Photographer and expert gardener Elizabeth Murray helped to restore Monet's gardens, which are now open to the public, during the 1980s; she returns each year to capture new radiance on film. Murray's detailed descriptions accompany her verdant subjects. SPIRAL-BOUND ENGAGEMENT CALENDAR
"When Claude Monet, the foremost Impressionist, bought a house in Giverny, then about 40 miles from Paris, he set himself to the task of giving nature everything she needed to produce an abundance of brilliant blooms and greenery throughout the extensive grounds.

"Seen by only a few in Monet's lifetime, the extraordinary gardens went to seed after the artist's death. Photographer and expert gardener Elizabeth Murray helped to restore the Giverny gardens now open to the public for more than 20 years and she returns there each year to capture Monet's passion at its most radiant and riotous. A thorough description accompanies each of the 53 photographs in this sumptuous calendar, as does a quotation from Monet or one of his contemporaries.

"112 page, spiral-bound weekly engagement calendar; 53 full-color photographs, and clear plastic covers. Size: 6 5/8 by 8". Calendar features 53 weekly grids and full-page 2006 and 2007 yearly grids. Includes international holidays and a page for notes. ISBN 0-7649-3034-6. Click on the small picture to see an inside page. I bought Steve Murray's cancer imagery dvds and decided buy the book also. The book took the mystery out of cancer imagery and made it simple to start a program. I recommend the book and getting one of his dvds or videos on cancer imagery. It would be money well spent.

This Program is a MUST for anyone with cancer!

I would highly recommend Steve Murray's Cancer Guided Imagery Programs for anyone currently on the journey of recovery from cancer. I am a current breast cancer patient that was looking for a complimentary therapy to help me reduce my stress level while I was going through chemotherapy.

My doctor recommended that I explore a method that focused on mind, body and spirit. I stumbled upon Steve's dvd series and was amazed at how it put me in a calm state almost immediately. The guided imagery sections were so soothing and relaxing that I felt completely at peace and any tension that I was holding was one. As a result I have not had any of the side effects that most people have with chemotherapy. The visual images are absolutely beautiful and vibrant. During one of the segments, I was convinced that the images leapt off of the screen and surrounded me with healing light. Everytime I watch the dvd, I am further empowered to be able to fight this disease.

My oncology staff at UCLA's Cancer Center acknowledge the effective support the mind/body connection have as an aide in fighting this disease and Steve had perfected the tried and true art of visualization. I have been asked to speak at an awards dinner for the American Cancer Society, in which we will honor 5 individuals who have made great strides in promoting cancer awareness and patient support and I will certainly speak well of Steve Murray's Cancer Guided Imagery programs.

beautiful - breathtaking of timeless love and fairy tales

I love this book for a million reasons but probably the simplest reason is the mystery that is as old as the world and the separateness and unity of the sexes themselves. It paints Clare the human woman and Clare the divine woman and seeks not to compromise either but makes St. Clare real flesh and bone and brings her radiant awe into a new era when mankind is floundering for as sense of identity. Friar Bodo writes like no other and from the point of view of a contemplative, the inner way and written by a man who himself seems to be madly in love with the Lady Clare - and who himself has the touch and the gift of a medieval poet.

this book is written with all the tender poignancy of a lover and with all the insight and wisdom of a man who has followed in the footsteps of the Franciscan Way. For all who are interested in a more intimate knowledge of Clare and Francis or anyone simply interested in a love story at it's zenith and it's purest - this book is purely a real fairy tale and pure treasure.

A beautiful, gorgeous book that invokes prayer

Crazy Visitation: A Chronicle Of Illness And Recovery is the personal story of author Saundra Murray Nettles, who lived with an encroaching brain tumor affecting her memory, personality, mood, and physical well-being for years before its diagnosis and removal. Pieced together through written records and the recollection of others as well as the author's own memory, Crazy Visitation is the story of both sickness and the long road to healing. A deeply moving and uplifting book, Crazy Visitation is emotionally rewarding, highly recommended reading.

Saundra Murray Nettle's reflections are inspiring. I was inspired to keep fighting, keep searching for what is good and loving and to stay engaged with living life.

