N Books

After just flipping through this book I knew I HAD to own it. I already have a list of about 20 recipes to try, but figuring out which one to make first is the real problem! Will it be the Lipsmacker Lemon Bars, or the Coffee & Cream White Chocolate Chunkers? The list goes on and on, I will have to choose soon so I know what to take to the "Cookie Fest" we are having at work next week. I think whatever I make I will have nothing to bring home but an empty plate. Books like this do not come along very often, so grab a copy, preheat the oven and have fun!

It's funny how some books end up getting used more than others. I'm not sure I would have predicted I'd have used this so much, but I've ended up making more cookies from this one little book than any other on my shelf (and there are many). I'm an ambitious baker, but when it comes to those night-before moments when I need to bake a batch of cookies for somewhere or someone, I'm more often than not a bit too tired. This is simply a very handy book and I've had lots of success with the recipes (although, looking back, almost 100% of my choices have been citrus-type cookies. I think the addition of bright flavors is what makes the dough taste like homemade). The lemon poppyseed tart is also quite good, very pretty and people were impressed (I put fresh blackberries on top--gorgeous).

If you baked your cookies from scratch, or used the recipes in this book using regrigerated dough - nobody will know! You'll know though, because you'll have less mess and more free time.

I used to love baking everything from scratch, and I still do from time to time (seems like twice a year now - Christmas and Easter). But when you become a Mom, although you're intentions were there, baking from scratch is often something there is just not time for anymore. This book gets you bake sale ready cookies that will win you raves as well as raise funds, office coffee room cookies that will be gone within minutes and gourmet cookies that your friends and family will want the recipes for. People will be whispering behind your back that you're the next Mrs. Fields.

Using the refrigerated dough is also less ingredients for the baker on the go - just grab a few rolls and you're halfway there. Stock up on the mix ins, and you're done!

This is a cookbook I really do use--a lot. I like some of the very easiest recipes in here, especially the variations on the chocolate chip cookies. They really taste unique. A friend of a friend who worked as a pstry chef thought the peppery ginger chocolate chip cookies (they have cryst. ginger and pepper mixed in) were brilliant and wanted the recipe--thy're that good. Smart ideas, smart book, worth the money.

Kudos! Great book, especially for the occasional baker. I love love love the lemon ginger gems (soft, you add crystallized ginger 1 package 3-ounce cream cheese, lemon zest to sugar dough). I like more innovative cookeis like that and the coffee toffee bars and pretty much all of the cheesecake creations throughout the book. The rest of the gang in my house can't get enough of some of the simpler ideas (my husband can vouch for the fluffer nutter choc chip cookie sandwiches: peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiched between chocolate chip cookies--so easy and so YUMMY!) and the big cookies you can make and decorate like a pizza--big kid favorite.

Hope there's a follow-up book, becasue I'll get it.

Very interesting book to read. Not always easy, but idea behind it is pretty clear. In order to create healthy working environment managers have to encourage curiousity and cooperation accross organization. That in turn will generate discovery process that will lead to innovation. More people get included in the process, outcome is teamwork where everyone gets valued and recognized. In such environment, teams become successful and people in general work together better. Relationships are meaningful, throughput greater and overall happiness is inevitable.

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas along with a crepe maker. We've used it THREE times since Christmas...three different recipes in three days and each has been DELICIOUS! Great pictures...wonderful recipes and tips!

I took a crepe making class just to learn the technique and take the fear out of crepe making. While I took away from that class a few recipes, none were interesting enough to make at home. This book is wonderful--what closed the deal on purchasing it was when I saw that it included a recipe for blue corn crepes. While vacationing in Santa Fe, I fell in love with their blue corn pancake/muffin mix. I can't wait to make the blue corn crepes with the blue corn mix I brought back to Houston. The recipes in this book are exactly what I was looking for--diverse and simple to follow.

I opened the book, and made excellent crepes right away, within minutes. Can't do much better than that!

I originally found this book at a library, but after checking it out over and over again -as I love it, I checked on Amazon and it was here!! Love it! It has such a wonderful variety of crepes, using different flours etc., sweet and savory, and so many tips and ideas. I share this book title with everyone at my cooking shows. Definitely worth the price and then some!

