Much has been written, let it simply be said this is the type of book you can pick up for ten minutes and learn something new and fascinating. The pop-outs and pull-out copies of historical documents is wonderful. I've stumbled on it at a retail outlet and have since bought several more as gifts. A good investment for all ages.

This is a wonderful source of material and has been most beneficial as a teaching tool for my middle school students as we study the Lewis and Clark journey to explore the Louisiana Purchase.
The pull outs are excellent and help students to really connect with Lewis and Clark as "real" people.
A wonderful addition to any educator's collection!

This is a very fun book to read. It has many pockets that contain maps, receipts, and letters that look and feel like the real artifacts. One gets the feeling of history looking through these things. It is appropriate for young people, and adults. It is not a book to read though for the "details" however. I highly recommend this book to school libraries or young people with an interest in Lewis and Clark history. For details of the expedition look at Undaunted Courage, and/or Moulton's book.

I purchased this book for my daughter after we visited Fort Clatsop, Oregon where The Lewis and Clark Expedition settled for the winter. My daughter is ten years old and absolutely loves the interative features of the book, such as the replicas of the maps and journal entries from the expedition. The book was such a hit for my daughter's birthday that my parent's ordered the book and a little girl at the party ordered one also.
The replica maps and writings are a little hard to read as the writing 100 years ago has evolved to what we have now. But helping your child interpret these readings makes this book a true family book.

Hard to believe--Only 200 years ago!

Keeping history in perspective is important. What is 200 years?I am creeping on to 70 and my father was born in 1891.So,it was only 85 years before my father was born that Lewis and Clark completed their journey.Another way to look at it is that Clark died in 1866 only 25 years before my father's birth. Not really all that long ago, when you think of all that has happened in that short time.
This is a very unique book, only 48 pages;but a real excellent effort.Scattered throughout the book are over a dozen packets containing authentic looking reproductions of maps, letters and other documents that were prepared along the trip. It's almost like handling museum documents. Also included are many excellent paintings of scenes along the journey as well as sketches, maps and photographs of important items used. The paper, printing and overall construction of the book is superior in every way.At the back of the book there is a wealth of source material covering, acknowledgements, credits, notes and transcriptions.
All in all,a first class book on the Lewis and Clark Journey that shaped America.

"Little Book Of Hot Rods" NOT Just For Kids

A couple of weeks ago, I received a press release about a new childrens' book called the "Little Book Of Hot Rods".

I've been a car guy just about all of my life, so I sent an e-mail to the author, Chad Lampert, to see if I could perhaps get a copy of this book to review.

Boy-o-boy, am I glad I did! This is a fantastic book of great color hot rod art, by a very talented but 'til now generally unknown artist and author.

There's every kind of awesome automobile in this book from classic street rods of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, to the hot cars of my youth in the 60s and 70s, all done in vibrant colors, with a humorous story line of sorts with each one.

My favorite is the page of "goats". From that, you might guess what that page is like, but you'll have to get the book to see for yourself.

This would be a great book for a dad to read to his "gearhead" son or daughter, but it's also a great book to thumb through and enjoy if you're a "gearhead" adult.

The suggested retail price of the book is $9.95, but it is available on Amazon.Com for less.

I definately recommend this book.

I've read way too many books on marriage, separation, divorce and healing now. I have my own mini-library of them, unfortunately. But this was one of the best books I read while trying to come to terms with the turn my life had taken. I definately could identify with each of these ladies stories, and yet it's a very uplifting book - at a time when I was at my lowest.

As I struggled to live through a divorce that I did not want I tried to find books that would comfort me and make me feel like I was not alone. This book did just that. It is a wonderful read and brings hope when you feel all hope is lost. I would recommend this to any woman who is going through a divorce, especially one that they do not want. These four women made me feel that I can survive this and one day learn to live, laugh and love again.

Very Helpful for the Divorcing Woman!

By the end of the book, I felt like I was one of the gang with Michelle, Connie, Rosalind and Carla. These women tell it like it is, with a sense of humor so desperately needed in a time of trouble and pain. Some of the sharing is so hilarious that I found myself nodding my head and wiping my eyes, from laughing so hard.

Being a Christian woman myself, I was unsure how to treat my soon to be ex-husband, what to do with the confused, sad and angry feelings that I felt after being "dumped" after 17 years. I also didn't know what to do with the new girlfriend. I found answers in this book. Perhaps the biggest enlightenment was the fact that the ex didn't walk away free and easy, that his conscience will trouble him from now on and that how he deals with his leaving our family is between him and God, and no longer my problem!

Amazingly, after identifying with these women and no longer feeling alone, I was able to process my feelings and move to forgiveness and even a bit of pity. (The girlfriend dumped him shortly after that - which did help.) I am employed after years of being a stay-at-home Mom, closer to God than I have been in a long time and feeling positive and free. Sometimes it takes time away to recognize the cloud you have lived under for years and that life is truly full of joy. This book helped turn my head around!

