The author spins a wonderfull but very much hard core erotic tale of the adventures of these women in their quest .... As a reader of this book I must warn potenetial readers that this book really goes over the top in several sections that involve man's best friend ....

Many people in the technology industry, especially when talking about IT/Operations or NMS infrastructures, say phrases like "reference architectures" and "best practices". What do they mean? Well, this book might not define these terms, but if you do pick it up and read it, you will be able to understand what the actual Best Practices surrounding the IT/Operations space are, especially for Service Provider or Enterprise environments. This book is the only material in it's class that even mentions things like the ITIL, ISO9000, TMN OAM&P, and Workflow Management. Nobody but the best implement this stuff, and I'm sure the Andersen Consulting, PWC, and E&Y people don't want the general public getting their hands on books like this one for reason of the market niche that have built upon so well.

I'm surprised that the authors didn't cover documentation or knowledge management, as well, with topics like SGML, DocBook, or similar - but they did cover pretty much everything else. This book is the "Mythical Man Month" of the NMS/OSS world.

If you are building New World methodologies, or even building a NOC at a startup tech company, this book is totally for you.

This book is an excellent resource or companion compendium for those who seek to become fluent or proficient in the corpus of knowledge that this tome represents. In addressing the paucity or dearth of simulated simulation research within the new medical paradigm, the authors bring a fresh and innovative perspective on the state of the art. Lastly, it should suffice to say that Satava et al. have captured the true essence of interactive technology, and those who involve theirselves with such endeavors will likely flock to this volume instinctually, like the salmon of Capastrana.

There are many textbooks on interconnection networks for high performance parallel computers; however, in my opinion, this is the best one that I have ever seen. It provides an in-depth study concerning wormhole routing collective communications, fault tolerant issues, router architectures, and performance evaluation in the new generation parallel computers. Jose Duato and Lionel Ni are the famous masters of this field, especially on deadlock problems, and this book proves that again. The writing style is very clear and easily understandable with large examples. So, reading this book is much more delicious than reading technical and survey papers. Besides, authors also provide two simulators. The first simulator can be downloaded and installed from http://www.cc.gatech.edu/people/home/nissim/flitsim. And the second simulator can be run interactively from the web http://www.ece.gatech.edu/users/lockhart/janet. To sum up, if you want to learn about data communications on interconnection networks, I would definitely recommend picking up a copy of this book - I was very happy to have bought and read it.

This book is the first (and I say first in that I presume there will be others to follow) that looks at an expanded view of warfare. Typically warfare (Clausewitz, Sun Tzu, et al) has been viewed purely as a conflict between states. This book looks at that view, but also considers warfare within states (a major part of the deaths occurred since World War II), and warfare within or between societies (which seems to be a harbinger of things to come).

The book is largely told through historical references. History is the only guide we have to viewing warfare. And there seems to be an almost universal desire on the part of people who start wars for a 'short victorious war' (Konstantinovich von Plehve, who started the Russo-Japanese war - which they lost).

The book is very up to date and includes quite a bit on Iraq, Darfur, Afghanistan, Chechnya, etc. but this is a general book on the theory and strategy of warfare in general. It is not given to quick and easy solutions like so many of the popular books being published today. In spite of its textbook approach, the writing style in this book makes it easy to read and understand.

This book fits in very well with the growing interest in the areas of war and security. This has been a neglected subject area for many years until the events of 9/11 brought us to the realization that the age of warfare is not over.

This extensive text is a solid introduction to theoretical techniques for analysis combining algorithms and underlying architectures. Asymptotic lower bounds for matrix operations, sorting, queue lengths, routing, etc. on various regular topologies. Highly recommend for graduate text in parallel computing.
