Robert Whitlow's second in this series of two books, Life Support and Life Everlasting, grabbed this reader's attention in such a way that I completed the book in one day. The story was captivating and the spiritual message throughout the book was inspiring. I will be looking for more books like this one.

You can tell that the author is getting more comfortable in his writing style with Life Everlasting. Where Life Support was a very good but often not fluid work, the story of Life Everlasting wound its' way around intricate characters and a complex setting.
One would probably need to have read Life Support to appreciate the plot and some of the references in Life Everlasting, but it could be enjoyed on its' own.
Life Everlasting is a great book, and I am looking forward to more from Whitlow.

This book was truly awesome. In the first book Life Support, I enjoyed the story and the characters. This book was so riveting I could not put it down. I stayed up late every night because I never found a spot slow enough to put it down. Now I'm catching up on my sleep. The characters and story have stayed with me and I look forward to finding more gems from Robert Whitlow.

Whitlow is a master at peeling back the secrets and layers of Southern settings and characters. After one of his best books, "Life Support," I was thrilled to see a sequel. To be honest, though, I wasn't sure what material he had to work with. Others may disagree, but I loved the open-ended conclusion of "Life Support."
Once again, we are pulled into the psychotic world of Rena, a woman living with guilts and secrets. She begins seeing mysterious visions, and unwinds before our eyes. Whitlow portrays her with perfection. Along the way, Alex, her lawyer, begins to look for ways to disengage herself from this nightmarish client, while also looking for ways to build a deeper relationship with Ted Morgan, a Christian music minister. Their relationship goes through ups and downs, but they are drawn closer as the troubles of Rena's past loom larger.
The ending provides some satisfying emotional moments, even if a few of the mystery aspects are wrapped up a bit quickly. Although the book didn't hold the same sway over me as the first in the Santee Series, it's definitely a must for Whitlow fans.

I really liked this book. It's interesting to see what went on in his life. It's also very nice to see how God worked through his life and the lives of the people he knew. He shows what it looks like when you are living the life God would have you live. It's very inspiring.

This book picks up where "Rebel With A Cause" leaves off. To those that have read his first book, read this one next.
In this book, he tells about his life and ministry with his father, Dr. Billy Graham, and with his own ministry, Samaritan's Purse. You'll get an insider's view on what it's like to distribute relief aid to people in need around the world. He also talks about getting out of your comfort zones and what it means to "Live Beyond The Limits."
Once again, hats off to Franklin Graham. Keep up the good work!

Franklin Graham is carrying on the ministry of his father (Billy Graham) to reach out to the poor and downtrodden in today's world and show them that God wants us to live life to the fullest. He focuses on principles and promises essential to a full life if we are to be in 'sync' with God's design for us. We each are put here on earth for a purpose and, sometimes, it takes almost the entire lifespan to determine our purpose, but it is there waiting to be discovered, so that we can live a life of peace, joy, excitement, and fulfillment before we die.
These real-life stories of people who survived under "the most challenging circumstances imaginable" are amazing and inspiring. Franklin was a rebel for awhile before realizing that his role in today's world is to teach the rest of us what his dad has been doing for nearly fifty years. His autobiography was called REBEL WITH A CAUSE. He has written other books about miracles and religiousity and lives in Boone, North Carolina.
The photo section tells a story with each picture. It is true that one picture is worth a thousand words. They add interest to any book, especially those about real people and not figments of someone's imagination. Now, those are harder to illustrate.

"Making Love Last Forever" by Gary Smalley is a helpful tool for couples who wish to have a stronger and more intimate marriage. The title is about 270 pages and contains 16 chapters. Some of the topics are:
1. How to Address Unresolved Anger.
2. Balancing Expectations With Reality.
3. Five Vital Signs of a Healthy Marriage.
4. Better Communication.
5. Understanding Personality Types (this was my personal favorite, more about that later).
6. How to Bring the Best Out of Your Mate.
7. Dealing With Conflicts.
8. Divorce-Proofing Your Marriage.
I particularly liked the chapter on the different personality types. According to Smalley, there are four basic personality types that can be characterized by animals. While each person probably has characteristics of each, one or two most likely dominate:
1. Lion - likes to be in charge and can be a bit too pushy.
2. Otter - enjoys being with people but can lack focus.
3. Golden Retriever - loyal but can be too easily hurt.
4. Beaver - consistent but can be too critical.
Smalley takes the four types, describes their strengths and weaknesses, and suggests how to deal with each type and how each type can address their own negative tendencies. A very interesting chapter.
Read the book and be encouraged and challenged to work at having a better marriage. Highly recommended!

I found this book to be perfect for what I was looking for. It has a lot of Bible reading in the devotional itself and the New Century Version which it uses is easy reading and in today's language. It makes the Bible reading a pleasure. I also really like the comments and how they are pertinent to the Bible passage.