The introduction to this book and the basic recipes for crepes are well worth its price. The crepes turn out tender and flavorful every time. One of my new favorites for savory crepes is the Garbanzo Flour Crepe recipe. Another excellent feature is that Seibert-Pappas gives useful information on how to fold and store crepes.

One drawback to this book is that Ricotta cheese is used as a filler in virtually all of the savory crepe recipes. This can be a problem if you do not like ricotta cheese or if you do not like it when it is combined with certain foods (e.g. seafood). The recipes for dessert crepes are more varied.

While it is good to forgive and have an attitude of gratitude, I didn't get a lot out of this one. You might be better off reading the seven habits of highly effective people about sharpening the axe and then going to church.

I am a wife, mother of two young children, professional and I am unexpectedly dealing with some serious health issues. "The Daily Six" was recommended by a friend and it has completely changed the way I view my current situation. I find myself feeling gratitude instead of despair; using "quiet time" as tool for maintaining a positive attitude; smiling despite my pain; enjoying small moments with my husband and my children. The difference this book has made in my life, during a very difficult time, is truly amazing. As the author points out, "when the student is ready, the teacher shows up". "The Daily Six" has become my teacher and I am grateful.

I have read many professional improvement books. However, The Daily Six taps into something I have yet to find in other books--Chappelear, through his personal experience, creates an "A ha" moment for the reader! I realized: I can apply these simple tenants to my daily life.

This book is the best motivational / self help book I have yet read. The six steps in this book are easy to use in every day life. The book is clear and to the point. The Daily Six are steps that anyone can follow. Of all the self help books I have ever read, this one contains the best advice I have ever heard.

Smart, almost too funny. I have presonaly recommenedd this great book to at least 5 ladies. Must have book to all woman. Love it.

This book is awesome for all the single girls, newly single women. If you need direction in how to find a man, and how to learn his reactions this is the book for you.

Lauren Frances is one clever fox.

She knows how to 'play the cold/cruel game' the men so blatantly boast about..

but in a warm/sophisticated and feminine manner. If men aren't human enough to stay with the woman he has just had a wonderful/intimate night with ..then so be it.. however he is clearly not human.. but a bird who flies away.. lol! This is the new revolutionary book to seduction and what mindset to have when playing this 'game' that men have started...

This is one of the funniest books I've ever read on the mating game!

Ms. Frances has done her field work and her observations are not only witty and entertaining, but very insightful.

Should be a "must read" for every female.

The woman who wrote this book is clearly quite clever. Her associations of men to birds is truly amazing. There are quite a diverse number of birds out there, from eagles to doves to peacocks. This book is entertaining, but I can't say it changed much about the men in my life (or how I deal with them). I'd buy it for the humor, but not for the self-help aspect.

This book is sweet and educational. It is one of our favorites to read.

An absolute treasure! Emily is adorable and Simon James perfectly captures childhood innocence and love for a special friend.

This is an all time favorite in our preschool. Had trouble finding it until now. Great service. Good book.

Wow! This book serves a plethora of functions... From the very young they will be enchanted with the beautifully jewel toned colours on the pages... If your child likes ocean animals they will learn all about whales in this beautifully told tale of the growing bond between a young student and her teacher as Mr. Blueberry teaches and corrects her misconceptions of whales habits and habitats. It is a great vehicle to use in the classroom to teach letter writing, writing notebook, and several other writing workshop minilessons. Great literacy selection... My son who is 6 as well as my class of aged 10 and 11 year olds adore this book on many different levels... ;)

I've been using this book with my kindergarten and first grade to introduce text illustration. They absolutely love it. I get applause every time I read it.

The illustrations are beautiful watercolors inspired by Emily's view of what is going on in her back yard.

My favorite part of the book is that readers are not told conclusively whether there was actually a whale in Emily's pond. It preserves a bit of the magic of believing that Arthur the whale was real.

A wonderful book for boys and girls.

Another hit in the school lilbrary. Tis author is just absolutely funny. Again, this a difinite read if you are in a bad mood. Item arrived in excellent condition.

