THE ARGUMENT ENDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2004-02-26
I love sports, and when I need to get the facts on sports, I turn to a number of sources, including this informative book. Ever wanted to know who has hit the most homeruns in baseball? It's in this book! Want to know who has won the most NASCAR races? Get the book! Do you like to read about the history of the Summer and Winter Olympics, as well as look at the more popular stats from them? Get the book! How about hockey, basketball, football, golf, or boxing records? If any of these tickle your fancy, well you know... It goes into detail about a variety of sports and well documents interesting facts about them. But if you are into the big 4 (baseball football hockey and basketball) you're more than likely going to fall in love with this book. It covers season stats as well as all time statistics. Ever get into an argument with friends over a sports topic? Well unless it's a really off the wall topic, this publication can end the argument. Now I know WHY the Yankees bragged about, now I understand why Richard Petty is the real king of racing, now I know why movies were made about the Dallas Cowboys. It's because they all kick rear!!! If you want something that will entertain you and inform you, If you are looking for something that would make a great gift for the sports fan in your life, it's hard to beat the ESPN Almanac!!!

Excellent book for one of the most famous new product designers. With small and understandable mentions of Jasper Morrison to all of his works. Explains how he inspired to do all of this works. From lightening equipment to chairs and tables, Jasper Morrison knows very well how to do the things look simpler and also functional.

I am a 16 year old male. I found this book at a friend's house and started reading it. At the time I wasn't interested in astronomy, and I just wanted something to read. I soon realized how much I was enjoying what I was reading. Since then I have become very involved in astronomy and hope to someday become one professionally. This book has certainly changed my life.

This is a well-researched work that's easy to recommend. Doyle is an excellent historian who is well-versed in Faulkner.
The combination makes this fine book both an interesting history of Faulkner's native "postage stamp of soil" and an excellent introduction to Faulkner's world. It also provides a wonderful example of what a historian actually does (although not without some cautions along the way).

Learning from the past.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-02-04
"Feeds and Feeding" by Morrison is a top-notch textbook. Too bad it's gone out of print. A friend gave me a copy as a gift (he saw it at a yard sale) and my farming/homesteading/animal husbandry has never been the same since - for the better, of course. We too often think we know it all and, in the 21st century with all our gadgetry and nose-in-the-air know-it-alls, have much to learn from the past. This text covers all you'd want to know about feed types from how best they are grown to feed value (protein, crude fibers, etc.) for each different farm animal.
I used this text to formulate my own feed mixes as much of what you get from a feed store has filler junk and materials from Lord-knows-where (animal scraps from butchering and chicken droppings being fed to goats and cows, etc.).
Many vintage photos show how things "used to be" and the shame we bear with our corporate, profit-margin farming nowadays.
Have you ever seen a herd of hogs on a field of alfalfa up to their shoulders? Neither had I until I read this book.
Every serious homesteader and small farmer (even the big guys) can learn an awful lot by having this text in their farm library. You don't have a farm library? Shame on you. Start with this text.

This book documents a journey across China and Burma commemorating the 100th year anniversary of George Morrison's walk over the same route in 1893. McDonald, an Australian journalist, photographer, and adventurer had become fascinated with Morrison's life and expeditions after stumbling across his books in a library. After walking across Australia and taking a near disastrous detour in Papua New Guinea as a youth, Morrison had gone on to spend the greater part of his career as a statesman in China. On his journey across China, Morrison had met up with a Danish photographer named Jensen, who provided a collection of black-and-white images to illustrate Morrison's book, "An Australian in China." McDonald was particularly enamored with Morrison's journey on foot across China, and determined to recreate the journey as much as possible 100 years later. He also gave himself the goal of recapturing the scenes provided by Jensen by determining as best as possible Jensen's exact vantage points for the original photographs and reshooting the scenes as they appear in the late twentieth century. These pictures, some juxtaposed with Jensen's originals, as well as many other twentieth century scenes, are included in this book.

Jensen is a skilled traveler. He knows how to negotiate public transit in China, and he's not afraid to stray far from the beaten path. He meets a number of interesting characters along the way, and many help him in his quest to locate the buildings or scenery from Jensen's photographs. McDonald seems to revel in the quest-Morrison's epic provided an excuse to do some hard traveling, and the backbone of a route to follow. Although the book provides some interesting information and analysis about the peoples and cultures of the region, the book isn't so much about China and Burma as it is about McDonald's personal challenge to follow in Morrison's footsteps.