What Saundra Murray Nettles has done in her narrative, "Crazy Visitations", is transcend the inherent, self-imposed limitation of western psychology... what she has done is summon the courage to open a path to bring spirit into psychology. Summoning this courage is, in itself, a miracle given the fact that so many African-American women suffer from a rare and lethal strain of fear; the by-product of innumerous years of unfathomable racism, sexism, and oppression. Yet, Dr. Nettles emerges... a beautiful warrior-poet willing to follow her inner-compass toward reconstruction. What makes Dr. Nettles' narrative so compelling is that she has managed to prepare a pathway for spirit to take its rightful place as focus point of the field of psychology. After reading her story, it is quite evident that human beings cannot define or attempt to fully understand their true selves in terms of behavior, innate abilities and processes, and/or personality traits, because these things are easily manipulated by outside persons and/or objects (e.g. "an orange-sized meningioma"). Apparently there is something more to the human experience than meets the eye - an eye that has for far too long been pathologically concerned with finding physical, empirical "proof." I believe that "something more" is spirit. This word has not had any place whatsoever in the field and I believe this is why western psychology will always fall short of finding those "universal truths" it so relentlessly pursues. The absence of spirit in the field has led us to a plateau where there is an abundance of empirical data, but limited, superficial progress in using that information to better humanity. Psychologists must realize their role as healers and, even further, understand the profound implications of this role. Dr. Nettles' narrative makes it unquestionably clear that this is thoroughly understood in her spirit and is beginning to take verbal shape in her consciousness. She has taken the time to critically reflect on her experiences, not as isolated events, but rather as a process that is constantly moving her toward her highest good. As such, Dr. Nettles is in a state of continual healing and renewal that radiates to all that come to know her story. I once heard something to the effect that it was truly sad that so many wonderful, brilliant people pass through this life nameless -- leaving behind a legacy of profound achievement and decency -- before anyone got a chance to simply say, "thank you." Right now, Saundra Murray Nettles, I say thank you. You are an inspiration and I am so grateful that our paths have crossed.

I happened upon this book at a swap meet and purchased it on a whim. It was beautiful and I thought it would make a great "coffee table" book, if anything. I opened it and couldn't put it down! There are 4 "chapters", one for each season. I especially liked the section of the book describing Murray's favorite gardens. I can't tell you how many extra hours a week I've spent in my own garden because of this book. It worked, Elizabeth! Thank you.

When this book arrived to our all-green-thumbs and "plays with dirt" T-shirt household, I thought it would make a lovely coffee table book: more about ideas, and getting to see what other folks are doing, and not so much a how-to book.
Well, it is all of those things, and a reminder that the inspirational look at this gorgeous thing these folks did sorts of books really are just that: inspiration to get out in one's own garden and start digging, and making the green space thrive. Gardens are not just for market veggies, or even just for table flowers; they restore the soul and feed all of one's senses, and that's echoed beautifully in this book, through the four seasons.
As good a gift for someone who doesn't have room or ability to garden, as for those who are able to peruse its pages and then go plan the current year's new corner, or item, in their own gardens.
Thank you, Elizabeth Murray, for this wonderful book, and for showing us more of some gardens we'd love to see in person some day!

This book is the inspiring story of the last surviving Ziegfeld Girl. The fabulous centenarian Doris Eaton Travis takes us on an amazing journey through the ups and downs of one family - members of which just happened to be stage performers. While several of Ms. Travis' siblings met tragic ends, she persevered - through her glorious Ziegfeld years, the sad days of the Great Depression, her loving second marriage, and her bittersweet (and ultimately disenchanting) relationship with Arthur Murray of dance studio fame. Nostalgic yet never melodramatic, Doris Eaton Travis' writing is fresh and upbeat. I was moved to tears at the end - not from sadness, but rather from awe at this magnificent woman with the indomitable spirit! I only wish I had the priviledge of knowing this lovely woman. A truly wonderful read - I simply can't praise this book enough!

I read it right away and absolutely loved it! She is an amazing woman and has lead and incredible life which she tells about in her book. At age 99, she is still going strong and is as busy as ever! I loved meeting and interviewing her and definately loved this book! I recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Doris Eaton Travis, at age 99, looks back at a full life, the early part of which is a valuable, firsthand portrait of early 20th Century entertainment, when vaudeville and the stage was still a central part of pop culture. Her frank appraisal of the rough road even successful performers would face as times changed is certainly an antidote to nostalgic ruminations about that long gone era! Highly recommended.

