Delightful & joyful introduction to messianic dance worshipReview Date: 2005-03-06
The book is a pretty light read, and has a respectful and joyful style. There aren't a lot of references and notes, but when you stop to think about it when was the last time you saw lots of stuffy on this topic? Hopefully this book will encourage more of that.
Dance worship is a pretty distinctive and integral part of Messianic Jewish Congregations; this is the perspective from which the book was written. For those who want to get an idea about Messianic dance, and perhaps integrate it inot your congregation, this is a great book. If you have doubts that dance and worship (Godly) can coexist, this is also an excellent starting point.
In summary this is a delightful book that gives a helpful picture of what congregational dance can be. May you use dance in your worship of the Lord!

Outstanding PhotojounralismReview Date: 2005-03-27
Following a laudatory introduction by New Yorker writer Murray Sayle, the bulk of the book is comprised of Jones Griffiths' international work, undertaken as a member (and president) of the presitgious Magnum photographers cooperative. His photography is informed by a strong sense of compassion and empathy for the victims of opression and war. The compositions are strong and many of the images are loaded with stark symbolism. From the very front of the book we get shots of a fat white missionary in knee high socks standing amidst natives in New Guinea, scantily clad European tourists lounging with drinks by a river in Gambia, a white Rhodesian golfer considering her shot with three black caddies and the African savannah in the background.
His series of ten photos from Northern Ireland in the early '70s is loaded with surreal and striking images: a soldier crouches behind a wall in a garden while a woman mows the lawn right behind him; another soldier is prone behind sandbags on a street while women push strollers past him; one of the best portraits in the book is of a grim-faced paratrooper reloads a CS gun. A middle section is scattered with a hodgepodge of images from around the world from the 60s to the early 90s. The book ends with forty images from Vietnam and Camodia, most of which are from his three years there during the war and also appear in Vietnam, Inc.
Defintely a must have for anyone interested in photojournalism.
A Disturbing and Haunting MasterpieceReview Date: 2001-12-13
Griffiths is probably best known for his book "Vietnam, Inc." (many of those photographs are included in this edition) but many of his greatest are contained in this superb volume, including some images of the weary, haunted faces of the children of Wales, his birthplace.
Being Welsh, and on the recieving end of British expansionism, Griffiths clearly sympathises (and rightly so) with the Vietnamise civilians (on the recieving end of French AND American expansionism)whose pleading expressions demonstrate clearly how much Americans were "helping" them evade the "evil grip of communism".
If I were to own ONE book of photographs, I would without hesitation choose this volume, for it's images are not only an important documentation of one of the darkest pieces of American history, but an amazing and invaluable work of art.

Engaging and lively, this is the best book on the subjectReview Date: 2001-11-14
Dividing the book into sections dealing with air, land, naval, tactical and operational deception and then providing a detailed look at how deception works at each level has proved an excellent way to break down this complex topic. Each chapter is also full of colorful examples of deception efforts in history (eg. the British in WW2 observed the Germans building a intricate wooden mock-up airfield. On the day of its completion they sent over a lone Lancaster and dropped a large wooden bomb on it!). The lessons from history serve to illustrate each point Latimer brings up and keep the book lively and interesting.
Latimer has excelled at making this a very accesabile book which while it provides the detail a military buff wants is interesting enough to capture readers with a more general interest. I was genuinely disapointed when I completed the book, wishing there was more to read!

Fantastic!Suggestive!InspiringReview Date: 2001-11-09
But I was wrong at this time. Already when I first looked inside it,I knew it would be amazingly suggestive for me. And I bought it. It was rather cheap for beeing such a book.
It features all kinds of deserted landscape from the US.
Some times,it doesn`t look much like desert, mostly in the Mojave, which the first chapter is about. Deserts are not at all lifeless places - in fact,it is full of wild palms, beautifull flowers and cacti with artistic shapes.
The second chapter treats the Sonoran Desert, and it,too, contains more of the diverse flora, especially the red cactus flowers.
In the third chapter, called Colorado Desert - Life on the Rocks, there are lots of such pictures too,but there is one special image that catches your attention immidiatley - pressure ridges in a salt pan, which looks like the finest crystals ever found!
The fourth chapter shows other kinds of desert. For you who like rocky deserts, this is something. It has fantastic sceneries from hundreds of feet high rocks,as well as a picture of dunes with white sand. That is the most lifeless of all deserts and the quietness is sometimes even frightening.
The fifth chapter is about The Great Basin Desert, and that is the largest desert of North America. Many pics in this chapter contains really fantastic views, and you`ll even find SNOW here!In a desert!Just amazin, isn`t it?Some of the most inspiring pictures are found here, and therefore, this is my favorite chapter. The special with those pictures are the mud formations at dusk.
The sixth chapter is "Painted Desert",which is also very inspiring, and here there are some pictures of the Colorado Plateau, which is fantastic rock formations where fossils of my favorite animals can be found (dinosaurs!). Many of the formations here are well-known from Western Movies. In this chapter, amazing pictures of Grand Canyon can be found as well.
I have now realized that this is my No.1 inspiration source for my animal stories. When I am drawing them,I am always looking at pictures of this book to find a suitable background for my dinosaurs. I am combining the best pictures. And then it is just to add the dinos. When I read this book,I pretend that I am trying to create a good dinosaur movie when looking at the pictures. It is incredibly inspiring, and ABSOLUTELY something for anyone who likes painting or look at landscapes.
You could spend (money) for "The Western Horizon" or (less) for this one. The choice is up to you. But I have made mine. Get inspired and save a lot of money by buying this one!

THE DEVIL & MRS. JOHNSONReview Date: 2008-08-17
The Devil & Ms. Johnson Review Date: 2008-02-29
After a brief struggle and a rather unusual getting to know you period, Lacey discovers that Devon is the best friend of Jane's new husband. Their mutual attraction gets the better of them and seduction leads to passion. The next morning Devon leaves for work and discovers that Lacey is going to be working with him for the FBI. Posing as lovers is easy, keeping safe and out of harms way may not be. What was supposed to be a simple mission is turning dangerous quickly.
From the first description of Devon, I was practically drooling over him. It didn't take long after that to be completely seduced. Not just by Devon but by Lacey and Devon's romance. They took my breath away with their passion! I really enjoyed their personalities and their desire for each other. They were so much fun to read about! The Devil and Ms. Johnson is fun, exciting, sexy and laced with humor. I really enjoyed this
book and highly recommend it.

A well-crafted story from Ms. Murray and Ellora's CaveReview Date: 2008-03-24
While the sex still steams, this book focuses the reader on the extremely well-plotted story line. There is just enough suprise to keep the reader engrossed and nothing so over-the-top that one loses faith in the story.
This was my first time reading Hannah Murray's work and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