Victoria Nelson's "On Writer's Block" covers the entire territory of writing process, not just the silences inherent in that process.
It's filled with marvelous quotations and wonderful tips. One I loved was: write your own review before the critics to so you'll have something solid to lean against.
This book belongs in every writer's bedside library.

The title really doesn't do the scope of this book justice. I picked up this book because I was having some problems with a novel in progress. Then I read it and just sighed....clear insight into the writing process, the good, and useless, habits we form and their impact on our productivity. The book addresses a wide spectrum, such as: "Beginner's Block", Procrastination, Perfectionism, Obsessive Rewriting, and Success. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, this book should be part of your toolbox. It will get you writing....happily.

When I am completely stymied as to why I can't write creatively, I reach for the books at my bedside - The Holy Bible and this treasured paperback - to place me squarely back on track. Ms. Nelson has the uncanny ability to get me to cast away my inner slave driver who ruthlessly tries to force fame and fortune out of every sentence I write. She reminds me that I am a human being in need of TLC and a change in expectations without using cloying, "self-help" speak. I am forever indebted to her for writing such a wise book that comes across like loving advice from a trusted, experienced mentor every time I read a few chapters. My wish is that other frustrated writers come to know her intelligent solace so they can face the blank page truthfully, in peace and with joy. Thank you, Ms. Nelson, for being such a cherished lifesaver.

i liked: these 10 promises can be lived by during both challenging times and good times. author does an excellent work of outlining god's desire of moving us out of weakness away from him to boldness near him through his promises. each chapter begins with a red sea rule, a promise, then quotes a bible passage from exodus as its foundation. then through the chapter and sub-chapters you are taken on a journey of experiences and stories to illustrate the meaning of each promise. every chapter and sub-chapter is filled with scripture quotes and quotes from historical persons. a wonderful little book packed with great reading. i disliked: none found.

I never knew the history about the Salvation Army. I will look at the volunteers with a deeper appreciation from now on. I am starting to read it all over again as I feel the need to do so. I've shared segments with so many. David Jeremiah is a great author.

Christians, while there are mnany good and Godly people in this country, have by and large become soft and self-serving. This book will help cure us all of that. I have been inspired to get up out of the pew, out or my comfort zone, and out of my little holy huddle, and start some SERIOUS serving. If we serve, we will be more attractive to people and more pleasing to God and this book really helps show the way. David Jeremiah hits at the heart of the issue from a postive, encouraging point of view, rather than accusing, belittling, pointing fingers and making us feel guilty (isn't that Satan's job?). Great book, but don't just read it, DO IT!! We need to stop squabbling and start serving, and thereby show people that God is indeed alive in us!
Refined my Christian focus!

I saw Dr. Jeremiah preach the introductory message for this book and immediately knew that I wanted it. This book is assembled into 40 daily devotionals in Dr. Jeremiah's "get to the point" style. These 40 lessons support the five "signs of life" of a Christian: Dusty shoes, worn out knees, rolled up sleeves, open hands and outstretched arms. llustrations really add to the discussion of the point he is making.
We have just finished this book as a Sunday School study. Response was just wonderful.

I strongly recommend this book for the new Christian as well as someone who has been a Christian their entire life. I thought it was more of a chapter book, but it is a daily devotional which makes it even easier to read consistently. It has been very challenging to me spiritually.

This book was very well written in both its content and sentiment. Some adoption guides are technical and hard to read and I found this book to be neither. In addition to having great information regarding the various aspects of adoption, there are heart warming stories from adoptive parents and adoptees whose names you will recognize. This book is a must read!

My husband and I felt more confident about going through all of the steps of adoption after reading this book. This book tells you what the different types of adoption there are and what steps are necessary in each case. It is very detailed and helpful.

This book is 300% better than the first adoption book I chose to learn about this delicate subject. It has helped tremendously in reconciling feelings about adoption and my faith, as well as provide useful information in a very clear presentation. A must-read for anyone considering adoption!

Denise Hunter amazed me in this story. I enjoy allegories, and she skillfully created a love story which reflects on the love of God and His heart. I have a shelf in my office of favorites and Denise's books are there consistently. She won a new fan with her book Surrender Bay and I still tell people about it, though I read it last year. Her follow up "The Convenient Groom" was very well done, too.
I couldn't stop reading!!

This is the first Denise Hunter book I have read and I couldn't stop reading. After reading all the books of some of my favorite authors like Karen Kingsbury, Dee Henderson and Lori Wick, I searched on amazon.com for a good book to read. I thought Surrender Bay sounded like a good book, but I was blown away at how much I enjoyed this book. I picked it up one evening, after putting my children to bed, to read a few chapters and to check out if I liked Denise Hunter's writing syle. I read the entire book in five hours. Denise Hunter is an amazing author. I was never bored and my mind never wandered throughout the entire story. Great job. I can't wait to read her other books, especially her next book to be released The Convenient Groom.

Not a review as of yet -haven't finished the book but I am enjoying it thus far. Just want to let the author know (page 111) that there are no traffic lights on Nantucket. Part of the charm. Looking forward to the rest of the book.