Building Healthy, Constructive Relationships
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2004-01-22
It's not always the catastrophic event that destroys our relationships; indeed, the most perilous of dangers can be those that do subtle, insidious damage - often over time rather than all at once. In Destructive Relationships, Dr. Jill Murray inspects with us the beliefs, feelings, and actions that serve as foundation for our connections to others. She identifies the symptoms, causes, and consequences of destructive relationships. And, in the process, she provides for the reader a toolbox of skills and attitudes necessary to build positive, healthy relationships.

Through a variety of case studies, Dr. Murray illustrates the warning signs of destructive relationships. Importantly, she defines and describes the many types of abuse that can occur in a relationship: physical, emotional, sexual, and verbal. She demonstrates clearly that these abusive relationships can cause immediate or long-term, slight or devastating damage - to us and to those with whom we connect. And on an optimistic, empowering note, the author provides for the reader a blueprint for changing the dynamics of current and future relationships.

Destructive Relationships is an important book for anyone interested in establishing and maintaining healthy, positive relationships. Readers will learn to identify and apply those attitudes and skills that best nurture healthy, positive relationships with others. In doing so, they will better equip themselves to build interpersonal connections that are safe and solid - physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

A Pathway to getting out of destructive relationships
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2003-07-14
While there are many types of destructive relationships this book deals primarily with abusive ones. These relationships may be between husband and wife, boss and employee, friends, parents, children, or any other group of people. The relationships may be physically abusive, or they may be emotionally, sexually, or verbally abusive. "Destructive Relationships" walks the reader through warning signs that a relationship might be unhealthy by defining what is normal and what is not. The authors follow that up with an excellent look at self-esteem issues and how to deal with them effectively instead of using ineffective coping mechanisms. Finally Dr. Murray shows you the pathway to a positive future with healthy relationships.

The sections on the consequences of abusive relationships were exceptional. They defined not only the consequence but also the various ways in which those consequences manifest themselves. Each section then ended with an activity you can do to help lessen the power of the consequence. There is also an excellent chapter on dealing with abusers in the real world.

"Destructive Relationships" is a highly recommended read for many people: for anyone involved in such relationships and blaming themselves, for people who seem to always be getting into abusive relationships, or anyone who knows someone in such a relationship. It is not a miracle answer, but a pathway that the person must travel to achieve freedom from the grip of low self-esteem, emotional fear, shame, guilt, and other consequences of destructive relationships.

Passing out after her friend Jane's wedding, Lacey wakes to find a man, a very handsome man, standing over her. Thinking she is in danger she tries to fight him off and succeeds in injuring him. But, Devon is not trying to harm Lacey. He's only trying to remove the champagne bottle from the unconscious woman in his temporary bed.

After a brief struggle and a rather unusual getting to know you period, Lacey discovers that Devon is the best friend of Jane's new husband. Their mutual attraction gets the better of them and seduction leads to passion. The next morning Devon leaves for work and discovers that Lacey is going to be working with him for the FBI. Posing as lovers is easy, keeping safe and out of harms way may not be. What was supposed to be a simple mission is turning dangerous quickly.

From the first description of Devon, I was practically drooling over him. It didn't take long after that to be completely seduced. Not just by Devon but by Lacey and Devon's romance. They took my breath away with their passion! I really enjoyed their personalities and their desire for each other. They were so much fun to read about! The Devil and Ms. Johnson is fun, exciting, sexy and laced with humor. I really enjoyed this
book and highly recommend it.

The problem with Ellora's Cave books is that the writers spend too much time trying to create unusual sex scenes and not enough time building stories. Thank you Hannah Murray for bringing storytelling back to EC stories!

While the sex still steams, this book focuses the reader on the extremely well-plotted story line. There is just enough suprise to keep the reader engrossed and nothing so over-the-top that one loses faith in the story.

This was my first time reading Hannah Murray's work and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

AN IMPORTANT AND WELL DONE NEW BOOK ABOUT THE BERRIGANS!
Helpful Votes: 18 out of 22 total.
Review Date: 2000-11-18
The most famous Roman Catholics in America in the 1960's were two priests who were (still are) brothers: Philip and Daniel Berrigan, the former a priest member of the Society Of St. Joseph (commonly known as the "Josephites," an order dedicated to serving the Black community), the latter a Jesuit. SSJ and SJ respectively.