Those wacky animals of Farmer Brown's farm are at it again. This time Duck has convinced his fellow barnyard residence that they should try to win the first prize trampoline at the County Fair talent contest. The animals begin rehearsing their acts, while the clueless Farmer Brown becomes suspicious. To prevent the animals from getting into trouble while he goes to the fair, he takes the animals along, allowing them to compete in the contest. The competition doesn't go as planned, but Duck saves the day with a smashing performance.

Doreen Cronin is a superb story teller for children, and also the adult reading it to them.

Farmer Brown (is every farmer in the world named "Brown" or McDonald?") is watching his critters quite closely. There are strange things going on. He notes that Duck has removed an add from the paper announcing a local talent show. First prize is a Trampoline! His toubles begin.

This is one of those works that is absolutly ideal to read aloud to a class of children. There is singing and the pigs actually do an interpertive dance. Practice goes on every night in the barn. The art work is great, the situations and story is hillarious and, best of all, the kids I read it to all love it. It is a book that I really do not get tired of reading, as is so often the case.

In the end, the show is saved by no other than Duck. The animals win the contest and win the Trampolline. Farmer Brown's troubles have indeed, just started.

Recommend this one highly. You really cannot go wrong with this one.

Any sports fan who picks up "Eagle Blue" will not be disappointed, although you should like this one even if you could care less about hoops....Basketball is the stage for the story, but not the story itself. This isn't your typical book depicting some world-weary NBA star or jaded coach. D'Orso makes you care about the players and coaches at a tiny school literally in the middle of nowhere, thus their wins (and losses) somehow become your own. If that were as far as this book took you, it would be satisfying just on that basis. But it doesn't end there.

By the time you're done reading "Eagle Blue", you'll likely become sympathetic with the people populating its pages. Theirs is a culture that has been decimated, and you can see very real defeat among many tribal members. Note: D'Orso interjects his own politics when he talks about ANWR, but it's not as much a distraction as it could've been. The real story is how a group of teenagers galvanizes a town with nothing else to cheer about despite the efforts of some people, mostly outsiders, to kill what they have, and he thankfully keeps the focus on that.

If you're at all like me (and God help you if you are), you'll fight to stay awake until 3AM because you literally do not want to put this book down and fall aleep.

Boldly honest, "insiders" perspective from an outsider. Interesting insight into modern Native life in Arctic Alaska.

D'Orso's honest, unembellished presentation of everyday life for the characters - team members and townspeople of Fort Yukon - allows the reader to gain an open true look at what everyday life entails in this part of Alaska. It brings out the difficulties of living in the outposts of Arctic Alaska, Native vs. modern culture, politics vs. the land/natural resources/hunting/etc., and of course the tale of a group of young men and women representing their town as members of high school basketball teams. The pressures faced by these young men as individuals, family members, and town members and how each deals with it and grows shows a great view of life as it unfolds for them. Their daily lives are woven around the story of the basketball team and the course of a season sharing the success and adversity over the course of the year. A wonderful mix of human interest and basketball.

Highly enjoyable read.

This review of a basketball team's season is about an entire culture and about life. You'll be rooting on the Eagle Blue as you read this true story.

I've read many books about a sports season that, in a boring way, review game highlights. D'Orso reviews the entire culture, what basketball means in bush country, Alaska, in prose that is wonderful and intelligent.

Excellent book on life and sports. I'd recommend this to everyone, especially players and coaches at all levels.

This was one of the first books I read after discovering my son had Asperger's. Valerie Paradiz's insight, vulnerability, and unswerving truth have helped me every day in dealing with my children... The joys and miracles, and the difficult, difficult challenges. I truly love this book and recommend it for a strong understanding of the human side of asperger's an the challenges a family faces.

Valerie and Ben are devastated when their then 2-year-old son was diagnosed with autism in addition to epilepsy. Ben has trouble accepting the diagnosis and in time the marriage dissolved.

Instead of condemning Elijah to a life of labels and misperceptions about autism, Valerie Paradiz educated her small upstate New York community as well as the world at large in this book about her personal experiences with autism. Her son and father are both on the spectrum and this book is one of many that points out the genetic basis autism has.