My personal experience is that now my ex wants to stop the divorce and reunite the family. I have had a clear message from the Holy Spirit that I am NOT to do this - at least at this time. (It would just continue to be more of the same thing.) So, from fighting the divorce initially, I am now the one who desires freedom and who allows Jesus to be my husband. I am no longer alone.

I would highly recommend this book.

Lasting success can come from as little as seven intentional decisions - and the author has spent several decades studying some of the success stories that have revolved around these decisions. Andy Andrews' Mastering the Seven Decisions That Determine Personal Success blends profiles of very successful people with exercises designed to help readers translate these successes into action plans. Chapters give plenty of examples of responsible thinking, gratitude, and more in this outstanding survey of life improvements.

Absolute must-read after The Traveler's Gift...

Review Date: 2008-03-25
A short while back, my boss lent me a copy of The Traveler's Gift by Andy Andrews. It was one of the best self-improvement books I've ever read, and the seven decisions that were woven into the story were incredibly powerful. Andrews has a follow-up to that book called Mastering the Seven Decisions That Determine Personal Success: An Owner's Manual to The Traveler's Gift. If you were taken by the power of The Traveler's Gift, Mastering is a must-read book that fleshes out the concepts and helps you to apply them in your own life.

Contents:
Introduction; The Responsible Decision; The Guided Decision; The Active Decision; The Certain Decision; The Joyful Decision; The Compassionate Decision; The Persistent Decision; Conclusions; Bibliography; About the Authors

Each chapter corresponds to one of the seven decisions from the original book. After a restatement of the key decision, Andrews goes into more explanation and detail about how that particular trait, that decision you need to make, plays out in your life. Interspersed throughout the chapter are activities to help you determine where you are at and what may need to change in order to get to where the decision can take you. Much of the activities at the start involve some level of journaling as you spend time thinking about your values and goals. Perhaps you've never even *thought* about your values and goals before! Being forced to put these things down on paper is a powerful way to start sorting through your life. As you progress through the decisions, many of these insights you discover become actions you take to incorporate these seven traits into your everyday life. I also enjoyed the end of each chapter, where Andrews shares a letter from some well-known person that illustrates how that particular decision has helped them get to where they are today.

What I most appreciate about The Traveler's Gift and Mastering the Seven Decisions is that the concepts are based on solid choices that are completely within your reach. There's no metaphysical mystery to it all. If you incorporate and personalize these things, such as taking responsibility, taking action, seeking wisdom, and choosing to be happy, you will separate yourself from the mass of people who live life feeling as if they have no input or direction. Granted, you have to work at it, but the results are worth it. Mastering the Seven Decisions should be the absolute next book you read after The Traveler's Gift. And if you're going to buy one, buy them both. The changes that lie in store will be dramatic.

And the DVD goes right along with everything Andy says.

I've always been an avid reader with varied interests. Each year, I've always tried to read at least a half dozen or so self improvement books, so over the last 30 years or so, I've taken in quite a bit of information from a variety of sources. About six months ago, however, I found (on the bargain shelf of a local store) something that looked quite interesting called The Traveler's Gift. It appeared to be some sort of self-improvement book told in fictional story form. A unique concept that intrigued me. I'm going to make a very conservative estimate that in the course of my life I've read well over 100 self-improvement books. Not one of them has affected my life the way The Traveler's Gift has.

I'm not going to say Andy Andrews is a much better writer than Napoleon Hill was, or any of the other contemporary writers in this genre, although he does write very well. Perhaps it was just the right message at the right time in my life, but whatever the reason, the book truly resonated with me and touched me in ways other books failed to do. It has led to a complete transformation of where my life is going.

After reading the book, I typed out the seven decisions and taped them on my bathroom mirror, where I have reflected upon them each morning since and they have served as a catalyst to set the day in motion. Reading this book, MASTERING THE SEVEN DECISIONS, was a no-brainer. I ordered a copy as soon as I found out it was available.

All I can say about this is, it is an extraordinary companion to doing exactly what the title suggests, mastering the seven decisions. Here, Andrews takes the reader to the next level and what we have is somewhat of an amalgamation. It is mostly Traveler's Gift, with a few parts The Lost Choice, a healthy dose of Andrew's DVD, "The Seven Decisions", even a few letters from Andrews' early Storms of Perfection books, and a mixture of new material that will enhance even further, the understanding and application of the 7 decisions.

Self-improvement books are just that; they help us to become better businessmen and women, better husbands and wives, better leaders, better people. Few of them go beyond that and actually have what it takes to be life altering. This book does. Though it is not completely necessary, I highly recommend you read The Traveler's Gift first. It will greatly enhance what this book will do for you.

Change your attitude, change your life

I ended up buying quite a few copies of The Traveler's Gift: Seven Decisions that Determine Personal Success for friends because I liked it so much, I read it cover to cover twice without stopping. I really believe in what the author has to say. The seven decisions are an attitude that (akin to positive thinking) can change how you view the world and deal with the world, and ultimately, how the world deals with you.