I love a romance with deep emotion, a bit of angst, and plenty of romantic tension. Well this story packs a powerful punch in all three areas. It's an allegory and one of the coolest examples I've ever read. There are many, many women in this world who are just like Samantha, and there are many people in this world who are running from Christ as well. If He only knew what my heart was really like, they think, then there is no way He could love me. Wrong. And this story so beautifully illustrates that point. Samantha wanted Landon so badly, yet she was terrified of his intense love. And the scenes where he showed his love to her were so beautiful and powerful! Oy, I loved that. It literally swept me away.
Though God is never mentioned in this story you still see His love on every page. In Samantha's thoughts you hear the same doubts that Satan often puts in people's heads. Don't trust him. Don't let anyone love you. It hurts too much when they leave you. Poor Sam was abandoned by so many people, and that affected every stupid decision she made. And she made plenty of them. Quite a few you experience right along with her. The sense of desperation and self-loathing is multiplied with every wrong choice until she thinks there is no way that he could really love her. Not if he knew. And just like she hurt Landon in so many ways, we hurt God by rejecting His unconditional love.

When Sam returns to Natucket with her daughter Caden to fix up the childhood home she inherited upon her stepfather's death, she finds more waiting for her than she bargained.
I loved Hunter's skillful weaving in of back story and her often brilliant way with words. While Sam struggles at times to be forthcoming with our hero, Landon, about certain situations, Hunter shows us in this well-painted story that fear and doubt often bind us in ways we can't easily undo.
I highly recommend Surrender Bay. Like authors would be Sue Monk Kidd for pacing and literary beauty.

This is a very good story, quite touching, and what a beautiful cover! It really depicts the times. I like books such as these. Flags Of Our Fathers is another favorite! I am a regular WWII buff when it comes to things like this!
The opening train sequence captures your imagination and then you just cannot let go! Highly recommended!

Like the other reviewers I would highly recommend this book. I do not remember how I got a copy of it, and frankly was not sure it would be worth reading since I feared an overly pious book with under whelming plot. I was wrong in both counts. If you are familiar with World War II history, then you should have no problem following the plot. However if you are looking for blood spurts and four letter words being used, this is NOT the book for you.
My only objections to the book were the fact the author attributed certain actions to fictional characters that actually happened to real people, but then unexplainably included those same real people in his novel. Also he seemed to spend some time on a couple of characters thru the novel, but then near the end they just disappeared from the narrative but with no explanation as to why.
These two quibbles aside, it is definitely worth reading.

My dad was a bomber pilot in WWII, and I enjoy fiction set in this era. I enjoyed some aspects of this book; there were several little asides that evoked the time period very well. It is a very warm story, and there's nothing in it I wouldn't want my mother to read.
BUT, it's a little too sweetly corny and predictable to get more than three stars. The ending, in particular, was telegraphed from the very start, so there was no surprise when it arrived.
There's also a very strong Christian-faith-promoting undercurrent, which didn't bother me, but it gets in the way of the plot. In fact, it is the plot, pretty much. So this book would be a popular addition to the library shelves at the local Bible college, but I can't say it rates very high on my list of recommended reads. Sorry.

This book is a superb historical fiction in the setting of WWII. The book, while dealing heavily in the American daylight bombing campaigns, is not a typical book about the war. There are a few aspects that make this book unique when comparing it to other WWI books.
This is a book that deals with a few characters and covers all aspects of their lives: families left at home, US soldiers in an armor division, US aviators in a B-17 bomber squadron and US fighter pilots. This also deals with the human aspects of the soldier's relationships with the families back home and in their deployed locations. This is not a hard-core war book, nor is it a mushy romance novel. This book also deals heavily in the spiritual aspects of the members involved.
The writing is superb and gripping. I couldn't put the book down. I relished the spiritual aspects of the book, and there are all types of people involved from chaplains, church members, knowledgeable agnostics and a-spiritual people. One of the main characters, a chaplain in the USAAF, shows the relationship between a chaplain and the bomber crews flying daylight precision bombing missions over Europe. Some of the missions are merely mentioned in a journal-like setting. Others are described in detail. But, the book does not focus only on the aircrews and their plight, but also deals with men under the command of Gen Patton in N. Africa. You get to know the characters, making it more than names when characters succumb to enemy fire.
This is not a book for someone looking for a hard-core wartime historical fiction, because of the softer aspects dealt with in the writing. But, this should not be overlooked because of the real-life air this book sets up.
A superb read and one of the rare fictions I will keep in my library.

Definately one of Robert Vaughan best! I loved this book and so will you. An entertaining blend of history, adventure, drama, romance and spirituality. Vaughan gets you inside the minds and hearts of his characters. You will feel like you are with these young airmen on their flying missions in Europe during WWII. A page turner that you wont want to put down right up to the magical ending. You will want to share it with others.