Elijah was enrolled in special programs from the age of three and his greatest progress is made at home and with a friend he and Valerie meet. Sharron, an independent artist is herself struggling with Asperger's, the spectrum partner to autism. She recognizes in Elijah similar traits and experiences she contends with and finally receives a diagnosis. She bonded immediately with the boy and was his regular sitter for some years.

I like the way Valerie worked with Elijah; I like the way she taught him more appropriate ways of responding to peers, such as Trevor in the chess club. Trevor came away with empowered with knowledge and a chance to be more accepting of someone he sees as being "different" and Elijah understands what he can do to regulate his behaviors and move more comfortably in social circles.

I like the conversations mother and son had; I also like the outdoor programs for people on the autism/Asperger's (a/A) spectrum that are described in the book. Best of all, having autism is CELEBRATED!

I've banged on the different drum for a long time about how being on the a/A spectrum is something to celebrate. People on the spectrum have novel perceptions and unique insights that many neurotypical (NT) counterparts do not. One misperception is that people with autism all think in pictures, which simply is not true. Ben Levinson, co-author of "Finding Ben" and Sean Barron, co-author of "There's a Boy In Here" are not picture thinkers and neither are many other people on the a/A spectrum.

Meltdowns due to sensory overload are not uncommon among the spectrum. Sadly, the NT world often looks askance at those on the a/A spectrum simply from a lack of understanding of what people with autism contend with on a routine basis. Elijah, for example would vomit during thunderstorms as the noise upset him. I like the way another reviewer said in re a/A, "Vive la difference!" Wave that banner of interlocking puzzle pieces proudly - autism is NOT something to be ashamed of having!

Two songs seem to underscore this book so perfectly - Herman Kelly & Life's "Let's Dance to the Drummer's Beat" and Linda Ronstadt & the Stone Poneys 1968 song, "(Beat of a) Different Drum." With more drums beating, you get quite a tune! With more drums being beaten, you have different drummers!

People on the a/A spectrum enrich the world tremendously. The contributions are NOT limited to Temple Grandin, Andy Warhol and Einstein and other public figures. People with autism also provide ample opportunity to learn acceptance and realize the world is for everybody and not just the NT population. All too often, people on the a/A spectrum are expected to make all the concessions, especially social concessions to the NT world and try to keep track of the Tacit Social Codes & Rules, which always seem to change at the whims of the NT world.

Now let's all march to our different drummers.

Elijah's Cup is not ony a superb read that I would recommend to all teachers of children but also an adventurous journey into what it is to be autistic as well as to have aspergers syndrome. Paradiz writes beautifully, bringing her story to life in graphic detail while informing her reader in a broad and comprehensive manner concerning both Autism and Aspergers. She has a comprehensive index, bibliography, and reference section that will be of help to many. Tasha Halpert

This is an extraordinary, rare and unique book about an autistic child. The thing that makes it this way, is his mother's pure and loving acceptance of him, just the way he is. His mother's creative solutions to make living with him the best it can be. Everyone having anything to do with an autistic child, should read it, if only for the different point of view. The view that every child has value, and there is something to be said for treasuring him just for who he is.

Elijah is a fascinating child. He has been able to absorb much comprehension about the world, and his own disability, and how to cope, through his endless questioning of his mother, and her amazingly patient, honest, and encouraging replies. He will be an adult with a tremendous advantage over other children like him, for having had Valerie Paradiz for a mother.

I look forward to exercising about as much as I like eating a bowl of cold mashed potatoes but after buying this book I actually look forwrd to working out with the ball and I feel great afterwards. Perhaps I'm a bit challenged using (how to) books but this is written well enough and has lots of pictures that even I enjoy working out.

I have really enjoyed this DVD. It has great instruction for beginners as well as challenges as you progress. I purchased the book as well but really don't need both.

Exercise Balls For Dummies has everything it takes to be on the best seller list. The chapter that focuses on stretching alone helped relieve years of chronic back pain. Great job to the author LaReine Chabut for writing and illustrating such a complete and comprehensive guide for everyone. A must read on everybody's list!