Starting in the 1960's, these two priests broke a lot of laws, and served a lot of time in various jails and prisons. They became famous as objectors to the War In Vietnam, and later expanded their respective "ministries of protest" to other situations of social injustice, as they perceived it.

Murray Polner and Jim O'Grady have written a fascinating account of the Berrigan brothers worth buying and reading. The Berrigan brothers became famous as two ninths of the "Catonsville (Maryland, USA) Nine," a group of protesters who, on May 17, 1968, raided a suburban Baltimore (Maryland, USA) draft board office, took its files of eligible young men about to be drafted into military service and possible combat in the then on-going War In Viet-Nam, and burned the draft board's records in a nearby parking lot, using a home made form of napalm. Only some of the records were removed and burned. The records left behind were stained with blood the two priests helped to pour over those records as a symbolic protest about the work of the draft board in promoting the War.

That was only the start of the civil protest career of these two men. In the same year (1968), they traveled to Hanoi (the same year Jane Fonda did.) In succeeding years and decades, they continued their dramatic forms of protest, and were often jailed and served hard time in tough prisons.

The story of the Berrigan Brothers is one every enthusiast about the social revolution of the 1960's should read. All Roman Catholics should read it, too, especially Josephites and Jesuits. These two priests put those two Catholic religious orders in the NEW YORK TIMES and in other prominent media many times, and in some ways no doubt determined the future of those orders, the Catholic Church (especially in the USA), and the USA itself.

Much has been written both about and by the Berrigan Brothers. This 1997 book is an important addition to the important history of these important Catholic priests. Buy this book from Amazon.Com. Read it carefully. You won't be sorry.

Not having been alive in the 60s and 70s, I had heard the Berrigan brothers mentioned among Catholic (and non-Catholic) peace-and-justice types, but had no idea about the tremendous work they did (that daniel is still doing) and the huge impact they made in the struggle for social justice, peace, integration, and social morality. This is a must-read, not only for those interested in the Catholic Left, but for anyone who is mired in the day-to-day skirmishes against an oppressive government. This book entertains AND inspires!

THIS BOOK'S TENTH ANNIVERSARY URGES ITS RENEWED READING: THE EMPIRE HAVE NO GREATER TERROR THAN OF OUR PACIFIST PRIESTS
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-11
Politicians who have never known war make much of our alleged constitutional right to bear arms, and thus urge us on to their imperialist and profitable war-mongering and to fight with one another.

We however must make much of our Faith-based right NOT to bear arms, following as we do in the footsteps of Our Lord Jesus Christ who ordered Saint Peter to put up his sword raised in defense as He was unjustly arrested on Olivet, reminding us all that who lives by the sword dies by the sword, commanding us directly to love our enemies.

The brave and ordained Brothers Berrigan, pacifist priests, remind us of this as well with a lifetime of true and courageous Christian witness. This book adequately presents their pilgrimage with the Prince of Peace.

We may also of course read their own original works. The late lamented and Reverend Father Phillip Berrigan, may he rest in peace, first wrote Prison Journals of a Priest Revolutionary, inscribed book by the Ameri and many other books abound admiring his courageous witness for peace in nonviolent and Christian action. The Reverend Father Daniel Berrigan continues to produce profound and challenging Biblical exegesis, in particular of those courageous Old Testament prophets who share his courageous proclamation of the peace of God and who share his rejection and the despising of his own fellow believers. Such essential works include the eponymous Daniel: Under the Siege of the Divine, the agonized Ezekiel: Vision in the Dust, the noble, undaunted yet rejected prophet Isaiah: Spirit of Courage, Gift of Tears, the poignant Jeremiah: The World, the Wound of God, and the lesson for endurance and perseverence in our Faith found through the persecuted patriarch Job: And Death No Dominion, each of these fine and fortifying works for our lectio divina.

Please here in this highly recommended biography we find a portal to know and understand the brothers Berrigan, courageous prophets in our Faith. Nevertheless they may certainly be the first to say: read their books, read the book, and most urgently to get out and act powerfully for peace.
