Essential for Spinozists
Helpful Votes: 25 out of 27 total.
Review Date: 2006-08-07
For us Spinozists most one-volume compendia are welcome, and none more so than this one edited by Michael Morgan. Its contents include the Ethics in its entirety, the Treatise on God, Man, and His Well-Being (extracts), Principles of Cartesian Philosophy, Part I, and the Letters (selections). For its price I can't think of a better introductory text to Spinoza's profound system of thought. Highly recommended.

AI Explained
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-05-14
[Disclaimer: the author of this book was my Ph.D. advisor.]

I have been teaching introductory Artificial Intelligence for about 5 years now at my University, and have tried three different texts. Essentials of Artificial Intelligence was far and away the best. If it were still in print, I would still be using it enthusiastically, in spite of its advancing age.

The chapters are short, clear, and complement excellent explanations with great suggestions for further learning. The coverage is fairly balanced, but with an emphasis on state space search, planning, and scheduling and a lessened emphasis on highly applied topics.

This is not an encyclopedic AI text. I think that is one of its strengths. If you are a college student or professor new to AI, and are looking for a quick but thorough way to come up to speed in the field, this is the book for you.

This book is addressing common controversial issues in sports...violence, cheating, boosting, steroids etc. To be honest, this book will not make you change your values, only you and your experiences in life have the power to change personal values.
Text style: Easy read. Book is meant to inspire class room discussion. If you're coaching or considering to coach, you might consider reading it...
food for thought :-)

A great book on a quite unknown artist
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-09
The book covers the life, works and art of Evelyn Pickering De Morgan, a Pre-Raphaelite woman artist who, shamefully, is not widely known to the public. The book qualifies as a catalogue of almost all of De Morgan's paintings.

The book contents are:
- Preface, by Catherine Gordon.
- Chronology
- Provisional catalogue and chronology of oil paintings (some include a brief comment related to the painting)
- Works exhibited during Evelyn De Morgan's lifetime (list)
- Evelyn De Morgan and spiritualism, by Judy Oberhausen (very informative review)
- Evelyn De Morgan's use of literary sources in her paintings, by Patricia Yates (detailed text providing insight to De Morgan's choice of subject for her paintings)
- A horror of war, by Judy Oberhausen
- Bibliography
- Plates (70 colour plates, 7 black&white plates. All printed in glossy paper of excellent quality).

Texts (95 pages) are good, and plates (all 77 plates, in 77 pages) excellent.

Excellent Book on Genetic Programming and Design
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 14 total.
Review Date: 2000-01-20
Genetic Design / Optimization is an exciting field. The increasing power of desktop computers are opening up applications in design optimization that heretofore were difficult to solve or optimize.

As a registered professional engineer, I feel comfortable stamping designs derived via evolutionary computation since they must satisfy the physics of the problem in order to be feasible.

I found this book prepares both the practitioner and researcher for this field. The book comes with a CD that contains many web addresses and source code to various application programs which is very valuable resource and time saver.

This is an excellent resource in Genetic Algorithms and Design. I recommend this book highly.

As a ministerial college student, I have found this book to be invaluable. G. Cambell Morgan's thoughts, outlines and evaluations are always clear and easy to understand. He is in depth yet very attainable in his vocabulary. He definately has something for everyone. When I need to understand more about any book of the Bible this book is the first I reach for!

I have all of the Camp Confidential books out so far. [except #18, which,by the way, JUST came out!:D)
I have to say, A Fair to Remember is the best one yet! It has all this puppy love with Jenna Bloom and Alex Kim. Super cute. Yet, this book isn't all romance stuff. It's summer time at Lake Greenwood with all these cool things going on! I absolutely give it 5 stars!!! It's refreshing, fun, interesting, cute, has friendship, and you'll read it at LEAST 10 times in your first year owning it. Buy A Fair to Remember, and you will not regret it!!! Hope this review helped!

Ann Haven Morgan's Field Book of Ponds and Streams belongs in the library of anyone who pokes around in the water and wonders what those things are. It's over half a century old, but still a useful introduction for the young biologist.

Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1999-03-12
If you need a quick, easy to read but information packed guide on collecting NASCAR collectibles, this is the book you want. Ken Bresalauer has been covering NASCAR and its memorabilia for more than 25 years, and in this book he gives readers the best of his experience. Furthermore, the photos are great - large, sharp and pertinent to the collectibles discussed. Beginning collectors beware - there are no prices shown - you're on your own, armed with Breslauer's reflected knowledge. - Leila Dunbar