The seven decisions are:
The Responsible Decision: The buck stops here. I accept responsibility for my past. I am responsible for my success. I will not let my history control my destiny.
The Guided Decision: I will seek wisdom.
The Active Decision: I am a person of action.
The Certain Decision: I have a decided heart. Criticism, condemnation, and complaint have no power over me.
The Joyful Decision: Today I will choose to be happy.
The Compassionate Decision: I will greet this day with a forgiving spirit.
The Persistent Decision: I will persist without exception.

The problem with motivational books is that they are inspiring to read, they make us feel great, but then we aren't really easily able to change our behavior. Reading is passive, changing attitude and behavior is active and more difficult. The author gives techniques to master these attitudes. Some are as simple (on the surface) as smiling when you really don't feel like it. But smiling is a muscular action, and it fires neurons in the brain. The brain, even though it may be simmering about the hellish traffic you are in, the disastrous breakfast you just ate and the unpleasant meeting with the boss you are heading for, is not so bright. The neurons firing in your brain saying "I'm smiling!" tell the brain "I'm happy!" and you find you are turning on the good music and relaxing rather than tensing up and formulating curses at the driver in front of you.

There are many more of these techniques in the book. If you love "The Traveler's Gift" and want to get more out of it, I'd suggest this companion volume. I think it would make great reading with a book club or church group or at home for dinnertime discussions. Sometimes your future can be positively changed by something as simple as a smile--or this book. Highly recommended.

I was thrilled to read about these adorable Christian raccoons hungering after God's heart. The raccoons' desire to learn more about The Maker, and to be like Him, leads right into their becoming "doers" of the Word, and not "hearers" only. This is such a wonderful example for children to learn from. These are Christ-like concepts written so that children will easily be able to understand. I have bought several copies of this book, as well as Methuselah's Heart, and joyfully give them to young parents to share with their youngsters. These books are truly inspired by the Holy Spirit. I would love to see more books by this gifted author.

We read this book outloud and were throughly intrigued throughout the story. It is a book that is hard to put down. It is a wonderful story of racoons personified, as those who would be new or seeking Christians. By example the story teaches us about the heart of God! A wonderfully well written book that has never gotten enough exposure. My children gave this book for a birthday gift to several friends and all enjoyed the book and often bought the sequel Methuselahs Heart. Which is also a good read about the heart of a christian practicing servanthood. It is good for all ages!

This shows the courage of raccoons that wanted friendship.

Methuselah's Gift is a wonderful story of a family of raccoons, who are learning about their creator through the wisedom of the eldest raccoon, Methuselah. Through daily experiences, adventures, and tragedies of the raccoon family, these little creatures learn much about the creator (God), forgiveness, and love.

This book touched my heart in a way that no other children's book has. It is a beautiful story, well-thought out by the author. Methuselah's Gift will make you laugh, wonder, and cry. But most of all, it will make you marvel at God's astounding love for you.

This book is just wonderful! I bought one, then decided to buy 4 more so that each of my children could have one. I started answering the simple questions and thought, "How am I remembering this?" It will be nice to send one to each of my children and keep one here for my husband. I think every mom should get this book, start writing and give to their children after they are adults.

A gift for mother's and their children

I was looking for an "All About Me" type of book for a friend who has advanced cancer. She is the mother of two, and I thought it would be a nice way for her to share some things with her children. When I read the reviews of the book, I decided to get 3. I got one for her, one for a friend expecting her second child, and one for my mother-in-law as a mother's day gift.

I think this is a wonderful gift for the women in your life, and eventually for their children, grandchildren, etc.

Only one complaint

I like this book overall. It is nice to write down stories from my life and know that one day my daughter will read it and know me better when she is ready and willing. However, my only complaint is that the book seems to have a lot of references to religion such as favorite scripture or church activities. For someone who is not at all religious, it feels awkward.

Excellent book for getting to know your mother more

I ordered this book for my mom, and recieved it today. I read all the questions, and it's really pretty neat. But now I'm contemplating whether or not to give it to her for no apparent reason or to give it to my sister for her birthday. I think I might have to order about 5 more of these so I can send them to all the extraordinary women in my life. :) I would definatly say this is a great buy as a gift!

this is a fantastic book. if you know a mother who is going through a rough time, this is a great way for her to share her life with her family and friends. i have terminal cancer, and have bought this book for several other women who are going through treatment. everyone thinks this is a great idea.

I only wish I had read this book 10 years ago when my son first started playing golf. As a Christian, this book would have given insights on how to teach about life as we played the game of golf. Now, this book can act as a great gift for someone who needs to learn more about the true meaning of life or for someone you would like to restore your relationship with. How can they refuse your request for a mulligan?
Great read; Great message; Don't pick it up unless you allow time to read the entire book. You will not be able to put it down!

It's amazing how much the gentleman-ly principals of golf apply to our day to day lives. If you're a golf fan, you'll love this book.
