is free again he wants a second chance. But as long as Jolie is a suspect in her husband's murder he is unable to become personally involved with her. Once she's cleared Jolie better watch out, because Jake is determined to correct his past mistakes and get Jolie back where she belongs, with him!

I couldn't stop laughing while reading The Future Widow's Club! From the moment Jake and Jolie share a scene together, the chemistry and emotion is obvious and I became thoroughly engrossed. Plus the mystery about who really killed Chris is extremely well done. I will be looking for more in future from Rhona Nelson who I foresee quickly becoming a must-read author. Humor, suspense, and a well-written love story: The Future Widow's Club has it all!
